I recently flashed the Blazer rom on my s3 and it worked fine (recent, as in july). So I checked back and there was the LG8 rom. I downloaded that and installed it. made a nandroid backup and wiped my data. well my backup didn't work, and when I flashed the LG8 rom, it runs through the boot logo (which is the sprint one now, says 4G LTE) and then proceeds to boot like normal. It gets to the screen "Android is Upgrading" It flies through all the applications and then freezes right after it optimizes the applications. Once it freezes, in about 4 seconds it goes back to the same screen, "Android is Upgrading" and runs through the applications again. It keeps doing this until I turn it off. I never get to the lock screen.
Right now I'm downloading the stock Sprint rom and I'm going to flash the phone back to stock. But it's going to take 20 minutes to download the stock file. Is there any way I can fix this right now so I don't have to flash the stock rom and then flash blazer again? I'd like to have my phone for my morning run in 30 minutes.

No I did not. I'm flashing the stock rom now and I'll use that for today until I return home, then I'll work on putting blazer back on it.
Thanks for your help.

My power button seems to be stuck. I'll push it and instead of powering off the screen, it acts like a long press and goes to the power off menu. I've noticed it with any of the roms I'm using too. Any ideas?

It's also not working when the screen is in sleep mode. Takes like seven presses for the unlock screen to show

Your power button is bad need to take it to sprint. Hardware issue fixed 0004 and 0003
I was afraid of that. So when the screen is sleeping it works fine now. Trying to get an awake screen to sleep is nigh impossible. Am I just SOL and have to unroot and take it into a service center?

Pretty much just don't try to fix it your self other wise you will void your warranty. I never had that issue just a squeaky button on the past. I have a brand new evo right now tho no problems.
What are your radios and prl? Did you mess with the latest leaked radios ? If not then it is a power button issue not hard to unroot.

I'm testing out MIUI and checking how to update my PRL. But that's the current stuff. Thanks for your help by the way. Just did some research and I'll have to flash back to a sense based rom to update it which won't be hard at all to test that

I have used miui before cool rom. Looks like your using old prl. Update that. See if that fixes it what recovery are u using. Try amon 2.3
Amon is sweet for me I never have issues using it. Wipes everything correctly .
Using clockwork right now. I'll update the prl and get amon. I'll keep you posted on the result. In Ryder's eternal prophecy thread I found a zip that I keep on my sd that deletes everything so I run that too along with clockworks.

If all still fails I would try the latest Sprint lovers rom it updates everything for you radios and such. If still a no go then your button is messed up.

No need for it amon does it for you when you click on wipe scroll down on each part you wanna wipe and it will do it. No need for a script.
So I'm in clockwork (yes yes, I know, I'm about to switch over in three seconds if that's what it takes) and when I try to install the radio file from my sd it's giving me an installation aborted message.
"Amend scripting is no longer supported. Please switch to Edify scripting to create working update zip packages."
I have no idea what that means...
Update, until I find the time to take my phone in, I downloaded "No lock" which lets me turn the screen on from sleep mode with my volume buttons, then I downloaded "Screen off and Lock" which puts a command in my notification menu that if I click on it, it will make the phone sleep
K all you need is amon 2.3 rename it PC36IMG.ZIP boot into bootloader and it will install . To update prl just need a sense rom. Hope you get it fixed
Ok so I've unrooted and taking my phone in tomorrow. Should I wipe my SD too? I have my clockwork folder with backed up roms and other things that point to me having rooted.

I was looking for a spare micro SD around my place but I couldn't find one in time. Tech has my phone right now I'm about to go check on it in about an hour. Thanks for the heads up for next time though.
Follow up:
Either I deleted all signs or they didn't care. Either way they had to order another Evo and it will be here in a couple days. Thanks again for all the replies and can't wait to get my other Evo so I can root again. This standard look is for the birds.
Our GS2 and the Amaze 4g are getting an update Nov 13 that will add WiFi Calling. I was wondering if we would lose the existing root and will have to re-root, or what precautions to take? Any tips?
I believe if you're rooted and have deleted some bloat.. you will not receive the ota.. may have to wait for the release and pull the apk so we can get wifi calling goodness..

Ah Crud, The only thing I have uninstaleld with Titanium Backup (I do not have pro so had to uninstall instead of freeze, but I did back it up) was the Tethering Manager so my tethering would work since they pulled some shenaningans on tethering and went ninja on customers tryingto charge them now. Would I hve to restore that then do OTA then uninstall again?
Back to the original question, would my root remain intact so I can go ahead and uninstall right after the OTA? Or would I have to re-Root?
If you made a Nandroid backup before you flashed SU...why don't you just restore that?
I did make a nandroid, does restoring that restore apps and app data to that point? Basically would I lose any apps I have installed since nandroid and its data?

Yes and yes. You will lose any data/apps you have installed/made after the nandroid backup. My suggestion is to do this before the update.
after removing "tethering manager" can one use simultaneous data on device and phone?
@manolodf after removing tethering manager can you use wifi tether and data on the actual phone simultaneously? While using a MyTouch 4g i was able to accomplish that feat but note i can't replicate on the galaxy s2, i already pay the 14.99/mo but will root and remove that tethering manager if it could enable me to use data on both the wifi tethered device and my phone simultaneously.
@ggfb20 I also came from the MT4G and yes I remember that ability, I do think after removing tethering manager that it is possible, though I cannot tell you with 100% accuracy, but what I can tell you that I did notice since is that the prompt warning you about not being able to use it simultaneously is now gone.
-- I just enabled hotspot and then opened web browser and it worked, so I would be very likely to say that it does work, I just did not have any device actually connected to the hotspot at the same time.
If your rooted you wont be able to take the ota anyway. You have to have the stock recovery to flash or it just errors. Someone will have a rooted rom posted the day of the ota so I wouldn't worry about it.

Tether manager has nothing to do with the ota. To state it clearly root = no ota. But do not worry. Do not run and unrooted your phone. Do not panic. What ever the update does some one will post it so rooted users can get it. It was the same for the Vibrant.
can i still update if i rooted my phone and i froze the bloatwares? or do i need to un-freeze them?
If you do not have the stock recovery you can't update via ota. You will have to either flash the stock recovery or wait til someone roots it and posts it.

Root does nothing to stop OTA updates. You will probably lose root if you run the update, but root does not stop it.
You might get the notification and download but without stock recovery it will not flash.

This morning I received a software update message from AT&T, when I tried to update it, i got this error. My phone is rooted and installed CWM.
Is that the reason why it won't let me install the update? Do I have to unroot the phone back to factory setting ?
Once I download the update and hit install, the phone will restart and goto CWM screen (screen shot). Can someone tell me how to fix that and do the upate ?

I haven't looked into it myself so i'm not 100% but from what i've read this update is just to comply with apple winning an injunction against android's universal search in a patent lawsuit. So instead of being able to simultaneously search the web, your contacts and your apps. you'll only be able to search the web from the google search bar. I would just avoid installing it at all personally and go with custom roms where the chef can cook in the old universal search.

Foolishly Accepted OTA=BRICK
I should have known better than to accept the OTA with the phone rooted! It now only shows the SAMSUNG logo and "Boot Recovery" up at the top briefly before turning off again. After work I'll be attempting to fix it... Any guidance on how would be greatly appreciated. My girlfriend is probably calling and texting about the house being on fire or something and I have no idea lol.

Flash to stock, rinse, repeat.
Then once you root again, install Titanium Backup and freeze the software update app. That will put it to sleep for good without uninstalling it entirely.

I didn't see 'software update app' either - but there is a 'FWUpgrade 1.2.0' that has the same icon as the notification about the OTA update so I'm assuming it's that one - I froze it and rebooted, and nope - the reminder notification is still there.
So...
Searching on the backup/restore tab shows 'AT&T Software update V3_1205_2_2' - and that icon matches the color of the notification, so I'm assuming it's that one and now the notification is gone.
Not sure if I need to unfreeze that 'FWUpgrade' app, but I wouldn't think so. I picture my life with the stock rom to be more of a one night stand rather than a meaningful relationship...
This thread might be useful if you want to apply the OTA from CWM without losing root and without getting the Google Search "upgrade": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768826
'AT&T Software update V3_1205_2_2'
^ that's the app you wanna freeze.
Hope this helps.

I'm stuck with the dwonload mode showing. No combination of button strokes or battery removals seems to change the screen. The PC cant see the phone anymore. The only thing I can think of to do is let the battery discharge or put another battery in. I could write to the external sd card for whatever help that could offer. I don't know where the internal sd card is, do you? Why there is an sd card and an external sd card? My PC sees the so-called sd card as "phone." I'm feeling totally discouraged and disenchanted.

If you have download mode, then you are only soft bricked. You will need to download one of these oneclicks to make things as simple as possible: http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/ODIN-ONE-CLICKS/LJ7_Jellybean
Attach phone to computer usb, make sure your still in download mode and make sure it says COM (some number). Go take a 10 minute break or so and it will be working again. THANKS TO billard412 for uploading those files
I flashed 4.4.4 and i cant get the voicemail button on the dialer to work. Everytime i press it it shows a menu to add the voicemail number then i go into the settings and its disabled.
I am enclosing screenshots to better describe the problem. I cant post links because of post count. So please copy and paste into your browser to view the images.

I can't see the images.
You didn't say how or which 4.4.4 you flashed.
Was it the stock firmware, or a custom ROM? How did you flash: OTA, TWRP, CWM or ODIN?
What were you running before?
Did you do a wipe before you flashed?
Have you tried flashing the full stock firmware twice, without rebooting which is recommended with 4.4.4

Also I add another screenshot which shows my software versions

I did a full wipe. Actually not sure, i used CWM and used the option on the menu to do a "clean wipe for a new rom".
I flashed stock 4.4.4 firmware using ODIN.
Then i odin CF auto root, then i odin CWN.
No, i havent flashed twice without rebooting. how do i accomplish that? everytime i flash it reboots. Also how can i perform a full wipe?

I've attached what my Call Settings says, not the same as yours, and I'm running stock 4.4.4. Mine say "Voice Mail", yours says "My Carrier"

My Phone Info shows the same info as yours.
If you did a Wipe for ROM from CWM that should do it.
As to how to flash twice:
Flash the first time, make sure that the ODIN check box for reboot is off. When flash is complete, remove the battery by pulling it, don't press any buttons. Then, wait minute or two, and replace the battery. Go directly to Download Mode and flash a 2nd time. Then, you can let the phone boot into the system.
At that point, before you flash anything else - try the Voicemail.
One, more thing where did you download your 4.4.4 firmware? These are the two that should work:

Does Visual Voicemail work?
Could it be your SIM? How old/new is your SIM.
Another thought is that since you are on a stock ROM, the T-Mobile store may be able to help or calling 611. You could tell them you took the OTA update, and this is what happened.

I would guess that non-TMO carrier has more to do with it than the version. You didn't say which other company's network you were using, but you may want to ask on this thread about the issue:

Wait a minute..... Um that's your problem most likely. Regardless what carrier you're on you need to flash the firmware for your model. What model or what carrier is your phone originally from.
