HTC ONE V(Virgin Mobile USA): Any Good? - HTC One V

*Starters, I wasn't sure if this should go here or in Q&A so I am sorry if this is the wrong place*
I've been looking at a LOT OF Phones for the past few days.
Superphones like the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3
Older phones like the amaze and Sensation and Exhibit II
And now the ONE V....
I have few questions in regards to Virgin Mobile's ONE V
1. Is the phone laggy? I know it is not dual core by any means but is it laggier than expected for a phone with it's processor?
2. I've heard Sprint/Virgin Mobile have had network issues where there have been outages for data, texting and voice
3. Does the one V have any of the SmS shortage errors like the EVO V/EVO 3D has?

Its not laggy if only you turn on gpu you rendering. Its a pretty nice phone

1 haven't had any lag, short of a few minor instances.
2 I've had great service so far, been using vm for about a year. Depends on your area though.
3 not sure what the issue is on the evo, but I haven't had any sms problems.
I would definitely recommend this phone, it's durable, fast, and just plain nice to use. Beats Audio is pretty awesome, and it's 100 less than the evo.

Its not good.......its amazing !! That's all that has to be said. If you want to know try one out at your local store. You won't regret a purchase of this phone.

New Galaxy Nexus from Google or HTC One X from AT&T?

I'm in the market for a new device and had pre-ordered the HTC One X from AT&T's website for $550 (off contract). Now today I see that Google is selling the Galaxy Nexus directly with warranty for $400 and I'm torn. Both devices seem to have their pluses and minuses. The One X has LTE, better screen, and better hardware but the GN has stock Android AOSP (which I like better than HTC Sense), gets updates first directly from Google, and is more customizable since it's a true developer device and will always have more ROMS, kernels etc.
Help me figure out my dilemma...if you were in my shoes, what would you do and why!?
One x just because its newer and has the most up to date hardware. Build quality etc is also good.
Only negative would be dev support will never compare to galaxy nexus.

Any idea if the One X will get AOKP? And just out of curiosity, it's not possible to install AOSP onto a 3rd party manufacturer's device right? It's only available for Nexus devices?

Well, yes, sort of. There are issues with proprietary drivers and other missing things like kernel source.
AOSP is possible with other devices but don't count on it being there for at least a couple of months.
I'd go for Nexus since it gets all the updates first. Stable code > hardware imo.

Honestly I agree with this statement...except for LTE. I live in NYC so I REALLY want a device with LTE not only to futureproof my purchase but b/c it really is a substantial upgrade in everyday usage in the city. During working hours HSPA+ can grind to a halt on AT&T's network due to congestion. That's really the primary reason why I'm currently leaning towards the One X.
Nexus. There really is no need to have the best specs anymore because even the Nexus S still kicks ass. Get the Galaxy Nexus. You'll be a lot happier with it. The one x is a jipped ICS experience.

I have this same congestion problem in Chicago. Sometimes with full bars after 5min Google maps still won't load. I didn't realize that 3G bands could be congested and still have LTE wide open. Do they use different bands?
One x
Because LTE
The biggest negatives for the One X is the battery life might be one of the worst seen in the last few years and the software is overly complicated. The new Sense UI is better but it certainly doesn't match stock ICS. It's really what you value the most. If you want better specs and a better camera go with the One X. If you value battery life and a better user experience go with the Galaxy Nexus.
The one x with AT&T is tempting cause of that crazy powerful S4 processor. But the problem here is HTC sense. It might crash like it does on the global tegra 3 one x and that's super annoying. But 399 $ and you get a very good nexus and I think it's the better choice.
The user experience and updates from google make the GN very enticing but I think I'm going to go with the one x. The better hardware and lte make it the better purchase for me right now.
But I do have to say that the One X is one sexy phone. It looks beautiful.

Gnex to One X back to Gnex

Honestly, it's good to be back. The One X is a fine piece of hardware. Love the camera software, love the screen. Hate the placement of the power button, but that's another story.
The completely broken multitasking on the One X drove me back to my Gnex and I'm very glad to be using it again. Seriously, it's nice when the phone just works the way it's supposed to.
Too bad HTC didn't do a little better quality control before releasing the One X, unless they intended multitasking to work that way, which is even worse.
Anyway, I was never unhappy with my Gnex and now that I have seen that the grass is not greener on the One X side, I will be sticking with it.
Oh the button placement...when will HTC learn? Also, harware buttons....EW

Welcome back OP
I heard that HTC heavily restricted the multitasking on the One X. Is that the problem why you come back?
I've only had a chance of playing around with the One X in store demo cases. I do agree with you on the screen though. It's gorgeous.
If someone could run vanilla ICS on the One X then it would be godsend.
I just ordered the nexus. Looks like I did the right choice. =)
Welcome back OP I was in the fence to get this or the Evo LTE but I like so much more AOSP that I prefer this over better screen or camera
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Nexus CDMA using Tapatalk 2
Yeah always hated power button on top, especially on these large phones, really hard for one handed operation.
And in the ICS age should be software buttons nit hardware anymore.
Only other phone that interests me besides the Nexus, is the Nexus-Four, but that beast is 6 months away.

Nice to have you back on the WINNING team lol.
I've heard the one series is pretty disappointing. I played with the One S at T-Mobile the other day and I was disgusted... comparing it to my old sensation i dont see where the improvement is...
The screen sucks. Sense 4 sucks. Coolest thing about it was the recent apps window and we have that now through AOKP. Long story short I'm glad I got the gnex over any of the One series phones. I can't even believe I was considering the One X at one point... damn quad core
Sent from my Maguro
So many ppl jumped on the one x bandwagon. I played with it and don't know what the hype is all about. Other than the attractive poly carbonate shell, nothing about it was that much better than the gnex.

I think the only thing I'd ever abandon my Gnex for would be a Galaxy S III
Welcome back comrade
The only thing I really hate about my Nexus is the damn location of the headphone jack!
Why did they decide to put it at the bottom?!! it makes sense on the ipod but NOT a massive 4.6" screen phone!
I played with one the other day and it still had that sense lag and lack of smooth functioning. That's why I bailed on HTC. It's a shame since the hardware and screen are great.
What's the limitation of multitasking? How's it different from the gnex?

No way would I do that...
But then again, I pre-ordered a Nokia 808, so anything's possible.
If I like Symbian (all over again) I'll keep the 808. If not, and I can deal with the microSIM adapter, I'll use both my GNEX and 808.
Interesting times we live in...but it's very hard to beat the GNEX for sure.

Restricted is not the word. It's completely broken. Like it kills everything you have running in the background, even streaming music. And it does not even save the states of the apps like iOS does. In its current state, it's completely unusable.
I also went through this cycle.. Despite the HTC ONE X having an amazing screen and good battery life, i still found my GN to be much better.. Non-hardware buttons FTW!
It was my first HTC, and i've got to say, I really do not like the UI. Don't mean to hate, just not for me. Also found that the UI kept re-drawing for some reason.. I used Apex Launcher and even removed all the widgets from HTC stock Sense Launcher and it kept re-drawing which was annoying.. Never happened to me on any other phones..
Ended up selling my ONE X.. and super happy with my GN still
So what was wrong with the multitasking? I haven't used one, but it seems to me that something with that much power under the hood should be better at multitasking than the GNex. Did it lag? Did it close apps so you had to start over when you jump back to them?

1. non-removable battery
2. $600 no contract
3. less developer support
4. only quad HSPA

Why did you choose the HOX over the Galaxy S3

I'm a Galaxy S3 owner I'm not here to slag off the HTC One X i think it's a great phone, as i use to have a HTC Sensation & actually liked Sence more than Touchwiz.
But i'm wondering what made you choose the the HOX over the Galaxy S3, was it build quality, Sence, Camera ect ect?

3 things:
1. Touchwiz(don't like it)
2. HTC Sense(love it)
3. When you hold S3 in your hands you get this plastic feeling, feels like a cheap toy(but that's just my opinion, I'm sure its a great phone)

1. Better Screen
2. Better UI though a bit laggy
3. Better Design and build quality
4. Tegra Chip - special tegra high quality games
5. Was released earlier and i couldn't wait till s3 was released
6. Its camera's burst feature and Feature of taking pics while shooting a video
I personally didn't want to wait for gs3 to comeout ,I wish I did,I could have saved me being angry at a phone (first time)for 4 months, now I'm happy after I got rid off it and did what I should have done fist place
i chose HOX instead of GS3 because i had galaxy s1 for 2 years and i was tired of amoled screen and crackling plastic.
the screen on hox is really better in my opinion, and colors are realer!
then, design! i loved hox since the first time i've seen it!
then i wanted to try sense, i always loved it but never used!
i'm happy of my decision and i'll never come back from it!
Cuz its just better like they said "the s3 feel's cheap n plasticy ^_^

Build quality
Found GS3 to be overrated
HTC sense is much better than touchwiz
Cheaper
HTC brand
My mums GS2 had loads of issues
Don't care about the very small spped differences. Find one x faster in several cases.
THD game support. Power saver core
Honestly when the next flagship is out (MWC 2013) most people's issues with the one x will be fixed, it will use either tegra 4 or snapdragon s4 which are both 28nm a15 which will boost performance and battery life with both having improved GPU with the tegra most likely 24 core GPU. The biggest reason I would find to buy the Samsung galaxy s4 is because of the Mali gpu but tegra 4 may be better
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Because I knew some day HTC will fix lagging and optimize tegra, so HOX with his diplay and design will simply become better package then sammy And yesss, they already did it with last 4.0.4 update!
i am an avid mobile gamer and the nvidia tegra chip on this phone coupled with the 1.5ghz processor simply provides an unbeatable gaming experience. i also enjoy the sense interface on this phone compared to the s3,which wasn't. to my liking. then again, its juz my opinion. im sure the s3 does have its fair share of advantages.

had my HOX even before SIII specs were released but would prefer HOX over the SIII
I prefer Sense way over Touchwiz. Android's default UI is better then Touchwiz.
Though would like the "Keep-On when watching phone" fucntion of the SIII, though I think it would drain battery.
honestly i regretted getting the hox
Not a fan of AMOLED or Touchwiz, thought the HOX looked really nice physically, and I also don't like Samsung's side power button. I also don't like the look of the S3, although it doesn't feel as bad as I expected.

These threads are not allowed in sub forums, you can post it in the android general sections, it will be closed very soon
Because I knew that the OX would become the technical and developers' successor of the HD2. In my opinion this phone will live for 2.5 years and more.
Plus I wouldn't touch a Samsung with a bargepole because of the AWFUL TouchWiz *spits*
One word: design...
Look and feel is so much better, that I would buy my hox over and over.
Other great point is the display (vividness of my original galaxy s was the main issue with it)
Although I would have better battery, but everything else is just super since I flash custom roms (I prefer stock Android look over sense and touchwiz)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
IMHO no comparisons can be done! GS3 is a great device just like the HOX but it doesn't have HTC Sense (And all HTC apps)
In general, as regards the software HTC is slightly ahead and the design of this phone is far better than the GS3.
The performance are equal!! I've had both HTC and GS3 and GS2 and iPhone before, and I have to say that I'd never change my HOX!
Best phone I've ever had!!
Even if I must admit that maybe I'm lucky because my unit is just perfect (no overheating, no short battery life, no flickering, no wifi issue etc.)
To sum up, if you have the luck to get a perfect HOX it is the most advanced and beautiful phone in the world for now!
Of course there are my humble opinions...
Choice based on past experience

I chose the One X based on the fact that I used to like and trust HTC.
Their eye for detail is usually sound. The One X's pysical design is outstanding and I was originally in favour of the their new policy of a non-removal battery. Sence has also always been another plus and the reason to choose the One X. I have owned 4 other HTC phone (Hero, Desire, Desire S and the Sensation) and all devices have been enhanced by the inclusion, running alongside the various Android versions.
But having owned the One X, since May, little things about the device now have begun to annoy me. The back of the device heats up after moderate use. The non-removal battery, originally seemed like a sound idea, until you realise that the battery installed is not capable of lasting more than an 6 hours on moderate use.The fixed SD storage, with no option to add your own, like their previous devices, now can be viewd as an idiotic decision. If they were going down this route, it might have been an idea to increase the internal storage on the phone (and the battery's capacity).
Sence has now become too "heavy" for ICS and unfortunately slows the device down, god knows what it will do to the speed of the device once they upgrade it to Jelly Bean!!
Funnily enough, I still love the device
I had the s3 for 2 days and i loved it but then i tried the hox and sold my s3.
For Better screen, better build quality and better ui i dont need any more reasons
Screen
Sense
Camera
Text to fit browser
Feels nice
Call quality
Auto brightness that actually works
No constantly flashing new roms to improve things
Works great stock unrooted
No home button

Had Samsung phones for years, and loved my sg2 but got impatient waiting for the sg3 so went for the HOX.
Do not regret it at all. Had its issues in the early days as I got it on release day but all has been solved with different otas.
Screen is superior, better build quality. Development is a little slow because of the s off issue but still good. Some very talented developers on the HOX forums. I do wish the battery was removable tho.
I do wish I had my sg2 still though, mainly so I can access skygo and sky sports tv. Oddly, sky release a brand new app a week ago without supporting 2 of the most popular phones on the market right now in the sg3 and hox.

[Q] Why should I get a Galaxy S III?

So I killed my HTC G2 and with increasing frustration with T-Mobile's service and customer support and the fact that I'm a week away from my T-Mo contract ending I've been thinking of switching to a Galaxy S III. Add to that the fact that my wife wants an iPhone and has been constantly disappointed in her Vibrant (Galaxy S) and it's replacement her LG MyTouch.
Give me some reasons to make the switch. Right now I'm torn between the Galaxy S III and the HTC One X.
The other options are the Razr M on Verizon. Or some other Verizon phone (Their NFL app is REALLY tempting.)
What problems have you encountered with your phone on a daily basis? How long do you go between reboots? Battery life really isn't an issue, my G2's battery life sucked so I have chargers....everywhere.
I havent used the HTC so I cant comment on it. But I love the GS3. Its been great for me. Fast, smooth..great screen. I think the issues anyone may come across may depend on what ROM, if any they are running. The Dev support for this device is amazing. I can get well over a day sometimes 2 on a battery charge. As far as rebooting...I only reboot when I flash something. Other then that I never reboot. Maybe you should just hit your local store and play with a few different phones if your not sure. I really have nothing but good things to say about this phone.

I had the s3 for about a month now great phone new to rooting I flash back and fourth no problems have been expierenced on any roms even the stock rom to me is great. The downfalls to me is that I got 16 gig model for some reason u cant transfer apps to sd :yes there are hacks but its kinda ridiculius imo. And if ur a gamer this might be an issue with16 gig model I would go with the 32 and I think there is a 64 model. I would've I just tried to exchange for the 32 they don't carry it. Well out of the two I would get s3 over the one x I personally used it great phone but camera to me looks good because of the beautiful screen.I have AT&T so no battery removal no sd card and I just hated rooting my htc inspire that was my first root but I do like sense based roms. I will have to say this everyone who i know has one talks very bad about it these people are using stock and I don't think they get how to work the build in task manager nuff said. I think I went about 2 or 3 weeks. They did a really good job with this one on stock. My opinion, I know many will disagree but I think they did a great job with touchwiz this time around so running stock wasn't bad. I had no issues with reboots or FC. I think I have been lucky cause I really haven't had issues with the custom ROM's I have tried. There are some TW things that I like. But I also like AOKP. Right now I'm running Aristodemos 3 which is TW mixed with a little AOKP so its perfect for me. That mixed with Ktoonsez kernel is an awesome match.

I have the S3 coming from an iPhone 4 so this is my first Android experience, having said that have you seen the One X+? That would be the tempting option to me. Of course you loose the SD card but it starts with 64Gb so it may not be an issue.
Only you can decide what you want. Hox doesn't have extremal card (deal breaker), and i think you can't remove the battery (i may be wrong on this point). Those 2 things are why i went with the S3.

Something tells me the HOX+ is going to run at high end iPhone prices and I'm severely limited so far as cost goes. Besides right now I'm on a Samsung Gravity 3 which is killing me slowly but surely. As soon as my TMO contract is up I've got to switch over so waiting for the + won't work.

I guess I'm a little gun shy after dealing with the wife's Vibrant (Galaxy S I)
I'm pretty sure the latest software update for the One X is still unrootable. That, along with the lack of external storage and unremovable battery, made the SIII an easy choice for me.
I mean, if you really really really care about screen quality, go with the One X, but I feel like the SIII's advantages outweigh the disadvantage of the PenTile matrix display.
Nothing wrong with the iPhone 5. My wife got it and I actually like it(came from an iPhone 4 to sgs 3). It really depends on your preferences and what works best for you.

I came from a Captivate, Att's version of the vibrant and there is NO comparison. The S3 has actually been the only phone Ive ever been impressed with, first Iphone included, she will love it. Wife has iphone 5 and the S3 blows it away, except for the camera. In fact, everytime she needs to browse the web she asks me for my phone.
I upgraded 2 weeks ago from a samsung infuse. So far so good with the galaxy s3, great phone, great screen. I rooted it when I got home just so I could get rid of all the AT&T bloatware. I get about 15 hours of life from my battery, but I'm always using my phone either web access or calls for work, playing games or surfing in between calls, and I have ditched my standalone GPS-this phone actually works faster than my garmin. Not to mention LTE, i'm pulling close to 50 Mbps download-way faster than my home internet thru comcast

Nothing wrong with the iPhone 5. My wife got it and I actually like it(came from an iPhone 4 to sgs 3). It really depends on your preferences and what works best for you.

Nothing to do with the topic, but nice Wild Arms 2 reference, its my favorite one in the series.
Now onto the topic, I had the One X and S3, and while I really wanted to like the One X since it had the superior build quality, the support and extra ram + microsd slot + removable battery did it for me.
Picked up my S3 tonight. Holy fricking balls it's amazing.
Thanks to all who responded!

htc one x + coming to tmobile? better than s III?

has anyone heard if the htc one X+ is coming to tmobile and if so do u guys think it will be better than the s3?
I think htc is better in many ways but s3 is good too as a starting dev i would prefer htc - it's more free to tweak but s3 has much "'cool" things as floating touch, it reacts when you close your eyes etc.

I thought everyone was pissed at htc for tying the hands of the devs and refusing to allow them to gain soff and all?
Htc was great, 2 or 3 years ago. Not so sure anymore. I still like their hardware and design, but to keep it so locked down is an epic fail in my book.

why yes... yes they were.. Amaze and so on has been complicated. That was the downfall of htc popularity. everybody went to the gs2 knowing this and tore that baby up.
And amaze had crappy battery... probably mostly about the crappy battery lol.
I like HTC's designs, but they are buggy as hell. I've had the PPC-6601, SDA, Shadow 2, HD2, and the One S, and as usability goes the S3 beats em all. The HTC One aluminum unibody would be a winner if it didn't limit expandability so severely.
The htc one x + is an at&t exclusive only. We wont have it:thumbdown:

I am sure T-Mobile will get a variant of this phone, but may be watered down like the one S was/is.
I love the build quality on the HTC devices, from the unibody to the overall build really. Just awesome looking/feeling devices.
Not fond of the horrendous battery life's or the screen always seeming it pales in comparison to Sammy.
I loved my Amaze, wife currently has one and kinda liked the one S till I realized it was no different than my Amaze and really almost a step down.
Real happy with my S3. I don't see me going back to HTC anytime soon.

Even though phones are becoming more power efficient, I personally dont think we are at a point were having a non-removable battery is justified. Screens are becoming bigger and brighter which just offsets any power optimization implemented, and we are left with the same horrible battery life. This is the main reason I believe the S3 is superior.
I had the HTC inspire and then the sensation and the Amaze 4G. All where great phones....HTC lost my money when they made the HTC one x without expandable memory and with the built in battery!! Which I hate a lot...remind me of an iPhone concept in a way...but at this point I have 0% regret that I switched to the s3....I believe it was a good move for me because it is a great phone all the way around.

The best thing in the phone is the screen is just amazing how good it looks, comparison to the gs3 and iPhone 5 you can tell the one x got a beautiful screen, I would get it no problem but I ma have a hard time selling the gs3 plus I already have spare battery and a 64 micro sd card so is hard for me, other then that I think is a great phone. And for those that think htc is down in sales because of developer friendly.. That's a lie... The reason why half of my family go to a gs3(there is like 6 of them) id because of the aggressive Samsung ads (crazy everywhere) and I got at least 6 Co workers too, if htc would have done what Samsung did in releasing on all carriers the one x brand would have been recognized, is one of my favorites phones and if I could I would use as my secondary device

Htc will never be better than sammy and i will never give those midgets my money in exchange of their crappy way of dealing with open source and deving. Looking forward to the day they go bankrupt.
Better spec wise? Maybe, but I love my s3. The best HTC phone I've ever owned was the HTC hd2. I think I'm the only person that hated the sensation.

Harsh! lol
I have nothing against HTC, but their devices lack features I am looking for which is why I didn't originally choose the One X over my GS3. There is no denying that the One series of phones looks great though!

What about non removable battery and no extra storage? Those taiwanese midgets try to be like apple and impose their customers what they want but they do forget they are not apple and they only have a small market share so screw them and their locked bootloaders and their startegy which is new phone every 2 months. Poor htc one x owners paying 200 for their lovely hox and twonkonths later amazon has it for .01$

One x has great battery life. Ive never used an extra battery for any phone ive owned. Ive always bought an external battery/case like the mophie when i had my 4s and i have one for the sg3. As far as storage 16GB is fine for me as i dont use my phone for anything else than calling/txting which is its purpose. Unlimited data = spotify = no need for 32,64,etc. Only reason I buy more than 16GB of storage when i purchase a phone is for reselling value . Im not hating on samsung as i love my sg3 but they need to learn from other companies like apple, htc, motorola and stop making cheap feeling fragile phones.

Not fragile at all actually. Go drop the hox and u will see. Anyway this thread is stupid and should be locked. 1. Belongs to q&a 2. Is about htc device . Yes op wonders if it is coming to tmobile, but this is not the tmobile thread.
I've had a G1, Galaxy S, HTC Amaze 4g, and now my S3. Not to mention I work for a company that makes IPhone apps so I have an iPhone 4 paid by them which I keep in a box and I play with iPhone 4S, 5 a lot. I loved my G1. Hated my Galaxy S. Loved my Amaze 4g for a bit till December update ruined it, and liked a lot again with ICS update, though it just felt lagging stock and they look worn fast.
My Galaxy S3 is my favorite phone. I just does everything I need splendidly with no lag and I'm on a stock Rom with no root and no alterations. Personally, I just love the phone. Plus I also prefer it over any iPhone.

What's the point of this thread when it's been purportedly canceled? (Not even counting the fact that it's an AT&T exclusive...)

Stay away from tegra 3!!!! Nothing but issues (storage especially)
Dealt with that for months with my transformer prime.. Maybe the issues are all gone now. I would sift through the forums to see if others are still having major issues before buying. Great battery life though...
