What are these APK's in the CM10 ROM? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

There are a few APKs in CM10 that I have no idea what they are.... coming from a Nexus S I know most of the APKs included in the ROM but there are a few that I'm unsure of and if anyone can tell me what these are and if they are safe to delete:
BIP.apk
Inputdevices.apk
SDM.apk
Secphone.apk
SyncMLSvc.apk
Also I have a good idea what these are but do I need them?
BackupRestoreConfirmation.apk
DrmProvider,apk
Gmscore.apk
Setupwizard.apk
Hiddenmenu.apk
Much thanks!

bump... anyone?

i'd like to know too

I understand that Gmscore.apk is the photosphere viewer, but can't get it to work, it seems it's fairly common issue in non-Nexus devices. (like my Sensation)

The BIP is a proprietary Bluetooth apk. Dunno bout input SDM either. Secphpone and syncmlsvc are sprint proprietary apks. Dunno about backup I'm guessing that is for the Google account backup. DRM provider is an apk that is used for DRM. Digital rights ,management. Something apps require for things to be streamed. Like hulu+ Gmscore is related to gmail I think NOT the photosphere camera. Setup wizard is the beginning setup you do when you first flash the ROM. Hidden menu is another sprint proprietary apk.
Do not delete any of these. You can stop them at boot if they are running but do not delete them.

[Q] Stock.apk / Stock.odex - safe to delete?

Hi, Im looking through my Evo and I see stock.apk but im uncertain if that is stocks application (stock market stuff) or if its some stock (default) component of sprint...
Could someone confirm if Stock.apk and Stock.odex are safe to delete?
Thank you!!
Yes it's safe if you don't use stocks.
is it safe to delete just .odex?

Not its not safe to just delete the odex, apk and odex use one another so if you remove the odex then you also have to remove the apk.

apk dependancies and app -> apk name?

I want to remove pre-installed apps I don't need/want on my phone.
And I want to know if there is a way to see what apks another apk needs to run.
and if there is a way to find what apk file an app in my app list is.
And another thing. if I deodex stuff, is it only /system/app and /system/framework I need to deodex? or is there any apk's in other places too?

The problem here is that an apk is usually a standalone package but the app may call other apps during runtime, so hard to know what's going on during runtime..

Just use Super Manager and launch APK Manager; you'll have a list showing the installed apps, click on one of them, you'll get a lot of info including apk name and package name

Yes, you need to deodex system apps and framework stuff, nothing else.

[How-To] Removing worthless system-apps

Hey, i deleted some system apps, which i will never need again.
First you need Titanium Backup. You find it in the Market.
So you´re able to save your apps and then unistall it. But dont uninstall everything...some apps are very important!
I only uninstalled apps, which are not to use on the flipout but uses disk space.
Files you can delete:
ESMusica
HipHopOfficial
Kodak Perfect Touch
QuickOffice (i have QuickOffice Pro installed)
RevolverTV
SIM Toolkit 2.1 update 1
TrueCountry 2.0.0012
Youtube (i replaced it with the android2.3 youtube)
There are a lot more apps to delete but some apps need a similar app to replace e.g. blur launcher...the phone won´t start if there is no similar launcher added before..
have fun
Thanks, can anyone post some more disposable applications here?

Here are the names I found on mine:
hiphopofficial.apk
esmusica.apk
revolver.apk
YouTube.apk
KPT.apk (kodak stuff)
Quickoffice_BasicViewer_2_0_26_NSTL_Signed_2010-05-04_19-41-13.apk truecountry.apk
Stk.apk (sim toolkit, i think)
Added to your list:
ArcVideoEditorLite.apk
@Schallstoerer
can you post your upgraded youtube apk ?
no problem!
you have to rename it in youtube.apk!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817528
1. download the apk
2. delete old youtube.apk from /system/app/youtube.apk with root explorer
3. restart the phone
4. uninstall com.google.android.youtube (it appears after the restart in your settings - manage apps...
5. move the new youtube.apk to the system/app folder
6. install it!
maybe you have to restart..dont know!
Having problems with your youtube app.
To make the vid start i have to click on HQ as soon as the vid opens otherwise it returns 'sorry can't play...'.

Some more apps I'd remove:
newswidget
socialshare
statuswidget
universalinbox
weatherwidget
blur-services [very uncertain about this, is this system necessary ?]
blurcontactssync [very uncertain about this too]
do you think it's safe removing them ?
One more question: I made a backup of previously removed apps but apks only, not the odex files. If I try putting the apk back to /system/app the app works again although I read that odexed apps usually need both apk and odex to start again.
sooo lets try!
i dont have the problems with the youtube.apk like you! do you have uninstalled the com.google.android.youtube after restart?
maybe you have to set the permissions in root explorer to
"rw-r--r--"
i hope it will help!
there are a lot of lists which system apps can be deleted and whats their function!
http://www.android-hilfe.de/anleitu...beit-welche-apps-duerfen-entfernt-werden.html
this is the best list i found but only in german!
Red=Don´t delete
Green=Deleting possible

solved youtube problem with 200kb apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13249766&postcount=242
re. apps to remove, I installed deblurred rom as per guide:
PROS: no odex files, no blur account app
CONS: an older gmail app version (as far as I remember I could install apk via gmail with blurred Italian rom, now I can't but not sure about this)

Recompiling ContactsProvider.apk in order to support Facebook sync again

Hi people,
we all know that since ICS the Facebook app can't sync anymore with Android because Google disabled that feature, and wants Facebook to alter it's app in order to get the sync working again.
Facebook doesn't seem to be working very hard on that, and i really like my FB contacts being synced. So i read a few things on the web, and i saw this: http://android.modaco.com/topic/350037-enabling-facebook-sync-in-ice-cream-sandwich/. That seemed very interesting, but it still worked with some ugly init.d scripts, and his scripts can't be downloaded as Filesonic keeps deleting those files (and he didn't post the source).
But the first step he explained seemed helpful, and a poster who commented on his post gave a solution to get the sync working with only editing the ContactsProvider.apk: http://android.modaco.com/topic/350...-cream-sandwich/page__p__1873845#entry1873845.
So i tried it out. Took my contactsprovider.apk from OneCosmic's ICS (RC 2.11), and decompiled it with the latest apktool. I altered the files as explained in the posts, and tried to recompile.
But that's where i got stuck. It didn't recompile. I can't get it working. Tried different versions of apktool, loaded framework-res.apk, but it keeps giving errors. It really is a bummer, i wanted to try it out and see if i could get the sync working again.
Does anybody have a clue how i can recompile my files again, or does anybody have another solution? Thanks in advance!
I did manage to add arrays.xml file into resources, and patch that smali file (but the spot was @ line 9319!?).
Here's the apk:
http://www.multiupload.com/EJXMTI2G3W
I haven't signed it, cause I don't know if it's needed for system APKs.
Try it, and sign it yourself if needed.
I used apktool to add arrays.xml into resources and baksmali/smali for smali.
And as always I picked the new files (resources.arsc and classes.dex) and replaced them manually into a copy of the original apk.
Hope it helps.
edit: Ahh, forgot to mention.
I took ContactsProvider.apk from Onecosmics 2.1 build but I guess they're the same!
Not running ICS, not using FB sync, so not tested at all.

Errr, no!?
First, you should try the APK I uploaded before, *UNTOUCHED*.
If that doesn't work, try this one which is signed.
Do not modify/touch/change any of them!

[Q] What allows an apk to be linked by link2sd?

I thought if I moved an apk from system/app to data/app it could be moved/linked by apps like link2sd, but that's apparently not all there is to it. Here's what I did
take ROM into DsiXDA kitchen
deodex
move maps.apk and street.apk from system/app to data/app
build ROM
And it does not seem to be movable... Is there some setting/attribute I must change in addition? While I'm at it - is there some relation to updating via the market? Is there a reason why these 'standards apps' should be system apps? Were they perhaps customized by HTC in some way? What if I simply removed them and installed them from the marker? Note that these 2 apps are just examples - the question is quite general.
Appreciate any help.

Why not just move them live with a root explorer?
You can move any non system critical app to /Data/app and link2sd no problem.

I don't understand. I do have root explorer but I don't follow. What do you mean 'move live'? It's also not so much the actual moving of a specific app I'm after, but the understanding.
And so it goes... this seemed like a simple question that anyone who has played around with this could easily answer I would have thought. E.g. by any of the folks that hang out in the developers' section... where one is not supposed to ask simple questions... catch 22!
