So theres different versions of this kernel?... theres one in the jellybomb domination rom for the evo 4g lte
This kernel is specifically for the sprint galaxy s3.
Kernels are to phones as shoes are to people
Yes, they have similarities, but each is specific to the phone

Hello, I currently have the Bell Canada SGS3.
I was thinking about trying some different kernels out for my device, but I wanted to be sure I had a backup of the STOCK KERNEL in case I want to revert back to STOCK. Is there a way I can extract it from my phone, or has someone posted it already, I couldn't seem to find the a post when looking.
Thank you

I've been playing with a few of the kernels available for 4.2.x so far and wanted to get back to the stock kernel in between testing kernels out. Also good for those who may have accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel. This is a flashable CWM 4.2 Galaxy Nexus JOP40C kernel. Tested and working on my stock/rooted 4.2/4.2.1 GNex. As always, flash at your own risk.
Thanks to kalo86 for providing the AOSP ROM 4.2 zip where the boot image came from. :good:

Thank you. This is definitely very helpful for people like me who aren't aware that custom kernel wouldn't be backwards compatible.
However, I'm using nexus 7, just wondering how could I extract the stock kernel from the nexus 7 factory image?
(I understand that this isn't a nexus 7 post but I'm just asking a general question on how to get the stock kernel hope that's ok)
I assume this kernel wouldn't work for my device either?
Thanks in advance.

Good question. I will create a stock kernel flash for the Nexus 7 (as I have one as well) and post it up there in the N7 XDA forum.
Also, the kernel is the boot.img file located in the zip for ROMs. You can fastboot install it, or make it into a CWM file which is good in case you don't have a computer with ADB nearby. Link to N7 Stock kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34254473
Thanks!
Thank you for ur reply. Definitely gonna save me lots of time!
How do you make it a cwm file? Just zipping the .img file?
Also, I can't seems to boot into cwm recovery without a toolkit is that normal for installing an incorrect custom kernel?

Boot up holding all the buttons to get into recovery. Then flash.
Google for the cyanogenmod walkthrough on how to make a kernel flash. Its a bit in depth for here. Good luck!

Not sure actually. Hopefully someone can test it out as I no longer have a GNex.

The title of this thread states 4.2/4.21, so my guess would be no on 4.1.2
Hey guys I just thought I would share that I have successfully flashed both AT&T Rom along with a Verizon Rom (JellyBeans 9). I know the AT&T one is a little more known however I couldnt find one to do with Verizon. So all you have to do is download the Rom of your choice and flash it, then you have to flash the Tmobile Modem and you should be set to go! Hope this helps some people as I contemplated flashing a Verizon Rom on my Note 2. I have also tried International Roms with no luck sadly. This is a community based thread and I couldnt do it without some of the help from you guys, everyone deserves the "Thanks" I get!
Find stock Modem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
Caution: This is not an official guide its just something I have found after flashing some ROMs I personally THINK MAJORITY of the ROMs should work but I take no responsibility for bricks.
I am going to start a list of Confirmed Roms if you have a Rom from a different carrier then please tell me and I will update the list, Thanks!

Yes it works I started a thread about this a week ago in general forum. Flash rom then kernel and modem for tmobile. If you download a rom that doesn't give you data, once you flash rom and its booted up, turn on wifi and go to market to download hiapn and itll help restore apn settings giving you data again. Every rom ive tried has workes. Verizon, tmobile, sprint, and at&t.

Sorry I just want to make sure I understand this. So we download any kernel for the t-mobile note 2 and the modem. Then download an AT&T rom and flash it with the kernel and modem?

No need. The kernel goes with the ROM.
All you should need is the modem.
Yeah no need to flash a different Kernel.

And what benefit do we get from doing this over a T-mobile ROM? Will Wi-Fi/usb tethering work?

This is frgin awesome news. I wondered if this was possible but was to afraid to try and didnt want to ask. Thanks. Soo just to be sure you can flash "any" verizon or att note 2 rom. Just as long as you flash the tmobile modem and you will be set? No brick and no problems? Of course except known issues?

I tried jelly beans rom which was pretty good just didn't like battery life. I'm now on a AT&T ROM right now which is cleanrom I'm staying on this one for awhile.
Just wanted to say you really shouldn't even need to flash a modem unless the rom your wanting to flash contains a modem. If the rom contains a modem then you'll need to flash a T-Mobile modem otherwise you will still have the same modem you had before flashing.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 2 , Sprint Edition
Current Rom: Goodness Noteworthy v. 1.0.6
Base band/Radio: Stock L900VPMAC2
Kernel:3.0.36 Perseus Alpha 35
My question is, will my modem be compatible to ASOP roms ? I am interested in trying the sprint jelly bomb rom v.21.
If my modem is not compatible where can I obtain the right one?
Thanks for your help.
