I changed this into a my progress thread. I have verizon and insurance.
I tested everything on the phone over a 24hr period. And here is progress.
Still using phone 2 as of now.
Phone 1 - random reboots.
Phone 2 - proximity sensor failure, vertical banding
Phone 3 - 2-3 screen purple, loses full signal and data then comes back. Few times a day. Basically like a ping out. Timeout. Whatever.
Phone 4 - coming tomorrow 8-15 maybe this one will be good!
Phone four is good so far! No data drops. Good screen. Korean model.

okay so i have verizon, i went back stock to warranty my phone locked it back up and everything, called verizon and they are sending a refurb to my house overnight.
question is, i'm ocd about my phones, they say its a refurb and they don't know if its been used and has gone over a 100 point inspection. but has the screen ever been touched and such? scratched etc.??
im sending back because i have issues with proximity sensor in the phone and defect screen.
this is going to be my third replacement, my second however i did within the 14 days of buying the phone so they gave me a new one off the shelf.

I have had 3 replacements. All looked new! No scratches just a little dust hahah. Had to send two back due to weak signal and loss of data. My third one works fine!

I've had 14 replacements. I've had only one that didn't look brand new and that was due to the protectors shifting when it shipped. They are pristine when you get them.

I got my phone replaced once for screen ghosting. I'm almost certain this "refurb" is BRAND NEW. They even re-apply the oliophobic coat. I'm very pleased with Verizons return department and I'm pretty sure the lemons people got weren't verizons fault.

whats this coat your talking about?
my first replacement was within the 14 day period, my phone was randomly rebooting every day.
this is going to be my third nexus, this time proximity sensor doesn't function even after recalibration and such.
i'm just worried that i'm going to get a phone worse off then my current. since there are so many bad ones out there, and i've heard of horror stories of refurb nexus's on youtube and such.
I would trust a refurb from Verizon over a new unit. They're all tested thoroughly and any parts replaced are new...
You would think that however there are tons of people who go through more then four replacements trying to get a good one from Verizon. There are videos of un boxing and having issues from first power on.

Edit. Only thing I can find is sometimes radio timeout. I'm on jelly bean. And it'll say full service and 4G or whatever and then ill try to do something with Internet and ill lose service completely timeout and it'll reconnect.
Is this normal? Gonna test it for another day before I return.

when one reports to Verizon about a fault in the phone and they send you a refurb/recertified phone, do I send them my current phone first or I can just sit on it and ask for a replacement and just walk to a verizon store and return there?

You have 5 days or so to ship the faulty phone back upon receiving your new phone. They pay for the shipping both ways. If it is faulty just tell them you have already wiped data etc....battery pull blah blah blah so they don't make u do it and you aren't tied up on the phone. So glad I pay the $6.99 for TEC from asurion on both my lines. This process the few times I have had to do it is relatively painless.

90% of warranty exchanges are garbage.
I am having issues with my screen. I have a yellow tint on the complete left side which is driving me nuts. I have read online of people exchanging their phones up to 4 times and having similar issues with their current device. Is it even worth exchanging, or should I just be happy with what I have? I don't want to have a messed up screen, but I don't want to go through the process of exchanging the phone multiple times. I just rooted the phone, transferred files, etc.
If you guys could tell me how many times you exchanged or if it is even worth it, please let me know.

I would say get it replaced b4 the return period ... because you'll be looking at the screen everytime you use the device and is it's main feature/selling point get it replaced , yes it's a hassle but you'll end up with a better phone with potentially no screen flaws =)

it seems like it's the screen panel itself that is having a issue. This happened to few other people too. Flashing custom kernel can't help that
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
Ok just thought I would suggest in hopes of a quick fix
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yes I have tried the trinity kernel. I used the dead pixel fixer and ran the colors over night and that helped a little bit. If you use the phone at 100% brightness all of the time that helps a little too.

Why do you have problems with yours too? I have talked to people with the GSM version and I don't know if they have different technology or what, but I have seen people switch out their phones up to 5 times with CDMA versions. If it gets any worse I'm gonna switch it out, but I honestly love this phone way more than any other Android. Screw Sense and TouchWiz.

All Note 2's are made in a more or less same way. How many times did you have to Exchange Your Note 2 with a new one as a result of manufacturing defects?
If you had to exchange (replace), explain.
Thanks
Once. I received a white one when I requested gray. After 2 weeks with the white, I returned it and requested the gray.
I have returned a few for quality issues with the bezel.
Had 1 return for the center button real loose and unresponsive. This one is perfect!

I haven't exchanged mine, but I've noticed that my home button has gotten really "clicky" lately. It still works fine, but it makes a sporadic clicking noise now & its kind of wiggly. If it gets any worse, I may have to exchange it. I hope I don't have to though, after the nightmare I went through with my Transformer I'm sick of exchanging electronics. *fingers crossed*
I had to do an exchange once for a screen quality issue. But so far this new one is good.
the only time i exchanged a phone in recent years was with the Galaxy S1 because of it's crappy GPS. Ofcourse changing it didn't help.
Those that did an exchange; what was your experience like? Was it with TMobile over the phone or store?

Yea I guess you're right . out of 5 million sold I saw maybe 2-3 on here and even a couple of those were rooted roms
I have not had any issues as of yet. The only thing is a piece of the plastic chrome by the power button has come off. Not sure if its worth replacement. I also do not know if I could still do an instore exchange as ive had the phone for almost 2 mos now. Maybe it would be worth looking into as its just the one spot and the rest of the phone seems to be flawless. Id just be nervous about getting a refurb back.
I am also not happy thatthey did not have screen protectors when I got mine, so I have scratches on the top of the screen, but hidden by my current screen protector
Original one had a blue color kinda burt into screen about half an inch long.
Exchanged mine 12 timea
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.
Lol, Merry Christmas.
I must say there are definitely some quality variations between the carrier-branded Note 2's and international Note 2's. I wonder why...

Obviously burn in sucks but in this use it seems to be what I need. Recently I decided to use expanded desktop and notice my status bar plus navbar are burnt in.. But out of the strange the burn in has in fact made the screen show true white or whatever you want to call the horrible screen for the nexus too.
Basically is it possible to burn in the entire screen? I was thinking about pushing a black screen on full brightness for about a day. I've got use to the nexus screen but still it would be nice to have a working color screen.
Has anyone else tried this? Have you noticed this? Did it take long for the burn in? Does it repair itself?

Screen burn. Typical on Super AMOLEDs.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
Yet another reason to use extended desktop mode ALL THE TIME.
W/an PIE control.
Eg:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrolpro
Try this, hit button Repair, but for about 30 seconds max (there is a risk of invert burn), then check burn again. In case repeat process.
It helped little for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bengigi.screen.diagnostic&hl=cs
Are you sure that he needs only 30 seconds to repair the display?
People says that you have to leave it on for about 8-9 hours..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I left it for 2 minutes and I had burned icons, insted of bluish bar.
You can repeat this process, but I do not recommend leave it 8 hours.
I am not sure about the time, try it yourself, but watch out, you can make it even worse.
Maybe using expanded desktop for plenty of weeks would make better job.
Nah, been using expanded desktop for months now and it's not going away. I think the blue burns out faster than the other colors on this screen and that's why it looks bluish compared to the rest of the screen - the blue on the rest of the screen has dimmed over time while the edges have a stronger blue since it's not been used as much. I'm definitely going to avoid AMOLED in the future.
About AMOLED you are right, but every "better" screen than simple TFT is avoidable. ISP on my N7 after year and half is getting yellowish tint around edges... On my old Optimus One was display same after 2 years of usage.
Both devices are still under warranty, so I request for screen replacement, but what about future? I dont want to pay for new display every year...
I think that the pixels on amoled displays starts burning beacuse the pixel on the navbar and statusbar are permanently black..so they aren't used and they don't start damaging..the color that the amoled starts to show by far is yellow...so if we leave screen during night showing a yellow image, the screen comes back to the original colors??
P.s.: sorry for my bad english

In Malaysia, I could. Had to convince Samsung that my screen is bad. I basically showed them a couple of pictures (one of them being Browser's error page) and my phone was full with horizontal gray lines. Then the customer service counter asked me to send those pictures to her phone and she saw it was perfect on her phone. Then she allowed my phone to have a screen replacement.
I had screen replacements twice for my phone. And it took a few days to a week to have the screen replaced but that depends on your luck and country I guess.

If 100% transparent it definitely will reduce the probability of burn-in in these areas.
