Bad flash do it again... I had the same issue updated everything and nothing helped til I rebooted wiped and reflashed rom.
Or try to install superuser and see what happens

I was reading somewhere that if you restore a backup the permissions or something get screwy and the only known fix is to re-flash the rom. it sucks

Thanxx guys....just got home gonna try to install su again being that super su gives me an option to clean up the binaries to install regular su.
If anything I'm downloading Aokp again just in case.

Had the same issue. I had to reflash. This occured after a Nandroid backup for me.

Have to re-flash, I had the same issue, I did not realize I was on a Nandroid backup. Just do a fresh re-flash and you should be good to go. All of my probs with this are posted in the themes area, they are in the Android pissing on Apple boot animation thread =)

Hello,
I rooted my X10 mini and still can't delete stock apps from the system folder. The root explorer shows R/W but when I try to delete a .apk it says "Delete failed".
I'm not very confortable with flash or re-flash (stock ROM). Can you help me?

I had the same problem, I fixed it by going from CWM 5.x.x to CWM 6.x.x

Try using Titanium Backup.

Thank you for the replies.
I was able to uninstall stock apps (Neoreader, Office suite, ...) through Titanium Backup.

Remember, you can't delete a file that is IN USE, ie; system files. You need to freeze/disable them first THEN delete them! Watch what you delete though, some files are needed, some files that you least suspect, and will cause problems if you delete them.

I'm experiencing something similar.
I have root on stock os but recovered from nandroid.
I can create folders, files, rename, edit text etc on some directories, yet I am unable for others.
I am trying to undrestand if this is because of
1) Nandroid backup
2) files are in use and I cannot edit or create folders in those directories?
I am trying to create folders and edit files in the /sys directory.

Are you using the 'Root Explorer' app to do this? If not, I suggest you get that from the Play store first. Secondly, make sure the "root privileges" are enabled in Superuser for the app.
If you have already done what I mentioned and still occur problems, may I ask what folders in the 'sys directory' you are trying to change? As majority of the files/folders you are seeing in that folder are there for a reason and named accordingly for your phone to utilize that directory and keep the phone working.

i was trying to change or create a new folder for the CPU states because my cpu spy wasn't reading any cpu states (which is another problem im facing).
1) With root privileges am I suppose to be able to create folders in any directory? I seem to be able to create/rename/edit files only in some directories. I seem to have the option to mount as r/o and r/w only on certain folders. The other folders defaulted to mount as r/w. I've also changed permission on the folders as well.
2) Why can't my BBS and CPU Spy read my cpu states, but can only read it when i enter in with my SetCPU app?

Unless you know the exact name and which sub-directory to place the folders to link with the apps you have mentioned, I suggest you do not add or modify anything.
The apps such as CPU Spy utilizes your phones kernel to determine what your usage is. What kernel are you using for your phone? Maybe flashing a new one would help.
I'll look in to the issue more and post any other solutions if I find any. Good luck!

1) I understand that its not too safe to mess around anyhting in that directory. But.....can regular rooted users with RE edit that folder? If so, its a problem I'm experiencing. If not, then probably because that folder is in use. When I enter /sys, its mounted as r/w but there is no option for me to change it to r/o.
2) Everything is stock. I understand that CPUSpy may not work on certain custom roms, but what about stock?

The app may not be compatible with a stock ROM/kernel. Hopefully someone else on a stock ROM can help you confirm that.

That's a possibility.
However do you know why or how I can get cpu spy to work after I use set cpu?

I've never needed to use CPU Spy as SetCPU is more than enough, so I apologize if for not being able to answer that question. It just seems like a compatibility issue with what you are currently using, nothing for you to be worried about.

If that's the case, then it's a problem specific to the ROM. I haven't tried it on my TP2 but it worked flawlessly on my G1.
Lemme take a look once I get a second.

Because it does not excist in winmo. It only excists in android.
I tried Root Explorer and it workers . I use latest froyo build with lower incall volume kernel .
Can somebody tell me when I delete apps in system/apps folder I delete from data.img or from system.ext2 ?
Same here, I change my build.prop file or replace it and it gets overwritten.
Using the build.prop for protected apps but can't get it to stay.
I am using the latest BLAZEN build from PPCGEEKS/Reefer.
Being an Ext2 file instead of sqsh I figure this would have worked flawless.
I'd really like to download logmein, gbahours, paypal and a few other protected apps. I can't without fixing this build.prop file....
OR
Find some way to get a working fingerprint Google has already approved.
Glad to see I'm not the only one looking into this I have the same problem in my android OS - different phone, but same custom OS. Hopefully this thread won't die - if I ever figure it out I'll be sure to post here as well

And, I have tried putting them in as just .mp3 or .wav but they dont show up. SO, Im guessing it has to be .ogg

You need to set r/w with a file manager that has root access.

If you mean copy your ringtones to your system file ( so they work even with USB storage connected ), I actually did that recently; here's some things that might help:
1. For some reason, some apps have trouble making the system R/W, so if one doesn't work, try another one. Root Explorer and FX Explorer always seem to work flawlessly for me, but YMMV. Also, like it's been said, make sure you have system mounted as R/W; some apps might make it seem like it's mounted R/W when it's not.
2. MP3s should be fine, and I believe WAV files worked for me too.
3. This one took me a while to figure out; after copying the files, you have to reboot for them to show up when you're selecting tones.
Anyways, hope that helps.
cannot change frikin permissions
i have used both root explorer and FX explorer (and i prefer the latter of the two) but when i try to change the permissions it basically say "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" even though i do have root i am not too sure why i cannot change the permissions of subdirectories? I know in windows you can make the subdirectories inherent the atributes of the parent directory but unfortunately my lack of linux/unix experience is abundantly apparent. Is there away to force the subdirectories to inherent the attributes of the parent directory, or am i just a dumbass barking up the wrong tree.. OH!, and yes just to state the obvious yes i am rooted....

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much more I can help then. Here's a few things though:
I know that you need to download some kind of additional app from the developer to enable root features in FX Explorer, and I think you might have to enable something in the settings.
When I'm using the app, system R/W seems to apply to the entire /system directory, so it affects the parent directories of the sub-directories that I trigger R/W in.
From what I've read, some people have issues with SuperUser functions working, even when they're rooted, so maybe it's your SU that's causing the issues? I'm not sure what the solution is, but I know people have posted various methods that might work in the forums.

Clockworkmod backup folder location?

So I feel like a noob, but here goes. Going into restore from recovery shows to backups I created. I can not find these folders from any explorer. I've checked all /clockworkmod/backup folders under /storage/ and they are all empty. I also tried searching for boot.img and gave up after a few mins, I also searched various responses on the net.. So where else could the backup folders be, i'm running a 4.2.1 rom.
Thanks

Recovery still shows two folders and shows the location as /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ and ES file explorer shows that folder as empty.
So I don't think it is working. I let a search from root finish for 1970-03-02.03.38.38 which is showing in recovery and it found nothing. I'm curious why recovery is showing these folders, does it keep a list of backups in a file somewhere.
Figured it out. Right in ROM manager it states, In Android 4.2 backups are placed in secure directory, inaccessible to other apps.
So anyways..
*edit*
If anybody else happens across this, if you enable root explorer the secure folder where the backups are can be accessed.
In my defense I didn't have rom manager installed...

Im deleting the older, however I noticed something odd and pulled up properties of the file. I have no idea as to why it says the file was created in 1969 or as it says 1970 in the file. Is this some possible issue?

No. When you reset a phone, it doesn't have the correct time. it's like replacing the battery of your bed alarm clock. So when you create a file, it will use this date.

Well that's even more odd. You think that if it didn't know the correct time or date, it would probably reset to 2000. But 1969, 1970? Weren't PCs way back then, so where's this very odd number coming from? A Grand-Father Clock? There was a period that many PCs weren't ready for when the time came. The turn of the century, when 1999 went to 2000, it was a numerical difficulty with Computers. Kind of makes what you are saying difficult to believe shall I say. It's a really odd number to reset to.

Most needed files & folders from 98.30.1

I started this for several reasons.
1) For those who have deleted some system/app(s) & want to manually restore to get ready for the KK ota.
2) /persist dilemma. It is only on our phone yet both recoveries allow you to format it but do not back it up!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48941876&postcount=2061
3) /firmware Also not backed up. Both recoveries format it. But Rsd lite will restore it.
I put some very obscure folders here & they may never be needed! DO NOT GO & restore these just because I attached them! If it ain't broke don't fix it!
Get the full zip here http://batakang.com/ftp/?dir=devs/mhous33/XT907/98.30.1
It is the largest one there!
You can extract even a single system/app with Explorer free & paste it with es file to get OTA ready
But some /partitions are only on the phone. Some are created on boot
1 folder not ANYWHERE BUT ON YOUR PHONE is /persist.
Persist permissions are here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589790
Some wonder why Vzw does not want us rooting?
/Firmware is in the xml/fxz.
/System/app
/Vendor
/Firmware
/System/media.... stock boot animation/Dst animation.
Use Rom Manager fix perms for now. It has never failed me. Set them to all. Then run RM>fix permissions & reboot.
Permissions & ownership need to be set before use.
Rom Manager fix permissions is one good reason to have that app even if it did not WORK on our M, but it does.

So apps from "Data/App" can be deleted and still get the OTA, just don't delete apps from "System/App", is that correct?

1)You don't want to "delete" data apps & no need to root to uninstall them. Settings, apps, downloaded, select.... 2)Also the ones you mention sound like system apps?
I deleted them from the Data/App, so they would not be in my app drawer. And all of my system apps are still there, just looked.
Didn't think about disabling them, I got root happy, been to long without it, lol.
