adobe pulling flash - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

to quote an engadget article:
Adobe has been broadcasting as much as possible that Flash on Android is going away, although it's been offering a grace period for those addicted to the plugin. It's now time to wean yourself off. As Adobe warned earlier in the year, new installations from Google Play won't be an option from August 15th onwards. Any downloads after that point will be limited to updates for existing installations or to those willing to raid Adobe's archives -- assuming would-be users aren't already running Android 4.1, that is. While we'd still expect Flash to preserve some of its relevance in mobile as long as phones ship with it preinstalled, and alternatives like Skyfire persist, we'd strongly suggest getting comfortable with HTML5 and native apps from now on.

i dont have a problem with this, as i haven't used to flash plugin on phone sense CM7. every site i go is in HTML5 or is upgrading to it! i dont go to a single site that doesnt have a flashless option for desktop and mobile users.what do you guys think?

I wouldn't have a problem if most sites stopped using flash, but alas for some reason they keep using it.

Just sideload the APK.

Microsoft has abandoned open market phones (rant)

I generally don't care so much about not being able to:
1. transfer sms and contacts TO sim
2. sync doc, txt, and pdf files, offline, through Zune
3. sync flac or divx files
4. make an offline backup of contacts or of the whole phone configuration
5. create new accent colors
6. toggle wifi/gps/3g data/bluetooth with a single tap from the home screen
7. dictate sms or other speech orders in my native language
etc...
All of the above limitations (and some more) can be tolerable at some degree because of WP7 general superiority in other levels.
BUT...
I'm really pissed off with Microsoft...They have totally abandoned open market phones...First, we had a major error with Mango for LG update, that forced some people to flash a new official rom in order to get it. I never got a tethering update for my open LG and now I don't even get the latest official 7740 update. I don't f$%^ care about carriers. I bought an officially OPEN device and I demand support, or else they can stop selling us illusions...

Blame your OEM, not Microsoft for not getting tethering. They are the ones delivering the proper drivers needed for tethering to be enabled. The feature is already built in in Mango. Concerning 7740 you're right. But it has been released when? Yesterday? No update so far has reached all users at the same time. It has always taken a few weeks until every single Windows Phone user out there received an update. Knowing that 7740 won't change much, I personally do not really care about when I will receive it.
So far I didn´t get the latest 7740 update either, but I installed it manually with cab sender.

It doesn't fix the keyboard disappearing issue, so it's pretty much useless. This is by far the biggest annoyance for me right now. Keyboard disappears 10+ times when i'm typing a SMS. And in some apps you can't bring back the keyboard by touching the input box. I have to copy/paste and try again.

You are right here, but this wouldn't have happened if Microsoft had put strict rules around its ecosystem. It's unacceptable for such a unified quality concept to have basic specs like tethering, managed almost randomly (at will) by the OEMs without Microsoft's supervision. LG has released the firmware for branded phones (so, there is no arguing here that they couldn't have released it because of hardware restrictions) and totally rejected all of those people who have open phones. WHO controls this type of marketing anarchy around one of the most innovative, popular products of the world?
I'm shocked by this management attitude, because I'm a Microsoft customer for over 18 years and I know very well that they are aces in product support. As I mentioned earlier, ιn my first post, this is not the only fault Ι've been through and I'm looking forward to see this company measuring its actions with responsibility and care but, right now I'm totally disappointed.

I have made one in the specific LG e900 forum as well, because I use an open LG device, so, the discussion exists in two places to be seen by people who have as well as those who don't have an LG device, but they do have an open device with similar problems.

That would be post number three then... Sometimes i dont understand why there is all this hate on this board. Isnt this supposed to be where people come together to innovate and find new ways to use their devices? Not to complain about what they have without contributing anything...
I was referring to this thread, about 10 down from this one...but carry on, I thought it was groundhog's day.

No flash + no UMS => no go

As I read the forum, I discover that :
- flash is not supported (but probably will be)
- UMS is not supported
I'm very disappointed and plan to buy later and/or another device.
The lack of UMS prevent me from using a smart sync software like Syncback SE. And the google search "mtp sync software" does not give much results.
Thanks for your comments.
Thank you for making another thread instead of using the other 10 threads discussing the same complaints.

Well the Gnex is the last android phone to get Flash so whats the point in you buying a future new phone? They wont be support, this one will be so it solves part of it for you.
Can someone explain this ums problem in simple terms please ? I transferred files from pc to gn quite happily yesterday via usb .....
MTP is seen in Windows Explorer because Windows Explorer has an extension to process this protocol and show the device "as is" if it was UMS. But in fact, it's not. So, given that most Windows Application use the standard Windows API (OpenFile and so on) to manage files, they won't see the files.
at least the gnex has a possibility of getting flash.. other future phones may not
They will. Other future OS versions will (not "may") not get a new version of Flash, but I doubt that Adobe will refuse to change 2 lines of code to make it compatible with Android 5.0, for instance.

They have already stated they wont.
They said they are stopping development on it. Doesn't mean they will stop supporting it.
Need to read between the lines. Adobe isn't just going to walk away from their biggest stronghold on the web. Flash is all but dead but Adobe knows it can't compete against HTML5, so why keep developing a product that you know has a short life?
They confirmed already that Flash Support will come for Android 4.0 (ICS) by end of this year. But this will be the last Android Version who gets it.

[Q] Is 'Droid working strictly for us (and not for Google) possible?

Hi, guys!
Before I pose my question: I am really in awe of projects in the Open Source community style and this is soooooo good to see and experience (my other hobby is Sat TV "hacking" and so on... )!!!!!!!!!! :good: So, endless thanx and respect(!!!!) to all involved!!!!!!!!!!
Context: recently I managed to S-OFF my HTC Desire with 'Droid 2.2.2, then somehow I rooted it, 4EXT recovery/backup (if memory serves, the "touch" one) is in, in recovery mode I flashed the latest MIUI ROM (sorry if I misspelled it) with JB 4.1.2, improved the "radio" and so on... The one or two things that do not work - that I noticed - was no sending SMSs and poor video recording and reproduction. So, the search is continuing!
My question is - before I attempt the flashing of Paranoid Android ROM (how fitting, regarding my question! ) - is there a ROM that has kicked the living daylights out of Google corporate c*a#, please? As in, there is no stuff, in that would-be ROM, that constantly collects our data and sends it back to corporate and other commercial coders, please?
Because, as a matter of principle, we ought not to have to think of just how much data is going to corporation(s) and individuals coding apps etc. And from then on, to "authorities", of course. Not that I have anything to fear, in that respect - but it is the principle that is at stake here! Similar with Linux v. MacroHard and their "enlightened" attitude towards our privacy etc.
You know, we have a myriad of apps of all sorts, so I suppose we do not need Google's intrusion in all aspects of our interaction. I am perfectly happy, for instance, to use Firefox or Maxthon or Opera browser and get into my emails that way, not having to use the Google app for Gmail! I presume we could also have other apps to replace Google chat (presumably through Firefox in Gmail?) and so on and so forth. Really, I do not need Google's maps, when we have Open Street app and so on and on and on.
So, does this ROM exist, please? No Google/corporate/commercial stuff in it, that is...
And if not, has the time arrived? It is Linux, after all...
Would it be possible to make something like that?
Many thanx, again!
P.S. I recently bought a SuperPad tablet and I wonder if there are custom built ROMs/OSs for those, as well? Anyone knows, please?
Well of course any Rom without the Google apps.
Your principles on data collection went out the window when you first used the internet.
I disagree... respectfully, of course...
For instance, see BBC website for the "right to be forgotten" EU proposal on data collection/storage/handling... However, no such battle can ever be completely lost or won - they keep going on...
As a newby I have a problem with posting links but... let me try:
Code:
bbc co uk / news / technology-16677370
My Q was also re. full functionality without Google stuff - some ROM authors warn that their ROMs can't function properly unless we flash the Google stuff immediately after ROM itself... Any clarification, please?

its not to do with they cant function properly (they can) its just the fact that play store is "google" and u also need a gmail account. correct me if im wrong. Soo like dethrat says,.... its about gapps. (more or less).
It's not a matter of me thinking this is/you're wrong (on this one). I think/hope, that you are also hoping that I am right... Am I right?
You have a point, in a way, since it started in this manner with credit cards (easily done but also easily circumvented) and onwards but...
Look, ever tried Flipboard? I mean, if you are neglecting the examples I already wrote about... Check it and compare with Google Currents, please... Simply flipboard dot com... Need I say more?
On the level of principles: we do not need to be tethered/electronically tagged and under constant "surveillance" by Google or any other corporation or even the state, for that matter... Don't you think this is kinda worth at least trying? No offence intended to anyone(!) but I think this is the adult thing to do...
Well, this is what I am looking forward to nowadays... So, do you think that, for instance, a developer of Paranoid Android could make it all work with "alternative" apps, please? An effective "Ads Blocker" and kinda "No Script" apps included, of course. Maybe even - in this sense - "cleaned up" crucial apps, too... If "Anonymous" were really serious and competent (intellectually, professionally and morally), maybe they should get on it right away, eh?
I mean, if I ever requested anything from anyone on these boards, this would be it - an AIO OS without corporate [email protected]#. And I have a feeling that a fair few of us might keep trying this sort of thing out...:good:
Code:
bbc dot co dot uk / news / science-environment-21923360
Any more info on my question, please? Anyone with some experience?
Cheers!
So, the great WoH tells me that it is possible to use his ROM without the G-stuff, that is "Gapps" - and that everything should work just fine! And I am very grateful for this possibility! I only need to "skip the step with the gapps", he says.
Then, one proceeds with "3rd party app stores" like Amazon, GetJar, Fireplace and Yandex.Store. I presume there is an included browser in the ROM without the Gapps, so I start it and go to one of those sites, get their gadget and simply install from there, the free stuff... hopefully not having to log in with my Gmail account...
My problem, though, lies here in this thread - setting up PDroid. That's for seriously enhanced privacy/security! In the thread's "how to" there seem to be some discrepancies with the newer versions of PDroid... Really not sure how to do it, what exactly must be done, with which files... And I can't post in that section, to ask questions... Like "Where is the apk you mention in the top post?" and "What exactly are the steps?"
So, I must prepare by reading a lot, testing it and then redoing it, from scratch, i.e. flash the ROM again, as WoH described in his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131790
My hope would be that he includes the PDroid patch/apps - if at all possible - in the next edition of his awesome ROM!
Also, I would dearly love to see and test a ROM with all the best alternative apps, links to a few of the best 3rd party apps stores, tools etc. - but no G-c#@p (or almost no G-c#@p)... at least as much as humanly possible...
Here is a sketch:
3rd party apps stores,
keyboard and speech apps,
a couple of browsers (Firefox/Opera, maybe),
a few tools to manage the phone and set it up properly (Advanced Task Killer, Android Manager and alike),
best audio-visually capable Gtalk app and Skype for chat,
some non-demanding but good protection (Avast suite?),
Flipboard for news,
Adobe Reader, Kindle and Aldiko for reading,
MX and Meridian players for multimedia stuff,
Flash,
camera and videocam apps(?),
audio, video and photo editing SW,
Sopcast (TV channels) and "1Channel for Google" for audio-video streaming from the net,
...and so on,,, everybody continuing to fill it up according to their preferences, of course... all freeware/gratis!!!
Perhaps call it an "Alternative apps pack"???
So, maybe: when apps2sd card tool has been installed, we flash the "Alternative apps pack"... and it all goes to an SD card?
I think this might be a very cool idea, for many of us...
Go WoH and co.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :good:

Extract apps into XAP/APPX packages? Is it possible?

Hey guys, I'm new with Interop unlocking and such things, but I already interop, cap unlock and jailbreak my phone. But I'm also careful on what I'm doing on my phone
So I wanna ask, the question most some are also in mind, especially with those users who want to pirate apps, share it to their friends maybe either for personal use or illegally, or it's because you're a man in a limited connectivity that's why? Is there any way in Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile to extract an already installed app, and return it into the XAP/APPX package? I know back in the Windows Phone 8.1 era, some sites are definitely able to do this, and even setup blogs and sites to distributed, even cracked and modified apps. Some are even homebrewed. So I'm certain and is finger crossed this is possible. Can we do this on our platform, just like Android? Any way or steps to do this? Even so complicated process.
To those that can be bothered, can you guys make a tutorial thread to do this?
My reason on this is because I want to extract the official native FM Radio app on the November Update of Windows 10 Mobile, and maybe selfhost and preserve it's APPX/XAP to those who want it back, I have always loved FM radio, it's easiness, it's niche and culture. I always want to have it if I ever happend to don't have any internet connection to pay to get to stream my music. And I hate that's just because Microsoft can't maintain it anymore, they'll just deprecate it? WHY NOT LEAVE IT BUNDLED INSTEAD. And the worse thing about this is they're asking us to use 3rd party apps instead, but THEY HAVEN'T RELEASED FM RADIO THROUGH SPEAKER APIS wtf?? There's nothing compare with the native, official FM radio app. It's just smooth and well designed, no ads, and well feature packed unlike the 3rd party ones which is impossible even to just play it on the speaker.

1. is forbidden to talk about piracy, read forum rules. xap files must be patched and that is gray area (you must install app first to phone and after that install files can copied and patched). if app not free is forbidden to talk here on forum.. for (free) appx files, most of them you can download direct from store links and no need any patching or extracting from phone.
2. native FM app is not possible to extract
3. if you want radio trough speakers, is possible with one Chinese trial app (unlimited trial for now)... app is terrible and crash but have speaker option
here is link https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh40lt2
my advice is to use any other FM radio app ("Radio FM Phone" for example) and switch to speaker with Chinese app). if you have Chinese caharacters in app, add English US language to phone as second language

8.1 people Hub install on w10m

Hi, is there a hack to get the old people hub on w10mobile? Prior to creators update, I could use Facebook connect. I am annoyed that it doesn't work even after I use the original MSFT version of Facebook (worked on my hp elite x3 until cu)

Is it possible to have even an older version of the "people app" on the latest w10m build? I just want the ppl app prior to creators update.
Hi. I wanted to fix it too. When i recover the system with windows device recovery tool things work and i always keep Microsoft Fbook app syincing just fine. The problem is that SO autoupdates itself from build to build. I copy data of apps with app data manager tool to try to get conclusions about it. I assume the problem is created on other apps that connect the info from FB to people. My best clue is the app named Content delivery manager. I tried to restore it but it fails.. when i try to recover this app with previous backup it also erases FBOOK to install but then it stops without ending the process.. I would need to inject it somehow to prove my theory. Info can pass through but not in the actual updated state of out OS.
Thanks, yes super frustrating that they intentionally continue to rip out the functions that kept the OS unique. My only guess us that they're trying to get rid of us.

Certainly makes you wonder. Im almost waiting for the day they flip an invisible switch and make the phones unable to connect to anything including your cell provider forcing us to ditch our bricks. They already forced the 8.1's to be unable to sync the MS accounts for months now. If that happens, i dont know what ill do, cause i refuse to use Android or iOS. Maybe ill find a flip phone...

Certainly not. For them to abandon for "iOS and Android app development" shows they give exactly two ****s about their users. I really wish i was a share holder...
When they moved away from WinMo for WP they really screwed up, but the users were *****ing for an OS that could run Win32 apps, so they gave us something "more powerful" but what they thought would compete with iOS and Android, which is completely backwards. If it werent for WinMo those two wouldnt be around. No Mac user ever complained that Apple didnt have a phone/OS and Google was just a search engine. Now granted, technology and progress dictate SOME change, but most 6.5 users loved it (I didnt, i think 6.1 was the best PPC version) only complaining about the hardware. I mean really, the HD1 was the pinnacle of hw? But, it could run Android, XP and WP7.8 (IIRC someone got RT to boot on it once or twice?), i never understood why MS was "happy" with HTC being the only HW developer until WP8. I would LOVE to see what a CE based WinMo 10 would do on a 950 spec HW. Prob run Win32 apps finally...
