My new Nexus has this bluish tint to the whites when not looking at the screen straight. I also noticed the same thing on a galaxy s2 over this weekend at the T-Mobile store. Is this a common thing on this phone and does anyone else have this?

Yes it is there since the original Galaxy S.
It's AMOLED, not LCD. I mean it's the screen technology that's producing that output, not the phone or something else. Google it, because it's a generic "problem".
OK, the reason why I asked thus is because I still have like 2 days to report anything defective with my phone.

It's normal. N1, SGS2 are like this too

It's a very common "issue", my GSII suffers from the same defect, but I can say that not all screens have the same degree of bluish when tilted (I've seen a few GSII that has quite no bluish at all).
Some says that it's the display coating, don't know for sure, I suggest you to check other GN (if you can, of course) and evaluate yourselt if your is more or less bluish that others

Hi. I ordered a galaxy nexus for my brother from expansys and received it today. The screen on it is not nearly as good as the one on my own device. The colors are really washed out and the greys are green. It seems like the gamma is really turned up. I rooted and flashed aokp and tried adjusting the colors and gamma but if you try lowering the green gamma settings, the whole screen turns green. Is there anything I can do? If not, Does anyone have any experience doing exchanges with expansys? I'll unroot and relock the phone of course. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the replies. I'll contact them. Did any of you buy one from expansys? Just want to know how they are with this stuff

i would definitely try to exchange it, if you can't then use a kernel with gamma control such as leankernel or glados (which i'm currently using), adjustable by editing sys/devices/platform/omapdss/manager0/gamma
mine has the washed out screen issue and editing gamma to 7 or higher makes it much better looking, but not perfect (still a lot of purple at low brightness)
Please refer to the defective screen sticky in the Q&A section, that can be found here, or one of the other threads in the General section already discussing screen defects.
Has anyone recently gotten a new Nexus without the problems with the screen such as the purple tint, banding, inaccurate colors and grainy whites? I just got an S3 and the screen is definitely better than that of my old Nexus but I'm thinking of going back to the Nexus but I prefer the phone with a better screen lol.

People who just got their Nexus immediately after the ban have been receiving theirs today and all of them had great screens, based on their feedback on the thread

My replacement phone from January is perfect. I am aware thats the luck of the draw though, considering my wife's phone is definitely NOT perfect.
My replacement Nexus (2 weeks old) is perfect. I can't believe I went that long with a bad nexus.

Lol funny guy
So basically the screens they are using in the recent Nexus phones are better? No purple tint? Banding? Grainy whites on low brightness?

Apparently if you get one with a serial number of C5 or higher there is a very good chance you will get one with a goof screen.

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol

I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
Guys look at the pic.when i watch video i am always getting these black spots. They appear only in black scenes.Look at the girls hair.how to fix it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Problems with the panel itself aren't going to show up in a screenshot...
Lots of people notice/complain about these spots though, ever since the phone came out. Its just part of the inconsistency of manufacturing AMOLED screens. Some panels are worse than others. If it bothers you enough, ask for a warranty replacement.
the worse part of this phone..wtf!!

is this a common issue among the nexus? is it serious?
I cannot see what you mean, but I never understood why people complain about the screen of their gnex. Either I have a screen from a good batch, or I'm just not noticing what others refer to.

Common on any phone with an AMOLED screen. There are inconsistencies like banding, ghosting, blotchiness, etc.. Is it serious? Depends how picky you are.
It's common...
Mine looks like a severe case of chicken pox. Also have a terrible yellow screen, but ever since I installed a screen protector it seems to have fixed some of the coloring.

Yeah I have this black dots. It bugs me way too much. And i don't understand this since blacks should be black.

So i just bought a used galaxy nexus and have been using for a little while and i keep noticing that it looks the stock arrangement of apps on the home screen are liked burned into the screen. Like i can see them everywhere i can go and more depending on what color the screen is at. Its not software because i booted into CWM and i could seem them. Is this a defect? Or just the nature of the phone? I have tried to take some pictures but they didn't turn out to great......
Here is a link to the high quality version of the picture https://www.box.com/s/bv84z7gu0dsltgzorevi
Normal good sir.
Pretty much any used Galaxy Nexus will have some burn-in, as the display is AMOLED. Happens with all of our Galaxy Nexuses, I guess we kind of just accept it though. lol
The way the Nav Bar sits, we all will probably have it burned in sooner or later, many already have it...
Just as well, look at a black background with the display on and you'll see blotches on the screen, also normal. There's actually a sticky here about what's normal and what's not.

Go to LCD TEST *#0*#
post your results here
A bunch of Verizon Note 2's have the AMOLED issue, any AT&T customer have it?
i have the blotches it as well :\
sucks that its defective, gonna have to go and exchange it for another
I have a problem with it in dim mode, I can see it flicker (refresh rate) it seems to me that they reduce the refresh rate to control the brightness, it causes a strobe effect. I just leave mine at the brightness that I stop seeing the strobe.
^^^ doesn't sound normal to me
try disabling auto-brightness
I have the blob thing on my screen! This person is NOT trolling.. I have no idea how to fix this and am despretley looking for a fix.. It's like a 1 inch dark blob visible at night with brightness all the way down.. ANNOYING when reading articles late at night. Anyone know any fixes?

I had the issue with blobs and lines on my Skyrocket screen, but don't see the same on my Note 2.
I exchanged my first Skyrocket because of it and the second had the same issue so I just settled.
Called At&t and just received my replacement phone. Its Perfect
