My new Nexus has this bluish tint to the whites when not looking at the screen straight. I also noticed the same thing on a galaxy s2 over this weekend at the T-Mobile store. Is this a common thing on this phone and does anyone else have this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yes it is there since the original Galaxy S.
It's AMOLED, not LCD. I mean it's the screen technology that's producing that output, not the phone or something else. Google it, because it's a generic "problem".
OK, the reason why I asked thus is because I still have like 2 days to report anything defective with my phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It's normal. N1, SGS2 are like this too
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
It's a very common "issue", my GSII suffers from the same defect, but I can say that not all screens have the same degree of bluish when tilted (I've seen a few GSII that has quite no bluish at all).
Some says that it's the display coating, don't know for sure, I suggest you to check other GN (if you can, of course) and evaluate yourselt if your is more or less bluish that others
I have a friend wants trade me his white unlocked white s2 for my galaxy nexus. Just curious what you guys think. I really my nexus but the white s2 looks good

Depends, hardware is better, but development is going to be slow and not as great in the long run. It really c;mes down to software or hardware, personally I will never buy anything not called a Nexus. But, it is your decision.

Agreed however they are scheduled for an OTA ICS this week ( T-Mobile) which should speed up development. I myself come from the White S2 and I must admit I like my GN much more. Its a sleek sexy phone, not to mention the pure android experience, something you can get a taste of but not the full experience on the S2

The Nexus is like a Galaxy S2½. So, there should be something else added to the trade. Maybe GS2 + US$100 = GNex.
Nope. Wouldn't suggest it.

Because it's white? Get a white case if you want that color. Your getting a lesser phone if you trade.

I think its a better phone but its software is less. Nowhere near the same dev support or official support. If history repeats itself the s2 will only get one major update. I doubt it will ever see anything past ics.

Yeah thinking about it its a aweful idea mostly for the reason above unless u want to update your phone soon again lol

I think I'm going keep my gn I really like it I don't know much on the s2 just that it looks cool. I know I can do white case lol I like the white housing but then I need a case for the s2 anyways to protect it so I have put white case on s2 so I will looking into and find a nice white case for my gn

Don't get it. As a fellow Kitchener dude (that doesn't matter, though) believe me, you won't like an S2. I've used one, and I prefer my current GNex. The screen on the S2 feels like a step down despite being non-pentile, due to the low resolution. Also, TouchWiz is horrid. There are so many minor things at which the GNex is a better choice.
1) Dev support
2) Timely updates
3) Better screen
4) Better design (curved)
5) Stock
6) Better battery life
7) NFC
8) On-screen buttons
9) Better performance (TouchWiz on ICS takes up more RAM than stock launcher, etc)
10) No stupid carrier bloatware
11) No Samsung Kies
You've already made the decision, so I'm just adding this here in case you had second thoughts.

Has anyone recently gotten a new Nexus without the problems with the screen such as the purple tint, banding, inaccurate colors and grainy whites? Apparently if you get one with a serial number of C5 or higher there is a very good chance you will get one with a goof screen.

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol

I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
got the white housing for the gnex and decide to buy the white matte screen protector
http://www.chinagadgetland.com/middle-cover-for-samsung-galaxy-nexus-i9250-white-p-10006362.html
housing from chinabudgetland.com cost $29.50. Everything was great and was easy to install. Only con is that it doesn't come with white button. But i manage to get a huge discount from the owner and ended up paying only $17.50 for the housing and shipping with tracking number. Came in every nice packing and lots of bubble wrap.

the Gnex color screen protector cost $8.88 with free shipping took only 8 day to ship from south korea. Seller sold 35 so i taught it was a trusted seller. Everything was great except the fact that it abit smaller that the screen. But it look pretty nice.

The amoled is fused to the glass so its impossible to replace the glass without also replacing the amoled, which is why there are no third party digitizers.
No I really wish they made a white digitizer. I would make a full white gnex if they did.

Thanks for the pics but I dont think there ever will be a white digitizer. The market is so small for that plus it would have to come with a very expensive lcd screen that just isnt cost feasable. I cant find any surveys but a $250 digitizer is just crazy when a brand new phone costs 350+tax, with the costs surely to drop as time passes. Stickers are our only hope until Fantom decides to release a white glass screen protector which I dont think is very likely. Istyles and skinit are 2 other websites that sell custom vinyl stickers and attached a couple of pics that I found from other threads. A black front on top of an all white body isnt too bad though and have thought about ordering vinyl stickers but am sure I will just rip them off after a day or two of having it on.
I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem... The white area where my music controls are has burned in.. I am running a fixer now but it is kind of annoying seeing music controls on everything.

What???? The water indicators have little red X's on them, which smear when they contact water or high moisture. What would white out do?
Edit: and for future reference, is there a place to purchase these stickers? I've read a few other products that had their water indicators tripped for no apparent reason (MacBooks... but I don't own one!)
Edit 2: there are a bunch of housings on eBay that come with the water indicators. Perhaps you could try those if you don't mind dis/re-assembling. BTW, are there any other warranty indicators on this phone besides the water stickers?

almost all AMOLED panels have burn-in issue. its a big issue here in Korea.
There definetively are som issues with the screen. After making my GN 'fullscreen' I noticed the black area where the softkeys used to be is having a more bluish hue. I believe this is to the rest of the screen aging differently because of the screentype AMOLED (super). Taking this into account it wouldnt surprise me if the screen is getting burnins etc
