Riddle me this: I'm sitting here looking at a working Google Maps. Yet, Play says it's incompatible with my Nexus 7. And, that's not the only one! Apps like Boat Browser and, of all things, GMail! Anyone else running into this?

Screenshots? (power+volume down)
Off the top of my head, if you flashed a custom ROM, it could be that.
I ran a WW firmware ROM on my US Transformer Prime and certain apps became incompatible.

Changing your DPI can cause compatibility issues. If you haven't changed that, you may wanna try wiping data for play store app in settings.

What is the default DPI? I changed some settings with Rom Toolbox Pro and that may have been one of them. Not sure, though.

LCD Density = DPI
Did you change your screen size to make things either smaller or larger? that will break compaitiblity in the play store.

OK, I cleared caches, and that seems to have done the trick for MOST of the apps that showed incompatible. Strangely, GMail still shows incompatible, but I can deal with that. I was having autorotation problems and that's fixed now, too.
Thanks to all for your assistance.

I have a weird problem with my phone after rebooting, all of my icons are smaller and misaligned, it seems like everything was pushed up and to the left, as it shows in the screenshot provided.
[I highlighted in red where there are noticeable gaps that were not previously there, notice the icons in the dock bar seem to go beyond the set border.]
edit: i noticed i can't post photos, so please forgive me for altering my link, as it is not malicious.

There is a gap of space down the right hand side of the screen and left to right on the bottom part of the screen right under the main button dock and the desktop.
Has anyone had this problem or know what could cause this? I have Titanium Backup, Rom Toolbox, and a few other programs, I will list them if requested, but I list those two primarily because I figure they can help fix this maybe?

I had a similar issue on my Optimus S, all my home screens were slightly shifted left, so on one screen i could see part of both walls. It was trippy, and a pain in the butt. I fixed it on my phone by simply rebooting the phone. I am sure you have tried that already though. If you have everything backed up, maybe a reset would be the fastes solution, if you dont mind reinstalling everything.

I don't mind rebooting at all, I am just concerned about my unlock that I paid for and the root that I had done. Would doing a full restore reset either of those things? Sorry if it sounds like a silly question. I am still trying to learn all of this stuff.
Have you tried clearing the launcher's data? Or if it's a 3rd party launcher, uninstall and reinstall it? (but temporarily install a backup launcher if you do that, cuz you need at least 1 launcher for your phone to function properly)

Ya, I have tried that already, no go.
I've also tried removing the battery, restarting Ericsson home through application settings, and restoring frozen apps. none of which worked.

I currently am, but certain flawed elements are crossing over from the native launcher.
Like when something asks me to choose default application, the list cuts off and the background of the selection window becomes transparent/abruptly cut off.
Could it have anything to do with lcd density setting

A full flash with Flashtool will remove root, but your bootloader will keep open for good. You need a special package in order to relock the bootloader.

Thanks for answering that, is it fairly easy to reinstall root once I restore? Alejandrissimo rooted my phone for me. Also, what is clockworkmod?
Lcd density is pretty much the screen resolution. When I messed about with mine I got the same sort of problem that you describe. Can be adjusted using ROM Toolbox in buildprop tweaks. Just had a look at mine and its set to 240. Might be worth having a look

ya, was kinda depressing thinking that i had to do a full restore, i am using a stock rom even though i am unlocked and rooted. wondering if it is worth using cyanogenmod7? or should i wait for 9?
I think you're better off waiting for cm9 or see how the leaked ics rom turns out

Hi,
Recently my galaxy nexus has been behaving strangely. For some reason, when I search for certain apps (e.g. Imdb, friendcaster etc etc) they do not appear in my searches.
If I visit via the direct link, it says this application is not compatible with your device
If I reflash my ROM and kernel, the market works fine for a little while..then the above problem reappears
I have also tried clearing market cache and data, but this does not solve the problem
Any ideas?

Most common error: stop changing your density or don't install a rom with changed density.
I used "fix market compatibility" within LCD monitor pro which installed a spoof 320dpi market. I can now find all apps, although I'm slightly worried about the safety of this spoof market

Same thing happened to me the other day. Went to download Titanium Backup in the market after flashing Driven. Couldn't find it. Had to download it from the web. I go today to search for it and it is there in the play store. Strange.

So use the real Play Store and return your density to stock.

But after using the phone at 241dpi I could never go back to 320dpi.. it just looks so bad
Weirdly if I temporarily change dpi to 320 and then use the stock store.. apps still don't appear. Using the spoof store is the only thing that seems to work

... then you just have to deal with it? lol. I don't understand the complaint. You know how to fix the problem, but you refuse to do so, so then you have to deal with the spoof store. There ya go.
has anyone noticed that with the recent ICS leaks that alot of apps that were compatible with our phone are not now. On 4.0.3 leaks i could still get apps of the market, on the 4.0.4 leaks i can't. Example directv, on market says not compatible, walgreens app says not compatible. They were before, now they not. I have the apps in my dropbox so no biggie, but was just wondering if there is that much difference between 4.0.3 & 4.0.4 that would make apps not compatible anymore.

That is a good observation Isaac.
I'm willing to bet that the apps check the build version that is written into the build.prop file. I'm not having issues but if someone is and knows how to edit their build.prop file maybe change this line back to 4.0.3 to see if it works:
ro.build.version.release=4.0.4
Well, after backing up their rom first of course.
Edit: FYI, do not edit build.prop unless you know what you're doing. The system may not boot if this file is edited incorrectly.

Have you changed your dpi or installed a ROM that does? I am running AOKP latest and have no problem using Play Store Market apps. Perhaps open settings, manage apps, play store, clear cache then reboot?

Forgot about this too, 240dpi is the default setting.
Maybe that's it. My dpi is set to 215

If you change the dpi from 240, that will explain your problem. Change it back, clear Play cache, reboot. Should work fine.

Different devices have different dpi and that is part of what Play Store checks. Example: if I change my dpi to under 190, 128 specially, Google will display tablet apps. So, if your dpi doesn't match the phone that Google detects, it breaks.
In the Tablet mode ui thread, there is a hacked Play Store that automatically reports your dpi as 240 so that it doesn't break.
Yea changing the dpi back fixed it

Already answered. Delete please.
Sent while hanging with that really hoopy frood Ford Prefect.
Does anyone know of a permanent fix for the market saying "incompatible device" when you change the LCD Density? I have followed all the steps (for example, listed in AOKP roms) and even though it works for a few days or couple weeks, it still eventually reverts back to the error state.
So, anyone know of a permanent fix?
Download and flash one of the latest modded Play Store apps in the second post of this thread. Each modded Play Store will have proper multi DPI support and may fix your issue.

every so often play store auto updates itself along with Google services framework. When this happens just flash the latest like already stated
I'm running Jellybomb, didn't have the problem in the past: just started recently.
Almost everything I try to get says "Your device is not compatible with this version." Hell, I can't even get most apps to even show up on a search in the Play Store; I actually have to use a hyperlink to even get them to show up. (Doesn't matter, free or paid, Btw)
Anyone experienced this, or know a fix?

what DPI are you running at? i ran into a similar problem on one of the tablet note 2 roms, and the only way i found to fix it was to use Xposed and resize play store to 320 dpi and a lower res.
WI'll definitely give that a shot. (I honestly need to check the DPI...I'd bet it's not 240 or 320, and probably is the issue.)
Edit: Actually tried both; 240 fixed it to where I could at least search for everything, but still only install some; 320 fixed it completely.
Thanks again...
