does anyone use there s III on straight talk?? please help??? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

i am trying to order the micro sim from straight talk, but my only option is to get the micro sim in unlocked GSM phone which is a ATT service sim. is this the way to get it to work? will all the features work with the phone?

I'm using this phone on Straight Talk with the AT&T micro SIM. The phone has to be unlocked first, but you will get HSPA+ from AT&T. I get about average of 5Mbps down and about 1-2Mbps up. However, I do have some issue where the connection seems finicky and it happens way too frequently. From the settings screen, it looks like it keep cycling between UMTS, HSPA, and HSPAP over and over I know there's a radio update out but I haven't tried it.
Or you could order the full size T-Mobile SIM and cut it down. No need to unlock.
BETTER YET, order a SIMPLE MOBILE microSIM (maybe a dollar on ebay) and use with their $50 plan. They run off of Tmobile so no need to unlock either, and the $50 plan also includes international texting and $5 long distance credit. Also, no tax so flat $50 vs Straight Talk's $45+tax bringing it close to 50.
---------- Post added at 10:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 AM ----------
Also, the cost of the SIM is cheaper. Like I said, you can find Simple Mobile SIM on ebay for $1, whereas you can only order Straight Talk SIM on their site for $15.
Where ordering a SIMPLE Mobile SIM, make sure it's an actual micro SIM and not just cut down.

[Q] Prepaid Sim for holiday to US

Taking my HTC One X (unlocked) to the US on holiday for 3 weeks, can I get a prepaid micro sim & does anyone recommend one ?
You can get a prepaid sim for AT&T at Best Buy or straight talk at Walmart. Either will work, but straight talk uses AT&T as well as T-Mobile so if you get a T-Mobile one you will only get 2G. In terms of Microsim you will have to have someone at an AT&T or T-Mobile store to cut the sim for you because prepaid sims are full size.

I would recommend the Straight Talk from walmart, but I haven't tried seeing if they sell sims in the store. Thought they were online only.
I've had great success with the T-Mobile USA PAYG SIMS from SIM Card Guru - takes a week or so for delivery. They'll even ship it pre-cut to micro-SIM size.
Prepaid SIMs
Straight Talk offers a micro sim but it is only available online. You can choose either AT&T or T-mobile (I have the AT&T flavor). I have found their service to be very reliable. Good luck!

[Q] Unlocking Rogers, Bell Canada phones for AT&T

From this Wikipedia list...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III
...it appears that both Rogers and Bell in Canada are offering a SGH-I747 Samsung GS3 which is listed as the same variant as AT&T. However, they are offering internal 32GB models and AT&T is not, and that's what I want. I'm current using an iPhone 4S 64GB and I want to be able to swap sim cards back and forth between phones. Yes, I know I can get a 64GB microSD card but I want 96Gb on the phone (I don't want to argue this point).
So I have a few questions:
1) If I get a Rogers or Bell phone without contract and manage to unlock it, will it be fully compatable with the AT&T network just by swapping sims cards with the iPhone?
2) Will it work with AT&T LTE as well as 3G / Edge, both cell and data?
3) Does unlocking companies like cellunlocker.net actually WORK? Is this legal?
Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.
Tony
The Bell. Rogers, Telus have the same hardware as the AT&t phone other than the sofware, rom and modem is a little different. I have used AT&T phone here in Canada without issues. The only problem, right now for at least the first month, they will not sell you a phone outright, either new contract or as a upgraded only.
---------- Post added at 08:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ----------
Also it is legal to unlock your phone and you can get the sim unlock codes from companies like cellular unlock.

Hola
I will step in here and say you are presently incorrect about not being able to buy this phone outright. I bought it at a local Bell Canada store (32gb) and no regrets yet.
That being said Bell is the only carrier that is allowing this at the moment. But do note buying the phone outright online is not possible which is an obvious limitation if you can't visit a local store.

Bought mine straight out at a Rogers Store in Ottawa. Walked in bought it and popped my sim in when I got to my car.

I have same problem.
I'll take the opportunity to note that Telus also sells the phone outright; you may have to get it directly from them, though.
You can just go buy the phone out right wherever you want I walked into futureshop bought a Rogers s3 then took it to my buddy who works at a cell repair shop and he unlocked it for me. Money is money whoever says it can't be done is flat out lying

[Q] GoPhone... Will a Glide work?

It seems that the Glide is only an AT&T-branded phone. Has anyone used one with GoPhone? Thought about picking up an unlocked one on eBay but I don't want to encounter the same "Invalid SIM card" issue I encounter when I put my GoPhone SIM card into my unlocked AT&T-sourced Skyrocket. Thanks for any info!
I can't say for certain, but I don't see why not. I use my phone with the T-Mobile monthly 4g plan and everything works fine. I do however, only have an EDGE/2g speed data wise due to the frequencies, but the phone was designed for AT&T so that wouldn't be a problem for you.

Appreciate the reply, narume. I think that the issue arises from this:
trinikartel said:
Let me know if you ever get that working.
What i THINK is that any phone that comes out of AT&T's clutches are in their system (both imei and with carrier iq) so once it you pop a sim into it and the information is matched to a device in their system they know what can and can't be allowed for the device. With international devices they don't have those IMEIs (which is why they always want the imei from you so they can match it in their system)
Your note is international...they can't "match or track it" so to their system it's just another random dumb phone
Your skyrocket is a known LTE/HSPA+ device to the system so it says no cheap data for you

So...assuming that this reasoning is correct, if AT&T knows that it's their phone they will have blocked its IMEI from being able to access data through GoPhone. And I would need 3G access in order to use it on my MicroCell. Anybody...?
Any at&t phones will work on go phone, and you can use a microcell as well, your phone still uses the 3/4G signal to connect for calls and texts. Also to get data to work for pictures, and mms you just need to call them and they will send you the apns, my nephew in law has an atrix 2 on a microcell with pic messaging working great. They also have a solstice 2 (dump phone) on the microcell, both go phones.

If you're getting Invalid SIM, you may have a locked SIM card, something AT&T started doing with their prepaid a while back. New prepaid accounts have the SIM locked to the phone it was purchased with for ~3 months, after that I believe you have to either call or visit a store to have the lock removed.
Other than that, there's no reason it shouldn't work, but do remember that AT&T will see it as a smartphone. This means with their new prepaid plans, if you're using the 10 cents a minute plan you'll be unable to use data at all. If you're using one of the flat amounts per month, like the $25 or $50 plans, you'll need to purchase a data package (even though the $50 is SUPPOSED to include unlimited internet, smartphones aren't eligible).
I previously used a Motorola Flipside on AT&T's prepaid, before this change I was using the 10 cents a minute plan, with 1000 texts a month and buying a 500mb data package, then rolling over unused data each month with the 10mb package, and everything worked the same as if I was on postpaid - text, mms, internet, etc.
Thanks all! I'm 1½ months into my prepaid service. I'll check with AT&T after 3 months have passed and see if they can remove the SIM lock.
You might go ahead and call customer service anyway, who knows, you may get lucky. 3 months was what a rep told my friend a year or so ago, but that may have changed or may not have been the rule at all. Alternatively, you can go into a local store and purchase a new sim (or purchase one on ebay) and have them transfer your account over to it, just make sure they give you a regular sim and not a go-phone sim.
I just tested my captivate glide with the sim I was using in my flipside. It seems to read the sim just fine, though obviously I'm not still a prepaid customer so I can't make any real calls with it. I've also used it on a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G that was unlocked, briefly, when I was working on the flipside. Once you have the sim lock removed I expect you'll have no problems using it in any unlocked or AT&T locked phone.
If you use the 50 dollar plan and use the wap.cingular apn it will use data just set that up before you put in your sim, and do call they should unlock it for you, if not tell them you will be going to straight Talk at&t phones work locked on them since it's a part of at&t just ran by walmart.

I have two Glides that I activated in June. NEITHER WAS SIM-LOCKED, ever.
Both are the newer 4G SIM, not the older one that says 3G on it. Got em from eBay for about $2.75 each. Both were activated online, about 3 weeks apart.
The first one, I activated with an IMEI of a Glide that broke and was able to use the SIM on a different Glide and other phones, even the Pantech Burst and got 4G. I activated it as 10c plan, then moved it to the $50 unlimited.
The second one was activated with 0000... generic IMEI with the 10c plan, and just like the first one, I was able to use the SIM on any GSM phone I have in the house (and that's quite a few).
APN: wap.cingular - only the name is needed, no userid, etc.

[Q] Unlocked T989 With Straight Talk

Wondering if anyone here has any experience or recommendations. I moved to an area where T-Mobile service is terrible. I'm considering doing the straight talk bring your phone option and getting the AT&T compatible sim since my phone is unlocked. I'm not sure how this would work as far as what radio i'd need to flash and whether other people have had good experiences with straight talk especially using a "tmobile" device with the at&t sim/service.

So Im taking it Straight Talk runs off at&t towers? I always thought it was verizon guess ill be looking into it more because I have the same exact issue.. I need to find a way to sim unlock my phone for free and if not free then something pretty cheap because I refuse to pay 25$ to websites i question are reliable or not. If you find anything post it and ill do the same for you. Also Straight talk sells sim cards for their service for 10$ if you didnt already know.
With straight talk bring your phone it operates off tmobile and or at&t towers and is gsm. Verizon is cdma and from what i've seen on the straight talk website they don't do cdma. Regarding an unlock call the carrier and as long as you up to date on your bill and have had service for a few months they should provide you with an unlock code for free. There is also a thread around here for a free T989 unlock it's a pretty easy process from what I recall.

Thanks for the info, The reason I didnt try getting A unlock code from tmobile before was because i herd you have to have your phone paid off before they would give you one because you could easily just switch service and keep the phone. Is that true? Because im still paying off my phone they add 20$ to my bill each month because the credit of the account holder wasnt good enough. Im gonna try looking for the thread you mentioned though.
EDIT: Also after i unlocked my phone could I use the same sim ive been using until i buy my new one? Or should i just wait to unlock when i get the new sim card? Sorry for all the questions i just wanna be cautious about this so i dont end up bricking my phone.

If you unlock you can still use your sim. I am getting a rom put on T-989 right now with a Straight Talk Sim card. I unlocked mine back in April but then got the Note. I was on Tmobile but data was horrible outside the big cities. Have been on the AT&T ST sim since last April on my Note and love it. Just wanted to try the GS2 out again and looking for a decent rom. Having trouble with slim bean and CM.

Also tell T-mobile you are going to travel overseas in Europe and you want to use some prepaid plans there. They should unlock then even if still under contract.

Both, the phones they used to sell would have either a "C" or "G" at the end of the model# indicating whether it was CDMA or GSM compatible. Not sure about some of their newer phones though, since I think they also have HSPA phones now.
I would imagine the network they assign you to when you bring your own phone would depend on your current network since I think they still operate on both towers.

When you buy the sim you can select either Tmobile or AT&T. AT&T has better coverage in my area. You can't buy the sim at Wally World. Only online.

Canadian (Bell) Pixel XL - Sim Unlocked?

Does anybody know if my Bell Pixel XL is SIM Locked? I am trying to use a Roam Mobility Sim card in my Bell Pixel XL, and it doesnt ask for an unlock code but will not show any signal connect.
I tried the same card in my S7 Edge and it works fine. Normally if the phone is locked and you put in a foreign sim, it should ask for network unlock code but it doesnt show anyhting.
Any suggestions?
I am about to go travelling and have the same question. I used to use Knowroaming, but I want to try a local post as you go in Europe. Little help?
If it was purchased through a carrier then there's a chance that its sim locked, although I thought all Pixels were sim unlocked. If the sim doesn't doesn't work when you pop it in you could always try going into the network settings and reset them and see if that helps. You could also call your carrier if you got the phone through them and see what they say. If you got your Pixel through Google then it's definitely sim unlocked --carriers are not allowed to sim lock an unlocked phone that you use on their network. They sim lock the phone if you buy it directly from the carrier on a payment plan but after you pay off the phone and own it outright they are supposed to unlock the phone for use on other carriers if you request it--at least in the United States. I thought we were the only country where people bought subsidized phones through a phone carrier so except possibly in Canada that shouldn't be an issue anywhere else.

All Canadian Pixels are unlocked. I've used mine in Europe (Ireland) and it worked with no hastle or setup required. Put in foreign SIM and go. Enjoy those data rates over there. 20 Euro top up gets you free unlimited LTE data. Pisses me off every time I come back to Canada and pay the **** prices we pay here.
