So I've got a pair (if you can call it a pair) of Motorola Motorokr S9-HD Headphones.
I can connect them to the phone just fine, but when I cover the bottom portion of the phone with my hand the signal drops out completely and I was wondering if anyone else experiences this or if it's just me.
So surrounding the bottom portion of the phone (with the Home, Menu, Search and Back buttons) with my hand and the signal drops out. Headphones on, phone in front of me.
Same thing happens if I push the phone up against my chest/stomach, no signal. Sometimes to the point that it disconnects entirely.
Normally I would be like "no big deal, I just won't do that." But the phone being in either my front or back pocket causes the same effect, making them kind of useless.
So, end result, is it my headphones, my phone, or both? Can you test the headset you have and see how it works out for you?
I've attempted this on stock ROM with Root, Fresh 5.3, and DC 3.2.3 with the same results each time.
I tihnk the BT and WIFI ant's are on the bottom
teh CDMA is on top -- if i cover the top, i can go from 4 bars to 0 barz
if i cover the bottom the wifi drops a lot
i think the BT ant is pretty weak .. couldn't go more than 10 ft from a laptop doing audio streaming
i'll try the BT later on when i get home unless someone else gets to it first

Well if the BT antenna isn't on the bottom, then why is it when I put my hand over the bottom the signal drops?
I want to see if anyone else can replicate this issue..
I have the same headset. I tried everything you did and it works for me. I occasionally get a breakup of audio, but it is not related, however it is the headset.

Damn, that sucks. I hardly used the damn thing. Thanks for checking it out, I would have assumed it was the phone.

i'm saying the tooth antenna IS (probably) on the bottom hence why you cover it up it dont work as good. sorry my grammer sucks
I would swap it for another one. While generally I find the headset to be a great improvement over past Bluetooth Headsets, I am still not impressed that after 15 years that bluetooth has been around that it has yet to impress me as a wireless medium.
This headset is still only class 2 and Bluetooth 2.0. Where are all of the Class 1 and Bluetooth 4.0 devices?
I have tried all the Plantronic, Jawbone and Numerous Motorola devices and have been left wanting. I will probably be returning this headset as well. Although it has good sound quality, the earbuds (event he smallest ones) are too big for my ears and they do not seat down inside like a quality pair of tips. The phone breaks up especially while on the phone, but for listening to music, it is in general quite a good device.
The biggest problem with going wired headsets is that people have quit making a good wired stereo heatset with mic.
well, I have had 20 or more BT headsets, and, the only one I have EVER had that played music without breakup is the Jawbone Icon..
Sure the sound sucks, its mono and tinny, but I never lose signal with pandora, slacker, or sd card music with this headset..
motorola s9HD was one of the worst ones I had for losing signal from my phones..agree that its a shame that no one is able to make a HQ STEREO BT lightweight headset that doesnt drop signal yet..
the backbeats are damn good for music, world better than my s9s. ive got the 903 but the 906 are supposedly even better
I have the same issue with the motorolas, not as bad as you but I do get the breakup if i carry the phone in front of me. I have the Shure 530 headphones which kick ass so I got a Sony BT Transmitter, I think it is the BT15 or maybe the BT30, works perfect for me, I clip it on the front of my shirt plug in the Shures and presto bluetooth. The receiver even has a built in mic, works about as good as the Motorolas.

I can't for the life of me remember which one I have but be advised one of them has a mini usb charger the other requires a specific cradle, i go the one that has the mini usb, didn't want to carry around a specific charger for this.
So, I bought a Belkin Bluetooth receiver yesterday to get rid of my 5 meter (15 feet) cable to my amplifier. The devices pair up nicely and sweet music streams out of my loudspeakers.
But I notice that when Bluetooth is activated it can mess up my WiFi. If I have the phone laying down on the sofa or on my living room table its OK. But if I pick the phone up and if I have my hand on the upper half of the Desire, the music starts to lag and the WiFi disconnects and reconnects. It keep on doing that until I remove my hand. Have anyone else experienced this problem?
This is only 3 meters (9 feet) away from the Bluetooth receiver, noting blocking the signal. Also, I can not move away from the receiver more than 5 meters (15 feet). If so the reception is lost. Disappointing because it should be more like 10 meters or 30 feet before signal lost, at least with clear sight...
Currently I'm on Open Desire 4.0.34 and radio 5.10.05.23, but I have tried with both newer and older radio releases.
Just thinking, is the Desire poorly designed regarding the RF-area. Or is it my phone that is broken? Cause I use Spotify alot and I don't have room for almost all music in the world on my SD-card, so WiFi is important
I have the same, the WiFi areal seems to be located at the top half of the phone. You just need to hold it by the bottom half.
Using a pair of Motorola S9-HD for the time being until I get my Klipsch S4As in due to the Samsung ones dying on me. Whenever i put my phone in my pocket the audio skips. Has anyone had this issues and been able to remedy this?

which ROM / OS are you using? earlier OS like 4.0.1 were known to have audio issues
Hey, i experience the same issue. I'm on 4.0.2 I'm using Jaybird freedom bluetooth headset and when i put my phone in a waist pouch while i run it skips alot. But when i hold it in my hand it rarely skips. it's sad because i thought bluetooth had a range of like 30 feet or so. Hopefully it's just a bug and will get fixed with an update.

Yeah. Same thing. If I put it in my pants pocket or side pocket of my bag it skips. If I hold it no skip. :/

I bought a Moto S10-HD headset last week. It's been perfect. Over the past few days, I've used it about 5 hours a day, mainly traveling since my car isn't set up for plugging a phone into the stereo. I haven't had any skips. I use it at the gym when I do cardio, and it's fine in my pocket, in the cupholder of the Arc, where ever I stick it.
VZW Version, Android 4.0.4
Now, If I go walking off into another room, like 30+ feet away, it will skip in and out due to distance/signal strength. I know it's the newer model, maybe the bluetooth connection is stronger than the S9-HD? On the phone side of things, I'm not sure what the differences in bluetooth strength is between different modem packages, but maybe a radio update will help. My BT strength is REALLY off the chart, better than any Android device I've ever used. I haven't had BT this good since an old Sony Ericson and an unknown BT headset that probably scrambled my brains. I still have that phone and I SWEAR that it's BT has a much further range than the 30 foot rule. Likewise, on my SGS it's like 5 feet was the max...and I couldn't dream of it going in my pocket. Even my cheap little Plantronics headset seems to have a little more range.

i use the sony ericsson MW600 bluetooth headset with my galaxy nexus but it has problems as that is always disconnecting when the phone is in standby mode. Is there any bluetooth headset that works perfect with galaxy nexus, without discconections and auto pairing every time they are in near distance? I would like to be with 2 corded earbuds like MW600.
No issues so far
I'm using the same one .. never had such issues? though I'm not an excessive user!
I will put it in extreme test, will check and revert ..

I have it, I hate it...
It doesn't disconnect like you said, screen off, if a notification arrives, it plays through MW600...
Altough, you tell about auto pairing, I've noticed that this headset with the galaxy nexus doesn't behave properly, if it is connected, and you walk away (and leave your phone), when you come back, it won't connect, and sometimes, phone bluetooth connection is killed (if you try to turn it off and on again, you won't be able to turn it on)... Also, it doesn't work properly with Galaxy Nexus in ADP, if I play a game, audio is delayed by 1-2 seconds... Same headset in other phones (Motorola Milestone, Nokia E51) work fine, no delay.... In an iPad 2 it also doesn't exhibt this behavior... So, I'm inclined to say that Bluetooth stack in 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 is garbage (since it worked fine in 4.0.2)...
The headset seems great, and if I were using it with my Milestone/E51 or iPad 2, I would be a happy user, but, it simply doesn't work well with Galaxy Nexus in 4.0.4 or 4.1.1 (not sure if other headsets do, I believe they do not, otherwise I would expect to read a lot of complaints here).

Its exactly what you saied friend! Its a big preoblem that auto pairing is not working and that phone bluetooth connection is killed and cannot turn the bluetooth on again. So, have to buy another bluetooth headset???
Try the jaybird freedom. I've used it for 8 months and they worked great until I ran in the rain for a good while and the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. But that's my fault not really the headset. I am planning to buy another set and be more careful.

Interesting, I got the MW600 mainly to stream music at work on my desktop (was PITA to set up, but that might be a Win7 problem vs SE problem). I have linked it to my phone running various JB ROMs and haven't had any trouble yet.
Fingers crossed. For the 2 weeks I've had it, it's been great for listening to music, but on calls I get complaints of a fair amount of road noise. I'd use it for phone calls in a pinch, but probably not as a main voice headset.
Anyone having any Bluetooth issues with the S6? In particular, with the Jaybird Bluebud X earbuds? I emailed Jaybird support to see if they are aware of any issues. Based on my research, I cant tell for sure if there is a known issue or not.
Basically, heres whats happening. This is the first time Im using a Bluetooth headset but pretty confident this isnt a settings issue.
Bluetooth pairs fine. But if my phone is not within a foot or two, or not in direct line-of-sight of the earbuds, the sound cuts in and out, or totally out. So if I put the phone in my pocket, I lose sound. If I hold the phone behind my back, I lose sound. Bluetooth stays connected, but the sound goes out abruptly. It doesnt get distorted or faint, it just cuts out. If I bring the phone back in line-of-sight, or close to the phone it works great. But it kind of defeats the purpose. I had to hold the phone at my chest on my walk to work this morning in order for it to work right. If I cover the top half of the phone, it goes out (eerily similar to the old iPhone issue with the antenna, if you touch the frame a certain way it seems to go out). But sometimes depending how I touch the controller-side earbud, it goes out. Its as if anything that blocks the line-of-sight or sensors on the phone/earbud, it blocks sound. I tested this in Safe Mode as well and the problem is still there.
For whats its worth, I have a Jambox at home and the S6 connects fine with it, no matter where I am in the apartment or how Im holding the phone. So I really doubt this is a problem with the phone but who knows. I have my old S4 on KitKat at home that I will test with tonight as well.
Some new information after some testing at the office this morning.
Tried the earbuds with a Galaxy Note 4, and iPhone 4S, and the same problem is happening. So thankfully it doesnt look like an issue with the S6. I'll be sending these earbuds back for a new pair and report. If problems continue, obviously I'll be trying another kind of earbuds.
Stopped and picked up the Plantronics Backbeat Go 2. So far, these are working perfectly though they may not be quite as loud. But its good to know it doesnt appear to be a problem with the phone. Must be some kind of compatibility issue with the Bluebuds. I have a replacement set of Bluebuds on the way so Ill report back if they work any better than the first pair.
My bluebud x does the same. Walked over a foot away and the music stops. Walk back closer to the phone music comes back on.
Received my replacement Bluebuds and the same problem occurs. So there must be some kind of compatibility issue.
Jaybird says they are unaware of a known issue but I find that hard to believe.
So Ill be using the Plantronics for now since they seem to work fine.
Samsung S6 issues
I recently purchased the JayBird BlueBud X and literally had the same issue. It connected and paired perfectly fine, but it only lasted for about 10 seconds before the sound went away. You could press any button on the BlueBuds and it would start up again for a few seconds and the sound would go away again. It paired perfectly with my sister's Samsung Galaxy S4 and my friend's iPhone 5. I called their technical support and they suggested, I send it in and get a replacement. I wasn't having any of that BS. I just returned them. Sadly, they were the most comfortable earbuds, I have ever worn. There is some compatibility issues that need looking into.

The same thing happens with my LG Tones, the antenna seems to be in the left side on them and having to go through my body to the phone in my pocket is just too much. It's been an issue with both phones I've used it with, the S6 and the S4 before it. Bluetooth in low power devices just seems to have to be super weak.
Has anyone found a fix for this problem as yet? I have the same issue with my bluebuds when I am at the gym as well.
You don't know how much effort I put into figuring out it was the phone and not the bluebudsx. Ended up returning and getting G new headphones 3 times, before sending in my phone to be replaced. Figured out that the new phone was still dropping the connection too, so it had to be the phone and not the headphones. It really sucks because I run twice daily, and Bluetooth made things so much easier. It looks like just bad hardware from Samsung, so there won't be a fix coming. Just gonna have to used wired headsets again...
Oh and for the record, I'm not having issues with distance causing drops. The drops occur randomly after usage, anywhere from 5 minutes to 6p minutes into my run. So everyday is a new day when I go running, since im always worrying about when my music will cut out and mess up my rhythm. Tested bluebudsx with my N5, Note 4, and EVO LTE. None cut out randomly during runs. So I came to the conclusion it has to be bad hardware on the S6.
glad I saw this, I was considering these for jogging/exercising, I'm presently using a Samsung HS3000 with a pair of Beats UR Beats, guess I'll stick with that combo

I have the LG tone pros and same thing happens to me. I also have a pair of Plantronics Backbeat fits and it also does the same. The phone has poor Bluetooth as well as antenna. My signal sucks most of the time

Xtrestolite is a Rom for S6, right? That makes me think that it maybe a software issue with the phone not a hardware issue.
I'm wondering if it has to do with 5.0. 2 Android. Has anyone flashed the new 5. 1.1 release? If it is software that's causing issues, maybe something was changed between versions. I would test it myself but I need to stay on 5.0.2 for personal reasons.

Just got my jaybirds and my S6 (G925T) is running 5.1.1 and is having the same issue. Music will play for 30sec-1min but then it cuts out. The bluebuds x work fine on my Nexus 7 which is also running 5.1.1

It seems like I was able to fix the issue for my S6. I enabled Bluetooth HCI snoop log in the Developer options and then copied the file (btsnoop_hci.log) to my computer and found in Wireshark that my Logitech bluetooth adapter was showing up a lot even though it was not paired to my phone. I disconnected the adapter and found that I can play music without the dropped audio. I'd recommend everyone to take a look at their logs and see if there is any weird traffic from other bluetooth devices. It's somewhat disconcerting that a device not even paired to my phone could cause problems with the headphones.

Interesting. I'll try that, but I'm thinking I have a different problem since I can be walking around or running outside and connections will still drop randomly.
I am having the same issue on Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. Soooo annoying. The only pattern that I was able to figure out is that sound will cut out every time there is a Bluetooth interference. Even when there are no other Bluetooth devices within miles. When ever you have any other apps running in the background that try to connect to Bluetooth devices sound will cut out. For example when u have some fitness tracking app trying to connect to a Bluetooth device that is not with you. It seems that there are few different ways that your sound cuts out and all has to do with Bluetooth interference or searching. It would be awesome if someone has a solution.
Samsung GS6 and Jaybird Bluebuds X connecting
Hello all,
I was having the same issue with my Samsung GS6 ATT running 5.1.1.
I would put the phone in my pocket or walk a few feet away and the signal would drop out (skip).
Reading all the posts on here stating it wasn't the buds I tried the one thing that possibly on mine can cause the bad signal.
I removed my case! (OBLIQ case)
Since doing that I can walk 30 ft away without being in line of sight of my phone with no drops.
I'm having no issues during training, with my new pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X and my Galaxy S6 running Stock 5.1.1. BTW I'm using a Ringle SLIM case on my S6.
It's there any way to show battery percentage on an Android Phone? . This is possible on IOS.
Excellent troubleshooting, icj217 - I experienced this same issue to where the audio would drop between every 5-8 mins on my GS6 using the Bluebuds X (regardless of distance). I've cleared all the paired devices (including the Bluebuds X) on my GS6 and re-paired the headphones and they seem to be working fine now. I'm wondering what's going to happen once I re-pair all my other bluetooth devices. If I inherit the problem again, this will be just another reason to dump the GS6 and go back to my Nexus 5.
