Hey all, I just wanted to see if anyone else is having the issues that I've been having with my Epic Touch. First off... data sucks! Can barely get 4G then is disconnects, and highest download speed EVER was 4MB/sec. But that's a rare thing. 3G is spotting and always horribly slow. Next biggest issue are the calls. I get dropped calls now everyday. On average 2-3 times if I'm on the phone a lot.
This was never an issues in the past, maybe 6-9months ago. I used to give my GF crap because she always had call issues on AT&T. Now's she's on Verizon and I'm plain jealous! Great data and now lost calls.
I've used many ROMs (GB and ICS), modems, etc. Also tried stock and still horrible.
I'm thinking of trying to get out of my contract because when signed it, everything was much better. Anyone else having these issues? Any thoughts on why this is? I can only guess that this did begin to happen after Sprint got the iPhone and reported a huge increase on customers. I'm from the SF bay area and live two blocks from Google HQ. Can't be the location...

Conversion between the two is same as bits in a byte, 8. Not forgetting to factor in they use a metric of 1000 for each unit K,M,G just like hard drive manufacturers. So my 1 Gbps server uplink is 125 MB/s.

Yeah no ones argued that one yet . I used to get 8 to 15 Mbps on tests alot but not so much anymore.
I WISH!!!! I could only get 4Mbps. I get roughly 50~100kbps everywhere on Sprint.
I have to flash a Verizon PRL to get anything more and then I'm lucky to see a 1Mbps.

1 Megabit per second is equal to 0.125 megabytes per second, which would mean that 4Mbps is 0.50 MB/s.

That wikipedia article has some problems. It is a bit contradictory. On the one hand, it is correct by showing 1 megabit as being equal to 125 kilobytes, or 0.125 megabytes...but then it shows 8 megabits being equal to 1 megabyte.
The article admits problems, but I believe 0.125 is the correct conversion. Half a megabyte sounds about right when referring to 4mbps.
I have 18mpbs U-verse, which gives me a maximum of about 2.25mb/s down, which is correct, using .125 as the conversion.

To top it off, I called Sprint customer retention and expressed my displeasure with Sprint's service, and also asked for a dollar amount to buy out of my contract, and the service rep did not seem to care one bit whether or not I stayed with Sprint. I asked for an early upgrade for my family and I, and he refused. He also suggested I revert back to GB on my phone because of the problems ICS is causing, but then backed off of that idea when I explained to him how that would void my warranty (he thought doing a factory reset would revert the phone back to GB). Once he knew I knew what I was talking about, he wanted to wisk me off to tech support. His name was Tom, and now that I think about it, I need to do the survey I got for the call, and be sure to give him an appropriate low score for his poor customer service and lack of empathy and care.

Yeah that sounds like what I would expect from them at this point. I'm guess a lot of people currently have issues. A year ago, service was excellent. Really the purpose of this post was to see if anyone had actually been able to get out of their contract on the basis of decline in the quality of service. I'd be surprised though if they would let that happen.
I've been seriously contemplating moving back to T-Mobile. Sure they don't have unlimited data, but the way things stand today my Sprint service is being throttled so badly due to network congestion that I'm rarely ever hitting 2GB anymore. With T-Mobile I'd probably hit the 4GB cap, then drop to Sprint speeds, which is still a better scenario.
I keep hearing how great Network Vision will be, but they spewed the same crap with Wimax, and we all know how that's gone. I'll decide what to do once I see what the next series of Nexus devices look like. I'd love a Nexus version of a Note II.
I'm fed up with Sprint too. Once my contract is up(I think December January, which isn't that far away), I'm switching to T-Mobiles prepaid 100 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited data (throttled after 5GB) and I'm gonna buy the next Nexus(or the one with the largest screen size if there are more than one).

They are updating a lot of their towers in the bay area so your signal might improve in a few months. You might also consider an LTE device as you should have or be right around the corner from having LTE service in your area. Here's an LTE deployment map for the South Bay: Update map

If you're in Kansas you should have LTE active in your area. If not then it should be available there soon. I'd think about trying a Sprint LTE device before jumping ship. I've seen speed tests on Youtube and they are super fast on LTE. If you are fed up for reasons other than data speeds than changing carriers might be your only option. Good luck.

I believe LTE is active here. But even though I get decent wimax in my area(at least the last time I checked it connected), I haven't used WiMax at all on my E4GT that I got in march, except to do a few speed tests just to compare it to speeds on 3G and WiFi.
I have two other reasons for wanting to switch too. For one, T-Mobile gets better signal in my area, and with a prepaid plan that's a hell of a lot cheaper than Sprint, it helps. I'm getting off my parents contract and was debating between Sprint and T-Mobile prepaid.
Second, I would rather have a GSM phone than CDMA. I think that having a GSM phone would be more beneficial in case I brick my phone, where just popping the sim card would be easier than calling Sprint to activate a different phone.

I'd go with T-Mobile over sprint for prepaid, their unlimited prepaid is like 50$ a month you get 4g and its throttled after 3 or 5gb(I forget which) but speeds when throttled are still 1-3mbps and on T-Mobile you can roam on at&t for free if you end up in an area with no tmobile coverage but at&t coverage. The only downside to T-Mobile is they have crappy customer service and they don't always have the best selection of devices right away. At least they didn't when i had them for work. They always had the downgraded version. Like in my case they only had the bb pearl 8100 when everyone else had the 8190. And now they have the one s which is a slightly downgraded one x just has a little less power under the hood. Kinda like only being able to get a oz rally lancer when the other carriers have the lancer evo

Sprint freaking sucks... I was going to cancel my account (after 10 years) and go to Verizon.. but after 30 mins on the phone with cust INservice I was informed that the ETF only starts going down after 6 months (instead of immediately like I was told to begin with)... The whole time the rep was telling me the max ETF was $300 but mine was $350 and she couldn't explain it...
The constant BS from customer service and the steadily declining data speeds are making paying that $350 just to get out of it seem worth it....
PLUS... I see people talking about waiting it out.. Sprint will eventually have upgraded towers and then LTE will be here "soon" and all that... I was an early adopter of the EVO 4G and the WiMax connectivity that would "soon" come to my area... needless to say, I never got to use WiMax once...
There's no way I'm staying with Sprint for the promise of better 3G speeds or the coming of LTE - eventually
Several friends have Verizon and their speeds are WAY better and with how much data I use I'd spending almost the same amount as I am on Sprint.

Good luck with Verizon they now charge $40 per line access charge on top of your data plan and the Max data is 10gb @ $100 so for 10gb data you pay $140+tax and their customer service is 100x worse than sprint. The bare minimum plan is like 2gb data @ $30 I think plus the $40 per line access charge so your paying $70+tax for 1 line with 2gb data if you have more than one line its $40 per additional line so 2lines + 2gb data = $110 + tax or more I can't remember for sure if 2gb is $30 or $40 all I know is its a rip off and they have no other plans now except this new shared data and unlimited calls and texts scheme which all the plans are over priced on top of having that ridiculous $40 per line access charge for a family of 4 you pay $160 just in access charges plus what even minimal amount of data you want tto share for 10gb that's $260 + tax for a family of 4, on sprint I pay $207 for 4 lines with unlimited everything including unlimited hotspots and that includes tax. I'd have to be retarded or just like giving away money to switch carriers. Not to mention I live in a semi rural area and they've already begun the network vision and lte deployment in my area, and many urban areas are already seeing lte which just hasn't been officially turned on but its active and you can use it.

Thanks for this. Good to know that Bay Area is next on the list. I wonder if that really is why voice calls are almost useless (at least for me). I would think they are different towers but I have no idea.

I actually found out new T-Mobile prepaid customers have access to a $30/month plan that gives 100 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited "4G" data with throttling after 5GB. And as far as devices go, I'll probably see if the next Nexus can support T-Mobile's network like the GNex can. If not I'll buy the GNex and wait for a better device.

I have been noticing awful reception issues. Wimax keeps fizzling out on me, and I don't know who says NYC seems to be getting good 3g cuz it sure as Hell isn't me. This is with CM9, TW based runs, everything. I am hoping that the rumored lte upgrade in November/December will help matters on the 3g front. I promised my wife the next upgrade when the new iPhone comes out. Hopefully my e4gt will keep me going till another upgrade comes around.

Im currently fed up with Sprint's .30mbps download in my area. I was thinking about switching to Verizon for the Galaxy Nexus, but I couldn't imagine giving up my anymobile any time or unlimited data. Even though the data is slow and terrible now, in 1 year or more, they will have lte (maybe) and then I would kill myself for not just waiting it out.
As I said in another thread milling over what-to-do regarding the same decision:
Being over-charged for data you get is preferable to being charged anything for data you don't get.

I kind of did. I'm just stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I really started noticing slow data when I got my Evo 4G the day it came out. I'm in Phoenix and I still don't have 4G. I've waited 2 years since I got the evo 4g to get 4g and over that period of time, 3g just keeps getting slower and slower. Im sitting on the second floor of my house with 4 out of 6 bars getting .32mbps. I can see the tower from my window because its on a light pole at the school a block away from me.
Faster data just means you get to your cap faster.
What's the point?
I use WiFi enough that it doesn't matter to me.

This. I only use 3g while driving and for streaming music.
Holding out for sprint lte may be worth it if you're in a big city where you can almost guarantee it coming and they keep it unlimited. You may want to stay month to month until u decide

I feel your pain. My speeds are awful. Verizon is roaming in my area. At&t is pretty fast here. It gets about 8 mbps down and around 5 up. A lot faster than sprint.

I'm in Los Angeles - pretty big city. They've had about 2 years to get wimax working here- I get about 500k when I actually can connect to 4G before it drops. How many years you going to wait for LTE to be acceptable in a "big" city? Ask people in NYC how much they are enjoying the "fast" Wimax they are receiving.
Oh and how is that unlimited working out for people who bought data connections - do you really think Sprint who was the first to charge $10 for rich data experience on newer cells is not going to stiff you on unlimited data soon? if they ever did offer decent data speeds, I'm sure they'd charge another $10 or $25 for an "enhanced" data experience.
If I'm thirsty and someone said I can have 5 gallons of water as fast as I can drink it or I can have one teaspoonful per hour each month with no limit - I'll take the 5 gallons.

A lot of people seem to miss the point here. Yeah, you can get to the cap faster, but getting the faster speed is really just expecting you to use the same data amount, you just get it faster.

Well thats not entirely fair. 2GB isn't that much. In Cleveland I get great 4g speeds and good
(just as good as Verizon) 3g speeds, my biggest complaint is Toledo speeds (attrocious) where i'm spending most of my time nowadays, which is the main reason sprint isn't working for me great right now.
I'd switch if I didnt save tons of money on sprint (24% discount on top of their cheap plan), but I was just saying verizons biggest feature is LTE which sprint is supposed to have in 8 months or less, and 200+ markets in 2013.
No need to dog my suggestion, sprint is still cheaper than every other carrier but if their lte is unlimited and no extra charge other than the 10/Mo charge they already have, sprint will be very attractove.
switching to verizon/att on a 2yr contract is a big deal, much more pricey than sprint too. Unless you are well under 2GB and have unlimited pockets staying month to month til lte pricing is announced isn't bad.
I get your frustration, but coverage in your area is different. Sprint guarantees certain speeds for 3g/4g so if you're not meeting those call and they should let u cancel.

The new plans are $30 for 2GB per month, $50 for 5GB, and $80 for 10GB.

I am in the same boat, I drop calls left and right at my house and I recently moved and the data is just pure horrible.
I never go over 2 gb a month, The max I ever used was 3.5gb and that was when I first got the evo3d and I was doing speedtests left and right. I stream radio and music my way to work and from work. Now I have the gs2.
If I go verizon I will start out with 2 and I will just pay 10 bucks for the next 1gig and I am sure I will never go over that and my monthly discount will make up for that difference.
I used to get decent speeds at work but ever since the iphone launch I cant even hit half a meg, in the city I live I never hit even quarter mb ever since I moved here. I work in sacramento and the speeds on 3g have gotten worse, even 4g is capped at 2mb now it seems.
This! Over thr past few months I average maybe 3-4gb a month on Sprint, 3g mmostly as 4g iis way inconsistent and I a tired of data drops and awful battery life on it.
That being said, during peak hours incdenver, Sprint 3g is crawling in places I get 2mbps during off peak hours. Lately, at my gym, I can't even stream Pandora cuz it's so slow. I ended up getting tmobile for 14 days and I got about 7mbps average pretty much everywhere! Why'd I cancel? G2x was a letdown and I get sprint free. But seriously, caps are caps and I docsee myself aas being a heavy user and oon mobile, 5gb is plenty. I'm mobile a lot and rarely in one place to use wifi, I'd like to be on a network where, oh I dunno, I can at least stream youtube and not get stuck at 100-300kbps?

I was reading cnet and I came across this article. We all know by now about Sprint transitioning toward LTE, but what I didn't know according to cnet "Of course, this won’t extend to LTE, but offering unlimited 3G and WiMAX plans may be enough to keep many customers from jumping ship until Sprint’s a bit more competitive in the LTE market."
I thought we keep our unlimited data plan, after all I am paying $10 extra for the so called 4G, and when Sprints 4G speed catches up to all the other carriers, I have to switch to a capped plan?! I hope this is not true.

I read this before, what caught my attention is that folks on 3G and "clearwire 4G" keep their unlimited plan. So if I want 4G LTE, I have to switch plans?
Maybe I'm a bit jaded, but i've learned to expect nothing in concessions or good will from Sprint. There is a clear movement toward penny pinching with current subscribers (fees, SERO) and crowd pleasing with new subscribers (iPhone, "unlimited" data... for a fee).
Who knows, maybe they parlay the current premium data fee into a double-premium data $20 fee for LTE devices, with a $10 admin fee. Probably not, but rewind two years and ask yourself if you'd expect them to do what they did in the last 6 quarters...
It will probably depend on the success of current spectrum deals and LTE rollout speed. Sprint's LTE on its own is not enough because they have only half the spectrum of Verizon. However, if Clearwire and Lightsquared successfully develop their LTE networks, then Sprint may still be able to offer unlimited 4G LTE to subscribers.

Hmm... ok. Well would it be worth it to stay with Sprint IF they limit data since Sprint's LTE is apparently only half of what Verizon has?

If unlimited data plans disappear, I will probably leave Sprint. But it will also depend on pricing and coverage where I live at the time.

That is funny.. A while ago I was on the phone and I was *****ing at sprint in my most professional manner and I said that.. "I'm paying extra for this 4g that I can't even take advantage of because of my area" The lady was quick to correct me and call it the premium data package. I love how they change the wording to avoid issue.
I'm confident that I too wil be leaving sprint. My bill really isn't much cheaper than my friends who have Verizon or ATT. Pretty much what pushed me over the edge was when they got rid of my ability to upgrade every year and then also took away the 1 year contract. I'll more than likely buy whatever phone I want and never be held to a contract again but the value in me being able to get a new phone every year and sell my old one.. Well that was too good to pass up. With out that ability.. See ya.

I too am switching...this Thursday or Friday when the galaxy nexus arrives. I'm going to take advantage of Verizon's awesome service in my area, that's almost 2mbps 3g and over 20mbps lte, my employer discount of 19 percent, double data promotion and the Google supported galaxy nexus.
Coming from sprints 200 kbps 3g speeds here and no 4g, this is gonna be a hell of an upgrade.

I've been waiting for 3G to be fixed in Milwaukee since 2009 when I had the Hero. Every month I get a new excuse that they're upgrading the towers in my area later on in the month.

Data here in Wauwatosa is sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Just sitting in my house, I can go from 150KBps (kiloBYTES) to 5KBps in the same evening from one day to the next at the same general time.
However, when I'm in Chicago, Sprint has far better data speeds than my co-workers who are on Verizon.
So weird.
To clear up one misconception: we're not paying the $10 for 4G. Sprint stopped claiming that early on. It's on all premium phones, even the ones that don't support 4G. They claim it's a premium for premium phones which are more likely to use the network more heavily. No tie directly to 4G at all anymore.

Anecdotal speed test conducted today at a Chicago area Starbucks:
My ET4G w/ EK02 modem: 4 megabit down
Friend's Thunderbolt LTE CM7: 17 megabit down
We ended up tethering my phone off his device so he can play around with it and render a few commonly visited webpages to "experience" dual core/1gb ram.
He's gonna buy the Nexus Prime off-contract next week D:
I always forget about 4g, since we don't (officially) have it in the Milwaukee area.
The one unofficial 4g tower I'm ever around (near the airport) gives me about 12mbit. Of course, in that area I pull almost 2mbit on 3g there...
I know the sprint 4g towers have a very short range... Once I get more than a mile away from the 4g, the speeds drop dramatically fast. Knowing Sprint, they probably have just four towers covering all of Chicago.

I never see anything over 250 kpbs at home, sometimes it's lower than 30 kbps. I can't drive and stream music or even watch youtube videos on 3G. When I had my hero (2009) I was getting 1.3mbps constant.There's no way they've been working on the towers for over a year with no results. We're paying for 3G and 4G and not getting either.
There's a rumor on the sprint forum that sprint sold half of their towers to cricket mobile.

So after have a iphone 3g and iphone 4 for last 4 years I am pretty sick of having basically the same thing for 4 years other than my 4 has a better processor and screen compared to 3G. So I'm looking to get out of the iphone and my contract just ended on saturday.
I have been looking and considering getting the S3 but I am very conflicted at the moment. I live in Charlotte NC and both at&t 4g lte and verizon's 4g lte are offered in Charlotte but verizon's lte coverage just smacks at&t's lte coverage(especially in the southeast u.s.).
As of right now I still have unlimited with at&t but just do to the vastness of verizon's lte coverage I have been wanting to switch for sometime and especially since my wife has a Razr on verizon lte I've been blown away by it compared to at&t normal 3g speeds of course.
I do travel with work so the coverage is important but basically I'm not sure if it's worth giving up my unlimited data with extreme lack of lte but great amount of hspa+ for verizon's lte.
and yes I see the reports on the locked bootloader from verizon... which has me thinking maybe I should just wait on this leaked and possible Razr HD or just say screw you verizon.

At&t's "Unlimited" is not unlimited for LTE. You only get 5GB per month. I know that's a lot of data, but you'd be surprised how fast that gets used up, AND you will get throttled after that until you next billing cycle. So you may need to take that into consideration.

Not exactly, there are differences.
On a grandfathered unlimited plan you get up to 5GB of data with an LTE device, 3GB on a non-LTE device. After 5GB (or 3GB) you will be throttled till your next billing cycle. As low as 160k with my past experiences of being throttled, which is useless.
On a tiered plan 3GB ($30) or 5GB ($50) you will get billed an extra $10 per GB you go over until your bill cycle ends. You do not get throttled on this plan, you just pay the overage. Its set up differently than the unlimited plan.

was on iPhone 4..i still have my grandfather unlimited* been throttled once on 3G was bad speeds... hows is when on throttle 4G LTE ? edge like speeds? thats how it was on my i4 on 3G.. i know ill hit it again but never on LTE yet
the debate for me really is att lte vs. verizon lte as a att 5g throttlecap will be there with my unlimited or switch to verizon and get 4gb or 6gb shared. either way neither are truly unlimited. Yea att may still be unlimited but just google searching and seeing throttling results around 16k... it's like wow... useless..what works at 16k dl??? what do i choose? 5gb throttle cap or verizon 4 or 6gb cap, and that's before we get into the fact verizon is locked.

EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR YOUR 1ST ANDROID DEVICE. I CAME FROM THE 4S AND WILL NEVER GO BACK. IF YOU SAY THE COVERAGE IS BETTER WITH VERIZON I'D GIVE THEM THE EDGE HERE.

YOU'VE KINDA ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTIONS. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. I have the S3 on att in vegas, and I get 20-25MBs on LTE. I've just had to change my data habits and use wifi as much as possible (@work and @home). I stay under 3GB per month so I'm happy.

Well I got the Skyrocket about 6 months ago, my first LTE device. I had unlimited but at the time I was getting throttled at 2GB. That was a week into my billing cycle. The Skyrocket threads were blowing up with throttling and how to bypass it. There was a minor fix, being able to switch to an older APN, but we only got HSPA speeds, 1-1.5MBs. I couldn't take it anymore and gave in to AT&T and switched to a 5GB tiered plan. A couple months after that, there was a lawsuit against AT&T and the people won, so AT&T switched their policy and gave unlimited users 5GB for the same $30. Needless to say I wasn't allowed to switch back to my unlimited so I got screwed due to my impatience. When I got throttled i was getting about 160k. It was useless and my phone was unusable for internet, that's why I switched.

thanks for that info..ill see what happen when i hit my 5GB cap..sucks what AT&T do to loyal customers...when i got throttle on my iphone 4 3G it was not all the time i get slow speeds just depends on day/hour of day when cell towers are not hammered.. sucks that you dont have the unlimited data 30$ on 5GB sorry bout that.. I'd say stick with AT&T. They have the better network. Their H+ "4G" is more than enough to do anything and they are deploying that across the nation as well as their LTE network. H+ averages 5-8 megs for me. Basically their fall back network is loads better than Verizon's cdma network. Not sure who has the faster lte speeds but Verizon's got more markets when it comes to lte. However they have had nation wide LTE outages where I don't think AT&T has yet. I think we can all agree AT&T has worst customer service though. Hope this helps.

As far as throttling goes for AT&T unlimited users supposedly gets throttled at 5 gigs of data. Biggest AT&T data plan is 5 gigs for 50 bucks. I'd say stick with unlimited (which is 30 I believe).

I'll second that, I have heard no good stories about Verizon recently.

Note that I am not referring to their somewhat misleading advertising that calls all of their plans "unlimited," but instead the $20/mo extra per line that gives you supposedly unlimited LTE.
I'll be living in a large city with excellent LTE coverage in the near future, and I had considered this plan option, possibly even to replace a home internet connection using a ROM with built in tethering, etc. But I don't know if there's some fine print somewhere that they would throttle it after a point, possibly down to 3g speeds or something? I use a lot of netflix, I would estimate my daily combined home cable + current wireless monthly bandwidth consumption somewhere in the neighborhood of 100gb/mo if not more.

Interesting. I was on the My T-mobile app once and saw that it said unlimited data but in parentheses it said something around 9,000gb. So that would be considered unlimited if you look at it since it's monthly and don't see anyone ever going above that in a month with hardcore downloading.
I only got 2.5 gig for 10 buck a month most of the time im on wifi.

Well that would be less disheartening if so. $20/mo for truly unlimited LTE that's faster than the local cable company would be well worth it to me, even if I got it alongside a home connection. But these days, I'm just paranoid that the truly unlimited data days with consistent speeds no matter how much you consume each month might be by the wayside. At some point into that 9,000gb they might try to slow you down?
My T-Mobile reps in the local store didn't have an answer for me on this one, and I don't relish the idea of trying to get one from the 1-800 number.
After you use your high speed data limit you will get slowed down to 2g speeds.

Truly Unlimited/No throttling LTE @ $20/mo.
Compared to Sprint No LTE in my area
Even beat out Verizon S3 in a side by side comparison speedtest, 2 out of 3 tests, one draw, in an enclosed room in the middle of an office building.

I saw that 4G limit of 9.899gb in ( ) on my first invoice, and I was like, What??
I called T-Mobile and spoke to a rep.
It's just the way the billing system is set up to describe Unlimited 4G LTE, but yes, you Are getting Unlimited LTE, no throttling, she explained to me. Of course I asked her the same thing 2 more times in slightly different ways, as at first her explanation sounded suspicious. But I verified it 3 times in total. I did believe her, and subsequent LTE usage have shown that the Rep was telling the truth, as I have Unlimited 4G LTE without throttling
I used over 65 Gb last month of data and not a problem. I tether my entire house (changed user agents in computer browsers top avoid detection) and love it. I pay $70 a month. Can't beat this plan. It's the best deal I've seen around.

So after attempting to complete the Google Wallet fix for the galaxy s4 on T Mobile I ran into an issue where my 4G speeds and LTE speeds were much much lower than normal, somewhere in the range of 10 percent of normal. After attempting to remedy this every way possible short of flashing back to pure stock, including restoring modified rooted stock, I called customer care and was very surprised to find that the representative informed me that a mere 2mbit (2000kbps) classified as 4G LTE speeds to them.
Yeah you read that correctly; You will receive little to no support provided your connection is as fast as the average speed on Sprint's dilapidated and failing 3G network. I love T-Mobile for many reasons but this is just shocking. I did not spend 600 after taxes on a device capable of such insane speeds that it's faster than about 80 of American high speed Internet access, and 120 a month on a family plan with unlimited data, to be told that going backwards a decade in connection speed is "current generation".
I advise you call a rep today and confirm this, then email the ceo with me and let him know that this is not acceptable. Should he be serious about turning T-Mobile around, then he needs to cut the subscription to the typical carrier bs that helped me drive my friends away from sprint and att (crap service and speeds in our area) and into the welcoming service of T-Mobile.
Update: I had to ODIN pure stock to get my data speeds back.

Were you able to get Google Wallet working again with Root after using Odin to get your speeds back to normal? I'm about to get a GS4 on Friday and ideally want to have Google Wallet, Root, Tethering and LTE working. Just wondering what might not work and will... Thanks!
It may just be my device or rom but I find that the connection justs seems to hangup for lack of a better word. I have a meter showing my data usage in kb/s and if I hit the go button for a webpage it seems to do nothing and not use any data.

Take everything the rep says with a grain of salt, they often just say things because they aren't exactly sure. This, unfortunately causes confusion and people hearing different things. I get around 25-35 Mbps in my area and some people get even more.

Should he be serious about turning T-Mobile around, then he needs to cut the subscription to the typical carrier bs that helped me drive my friends away from sprint and att (crap service and speeds in our area) and into the welcoming service of T-Mobile.
Update: I had to ODIN pure stock to get my data speeds back.

T-Mobile isn't responsible for any modifications you make to your own device. You made the mistake of implementing the fix, so deal with the consequences. It's really that simple. :good:
That's why they use the term "up to." Not every single person will receive 20+ mbps. It also depends on the amount of towers, the distance of those towers and how many people are connected to them.

I agree 100% with this.
Also wish to comment that T-Mobile is VERY helpful when it comes to getting me better speeds. I was getting approx 100 kB/s download at my house which gets 4G HSPA and i called and complained. And they said that for 4G those speeds are horrible and sent a technition out to see what the issue was. The following day THEY called me back and explained there was some technical issues with the tower in my area. I think it had to do with the routing of the packets. But anyhow, they were extremely helpful with everything and now my speeds are back to 250 kB/s average And when i am at school, i get LTE my speeds there are NEVER below 1 MB/sand on good days sky rocket to 2 MB/s (advertised speeds) and sometimes even faster. I have already hit 3 MB/s it really depends on what towle said. Users on the network, what they are doing what you are doing etc etc.

I understand that, but when I've gone back to a STOCK rom and it's still happening, something's not right.

I understand this entirely, however, I was less than a quarter mile from a tower sitting at home getting ~5000kbps, when normally I get 20000+. I also had slow speeds between 3 towers that I know carry T-Mo service and it never once got better until I ODIN flashed the stock ROM again.

You're measuring in Bytes, I'm measuring in bits, there's 8 bits to every Byte, and when you get 250kB x 8 = 2000kbps or 2mbit, the speed the T-Mo rep quoted me as what they expect you to get. When you were getting 2MB/sec, you're getting 16000kbps, which is normal for HSPA+ and decent T-Mo LTE.
Either way, I got it fixed, however their low-end expectations are very disheartening. I just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention that if you're getting more than 2000kbps (250kB/sec), don't bother calling T-Mo, they won't help you in regards to speeds, even if you're parked right under a tower that practically nobody else is on.
For the record, I consider this "decent LTE"
I just got LTE in my area and in getting 10 Mbps, about a mile away I was getting 20 Mbps.
Not too bad for a city that didn't have LTE when the i9500 1st dropped. I ditched the int'l version for the M919 and have no regrets !
I am having data problems as well.
I was getting awesome LTE speeds after the roll out here in the Dallas area. Went on vacation to the US Virgin islands in late June and upon returning, my speeds plunged to as low as 200 Mkbps where I was getting awesome speeds as high as 15000 mbps (as per speedtest) before this.
I'm not one to go only by test numbers or what the graph says. But I am experiencing real world page lags, drops, pages hanging up, no service notices and regularly seeing the Edge symbol.
As the OP says, I am getting lots of help from Tmo, even exchanging the S4 for a new one. (had to fight to get a surprise 150. fee rescinded after they claimed my pristine unit had a broken screen, but that is a different post)
But the problem has persisted. They have reset my account several times and are in the process of resetting it now. Said wait 72 hours and it will be fixed. Said should be fixed by weds. I remain skeptical, they said that once already....so much so that I bought a Experia Z Sat. (jury is still out on that)
The girl at tech support suggested I wait on replacing it but I've simply had enough of this.
I am convinced that it is on Tmos end.
And I can definitely confirm the gist of this post. Everyone I have talked to, literally a dozen people, have had the balls to tell me that Tmo considers 2000 a good LTE speed. I call BS.
I reall like my S4 a lot and don't like that the Z has a nonremovable battery. My wish is to keep the S4.
I've not had a chance to do much with this X, so can't yet compare performance.

I have gotten speeds as high as 24.53 Mbps with google wallet installed. It blows my home internet away
You must be in love with Sprint to believe that 2 Mbps is sprints 3G. Sprints 4G Wimax barely...BARELY hits 3 Mbps. Sprint 3g is equal to T-Mobile 2G. I did a test in the Bay Area, California, and tmobile beat att and verizon, at 32 mbps and att was at 24 mbps while verizon only hit 8 mbps. All with 3 bars of lte.
I have been noticing that the internet speed has been dropping lately, and I believe its because of the purchasing of metro, along with them ALL wanting iPhone and lte. So people that have trouble paying their bills (ive seen the average customers, I know what they look like. Theres a few that are just like you and me, but most show off their lower class status with their huawei and zte phones.) So its Metros fault for selling out. I noticed that my internet on an att unlocked iphone 5 has been dropping and lagging the past few days, and switching to a gs4 shows that its the carrier, or my account. So, I doubt your phone is the problem.

I used to be one of those "lower class status" users, I had a stupid little Huawei Ascend on cricKet (MetroPCS partner), and while I rooted and modded it to hell, the service sucked. I migrated to AT&T and found they weren't much better, then moved back to my old carrier, T-Mo and have been happy overall. I know that after the purchase of MetroPCS, that cricKet would be the partner of T-Mo out here and all those phones (more people in the area that I -lived- in the same area as me (not out of town college kids in for the semester) have cricKet) would be bogging the network down, but it still performed well enough. In the thick of the cricKet area called Mesa, AZ, I still got over 20mbit on HSPA+ and LTE. I knew as soon as they announced all the high end phones prior to the purchase of MetroPCS for both they and cricKet that they wouldn't have the network to support it, then T-Mo purchase happened, I knew I would suffer in areas where everyone and their dog has these phones. I also know their model of pre-pay month to month was highly abused out here so I expect that bandwidth is gonna be extremely limited at times, but dropping from 24mbps normally to 2mbps is 1/12th, ridiculous. Anyways, it's back to normal, I just try to stay as far away from towers with large groups of idiots on them which is kind of hard to do around here.
EDIT: My dad has Sprint (I tried to steer him far far away from that BS but he wouldn't budge), he gets like 2-5mbps on his Note 2 which doesn't get WiMax AFAIK, only 3G, it's ready for the 4G/LTE but Sprint has lied for 4 years straight about LTE deployment out here, I'm just waiting for him to get fed up with unsent messages and dropped calls enough to give up and jump ship finally, however that won't be until he finishes his new 2-year contract like a fool.
