[Q] Prepaid Sim for holiday to US - HTC One X

Taking my HTC One X (unlocked) to the US on holiday for 3 weeks, can I get a prepaid micro sim & does anyone recommend one ?

You can get a prepaid sim for AT&T at Best Buy or straight talk at Walmart. Either will work, but straight talk uses AT&T as well as T-Mobile so if you get a T-Mobile one you will only get 2G. In terms of Microsim you will have to have someone at an AT&T or T-Mobile store to cut the sim for you because prepaid sims are full size.

I would recommend the Straight Talk from walmart, but I haven't tried seeing if they sell sims in the store. Thought they were online only.

I've had great success with the T-Mobile USA PAYG SIMS from SIM Card Guru - takes a week or so for delivery. They'll even ship it pre-cut to micro-SIM size.

Prepaid SIMs
Straight Talk offers a micro sim but it is only available online. You can choose either AT&T or T-mobile (I have the AT&T flavor). I have found their service to be very reliable. Good luck!

Can I use any SIM card to activate my Nexus? (T-Mobile)

I added two lines to my parents' T-Mobile family plan through telephone sales and chose the slowest shipping method, so it won't get here until Monday evening, but I'm going to fly out of state on Monday morning. Will I be able to go to Walmart, and buy a pre-paid T-Mobile burner, use the SIM card, and activate my Galaxy Nexus so i'll have the phone up and running tomorrow? If so, will it deactivate the SIM that they're shipping me?
There really isn't any activation involved with GSM phones. Just pop in whichever sim card you want and go.

How will it know which T-Mobile account my phone is on?
The account and number are tied to the sim card. I was under the assumption you were going to buy a prepaid sim for the short term and that would be fine. However, would not be tied to your account and would have a different number.

would I be able to buy the burner prepaid SIM, call T-Mobile and say I want to use that SIM card and assign it my account instead of the SIM card that they're sending me?
Don't know how t-mob works but I can change my sim anytime and my carrier will put my number there no problem

It might be weird for them but you should be able to do it, just give them a call

Not if you want to pick your phone number. The prepaid sim already has its own phone number and you can't change it.

The only thing that is activated on T-Mobile (and most GSM-based carriers) is the SIM card. The phone is not "activated." That is just how GSM works.
Unless I am misunderstanding, you just want an active SIM to use with your new line right? If you have one available you can just walk into a local T-Mobile store and tell them to give you a new SIM for the account/line that you just opened. Afterwards, any other SIM, including one they may mail to you, will not be associated to that line. They do not allow multiple SIMs to be assigned to a line. Activate one, deactivate any other. That's the way it works.

No that wouldn't work cause the prepaid sim would already be active you'll either have to use the non active sim that comes shipped or get to a corpo store and pick up a free one. Imma sales rep for tmob

i guess this is a non issue now. i called T-Mobile to inquire about this but wanted to check my plan first and it turns out the telephone sales lady while telling me my 3rd line would be free due to an account offer, i now actually have to pay for it. i thought the offer was too good, but she confirmed it and i actually have a CallRecorder recording of the conversation. Most likely going to cancel the changes, revert to the previous account and return the phones when they're delivered tomorrow. What a **** feeling, i was really looking forward to activating and using my Nexus too.

That's way more trouble than its worth to try and get working. Why exactly do you want to do this? T-Mobile gives you a SIM already... and if you need another, they'll give you another lol.
Prepaid SIMs are different plans and services and are not transferrable between T-Mobile postpaid and prepaid, generally.

They do give a SIM however it's being mailed and delivered tomorrow but i found out yesterday i have to head out of state tomorrow morning. I called a few TMo stores and they all want to sell me a SIM for $20.
As for the prepaid plans, i just want the SIM from the prepaid phone. From what I've read, the prepaid phone doesn't include any type of plan, it's $20 for the phone and SIM card and a few starter minutes?
Hopefully I won't have to fight T-Mobile too hard to cancel the add a line changes I made last week, I"ll just return their phones or reject delivery and go with Straight Talk for a few months until my parents' T-Mo plan expires in August and add myself then. Such a hassle haha.

But those SIMs are for prepaid only. They can't be used with postpaid plans.
Think of a SIM Card like a Key to your Number on T-Mobile and it's affiliated plan.
That's it. SIM Card in, enter PIN to unlock the Card on the current device, and off you go.
Call, text, whatever.
Internet settings should be updated automatically.

CAN i use at&t note ii with different carrier?

I have note ii from at&t which is also rooted. Can i use with different carrier as I am contemplating verizin wireless? Other day, i talked to girl in bestbuy and she has outright refused has no clue of what rooted phone is. Approached another guy, and pointed me to anohter person in another best buy location who can do some real technical advise but reminded me to talk to him in secrecy.
Another option seems to be sign up with Verizon buying real cheap 10$ phone and change the sim card.
Thanks,
No, you can't. GSM networks only with this phone like T-Mobile. Verizon is a CDMA network

As another member posted, with Verizon no. You can use it with T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, Red Pocket, Straight Talk, etc. Only GSM carriers support this phone. No CDMAs.

You what mate?
AT&T and Tmobile are GSM networks, mostly compatible.
You can use any AT&T phone (even locked) on AT&T or one of their MVNOs, basically resellers of their network. See here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_mobile_virtual_network_operators
If you unlock it, you can also use it on Tmobile, or any of their MVNOs. But Tmobile HSPA+/LTE data networks may or may not match up too well with your AT&T phone, depends on the phone.
Sprint/Verizon use CDMA, a fundamentally incompatible technology from GSM, so it is a no-go.
okay , i switched to tmovile and got an LG G FLEX. Turns out this phone is piece of ****, dropped 2 feet with the rubber case and screen cracked. Now I am going to use the ATT NOTE II with tmobile. Once I transferred the sim card out of that ****ty LG G FLEX's SIM onto NOTE II, it says network locked SIM card. What do I do? should I bring to tmobile and attempt to have unlock the sim card? Or Bring to ATT? Thanks.,

When I moved our Note II to T-mobile, I got an unlock code from one of the websites. Then I took it to T-Mobile and used that unlock code at the store. Lot's of sites that will send you and unlock code and directions to unlock. You can search this forum for "SIM Unlock" and you'll find plenty of threads.
Did you get the T-Mobile "JUMP" for the Flex? If so, then you can have it replaced, otherwise you're SOL.

[Q] Purchasing through Amazon, is SIM included?

I'm considering purchasing the AT&T locked version of the Note 4 at full price on Amazon. If I do this, will the phone come with a SIM from AT&T, or will I need to go to an AT&T store to pickup a SIM card and start a new account? I'm not currently an AT&T customer... I'm active duty military, stationed overseas. I'll be transferring back to the states in about a month and want to have my phone in hand and working when I step off of the airplane.
You will need to activate it with att. Now if your replacing another att phone you can remove Sim and place in new phone new phone should recognize as long as old phone is smart phone too. Att won't let you use it without a data plan if old phone was not a smart phone. Also if old phone is iPhone Sim not compatible you will need to get a new on.
I'm not currently an AT&T customer and I'm not replacing another AT&T phone, so I don't have an AT&T sim card yet. Does the Note 4 ship from Amazon with a sim card included if I purchase it at full retail price?

Not 100% sure but I would say NO it won't. They usually only issue Sim cards at actual retailer's location when they program it etc for you. I've only purchased online once and it did not include a Sim at all let alone one programed to your account. Thank you for your service.

When I purchased my S2 through Amazon, it came with a sim card in which I had to activate by calling in through AT&T. But, I was upgrading through AT&T and already had an account with them. If you are buying the full price without a contract or account, I'm not sure you would get a sim card. Best thing to do is reach out to Amazon and ask them.
I bought my ATT Note 4 on amazon. The SIM card came in the box. Will still need to call ATT to activate.

[Q] UK SIM?

Hi all
I just got my new S6 on Credo (uses the Sprint network). I know I have to call customer service and have them unlock my phone in order to use an international SIM, but I'm curious as to which SIM I should get. I'll be traveling to the UK in August and staying for 3 weeks, so I would like to know if there is a UK network provider that will sell me a nano SIM and a prepaid service with data for a month. If anyone has any suggestions of what provider to go for, I'd appreciate it. Ideally I'd like to buy the SIM now and have it mailed to my house in the US so I can just stick it straight in at the airport when I get off the plane.
Thanks

AT&T SIM Card

I have an unlocked HTC 10 on order. Since the it will not be sold by AT&T, what is the best way to get an AT&T SIM card for this device? It takes a Nano SIM, and I have an old HTC One M7 that has a Micro SIM; i.e. not comptible.
If I take the HTC 10 to at AT&T store, will they give or sell me a SIM for it? Curious. TIA.

Yes, they will simply sell or give you a sim card, then update your account.
You're what is called a COAM (Customer Owned And Maintained) user.
Just walk in and request a nano. Should be free if youre a customer ?

Thank you!
As long as you go to a Company Owned store they are free. Authorized Retailers may charge for a SIM, so I would avoid if possible and go straight to Company Owned location.

Would I be able to take the nano sim out of my AT&T M9? I was previously on Sprint for 15 years and never had to deal with sim cards.

If it's a Nano SIM, yes, just pop it into the 10 and it will be good to go. You ~might~ need to adjust APNs, but that's easy enough.
