At the 0:54 minute mark in the video, it says that you're connected at 1xRTT, not 3G. If you install Blazer ROM, it's able to display 3G and 1x in the notification bar.

I also said in the video that it wasn't 3G
This is looking good so far. The way I figured out what needed to be done for Boost and Sprint legacy accounts to get 3G working is to get another phone w/ 3G already working. I happened to have a Galaxy S2 fully working w/ 3G that was already successfully programmed using QPST.
I loaded up DFS and looked at the Programming tab and Data sub tab and compared the S2 and S3 values. I made the necessary changes on the S3 there. I then went to Mobile IP sub tab and compared the S2 and S3 values and made the necessary changes on the S3 there as well. Voila...3G working.

So does someone actually have working talk/text/3G data with a VZW Galaxy S III on the PagePlus $55 plan? I'd be very interested in the information if so.... :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!
The technique I used to flash to Boost or legacy Sprint using DFS... Basically get a working phone with everything working on Pageplus... Ideally, something similar to the Galaxy S3...like the S2 or even the original Galaxy S. Use DFS to read the fields that need to be programmed as outlined in the procedure I created for Boost/Sprint. Once you know all the fields that need to be filled out, connect the Galaxy S3 and fill out those same fields as appropriate.

Using it out of the box the built in app on Verizon you have to pay $20 / month for the service.
GSM version works the same as what Rhyno said above....not sure if OP knew where to look

If you're on the GSM version, just use the built-in version. You can tether USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi Hotspot via settings menu.
If you're on the VZW version, you have to either run a custom ROM that doesn't have Verizon's tracking software on it, or wait for people to figure out what apps need to be tweaked/removed in the stock ROM to make sure you can use 3rd party apps effectively without being "caught" by VZW.
Not up to speed on the gn, I guess. Coming from an aosp rommed thunderbolt.
Could vzw actually charge me 20/ month for something built in without notifying me first? Or just put me on some sort of watch list?

Actually the way it works is a VZW popup comes up when you try to feather and requires that you sign up for a plan before it will connect.
Is everyone else on verizon having this problem? Trying to find the differentiating factors here...
I'm grandfathered in for unlimited data, and have used stock/app tethering on all my Android phones.
The vzw rep at the store couldn't activate my gn in store (using wife's upgrade from separate acct) so I had to activate on the web.
I was never given the message described above, it was just the same old stock tethering menus...
Different software revs possibly? Not sure... I updated to 4.02 yesterday, but I can't remember if I set up wifi tether before that or not.

Just check your account. If you're already paying then it won't pop up... I highly doubt they're letting you slide through. There's some kinda explanation as to why you're not getting the notification of the service.
I'll check my acct and confirm again. I've never used the Verizon hotspot (or at least since my 2 free months after buying the tbolt, anyways). Weird.
---------- Post added at 04:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:26 AM ----------
Checked account, same as it has been since forever. Anyways, if I can help at all, or if anyone needs file info, a backup, etc.. just PM me. Otherwise I'll reply back to this thread if I ever do get any notification or charge on my account.
That is weird. I picked up my Galaxy Nexus yesterday from VZW. According to the salesman at the corporate store I picked it up from, VZW has not yet enabled the built in tethering on their side. He claims they are currently reimbursing customers that have tethering plans and have upgraded to the GN. It sounds as though, if you're paying for tethering it won't work.
He also said there is much confusion within the company's sales staff regarding the GN. At the time I picked up mine, he said they hadn't really received training on the device yet; or for that matter much info at all. So, this could all be wrong.
Just to clarify I was talking about the LTE Verizon Galaxy Nexus with a free tethering plan as an alternative to the one from Verizon for anyone who was wondering

Pretty generic question. Lots of posts on battery life. Some of the mods tend to improve it but like all smart phones its never enough. I cannot speak for LTE speeds but its faster than my BB was on the same network.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Look at the threads for Verizon battery life. I'm sure it'll be similar. The 3G speeds will be slow like the rest of the Sprint network, and the LTE network hasn't been launched yet...
Most everybody has said its a little faster than the epic touch and there are a couple towers that are on.....someone said they were getting 15Mb down and 10 Mb up ... Don't remember where but its going to be really hit and miss what tower may be upgraded and on

LTE isn't that robust. You have to stand IN the intersection for reception
Battery life is about even, we don't have cm9 or AOKP yet (which is what I mainly ran on E4GT), but on stock, they are pretty even.
As far a speeds go, I have no LTE so can't quote speeds on that, but 3G is slightly better on my gNex. The highest I ever pulled on E4GT was 2.17 mbps down, I pulled this last night on my gNex.

That's a pretty old baseband, isn't it? Have you given the newer UGLC1 or XXLA2 radios? You really should be using a radio meant for 4.0.4, like one of those two. You can find them at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345

Yeah, it sounds like it may be a problem with how the carrier has your line provisioned. Go talk to them and see if they can fix it.
Would buying a prepaid phone package (one with a "dumb" phone) cause any problems?
Are there different SIM cards for "dumb" phones and smart phones?

No it wouldn't but like coolsplice said, your account is possibly provisioned incorrectly for "3G/4G(H)." I would go speak with them and see if they can revise your account to reflect its proper information.
It definitely is weird when voice/texts work but your phone is unable to get 4G/3G data. Have previous phones had this problem at all?

I wouldn't be so sure. My old Gnex had an antenna hardware issue after a week of use. Try to go to an att store and try their sim. I had bars but absolutely no real usable service on both networks. Goodluck.

I had ATT before t-mobile, on my family's plan. Had the phone for about a week on there and had no problems at all. Right when I switched no more data.

Does it say it when you pull down the notification bar?
If you search for networks does T-Mobile show?
I know this may seem stupid but I tried every radio I could and I couldn't get data coz I was roaming on at&t from T-Mobile.
Put an at&t sim in and data worked straight away.
If all that checks out and you do have T-Mobile signal then it will have to be a call to CS.
I've never in m whole life used a gsm phone. I have the unlocked nexus and got myself tmobile service. It was the best coverage for the cost. But it seems my data speeds are sh*tty. Everything is super slow. Do I have to configure my phone for proper use with tmo? Everything seems to be OK except data. I've checked coverage I'm all green everywhere, doesn't make sense. have you tested the speed in another location? example if that test was done at home, do one at work/school and compare
if it is just as slow you can try flashing a different radio..
i have generally been getting about 3-10 mbps depending on where i am/time of test...faster speeds as it gets later (network traffic slows down quite a bit at night around 10pm-midnight)
Somethings not right there. Did you just activate the service? Sometimes it can take a couple days for everything to get squared away on T-Mobile's end.
Also, have you double checked your APN settings to make sure everything is in order?
I'd also try some reboots and airplane cycles to make sure its connecting. Although it looks like you've got full HSPA+ connectivity. It could also just be a fluke with the tower you're on or the speedtest server you're testing on.

I'm not bootloader unlocked or even rooted for that matter. When I do I will play around with radios. I even tried googling a way to force 3g instead of HSPA+ to make sure it wasn't the tower. No luck yet. I did a speed test at my home and it was the same. The speed test I posted was at work.

APNs seem right from what I can remember.
I think you either have a SIM problem, a tower problem, or data hasn't been activated properly on your account. I'd give it another full day (T-Mo can be slow to activate fully), and if its not working, call and tell them your phone's data speed is extremely slow. They can try to reset it on their end (or send new SIM) or check for a tower issue.
Did you get the 200MB plan and use it all up? Because they throttle you when you use it all up. Them look like throttled speeds to me.
Or maybe, they are throttling you by mistake...
Also, have you restarted your phone?
Power it off for a bit. Pull the battery... then start it back up. I've seen that fix MANY things, and it's easy.

So its been about three days and its still the same. I flashes a few different radio firmwares and I found one that will give me anywhere from .1 to .3Mbps down. I have opened a ticked with T-Mobile thinking it may be the tower(s) in my town. Haven't heard back yet but I want to keep this updated. If it doesn't work out I will probably end up going with an at&t mnvo

The same things is with my phone. Three days since activation and data speeds are 1x slow. It's time to play with radios
I've tried more radios than I can count. So I ordered an st att sim and got it activated today. There is a huuuge difference from .05 tmo to 3.5 att st so I guess even if coverage is good and they say its fine there are some places where the actual back haul of the network is seriously lacking. If it still doesn't work for you go ahead and try a different provider. Made a world of difference for me.

Hello, I bought a used phone from eBay, like the ones on this section, but I want to root it, I'm not sure what would brick this phone, my problem is that when I boot it up, it says it's a US Cellular SCH-R760, same thing with the "about phone" section of the settings.
But, the battery cover says it's a Sprint phone, and taking off the battery reveals a sticker with the model being SPH-D710.
Did somebody root it? I tried using root checker and it said "Negative"
If I were to root it, what phone would I take the files from?
Thank you, and sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Wow... That's a new one. I would try Framaroot so you don't flash the wrong files. Sounds like you got a refurbished phone of some sort, or somebody took the motherboard from the US Cellular and slapped it into a Sprint body. I personally world trust Settings/About Phone over the sticker tho. Which means you'll have to run a converter. Is your phone activated? Do you have a carrier?

Yes, I'm using Page Plus, everything works, I just get about 2/3gish speeds.
Did you flash it to Page Plus or was it already flashed?

I took it to a store, and some guy I think flashed it for me.
Can you take a screenshot of your Settings/About Phone?

Ok, give me a minute.
Here you go.
You have a us cellular sch-r760. Whoever tou got it from took the motherboard from the uscellular and put it in the sprint version body. I am not sure if flashing files here would hurt the phone. I do know there is a different website for your phone though. Team us cellular has roms and whatnot for your phone. Unsure of the exact web address sorry. Google will help though. Goodluck

And it's still on GB...eek, yeah I don't think anybody but a couple people can help you out. @diceman1000 and @ps3hacker3 might be able to help if I remember right.
The SCH-R760 is the same as the E4GT less the 4G. Thou should be able to glass any E4GT ROMs, AOSP, NOT STOCK? And they should work. You'll have to use Handcent or GoSMS and manually put in your PP APNs in order for MMS to work though.

Check out Buckleberry on the team us cellular site. Master of inversions. Only inverted Skydrive I ever found. Makes good roms, too. You have some good devs over there. You should have no problem finding what you need.
Some links for you...

Wow how did i not see this sorry guys but yes the E4GT and the uscc verion of the SCH-R760 are the exact same phone without 3g and its kind of weird cause i have recently taken mine apart to look at the motherboard lol and noticed that the motherboard has stickers for the SCH-R760 but there is one portion of the phone up in the top right side of the motherboard that has a sticker for the SPH-D710 which is the sprint variant lol (my phone is brand new as well when i got it no one else has had mine to switch counterparts it came like that weirdest ive seen lol) and like he said before both phones can run both sets of roms feel free to flash anything in store for the sph-d710 onto our uscc version in the exception of completely stock odin files of course
