Hi guys, any help would be appreciated. Basically in order to charge my phone i have to plug the cable in and reboot my phone so it knows its charging even when this is done it doesnt charge correctly as it usually jumps 50-60% after the reboot. Then using throughout the day it will drop suddenly then tell me its charging even though its not plugged in and the battery % actually goes up. This was fairly amusing but now im worried. The second problem is now my computer no longer regonises my phone saying its malfuctioned and my phone doesnt know its plugged in untill after a reboot where it will charge but again not register its plugged into a computer.
To me its seems like a software fault however after a data wipe/factory reset and battery stats wipe and reflash the problem persits. I am on AOKP M4 with latest franco nightly.
Ive put it down to three things that i did that night:
1) accidently plugged it into my tablet charger
2)used the fast charge on franco's app i have disabled this with no effect
3)Had a system UI crash after my torch went funny
Edit: Tablet charger output is 5.3v, 2.0A for my touchpad
Lol, this seems to be quite a big problem.. I did a quick search on this forum over the last two months, and found these threads with the same problem:

The problem is a faulty USB port, and Samsung/Google really should take action on this!
I took action myself and changed it myself..
Thanks
Wow ok thanks, I did do a little search nothing seemed exactly like my problem but yes a few of them threads do so thanks for putting all that leg work in hah. Ah if i opened it up don't think i could put it back together. Thanks for the advice.
I know, a lot of posts about it, but my issue is a little bit different.
First of all my GNex (originally on AOKP but get on stock a couple of days ago) charge normally when powered off.
Not really normally, because the animation of recharge makes a strange loop:
1) full battery with the lightning symbol for about 5 secs
2) charging animation loop, 15-20 seconds
3) black screen for about 5 seconds (it seems to "turn off")
4) back on step 1) and so on
This way i'm able to full charge my battery
When turned on (even after hours of wall charging, stock charger and stock battery btw) it ALWAYS shows 85% of battery.
It cant be charged, by wall charger or a pc/mac cable - AND it can't be seen by Mac/Pc - with debugging turned on of course.
Have i got to assume that is still a hardware issue (i checked the connector position as suggested in a tons of forum - it's perfectly centered and there is a space between the pins and the bottom of the connector)
How is possible it's an hardware issue if is charging while powered off?
Another question. If i unroot it, will the samsung official warranty repair my gnex?
thanks in advance

Yes. Just flash stock again. On your subject, I would just return it. Have you tried replacing the battery?

Yes, a friend's GNEX battery have the same issue (and the wall charger too)
I bring the phone to an assistant service in my town (just for a look about the connector).
The guy told me that it seems ok, for him this is a software issue or maybe an internal hardware
My problem is, how can i unroot my gnex without connecting it to my pc (fastboot doesnt work, tried yesterday)????
cant find a solution for that

I experienced the same thing you're going through bro.. And i can assure you that the problem lies with the software. Here's what i did.. If you are rooted.. reboot to recovery and wipe battery stats.. And see if that works.. If not, i also tried taking the battery out for 5 min. good luck

My GNex will not turn on. At all. It's an unlocked/non-rooted toro running stock. Hoping to find some help here...
Last night I noticed my phone froze up, so I went to do a battery pull/reboot - but it would not turn back on. I plugged it into a charger, no dice. Thinking it might be the battery, I pulled it - while plugged into charger....nothing.
Here's the thing: when I plug it into the charger, I get the same battery icon with the bolt inside...then instead of the charging animation that I would normally see, the battery icon is full and no animation. then the screen goes black. This is the only activity I can get out of the phone.
I found a similar thread issue on rootzwiki, but its solution (pull battery, plug in charger, insert battery, voila) - but this did not work for me.
Any ideas or am I just hosed?
Could be a problem with the USB port. I just got mine fixed last week. I had charging issues and my PC didn't recognize my phone. I'd say get it fixed because I see no way you can try to solve the issue yourself.
Only option is to try a charged battery.

Try cleaning the battery copper squares and the phone copper prongs with a pencil eraser lightly. It happened to me and that worked for me.Make sure to blow off any eraser junk.

Thanks for the suggestion - I doubt it's a USB port issue - especially since I get a charging icon, followed by a solid battery icon - after I plug it in. BUT - I will definitely stop by my store and see if there is anything they can do on site.
Good news is that my insurance will cover the replacement - bad news is that the phone was unlocked (hopefully they can't get it working to notice), and I have somewhat sensitive files on my phone that I would like to ensure are wiped...or even recovered if they have a backdoor recovery gadget.

Dude, check out this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760787. I don't know if he had the same problem, but its worth a look.
it has happened to me, it may sound ridiculous, but it worked for me and others, it's hardware, but a minor issue.
STEPS
pull out ur battery, drop ur fone at a knee height on the bed
insert battery, turn on, or connect charger.
if it doesn't on, then drop at an ankle height on a rug,(if u are brave, drop on the floor at ankle height)
insert battery or connect charger with battery inserted
this methods are tested and confirmed on gnex and galaxy s2

LOL - you're right, it does sound rediculous. But - I might as well give it a try, amirite? I'll report back when I can later this evening.
My phone won't turn back on or charge anymore. The last thing i did was pause Google Music, then the phone just sat there. It wouldn't go to the home screen or anything, it froze. I pulled the battery and now it won't turn on or charge at all. Won't display the battery charging when i have it connected to the computer or wall. Can't enter fastboot either. I'm currently at work and the computers here wont recognize it when i connected via USB.

I doubt it's bricked. Will it start up into the bootloader?
Again, try pulling the battery for a few minutes. Then put everything back together but wait until you have access to a true USB charger, not a USB port on a computer. I've noticed with a few phones in the past (GNex included) that sometimes when I had a bad crash and the phone went unresponsive, that trying to get a hint of life while using a USB port didn't work as well as a charger. You'll probably have to leave it plugged in for a little bit, but after 15-30 minutes you should once again at least get the white battery charging icon to display front-and-center if you give the power button a single push. At that point, try booting into fastboot, then recovery and clean things up a bit before rebooting into android (Wipe Caches, Fix Permissions).
If not, seriously, do everything again, and wait with it charging overnight. I had a similar issue with my Nexus 10 after doing my first unroot and flashing on it. It took nearly an hour, but then I finally got the charging icon (in that case though, a battery pull wasn't feasible).

Yeah i tried all of that since 1 pm yesterday, that's when it just died on me. I have left the phone charging for over an hour and still don't get any sign of life, not even the white battery charging icon. Left the phone charging overnight, that didn't work also. I tried the OMAP fix but that also failed, it isn't recognized by my laptop.
That's a bummer. Once I had an Epic 4G that I also thought was bricked but the "leave it charge overnight" method worked even though the charging led wasn't on at all. I'm surprised that I now have seen an actual thread with a truly bricked device, not the usual "my phone is going into boot loops its bricked!" thread. Sorry to hear it man.
This may be irrelevant to you, but mine is on verizon and was having charging problems. I went into one of their stores and they had a replacement on the way in under 15 minutes of me coming in. Great service from them if that's who you're with carrier-wise.

Everything was working perfectly on mine, the battery was at 80%. I'm with T-Mobile and i know they don't carry the Galaxy Nexus. Would a Verizon store let me check if a new battery will be turn it back on? If not, guess i have no other choice but to call Samsung =/

Well that sucks Guess, it's time to call Samsung
First of all I read all the possible posts here in the XDA forum about this problem but no one was able to help me :s
I was listening music with my cellphone than it crashed and turned of from nohting. My first thought was "Damm, it crashed!" and I removed the battery and after a couple minutes I put it back and than the cellphone never turned on again. No battery status is showing up, no leds, odin and flash mode doens't work either. I don't no what to do :s
I tried this:
◘ Unplug from USB, remove battery 5 min, put it back
◘ Odin and Flash mode
◘ Turn it on without battery on pc
◘ Turn it on while recharging
My GNexus model is a I9250 GSM.
Could you add some more details? How long the phone's been in operation, refurbished?, rooted?, your current ROM, kernel, radios, advanced kernel settings such as voltage changes, any tweaks, battery type, temperature.
This exactly happened to me on my DroidX. I spent 2 weeks trying everything to revive it including taking the phone apart before adding it to the pile and getting my current GNexus Toro.. so I know how much this sucks. I'm not an expert on phones bricking but I know that connections can go bad or come loose, especially if the phone has been dropped or other impact, components start to lose their integrity over time and voltage shorts 'burn out' op-amps. You mentioned listening to music, so I'm wandering about the IVA components burning out, which usually has voltage too high especially on boot... Hope you can get it working.

Well first of all I thank you for your concern and my phone is on again, thanks to my uncle. The phone is '4 months old', I rooted last month, bootloader unlocked and I was using samsung stock rom (4.2.1 JB). Yeah, that really suck monkey b*lls. If you got the same problem as me (I really hope not) that's what you should do: First remove the battery, plug the charger and than put the battery back. In my case, It kind "shorted" the battery and my phone is back on. I was reading posts and posts and discovered that GNexus has this problem and a lot. Dunno when it can happen again but I really don't want a paperweight. Once again, thank you!
Glad you got your Nexus back up and runnning. Thanks for posting back with details after you figured out the problem and got your phone working, +1 right there. There's always a good chance this will help out someone later on. :good:
Confirmation: balums worked for me
balums uncle's solution worked for me: specifically, (1) removed USB power, (2) removed battery, (3) applied USB power, (4) inserted battery, (5) press power button.
Thanks balums!
Does anybody have technical (design/EE) insight into what would cause this?
This was starting from a device that appeared totally dead.
The battery was *fully charged* (and showed up that way immediately when the device finally booted).
I had done the obvious things of removing/inserting the battery, cleaning contacts, checking the USB power connection.
Was about to pull it apart when I saw balums post, saving me huge time.
Device is about 16 months old. Stock OS and settings. First time this has happened.
Search terms:
CDMA (Verizon) Samsung Galaxy Nexus -- SCH-i515.
Phone won't boot. Device won't turn on. Won't start. Dead. No worky.
Thanks,
Seth
Awesome! You trick worked, balums!
Interestingly I also have the standard stock version of OS and Hardware which I bought 14 Months ago (nearly to the day). I was surfing over WiFi yesterday evening and when I turned the phone off I noticed the screen getting grey for a moment, not black. And this morning the Nexus just didn't turn on.
Anyway, thanks for the solution, have a nice day!
That is very odd because my i515 also did the exact same thing and I have owned it for 15 months. I can't wait to get home and try this trick. More to come.
Drew
Thanks!

Hey Balums,

Galaxy nexus wont turn on or charge.
I tried (1) removed USB power, (2) removed battery, (3) applied USB power, (4) inserted battery, (5) press power button but my galaxy nexus still dont turn on. i have 4.2.2 stock rooted. i was downloading something and my screen become weird in colors and i cent use the phone. i turn it of and now wont turn on again or charge.
after unlocking and rooting i installed this touch recovery from google play. [ROOT]Recovery Tools
Excellent! balums' suggestion helped me. I thought I had tried this before but apparently didn't quite get this in the right sequence.
The only remaining issue I have now is that when it does turn on, I've got the thunderbolt on the battery indicator, the phone says it's charging at the lock screen, but when I go to Battery under Settings it says that the battery is discharging. This effectively has my phone in a state where I can't unplug it (battery is too low but it also doesn't appear to actually "charge"). I tried replacing the Micro USB charge port PCB board and came up with the same results. To me, this seems like a problem and may indicate a motherboard or battery connection issue. I used the "Battery Monitor Widget" and it indicated that it was getting AC power. Any thoughts?
Thanks to XDA and Balum's suggestion! I thought my phone just died! It was on 70somethign % battery last I looked, connected by USB to the PC and I don't know if I turned it off and walked away for a while or if it turned off by itself, but it would not turn on no matter what I did after I got back to my desk. It is on Android 4.3 takju stock not rooted.
Thank you all again for the instructions on how to revive the GNex!
Samsung Galaxy Nexus won't power up
I got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I got it from my cousin and therefore don't have any information about the rooting status as well as the ROM but i guess it was running stock. The phone won't turn ON, it is not detected in the computer. No LED or any other indication. I tried the above method which worked for many people but it failed. What is special about the phone is that the upper part of the screen is heating up more as compared to the rest of the phone. Can somebody help me fix this? Is this a hardware issue?
I have the EXACT same problem as you do. I have no idea where to start to try to fix it. I took a picture, then lines went squiggly across the screen, then it flickered, and died. I cannot power it on at all. I tried Uncle's tricks. No luck.
Anyone have some ideas on what to try? Thanks.

Also having the same problem. My Nexus has been rebooting randomly for the past week or so, and finally, this morning, it refuses to turn on at all.
It's a Verizon Galaxy Nexus running stock, but it's been rooted. I'm using the extended battery. The trick that was posted earlier in this thread doesn't seem to work for me. I've tried multiple USB cables and power sources.
I'm going to try the standard battery when I get home, but I'm not expecting positive results.
Work-around
About two months ago whenever I turned my Gnex off, it became totally unresponsive to all attempts to start again. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered that if I pulled the battery for 30-60 minutes and reinstalled, it would power on normally. I have completely wiped and rooted the phone and the problem persisted.
Today I thought about it some and realized there may be some residual charge in the phone, and my waiting period is to allow the charge to drain. To test this theory, I powered the phone down and then tried to restart - nada. Pulled and reset the battery - nada. Pulled the battery, shorted out all four pins that would make contact with the battery, reinstalled battery, and it powered right up. I have not been able to successfully repeat a fast restart when shorting out all four pins. Pulling the battery and waiting 30-60 mins still works.
Incidently about the same time, my screen has stopped auto rotating (and yes it is set to do so).

my galaxy nexus is about 1 year old now and this is the first time that i've encountered a problem with it. I don't know whats wrong with it. please help/

Similar problem + water
Ok, so I have a similar situation I believe. My phone took a swim. I left it off and riced it. Later on after I believed it to be dry enough, i turned it on. (wow it freaking worked) After a few seconds of using the device checking screen the phone snapped off and went into a reboot. I waited until it came back and i shut it down and thought I'd let it go over night. I plugged it in and let it charge (charge icon was displaying). Everything looked good.
Fast forward. Morning time. I go to turn the phone on. Nothing.
This time the phone won't boot. Instead all i see is the white battery icon show up indicating the battery is 100%. When i plug it in to the charger i get the battery with the charging bolt, then it shows the normal battery indicator light. After that, I get nothing.
I tried the method I saw above. remove power, remove battery, apply usb power, insert battery, press power. Sadly it didn't work.
Anyone have any other ideas as to what might be going on?
