Change order of phone numbers per contact? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is there a way to change the order in which contacts are listed? For example, I have Work, Mobile, and Home for some people. I'd like it so that Mobile was listed first since that is the most often called number.
I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried setting default numbers as well as changing the order on my Google account, adding then deleting, changing names of numbers back and forth, etc. It doesn't seem like it's alphabetical either because for one contact it goes A..., Mobile, S...; and for another contact it goes Work, Mobile.
Is there anyway to fix this? It may seem minor, but it's annoying to have to it listed in the order of Rare Work Location 1, Mobile, Rare Work Location 2.

It displays them properly, but only in contact app, I just tried to long press set as default and that number jumps in the first position.
But when you are in phone app, I think number that you dialed the most comes up as first etc, not sure thou

As a workaround, have you tried putting the number you want to come up first in the "main" number field of your Gmail contact list?

setting one as default always have worked for me? When I call that person any way that is the number dialed.

Nope, no luck with the "Main" thing or setting as default within the People app, even though set as default does swap the listed order within the People app. I am now almost positive that the phone app is organizing them based on the phone numbers themselves, which makes no sense.

HTC Touch Pro 2 known bugs

Here are 4 HTC touch pro 2 bugs that I am aware of.
The first one, HTC is aware of and working on a fix(for the last 4 months)
1. Announce incoming calls does not work. (settings, all settings, voice command, phone, options)
2. If you send one text to 2 people, the sent text only shows up in one of the 2 person's thread in the touch flo 3d.(it still shows up in both people thread's in windows mobile thread, go to text messages, all messages, select thread)
3. The phone wakes up to show new text messages, leaving it open to make unwanted calls(if its in your purse or pocket)
4. When adding a new contact phone number doesn't always automatically add parenthesis, spaces, and dashes so a number in your contacts list will look like 3236155555 instead of instead of (323) 615-5555. If you add the number from your call history the parenthesis, dashes, spaces will be added correctly.
anyone know of any edits or hacks to fix any of these(and that are confirmed to work on the touch pro 2)
I don't know about the first 2 but for the third one, it doesn't happen to me. I changed the settings in such a way that the phone doesn't show a message so it doesn't wake up (Look up the seetings in the sound section), and even if it does i use the auto lock which means its gonna be locked and in 1 minute the screen goes off so its OK.
It might be an idea to mention which version of the touch pro 2 you have, and which ROM you're using.

Im using original touchflo3d rom that came with the phone on Sprint.
ROM:1.21.651.3
I tried the fix mentioned above about Not displaying new messages on the screen, but my phone still wakes up, now it just doesn't display the message.
I do not have my phone locked.
Of courise if the phone is locked it will not place calls, show new texts, or open programs without the unlock code. But typing a 4 digit code before calling someone, checking the time, or seeing a text is annoying. They dont allow 1 digit lock codes, or even 4 0's, or numbers in sequence.
I'm sure the lock would be useful for many people, but for me it's too much.
Can I also add a 4rth bug.
when adding numbers to your contacts the phone doesn't always automatically add parenthesis, spaces, and dashes.
So a number in your contacts list will look like
3236155555
instead of
(323) 615-5555
not a big deal(you can add the parenthesis and dashes and spaces manually) but still annoying.
if you add the number from your history it will do it right, but if you create a new contact and enter the number it will show it as a series of numbers with no spaces, parenthesis, or dashes.

[Q] Caller ID mapping

I have my new HTC Trophy set up to sync with Exchange/Outlook. I'm in Norway, so my contacts phone numbers are stored in Outlook in this format: +47 12345678
Now, when in Norway and getting incoming calls from 12345678, the phone does not recognize the caller.
Is this a known issue? Any workarounds other than removing +47 from all my contacts?
I'm having the same issue!
Anyone know how to setup WP7 to recognize not only the full number?
Nothing new here?
i noticed that in the windows live contacts section you can specify which country the contact is in,..would that help?
i don't know..i'm not having these problems to be honest!
In outlook you store the phone number with +47 but when you dial the number, you want to dial it without the +47
Is that correct?
I have had similar issues with other phones with extra "0" in between region/country/city codes, for example in Germany.
I have a couple of ideas:
1. There is the International Dialing assist function. I have no idea what it does other than what's described undertneat it... Does that do anything helpful?
2. What if you create a separate Windows Live account, and add in /copy your contacts, without the +47; then link the two contacts. The contacts will appear as just 1 contact in your phone, and you'll have the option to call with or without the +47
So here is the deal:
I have set all my contacts mobile numbers using the right local area code (for example 04111-8181-8181) so when I’m traveling to other city the call is routed correctly. But when someone call me I receive the number without the area code (example 8181-8181) and the phone did not match this with the contact.
So the problem is not when I'm dialing the number but when I receive an incoming call from my contacts.
I don't know what this International Assist do too but is turned On.
And hboos, I didn't find where I do set up this Country in Live Contacts but I don't think that this is the problem since all of my most important contacts are coming from Outlook.
Thanks
I store all my contacts like this one: +49123456 without any spaces. My HD7 recognizes them all. Perhaps you have to remove the space?
Well, if removing the spaces/formatting doesn't work, you can always go with my other suggestion. Create a separate address book in a Windows Live account with the incoming CID number, and link the two contacts on WP7 (open contact 1, click the chain link at the bottom, click contact 2). WP7 is even smart enough to suggest you likely links.
Talys, this suggestion lead me to another question: Is there one button to link all my contacts or I need to go one by one (because I have 1200+ contacts).
I'll try to remove the spaces.
Just an update, didn't work removing all the spaces
I've got the same problem. Living in Norway, syncing with Exchange/Outlook and storing all my phone numbers with a +47 prefix. I'm sure creating a windows live contact for each of my Exchange/Outlook contact and link them would work. But with 800+ contacts, the thought of maintaining two lists doesn't sound like a feasible solution for me.
I've tried the following.
Using a 0047 prefix instead of the +47. Same problem.
Removing any spaces that Outlook add automatically. Same problem
Using a windows live contacts instead of Outlook/Exchange contacts. Same problem.
The best solution I've come up with so far, is to store all my Outlook/Exchange contacts with two numbers. One without the prefix and one with. This isn't really working either I like to store mobile number where they belong.
However, everything seams to work as expected with SMS/MMS messages. The +47 prefix doesn’t cause any problems what so ever.
Now with some developers already getting access to WP7 registry I think it's a matter of time to find the entry to edit

I don't think there's a button to automatically link your contacts.... that's a lot of contacts to link! But you only need to link the ones that are important for Call Display, right? So the list would be smaller?
i always have the same problem on wm6 and had was to edit the registry caller ID match the default is 8 so if you change it to 6 or 7 then it will be ok..so its just to get access to the wp7 registy to change that setting

Sorry to bring that again but that's THE POINT!! We need to hack the registry to edit this.
Anyone have done this?

no....there is no access YET to the registry or file system
try this reg key
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone]
"CallIDMatch"=dword:7
Have you tried Settings -> Applications -> phone and International assist - On?

I don't think this is the problem, or if it is, the default value is higher than 8 as all phonenumbers in Norway has 8 digits. 11 if you also count the +47.
In any case, works fine for me using Telia in Sweden - I have numbers stored in a variety of ways including +46 (0123) 12345 as well as +4612312345 and they all seem to show who's calling. Could be it's operator dependant somehow?
I have the same problem, my contacts are synced from Google. Country Slovenia, format +386 31xxxxxx. Number does not link to name of the contact. Tried Caller ID fix from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907971, but problem remains. Can someone try and see if it works for him?

[Q] Gmail Contacts - Missing Phone Numbers (only mobile & work numbers sync to phone)

[Q] Gmail Contacts - Missing Phone Numbers (only mobile & work numbers sync to phone)
Hello all,
Just got my first wp7 (samsung focus) a few days ago and there are some glaring issues that need to be worked on through MS updates, but there is one in particular that is bugging me.
Gmail Contacts: The issue I'm having is they sync, but only certain phone numbers. For instance, my girlfriend has 4 numbers. A mobile, two work numbers, and a google voice number. My phone will only sync her mobile & main work number so I do not have access to either her google voice number (which I really need) and her secondary work line.
Is there something I'm missing? Or is this just one of the things they will be addressing at some point down the line? Hopefully there is something I am missing as I need to at the very least have access to everybody's contact information.
Thanks in advance
Well, for now,I just made a second contact for her with her google voice # as her mobile. I know the OS is new, but I hope they get the contact issues worked out sooner rather than later as the main function of my phone is still contact with humans (for now).
well afaik thats just because exchange does not support the other number fields

Will it work if change the gmail sever to the IMAP address?
I had this problem also.
I'm afraid to say that I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a solution for this.
I fixed it by changing phone number types to known once, e.g mobile, work, home (other is not supported).
IMAP = email only, no contacts, calendar, or anything else.
That's a weird one, I haven't run into this problem yet. I just looked at 3 people who I know I have a pager (really their Skype Numbers), work number, home number, cell number and Work 2/company and all showed up just fine on my DVP. hmm...

[Q] CallID Match Problem

Hi everyone,
i am having a problem with my wildfire s and guessing if you guys could help me out.
Let me explain. Lets say i have a contact jack with number +23091948347 in my contacts. when jack calls me, 9194837 appears but not the contact name. But when Jack sends me an SMS, the contact name appears.
Now the contrary also causes the problem. if i correct jack's number to 9194837 in my contacts, when he calls, the contact name appears. But when the sends me and SMS, +2309194837 appears.
I already tried deleting, resetting the phone but the problem persists. In Mauritius, all HTC Android 2.2 - 2.3 users i know have the same problem (other phone makes work fine). No luck from HTC support either
Severals other forums say that this is due to the fact that as from android 2.2, HTC android matches exact CIDs only for contact name resolution.
For the time being i have to enter both +2309194837 and 9194837 for the same contact for it to work correctly.
I have tried a soft called prefixer which allows to add the +230 on incoming calls. It then correctly gives the contact name but no contact picture appears.and also in the call log the number still appears as <unknown>.
Am new to android and already getting discouraged...hope can learn from you guys.
Cheers
Contact your carrier; they are incorrectly routing calls/messages through to you without area/country codes.
Thanks for your replay.. That is indeed the case but other phones are working correctly. xperias, nexus 1s and others...
So other phones show the same number regardless of wether you're receiving a text message or voice call?
Other phones receive messages and calls in the same format i do. i.e 9194897 for calls and +2309194837 for messages.
Yet the other phones resolve the contact name correctly.
I read that it is due to the fact that the phone is match the entire CID to contacts and not part. There is an app in windows mobile which allows you to change the Call ID match trailing digits (which in this case should be 7).
Looked for such an app for android but no luck.
Samsung also have been getting the same problem i hear.
Any ideas guys?
i found this while googling about the problem

Hey guys
Had been looking for a long time for a solution for this and found one today (thanks to squabbie for helping)
Summary:
You need a rooted phone, ex file explorer (or ROM toolbox) to edit the build.prop settings. Check for a setting called "ro.phone.min_match_*" ( the * being a wildcard). Then edit the name of the setting to "ro.phone.min_match" only and set its value yo 6 or 7 or whichever value you need. If this label isn't in the build.prop settings then just add it in.

This is a three year old thread. Was it really necessary to wake it up?
No not really the reason I woke it up was because I've seen so many threads with the same issue not solved that I had to make sure everyone was notified of the fix!

[Q] Dialing By Name Problems (Update: Google Sync Problem)

Hi all, just a strange issue I am having I hope you can help me. I noticed when dialing by name when new, this phone kept wanting to bring up the home number when I want to dial the mobile by default. So, I headed into the contacts and discovered I could set the "default" number by either long pressing the desired number and selecting "set default" which then puts a blue check mark next to it, or I could be in the contact, press menu, then "mark as default" which opens a window where I can select the default email, phone number, etc which also will put a blue check next to the number.
Now then, all my contacts are stored on Google, nothing on the phone or SIM itself. For some reason, the default number for one of the most frequently called people in my address book will not "stick". I mark it as default, I can dial by name and it shows up correctly, but then the next time I go to do it (sometimes even 5 minutes later), it will be back to having no default number set and gives me the home number instead of mobile.
Oddly enough, the three other numbers I marked with a default number never do this to me and work every time, only the one contact entry doesn't work. I can't think of any other reasons why this is happening. My ONLY thought was that for some reason when syncing, Google keeps over-riding the marked default number. But why would it do it for JUST this one contact and not the other 3?!
Any ideas? Looking forward to thoughts. Kind of an embarrassing problem since it's so simple, but I can't figure it out...
www.google.com/contacts
Do you have more specific of a suggestion than simply giving me the site which I have already been to a couple times? The Google contacts interface doesn't seem to support "default numbers" and there is no way I could find to set a default number via the web interface. I believe the default number is an "on phone" setting. Thus, I am confused why it works on some contacts and not all.
Update: I noticed this same contact also won't upload changes to phone numbers, addresses, etc made on the phone for some reason, so this could be more of a Google sync problem. Again, it's only this one contact.
If I make changes to other contacts, they are reflected on Google's servers correctly. If I make a change to the phone number of this specific contact, after a few minutes, it goes back to what it previously was. It seems it's always pulling down from Google's servers and replacing the changes I made on my phone. It's like somehow only this contact was set to only pull down information, not upload it also. I also could not find any settings for changing the location of the "master" when there are changes or conflicts or anything like that on Google's website.
Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Bump to the top, still have this issue.
Not much help here, as I'd love to know how to do this at a higher 'Google' level than just on my phone too. Are you syncing contacts with any other applications? For example, Facebook?
No, it's a stock Galaxy S4. Although you bring up another question I have had. When I have my contacts on Facebook synced "only with existing contacts", friends on Facebook still show up when I try to dial by name even though they do NOT show up in my address book. What's up with that? Is that the fault of Facebook? I seem to remember my HTC phone doing this as well, so I disabled syncing with Facebook contacts completely.
Today I tried removing the Google account, clearing the data and cache for contacts and contact storage, then adding the Google account again and letting contacts sync. I then set default numbers for 5 phone numbers. 10 minutes later, all but the one contact I have had problems with still had the default number set. The one contact cleared the default number - again. I just don't get it...

I have the same issue and it ticks me off every time, and it happens with any contact that has multiple numbers. There doesn't seem to be any way to choose the alternate numbers when you do search by name from the dialpad. you have to do it from the favorites or the contacts tab instead.
Does yours clear the default from EVERY contact that has multiple numbers? Mine only clears the set default number from ONE SPECIFIC contact, and I can't figure out what the difference between that contact and any other contact is. Or, if you are saying you can't figure out how to set the default numbers at all, I gave instructions on how to do it two different ways in the post you quoted.
As for selecting an alternate number from the dial pad, I figured that out too. So, let's say you want to call Mike. Dial 6453 (MIKE) and you should see the name pop up. To the right of the name is a down arrow with a number above it. The number is telling you how many contacts what you have dialed matches. Tap the down arrow and you will see a list of people and their numbers under them (or just the one person if that's all that matches). If you tap again on the name, you will in fact be given a choice on which number to dial (assuming the contact has more than one number saved for them).
So basically, it's a long annoying process that shouldn't have to happen, but it is possible to do it. You have to start dialing by name, then make a screen selection, then another selection, then another, then finally the dial pad is pre-filled with the number, but then you have to remember to hit the actual call button at the end of all that crap. I find it's easier to find a text from the person and swipe the screen to dial them that way sometimes (or from within the text tap the call icon), or from the call history tap the call icon. Or of course as you said, favorites or contacts.
My HTC used to just let you dial by name, tap the number you wanted, then it would start calling. Easy peasy.
Bump to the top again... Still trying to figure this out. So annoying.
Bump. I dial this number every day...
Some stupid questions: 1. Do you have more than one contact details of the same person? 2. Did you delete and re-add the contact. Also delete from all other syncs?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
The contact is only listed as a Google contact, and has no other links or connections from other sources. Facebook is not synced, nor is anything else. It's only Google contacts. I haven't tried deleting and re adding yet. I guess that's a simple thing to try, its just that there is a lot of info in there, haha.
Ok, via web browser on the PC I exported the contact, deleted it, and synced my phone. Contact was gone. I then added a contact via web browser, typed in all the same info, synced the phone, and the contact is back. I then selected the mobile number, marked it as default, synced the contacts again, and there was no longer a default check mark next to the mobile number.
I have at least 3 other contacts where I don't have this problem at all. They are all stored on Google, they are all friends on Facebook (even though they aren't linked to FB in the contacts because of the above listed problem where everyone on FB shows up when dialing by name), they are all in circles on Google Plus. I can't figure this out at all. What the heck...
