As the title says, after I flash to a rom, the rom basically acts as if the sd card is non existant. I can't access any of my existing apps, music, books, or anything on the sd card.
It's really quite frustrating as the stock gingerbread 2.3 is really annoying.
The exact rom I'm trying to flash to can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824925
I've also tried flashing to this rom, and encountered the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528024
I have flashed to this successfully, but it started giving me a "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" loop, basically rendering my kindle useless.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411895
If I restore my backup, my sdcard becomes functional again.
Is there any solution? If its a different rom that would work. All I need is a rom that's CM9 or CM10, that looks good, and is suitable for everyday use.
I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, here's what I do.
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Make a backup (already have one, so not nessicary)
3. Full System Wipe
4. Install the ROM.
5. Clear cache / davlik
6. Reboot system
Any and all help is appreciated!
When you say "full system wipe" you aren't wiping the sdcard as well are you?

No.
A system wipe is different from a sdcard wipe.
Full system wipe implies wiping the /data and /system folders.
Nothing on the sdcard is ever touched.
Please help me with this!
:crying:
I have the same problem too I wish that hashcode finds a solution rapidly
Thanks in Advance

sd card
Sounds like its most likely your SD card. Backup everything off it onto computer, then format it, get rid of all partitions for eg. App2sd just to be safe, then put update file on SD card again, full phone wipe, dalvik cache wipe, and you should be ok. Mess about with app2sd once your bit more experienced.

Are you new to flashing custom roms? the first boot can take a while fyi
do a full wipe and wipe the dalvik cache before you flash the 3.3 rom
it must be that you didnt flash it properly, the 3.3 rom boots without problems on the hero
wipe/factory reset
wipe dalvik
wipe/factory rest
off
boot recovery
flash
reboot
setup
reboot
done!

Nope... I'm not new to flashing ROM. Almost flash to the level where I need to in an Anonymous Flash-oholics group.
I did do a full wipe and wipe the dalvik cache before I flashed the 3.3 rom.
I also re-flashed, tryed wipeing before and after, wiped the dalvik cache before and after...
The reason I do not have a ext part on my SD is, that I do not install so many applications, that I run out of space. And the speed of the internal mem is alot faster.
For keeping my apps between flashs, I find titanium back to be the best solution.
Is a ext part need to run the 3.3? I ran almost all the other villain rom version, without a ext part.

Hey,
I also have problems installing 3.3 ROM. I have a running 3.2 VillainROM but 3.3 will just not install! I did factory/ rest wipe + Davlik wipe but stuck @ bootscreen again! I do have a ext3 (or 2) partition which I did not flash, but the installing of 3.2 worked fine so I guess its a problem with 3.3...
Hello everyone,
after more then 2 years with my trusted N1 i finally had to move to a new phone because i broke the screen of my old one.
having the GN now for allmost a week, and within the first few hours of owning the device it got 3 OTA updates and is now at 4.1.1. i am quite happy with it but 2 days ago i startet messing around wiht it. so i ulocked the boodloader and rooted and got myself franco kernel on the GN.
as expected everything worked fine.
today i wantet to give some 3th party roms a try. i tried installing MIUI and euroskanks cm10. both with rom manager.
but on each of them i got in a bootloop after flashing, just showing the franco kernel boot animation.
i flashed both roms without wiping the data (just the cache)
i suspect that is my problem.
i am a little bit scared about the wipe data option for flashing new roms. on my N1 it worked fine since all my files on the sd card where not touched and i could get started allmost immediantly.
unlocking the bootloader of the GN wiped everything out off my phone and i had to copy it all back from a backup.
if i choose wipe data will that also (again) wipe my complete device or just the "OS part" and leave my data alone?
if it wipes everything how do i avoid having to make a backup of my data and restore it afterwards after each and every rom i flash?
i have noted the mnt/sdcard folder on my GN that (apparently) just links back to the root of the memory. what is the puropse of this folder? just to be compatible with "old" apps that insist on writing files to the SD-card or something else?
thanks for the info
no data from sdcard gets removed.
its basically a "NON REMOVABLE sdcard"... think of it that way.

1. It will wipe your "OS part" + apps. Will leave data in "sdcard" alone. Factory Wipe clears the virtual "sdcard"
2. Can't be avoided, I use Wugfresh's toolkit to make app backups a breeze. Takes a little more time than it used to when I had my OG Droid with a EXT partition but hey, at least you'll always have a current backup of your apps.
3. Yes. It'd actually be less obvious it's still called /sdcard/ if you weren't rooted and poking around . I believe JB switches this to sdcard0 now to account for devices that have external sdcards to be mounted as /sdcard1 and so on.
Ok, I guess I get it.
Just one more thing to make sure.
It looks like all my files are in the root of my phone and mnt/sdcard has just one folder but with the same files as the folder with the same name in my root.
When I wipe data now will it keep everything or just the files in my mnt/sdcard folder?

Custom recovery (AKA not CWM or TWRP or whatever you're using) will wipe your SD card. Just remember that.
All the custom recoveries wipe /data/ while keeping /data/media/ (your sd card).
Nothing on your "SDcard" will be lost.
I'm in the same situation as the original poster and would like a "definitive" answer. CWM has both a factory reset and a format /data option (in a separate submenu). Which preserve the content of the virtual sdcard ? Which is the raccomended way to try out a JB rom? I have 10+ Gb of data in the sdcard and i would like to avoid moving everything forth and back via MTP protocol...
Thanks

IF you are using CWM recovery, "wiping data" will erase the entire userdata partition EXCLUDING /sdcard. This means that everything under /data (except /data/media which = /sdcard) will be erased. This includes all apps you have installed in /data, and most data for those apps.
IF you are using a stock recovery, "wiping data" or "factory reset, will wipe the entire userdata partition, including /sdcard.
Wiping data or factory restore/reset/whatever does NOT touch the system partition or return the device to "factory condition". So if you have installed apps in /system or have root, the will still be there.
Hi there,
I recently put mildwild CM7 on my HTC Desire (had a thread for this).
It didn't help getting rid of big boot problems (sudden reboots, bootloops....mostly after a reboot/bootloop, the device is stuck at HTC Logo).
I assume hardware malfunction, but would like to try a full wipe and another SD-Card.
Therefor I need help. Using 4ext, I read in this thread that I need to:
wipe data / factory reset
wipe cache partition
advanced > wipe dalvik cache
advanced > wipe battery stats
Also, I want to use a new SD-Card (8GB). I have no clue how to do that and of course not, in what sequence.
At last, I have a more theoretical/abstract question on a different toppic:
when I succesfully installed the mildwild CM7 Custom ROM, can I delete the two zip-Folder (part1 and part 2) of the ROM on my SD-Card or do I have to keep them there?
No doubt, I'm a noob
thx in advance!
Yea, you can delete the rom zip after you installed it.
sounds like maybe a problem with ext partition rather than hardware......Use GParted on pc to create your fat32 and ext partition on new card, then stick the rom on ur new card, new card into desire, full wipe desire, install rom, delete zip files of rom if you wish
Hey,
I was using WanamLite 4.3 ROM with Android 4.3 and MJ5 bootloader. No backups.
And after a friend of mine broke my SD slot (long story), my phone started to reboot and unmount the SD card, then it broke up completely and I can't use a SD card anymore. So, I kept using my phone without it, until one day it rebooted and when it came back I lost all Deezer syncronized musics, Evernote notes, SMS and things like that. The other day, it reboot again and now it was like a factory reset, I lost all configs and just the installed apps and pictures wasn't lost.
But my phone was crazy, home button not working, no notifications, status bar not working and lots of other things, then I opened the Downloads app and I received an error and then everything came back to normal, really strange, but I started to receive two annoying errors:
The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
The process android.process.media has stopped
And anything related to Google or media was useable, and they kept appearing while I pressed ok.
So, I did a mega wipe (script found here, can't post links) and installed a 4.4 Rom (PhoeniX ROM), but, guess what, received a "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable.", hit "I'm feeling lucky" button and my two friends started to annoy me to hell again.
What can I do? I thought on doing a Kies factory reset but I'm scared of bricking my phone (it tells me to use Kies 3, btw), my phone is unuseable. :crying:
(Edit: Just noticed you said you mega wiped...)
So how about flashing kitkat through odin? Sammobile.com

Yeah, I'll try that, but I don't have much hope, is there a way to do a "deeper" wipe, that totally deletes any ROM, then I install that from nothing.
You'll lose all data but you should wipe
/system, /data (factory reset), /cache and dalvik cache. I have also once found an internal storage (/sdcard) necessary.
What I would do to fix all the problems,
Using TWRP recovery, I format disk and wipe everything can be wiped. (Ofc you'll lose ALL the data on the phone, which might be the problem as you don't have an SD card, unless after wipe you know how to transfer files from PC while in recovery) This is the best wipe you would get IMO. Then install a very stable rom like ARHD or omega rom . Or DN3

THANK YOU!!!!!
It worked, I never used TWRP, really awesome. I was getting errors when trying to format system, so I went to config and select the option to use rm -f instead of formatting, and after that work, I formatted everything and installed DN3. Thanks a lot, really!
I have watched a lot of tutorials but nothing is working please someone help
I made a video of the problem and what I tried. Can anyone understand what happened
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaN-y-Worlg
Update: In Data i Changed the file system and went back to original. Didn't work.
I even wiped system. But i guess the only problem is to fix the "data". Since it shows 0 Mb size. But i can't find any way or guide. The ones i did find are too advanced and use cmd commands and toolkits which i don't think an inexperienced user like me should be following.
Some background information: i attempted to install Open gApps and enable Camera2 API. I Entered "read only" mode.
The adb shell commands for enabling it wasn't working (some "proprietary" something shown )
So I tried another method. I downloaded the latest Magisk and flashed it. Then i tried gApps. I don't remember when i started to think what went wrong but yeah..
I found this and I think it may be related.
But I don't understand it properly.
And its and Old post for some other Recovery

Why did you wipe internal storage? And what are you trying to mount. If you are trying to install a new rom all you need to wipe is cache, dalvik, system and data. Wiping internal storage removes everything from the internal SD card and if you do this then you have no OS.

At this point i can't care less about the data in internal storage. I just need to flash the official MIUI ROM back, enable Camera2 API and live in peace. At this moment I'm halfway through downloading the ROM but I'm not sure if i can flash it due to the Mount Issue of internal storage. I plan on transferring it to my micro SD card and flashing it from there to System Image. Will it work? And Internal Storage formatting failed in case you didn't notice. Practically nothing worked except the file system change of "data". And even that didn't fix the unable to Mount issue.
