I'm looking for a little bit of insight deciding between the One V and Xperia Sola. I definitely want a phone less than 4" (3.7" is just about ideal) and I've narrowed it down to the 2 unless anyone has some other suggestions. I like the One V as I've generally had good experiences with HTC and I'm a really big fan of HTC Sense, also it appears to have better build, display, and camera quality as well as a larger batter. Sony also doesn't have a very good track record for updates and the Xperia only has Gingerbread at the moment. However the Xperia has a dual core processor, a higher display resolution, NFC, a noise canceling mic, a digital compass, twice as much onboard storage, and a lower price. On paper the Xperia looks like a clear winner but I can't decide between the two. Also if anybody has any suggestions for other devices it's important to note I live in the US and will be on AT&T so I need GSM/UMTS 850/1900, and HSPA 14.4+ would be nice. Thanks in advance for any help.

GO FOR XPERIA SOLA!!
My friend has SOLA and I own a One V! His phone is too good!!! Dual-Core!!
It's just better than One V in every way!!
I think you need to go to your nearest store to experiece both phone by yourself. I thot Galaxy W was great with 1.4GHz, but when I tested it myself, I wasn't that impress. So does Xperia Sola. Thats why I bought One V instead. I like the fact that HTC One V has great community support (read: developers) so when the manufacturer decides not to upgrade your phone to the latest Android version, you can upgrade it via Custom ROMs. Offcourse Xperia Sola has dev support too, but the way XDA merged Sola, P, U forums, I can tell you that the development will not as fast if they are saperated. Whichever you buy, I hope it's the best for you as there is no "The Best Phone" in this world.

I wish I could go to the store and test them out but there's no stores that have them anywhere around here. That's why I posted to I can get a general idea about quality and real world performance, etc. And thanks to both of you for the insight.

So based on my subjective view, HTC One V is better than Xperia Sola in term of build quality, screen, most probably camera. If you are casual gamer, you'll be happy with its single core processor. Plus, if you have ORD (Obsessive ROM-updating Disorder), you'll be happy with custom ROMs which are already available here.

So I was looking again having finally decided on the One V and I noticed it only has UMTS 850/900/2100 and lucky me I live in an area where AT&T only has a 1900Mhz license. 850Mhz here is exclusive to Verizon and US Cellular. There isn't like a baseband hack or anything I could do to enable 1900Mhz is there?

it's user's fault that the games lags, not device's fault. don't go hitting the device so hard only because you have lag when you even send a message. you made numerous threads about your phone being sooo laggy, i remember i gave you an advice to reboot your phone (you didn't know that) and your reply was "its much better now".
learn to have a clean rom/phone and learn to use it better and your phone will move faster. if you want i can make a video of me playing temple run on my One V.

I was contemplating on buyin HTC wildfire os SAMSUNG galaxy 3..
PLZ suggest which phone is better??
I require the phone for mainly msgin and net, with a little use fr watching videos and playin the odd games whn i'm bored..
If the galaxy 3 is as bad as the s with lag then go for wildfire
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
The Galaxy 3 has a 667 MHz processor.
The Wildfire has a 528 MHz processor.
There will be a really slight unnoticeable difference of speed when playing games.
Galaxy 3 has a 240 x 400 QVGA resolution.
Wildfire has a 240 x 320 QVGA resolution.
Both are the same size.
Galaxy 3 has a 3.15MP camera.
Wildfire has a 5MP camera.
So the Wildfire will take better pictures/videos.
Galaxy 3 has a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery.
Wildfire has a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery.
So Galaxy 3 will last a little bit longer.
Its just a choice between their appereance I would say, and the difference between Sense and what Samsung has.
I would go with the Wildfire though.
I tried many of my friends Samsung smarthphones, and they are nothing compared to a Wildfire.
I have both... the advantages of the Galaxy 3 are:
Screen - the screen on the Galaxy 3 has much better definition (higher res) but it is a bit smaller... I sometimes find it difficult to read without glasses lol. It definitely looks a lot better than the Wildfire's screen... especially when viewing webpages (don't need to zoom in as much for the font to become readable).
Processor - it's not that much faster but the phones does seem less laggy than the wildfire. Also skype works fairly ok on the galaxy but breaks up a lot on the wildfire. So there is a difference.
Advantages of the Wildfire? Well everything else lol. Faster 3G, better camera (has a flash too). WAY more custom ROMs to try out (unless you make the mistake of upgrading to the official froyo like I did :| ). The wildfire's screen is also bigger to it's easier to read without glasses. Oh yeah and if you are sticking with official firmware, HTC Sense is a lot more user friendly than Samsung's TouchWiz interface.
In the end I'm probably going to stick with the wildfire until I can afford a desire or something like that.
and the galaxy devices have lag issues (even my tab), and the htc ones are easier to update (OTA or RUU rather than KIES)
And the wildfire is useless at gaming. if you want gaming and dont mind branding and live in the uk look at the orange san fransisco / ZTE blade
Conclusion = The Wildfire fits your requirements the best.
Also, if this is your first ''smarthphone'' I would definitely go with the Wildfire, so much more user friendly like said above.

Hi guys!!!
Im older user from HTC mobile, now I buy a new phone more chip, and won a new problems!
Srs., I've looking for features about my mobile (it is Motorola SPICE XT300), and this model only sell in Brazil / Canada / Argentina / Australia (i guess).
Looking in the website (gsmarena) I found the features about my phone, and its is the same about the Wildfire. look:
Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair)
CPU 528 MHz ARM 11 processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset
So i heard about this model dont have a drivers for this chipset, cause i dont know, but motorola dont make this drivers. So i hear some people try porting other driver from this chipset in this model but its very very dificult found news about this. I have some helps from neopeek and other forums, here too, about porting this drivers.
So, this driver i guess stay in /system/lib/****.so - my question is, somebody knows how install the 3D driver for this chipset? If i download a CUSTOM ROM here, try to copy/paste in the same location those files could work? Please guys help me, I dont wanna lose my phone but dont wanna use without graphics (by the way its f**king bad do anything, its slow any apps who needs).
So any news about this? anything? some developer could help me? any one?
Thx guys, c ya ...
gsmarena has the specs of the wildfire wrong, it doesn't have a gpu
Pdadb should be better. If you have the msm 7225 then there is no gpu. The best way to check is run nenamark. If it gets 1fps then there is no gpu. If it gets 30-60 fps then there is a gpu

Seconded. At today's price point, there are much better phones than the Wildfire out there. But, ~6 months back, really, Wildfire was the only option if you wanted a budget Android, which is why, I am a bit disillusioned, but will continue to faithfully stick with my Wildfire.
I agree that now there are better phones in that price range. But look at the time when wildfire is released, almost a year ago and still it can compete. You must agree that even few months is relatively big period not to mention a whole year.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Good value? Yeah, maybe the first days of release, but it didn't take long for alot more valuable phones came along. All HTC phones is overpriced, and now with locked bootloaders, useless. Only reason I got it was becouse, at the time, it was the cheapest with a LED flashlight. If I only waited for the Defy instead, same price-range, but oh so much better phone on ALL fronts.
Ok guys! but the question its not about the wildfire, its is about this Motorola Spice..
So ok, i learn the Wildfire dont have gpu ok ...
So somebody have the nenamark.apk to install ? I just found the .zip file and I dont know how to install this on mobile.
I gonna make the test with this bench, cause if i got more then 1fps i have a gpu .. if not, i dont have and i guess this thread is closed.
Any one know something about this specific model? C ya.
Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy this phone in the coming months.
Couple of questions:
1. Is there any lag that you have experienced after installing a lot of apps because of the limited 512MB RAM? And my friend bought this device but it shows a total of only 384MB RAM, why is that?
2. How is the game performance of the Adreno 205 on this device. Does it support most of the games with good performance?
Asking these questions because i come from using Samsung Galaxy 3 (no GPU and 256MB RAM) and these were the two main problem areas for me. Do not want to repeat the same .
If I Remeber Correctly it has the same CPU\GPU as the Desire S\HD and they play the games pretty well. and regardless of the phone you WILL get lag when tons of crap is installed even if it's the ONE X or the S3. And it shows 384mb of ram because the rest is allocated to Android System. hope this has helped you
games in the category of shadowgun runs fine
nova3 and higher doesnt works
and for the ram issue u alrdy have got an answer
go for the phone i garantee ul nt repent
Games are running fine on this tiny phone . Well, not those beasts games that needs 1gb ram or Nvidia gpu's (if any) but the decent and good games are played well on One V. Buy the phone if you don't have other option because it is a fine one!

Yup i am fully aware how Android runs apps. It's just that my current device had 130MB free storage on an average and all that gets used up with all the important apps. Even with those many apps the phone used to lag (it was OC'd to 1Ghz plus using the V6 supercharger mod). With a better phone i expect to be able to install a few more apps that i had to compromise on earlier and a few games. I was just making sure that my new phone doesn't frustrate me like my last one (it was the best mid-ranger of its time).

Thanks, will check them out (although I was not aware of these games before). My question though was more on the lines of compatibility. Because currently 90% of the games I browse show that they are incompatible with my device . I know the GPU is only a modest one and wont be able to run those FPS genre games very well. But how about those graphics heavy puzzle and arcade games (like Temple Run, World of Goo and Jelly Defense).

Thanks, I was actually thinking of Galaxy Ace 2. It has a much more impressive piece of hardware. But it does not have ICS out of the box, and Samsung are pretty bad with updates (don't wanna flash a ROM port the first day I buy the phone ). Plus the plastic body has no comparison to the sleek unibody design of the One V, really awesome to hold . Sense 4 is also a convincing argument towards One V.

Surprising to hear that since the Ace2 has a Mali-400 GPU, which is in my opinion gives much better performance than the Adreno 205. It might be asking too much but could you compare notes with your friend on performance and overall usability of the two phones?

It's the halo effect of the N7. Now that Google's pushing Teg3 by putting in one of their devices that's destined to sell in the tens of million you'll see a lot of app developers that ignored Teg3 or never optimized for it getting on board. The N7 is the best thing that ever could have happened to Teg3.

Nice! My one x will be a little bit happier once this happens as we've recently opened up our gpu speeds to FAST :good:Thanks faux123
I already saw that but I don't think it's true, Gameloft guys are just a bunch of liars, I went to their forum and they're most of the time ignoring the Tegra 3 related complaints or answering the exact same way they answered to you (it's like if they're all doing a ctrl+c-ctrl+v)
And, considering the way Asphalt 7 and The Amazing Spider Man (this game doesn't even support post-treatment for Tegra 3!) were optimised for Tegra 3 and considering that Gameloft had time to do the work before releasing these apps, I guess that nVidia didn't pay the extra money Samsung paid to get properly optimised apps...
Even The Dark Knight Rises was not THAT well optimised...
Considering all that I would assume that Gameloft developpers don't know their work or what "optimising" means but considering how Gameloft games work on SGS2 and SGS3 I think that Samsung just paid some money...
They said the same to me and I really complained bout mc3 because I loved that on my xplay I put a good bit of money onto it and that sent me a t3 version but it lags abit online ill try and find the email

This is just an unoptimised version with device check deactivated so it runs but lags...

correction it uses 1 core out of 4 CPU cores i wasnt talking about GPU
CPU can be used to accelerate all the particles and physics processing, which GL chose to ignore the extra 3 cores
looking at Nova3 you can see its smooth but once you have around 3 enemies with their phsycis simluation, it lags bad, the CPU is the ideal place to deal wtih physics and ragdoll but yea, what can i say, its GL, they are spoiled and like the GPU to do all the job and not bother with multithreaded coding
I wonder if the extra 200 mhz in the HOX+ will help in this lag issue.

I wonder if the extra 200 mhz in the HOX+ will help in this lag issue.

I doubt it'll be a major improvement if at all. If you consider the fact that it will still be using one core.
I'm no expert in this field but one thing i can say for sure is that operating with just one single core is dependent on the type of game....and If gameloft games are more demanding as i assume in terms of graphics (i don't really game much if at all on phones) then using just that one core is ridiculous, especially if you consider the fact that we are talking about gaming and even further if we are talking about a GAMING PHONE with a quad-core.

SkyDragon Rom
One thing I don't get is some Gameloft titles run ok on dual core phones but those exact same titles run laggy on quad core Tegra 3 phones. Can't remember exactly which games those are.

It always comes down to optimization. With that i mean capable hardware, and i'm sure tegra 3, despite not having the greatest graphic hardware is capable
This can be seen in computer games benchmarks. Since i'm planning for a pc upgrade and i'm deciding upon a graphic card, i don't recall exactly which one that was. But there was an incident where a radeon graphic card hit a somewhat better score than the nvidia card. At that point i already thought i knew "hey, we have a winner here already"
..next page there was a game again, where nvidia had clearly beaten the radeon graphic card, where the frame difference was even bigger. Then in other games they performed similarly.
So really, optimization is what it comes down to for capable hardware.
Hahahahaha.. I'm really laughing out loud.. if this real.. no need for me and @Hamdir waste the whole week for Wildblood..

on my opinion , xperia play is still on top , how can a phone be a advanced smart phone without gamepad ?! i think if we just loking for quad core or H/w , it's better to buy htc one X or galaxy s 3 .
still have hope to see xperia play 2 (( who knows ))

^ eeew yuck! hehehehe
How can anyone take ZTE seriously if they call this an advanced gaming phone!
I want a gaming phone not a WII phone
that is a Chinese phone , besides i don't think a Chinese phone can be a #1
Check out the ZTE Era it's better than this phone and Xperia Play excluding the gamepad of course lol. Before this Grand X came out the reason why I was so excited was because of the ZTE Era's specs I mean just look at that, it screams "Most Advanced Gaming Phone on the planet" if they had added a gamepad!. Disappointed...

Lol, if we want to get into that, there's likely a hundred phones out by now that have better specs than Xperia Play.
...but that "exclude the gamepad" is a very important loss. When you exclude the gamepad, you're back in the "touch-screen gaming ghetto" that keeps all the other phones held back.
This part isn't direct attack on you or anything Blessi; but on a general note, I feel that all these spec-counters are getting so wrapped up in numbers that logic escapes their thought process entirely. We can talk, hypothesize, and conceptualize about how Xperia Play's "behind the curve" all day long, but what happens in practice matters more than talking, hypothesizing, and conceptualizing (all of which fall under "guesses"). What's that mean when it still manages to run software with great performance? By the rules of the terminology, hardware that's adequate at running software is not obsolete.
So what we really have is hardware that's not bad as it is... and a gamepad bonus that's currently unparalleled by any other attempt to add hardware controls to smartphone gaming.
