stable nightly RC

Hi. I was think of trying CyanogenMod ROM. I went to their download page and notice there is things like nightly, stable and RC. what does these 3 means? Hmm...

Hi.Today i was tried for first time cm7 too....I have no idea about cm7 roms!I flashed this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905530 with straight download.Its very smooth and fast but have one bug...When u open the cam u see a black screen but is working...U can try this one too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271...But i think all of cm7 have some bugs...

Nightlies are in constant development, so they are updated "nightly" and have the latest features and can also have some bugs. RCs are considered to be stable enough for everyday use, imo the nightlies are also as I've been using them almost since the launch of CM7 and haven't got any overwhelming problems. The stable ones are, well stable ones But the stable ones are CM6 and based on android 2.2 so they are "old" in that sense.
I would encourage you to try the CM7 RC2 or even the latest nightly as they really are great and you won't actually notice that it still is a work in progress

Stable - The latest stable release, the current 6.1.3 is froyo based and should be useable as a daily rom with no major bugs and very few minor bugs.
Release Candidate RC - This is a proposed release candidate (current one is Gingerbread based) for the next stable release, it should be stable enough to use as a daily rom (indeed I have had no problems running it), there may be a few major bugs and more minor bugs than you would find in the stable release.
Nightly - these are releases based on the latest release ( can be either based on stable or RC, currently based on RC2 ), aimed at adding new features, which may or may not work, or providing bug fixes to features already present (which again may or may not work).
Currently RC 2 is feature locked, therefore the nightlies are aimed at bugfixing or polishing features already present in preparation for the next stable release, As such the nightlies should improve upon the current RC, although it's not unknown for bugfixes to break functionality in a major way.

I can highly recommend CM7 RC2 with the Battery drain fix (#5) by mad-murdock.
I've been running it for the last 2 days, after coming from Android Revolution 3. It's fast, stable, and very light-weight.
Camera and video recorders work, however they're not quite as polished as the HTC versions.
Before the Battery drain fix, the battery life was terrible, however now it's better than Android Revolution.
Currently have 62% battery remaining, 13 hours after removing it from the charger.

The thread with information and a link to #5 patch is here. I've been running that for several days and it's great even with the latest nightly build. There are a couple of caveats so reading the thread will help.

Any noticeable differences between RC2 and the latest nightly?
The only bug I've noticed with RC2 so far is the occasional freezing in landscape mode after finishing a call. Easily resolved by locking and unlocking the rotation though, so hasn't been an issue.

I haven't noticed any new issues that aren't already in RC2. And with Mad's #5 battery patch idle power consumption is about 1% per hour, but you can use that on RC2 too.

Technically there are no truly supported device for CM9 as they haven't even made any nightly releases. With that said, according to the official statement, QSD8250 devices (Nexus One, Inc, Evo4g) should be supported. That is planned but not definite.

Above is the official statement from CM. If you want CM9 support, CUViper is the CM maintainer for the Inc. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus user using AOSP, AOKP is a great ROM based on stock. CM9 is not really even ready on the GNex so I'd say they're still working on it. It's not as simple as a transition from froyo to gingerbread.

Hey a good rom is a good rom. Im not bashing other devs but the rom is the most complete at the moment. Since he only post updates on twitter i post everything everywhere i can so more people can have this awesome rom

I used to be a hard core cyanogenmod user and I recently switched over to MIUI which will be coming out with v4 soon
I am much happier with MIUI.. give it a try..

yes there is a CM9 in the works. most of the ICS builds that are out now for the phone are repo'ed from CM source.

I don't know if CM9 will get inc support but the kushdeck alpha 5 has the camera working now; so feel free to FLASH AWAY!! eh, eh, see what he did there?

There is already a CM9 release out for the INC, but I'm assuming it's very buggy and it is missing some important apps.

nope R2 pulled repo from cm so its not a port. they are work on it. we still have one maintainer left. CUViper. i have faith in him.

Why would he say that if it wasnt a port?

Likely to be a port only, but that's where most of our great ROMs come from. These are called AOSP for a reason...
On another note, CCM7 (V10) is a great ROM to hold you off until ICS hits us in February, oops did I drop dates?

[POLL] Which ROM do YOU feel is best for everyday use

PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING: Just wanted to see what the general consensus was about which ROM is best for everyday use, and for new guys trying out a new ROM, this is a good starting point on what to try first. I agree, most ROMs update often (sometimes daily!) and even though one update may break a thing or two, the general usability of that ROM usually maintains the same.
Now, when voting for this poll, remember to take account usability in an everyday environment, not full-fledged feature comparison. Some ROMs can't record 720p and most ICS ROMs have no (not even partial) HWA and can't use video camera. But these things are things most of us can live without. So when voting, please take into account the basics: If the phone works, if messages work, if you can use Wi-Fi properly, if 3G works, if phone reboots too often or not, if the ROMs runs stable and smooth or if it lags and locks up, battery life, photo camera works or not.
After taking into account usability, take into account features. For example, if you feel there is a CM9 ROM that runs as stable and usable as another CM7 ROM, choose the CM9
Please vote for ROMs you personally have tried, and not for ROMs you "heard" work well. More than one choice can be selected because you may feel more than one ROM was working well enough to be used daily.
Note: I started making the poll including only CM variations, and decided to include other ROMs in the mix (which I'm not sure are based off of CM material), so I just decided to leave CM7 for any Gingerbread based ROM and CM9 for any Ice Cream Sandwich based ROM
DISCLAIMER: This is by any means no reason to diminish some developer's work, but is instead intended for the average guy who doesn't have all day to be flashing new ROMs everytime a new build comes out.

Well, Quark's GB CM9 is my daily ROM. It is pretty stable AND usable since 0805 if you blacklist HWUI for some apps.
I really don't see any point why I should go back to stock or CM7.

CM7 - Euro Skank

Quarx-cm9 from May 11... seems very stable.

I'm using the quarx 120506 (May 6th) and it's pretty stable.
I was having some issues with previous CM9 versions from Quarx and Epsylon, like Bluetooth issues, crashing apps, slower camera, reboots and so on.
This is with no doubt the best CM9 so far (i didn't tested yet the versions from days 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 (may)).
When I have time I'll update to 11th may version to see what have been improved.

I´ve started trying ROMs since i did my register, and that´s a few things i could say about ´em
Gigglebread´s builds of CM7 are the best for me in terms of daily use.
- fast
- stable
- well customized
(i can´t remember of any bug or FC in a little while since i started using it)
120508_v2 Defy+ Quarx´s build of CM9 are the closest of a daily use ROM of all the ones i´ve been testing (so far)
- fastest CM9 i´ve ever tried (after installing Apex Launcher)
- stable (phonecalls, sms, wi-fi, 3g, sensors, camera, gps ...)
- still little buggy with camcorder, and the panomara doesn´t work for me
ps:I ALWAYS do a full wipe before swapping from cm7 to cm9 roms and i always flash my stock SBF before getting back to cm7.
I don´t use chrome, for me dolphin browser mini is enough.

I´m on Maniacs nightlies (CM 7.2) for quite a while now and my Defy is completely stable, fast and i go for more than 2 days without charging

Are there any stable stock ICS or Jelly Bean Roms?

I bought a SGH-T989-D (telus version) and it came rooted with cyanogenmod installed. It was so fast and beautiful but it had many major bugs that made it unusable (call echo, battery life, caller id broken, random restarts). It's been about 4 months so I wanted to see what the most stable roms are.
I'm looking for a rom that is fast and close to stock ICS or maybe jellybean if that's out yet. I'm currently on touchwiz ics but it's not as smooth or snappy as the buggy rom the phone came with was.

this question gets asked quite a bit and my opinion on the matter(since you asked) is bugs don't seem to pop up for everyone. If the phone you had had issues maybe it was just that version of CM. If you like CM then I would suggest trying a nightly, RC2 or AOKP.
There are different developers that have kanged CM as well so try that. Since what is a bug for one person is not necessarily a bug for others its a trial and error. Anyone can post a link and say this or that is the best but only your real world experience can determine if its your dd= daily driver or not....
I have been running CM9 or AOKP since I got my phone and no issues at all...No radio issues No GPS issue No hot reboot issues... so far nada... Give them all a try thats my opinion

As said earlier, CM9 and AOKP are both great. My only issue with them is that they don't have wifi calling so be wary of that if you need that feature.

Just update to the latest cm9 nightly at get.cm for the Hercules. If you are already on cm9 then make a back up and then wipe system, cache, and dalvik. Then flash cm9 and gapps.

CM9 has come a LONG way these past months and virtually every bug you posted has been fixed. CM9 RC2 has been running beautifully for me for nearly a week and a half now. I recently took the plunge with TDJ's latest Venom kernel and it's been running even smoother. AOSP ROMs may have been buggy in the past but now there really isn't any reason to go back to TW. Unless of course you need wifi calling... but our devs are currently working on that and there are alternatives that allow you to call from wifi (Talkatone, Vonage, GrooveIP). So really, in my opinion, there really is no reason to go back to carrier bloat.

You could always use odin to flash a stock ICS, then root and remove bloat. You'd have a completely stock ICS running stable. As long as you're rooted, you can always flash modifications down the road. If you want a little extra performance but want to still maintain stock as much as possible, you can just flash a modified kernel on top.

camera from one rom to another...

This might be for the dev forum but I can't post due to newbie restrictions. At any rate, I've been using the unofficial CM9 ics rom and have had better results using the RC2 builds than the RC3 and later. However, the RC3 builds have a working high def camera and the RC2 cams are lousy, poor focus etc...
Is there any way to just get the camera drivers and the like from the newer rom and install unto my older rom. I really don't like the RC3 -- I get a multitude of weird errors, bad digitizer response, wifi drops, etc... and the built in kernel just doesn't play nice with my OC/UV stuff.
I just want the working camera. Any tips? Thanks!
