I followed the guide " [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter [Tmobile / Wind / Mobilicity] "
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
Will I still receive OTA updates?
I heard there is a new radio out but I haven't got any OTA yet. Is it unofficial and I have to flash it myself or did I give up OTA updates when I followed that guide?
As far as I know nobody knows for sure, but if you do, it's a good idea not to install it until you come back on here to see if others have installed it and not had trouble. Sometimes rooted phones get borked from ota updates.

i would like to root my phone but would still like to receive stock ics when it comes out, but i read if you are rooted and have CWM you wont get OTA updates so i was wondering is there a way to root only. i found this (link at bottom) would it just root and not install anything else?
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/
That would just give you root access.
But read this. It's useful information.

well, most of the ROMs are based off stock, and will probably get the upate notification. However, you might have troubles updating through OTA because of this..
You can:
update through kies
flash a deodexed and rooted stock ICS ROM when released for t989
flash stock build through odin.
I would just flash a rooted rom to make like easier.
I recently rooted my room following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743780
I was forced to unRoot due to my companies policy involving GFE (Good For Enterprise) for rooted phones. So i followed the instructions here to unroot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743780
Now when i try to install the OTA for Jelly Bean i get this error message:
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("EMMC:/dev/block/mmcblk0p7:5714176:66e3b4975660009f6e202abb943d037945446642:5748992:998ceebec698c56e61f2ffc91110009f6e202abb943d037945446642")
Please help as I am a novice. Not sure if this information helps but:

Thanks, so flashing the lj7 will update my phone and will not need to be rooted correct? My primary purpose is to have an unrooted phone with Jelly Bean that will be able to accept future OTAs with no issue.

You'll be completely up to date totally stock with root. You will still be able to apply future ota updates but they will break root access when they are applied.

Forgive me if i sound ignorant. But how do I get back to stock and un-rooted? If i'm rooted i can run GFE (Good For Enterprise) app as it checks for compliance and the phone canted be rooted.

Hey just wondering if I should do the update to stock 4.3 OTA or not. I've been looking at the root66 knox free 4.3 and it sounds good. Any Issues with it? or stock OTA? I've read mixed reviews, and am now confused. Also if I do install root66 on this wind t999v, am I required to install the stock OTA 4.3 update for it to work? Or am I in a better situation if I just install it from 4.1.2? Also any basic instructions on what I would have to do to install root66 would be much appriciated. I'm technologically inclined, just been out of the cellphone moding scene for quite some time, and just want to ask before I start asking how to unbrick. Thanks in advance.:good:
Knox Free Root 66 is always preferred over Stock update. The instructions and all the necessary files are in the Root66 Thread.
In short you need Odin v 3.xx Need to have the Drivers installed for your phone. Make sure Kies is not installed on your PC. Put your phone in Download mode and then connect to pc. Flash the Root66 file and you are done. There are several tutorials on Youtube for how to use Odin.
Note - For your Knowledge, please read on the 4.3 and its locked bootloader.
The root66 works fine on the wind phone and disables knox. it doesn't trip the flash counter so warranty is still intact if you had to flash back to a knox-rom. once you get into custom roms', the flash counter gets tripped though.
i just installed the 4.4.2 likewise rom, and it is smoooooooth. lol. it's not official though.

because you cannot downgrade from 4.3 firmware.
I have a rooted note 3 t-mobile phone, I wanted to upgrade to kitkat or any newer software available, but I have no clue how to do it without loosing the root.
Model number
SM-N9OOT
Android version 4.3
Kernel ver
3.4.0-1670611
Is it necessary to upgrade?
Thanks.

What's the big deal about re-rooting the phone, it only takes about 10 seconds?
Here is the direct download link for the latest odin flash official N900T NF4 firmware:

You're welcome for the firmware link.
Also, seeing as he's on 4.3, perhaps he doesn't want to trip knox, which your bullish statement will do.
I asked you nicely in pm to link to my thread instead of stealing my links, but since you ignored that, be prepared to have me comment on your posts where you try to pass them off as your own, or at least fail to attribute.
I appreciate that you want to help others, but please attribute links and/our abide by the posters requests when they ask you.
Thanks

That's strange, I never did have any issues when rooting or re-rooting
my phone. Usually when I see someone having problems rooting it's
usually caused by not using the time-tested method of odin flashing the
correct and latest version of cf-autoroot designed for the N900T.
Good luck!
Follow the directions from Effortless. And get the free version of Triangle Away (link in OP). It's "effortless".

Is it necessary to upgrade? IMO not really unless you care about VoLTE and Download booster. In that case here's what I would do to upgrade and retain root and knox 0x0:
Download ne6 firmware from link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2769856
Followed this instruction below to update from 4.3 MI7 to 4.4.2 ne6 and ne6 bootloader and keep root and not trip knox. OR if I'm not mistaken, you can just flash ne6 rom and bootloader via PC odin without tripping knox since they are stock firmware and bootloader. Then root with www.towelroot.com.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53016778&postcount=9
After you update to ne6 with root, f you wanna keep going and update to latest nf4 then go to the thread below, and download nf4 firmware, bootloader, and MODEM+NON-HLOS. Follow step 2 on how to update to nf4 and retain root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...900tuvudnf4-extracted-stock-firmware-t2834398
If you care about working wifi calling then follow instruction below instead of step 2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54621389&postcount=86
Good luck!
Hi,
Here is my sad story. Long time ago I've upgraded to official 4.3 rom as it became available by Samsung, didn't like it and downgraded to official 4.1.1 rom. As I didn't know about knox at that time I've got nice knox warranty void flag I know that there is no way to remove it. But the question is about flash counter. Is there any way to reset it, put device into official mode and have official ota updates? Is there any tutorial about this? Thanks.
You can download stock rom from sammobile.com you can then would be eligible for OTA updates and to reset the flash counter you can use triangle away app ( but its risky )

Are you saying that if I upgrade to 4.3.3 again I'll eligible for OTA updates even if I'm not in official status? I'm on official 4.1.1 and I'm not eligible for ota updates.

Yes if you flash offical stock rom from sammobiles.com you would be able to get all the OTA updates.
Then please explain the following - I'm on official stock 4.1.1 now and I'm not eligible for OTA. Why is that? And why will this change if I upgrade to 4.3.3 again?
