[APP] Root Call Blocker - need some feedback please - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

Hi guys, Im the dev of Root Call Blocker, a powerful blocking solution. There have been a few reports of people experiencing issues with the data connection on the S3, which i dont have.
Could someone please let me know if this is indeed the case?
If you do find an issue please follow this procedure:
- as soon as you spot the radio without a data connection (not after a call) send logs through the "Write to us" item in Settings
- once youve sent the report, try using the Debugging tools found in settings
- if the tools do not help, please send another report - this will still help me track issues
Thanks in advance, PR after the break

Hi my friend once again. Never had any issues on the s3 with this app. But my guess is losing data connection happens when the app is kicking out of memory. I recognized this on the s1 as well but as soon as you restart the app the connection is back again. Maybe someone can confirm this.
Throwing out of the window from my flying Ferrari killer S3

No, only the service can run out of memory, the daemon is not kill able.
I assume that these were teething problems.

I'm using this app and haven't experienced any issues with the data connection. Not sure if it's because the profile set up is only active during the night when I'm not using the data connection anyway.

The daemon in this app intercepts all cellular traffic, regardless of the active profile. That I guess means its working as it should.

Best blocker so far. I have not encountered any cell signal disruption but I assume further improvement can still be made to the app although I can't personally give any suggestion since I'm quite fine dealing with the current UI design and setup. Perhaps underlining codes can be improved further?

It depends on the reject method you chose and the topology (speed, congestion, etc) of the network at the time. At worst the caller may hear a partial tone. I suggest you try all the reject methods for yourself, theres a free version of the app available:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Just call yourself via skype or whatever.

I want to raise a question. What is the pros and cons using this Root Call Blocker over some replacement.
I thought this because the word Root in the title. Does this app requires root?
This one even don't require root and could connect servers in order to get junk call list.
Maybe you can ask that developer to help too.

Yeah I don't think that developer is quite in our league there... as for the rest of it why don't you just go ahead and read the app description:

Youre welcome of course, but what about all the stuff in the OP?

Bought the app for my S3 running stock Jelly bean, unfortunately upon testing I found out that blocked caller still hears partial ring before being blocked. Had to refund. Is there any way to address this?
Thanks!

Nope. Blocking speed depends on the network topology (speed, quality, congestion, roaming) at the time - you might find, using the "fast reject" method that there is sometimes an immediate disconnect and other times a partial tone.
Re fast reject - its a simple command just to kill the call asap, it completely ignores the network state, just kills the call on the device end.
Anyway, this is the best you will ever see outside virtual phone numbers nowadays. Also, you know theres a trial available right?

Root Call Blocker

Hey guys I just found this app Root Call Blocker. Its on the forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
Its the best app for blocking calls i ever used on GS 1, but i want to knoiw how its working on Galaxy SII.
I will root but have to know, is this app going to work on Galaxy S 2?
It works in my Galaxy S2 with Cognition S2 v1.15 (Rooted).
Yeah ive been at it for ages its the best but a bit expensive!
It is a bit expensive especially when the SGS2 has a very good one built into the device.
Its the same price as a coffe and muffin at starbuks as the review said - and its a lot more powerful than anything else on the market. Money well spent.
Been using it for ages no and not a single [roblem, didnt even know people had been blocked.
WHY TO USE AN EXTERNAL APP ?
I use the integrated/stock blocker which is excellent!
It blocks 100% + don't ring + don't leave a message on the voice machine
what else do you need ?
hmm never used the call/sms blocking features of the sgs2.
how do you use it?
This app is much better though!

The app logs the calls that are blocked for me to check on later to see who is bothering me and how much, i like my evidence
It also blocks the call half way through the first ring, gives the impression the number isnt in use anymore !
The built in call blocker works well but the only problem with it is that it always flashes a notification after booting up, that needs to be cleared. I wish there was an option so it didn't send a notification that it is active.
Just use Call Master!

[Q] Native VOIP (Internet Calling)

Evening folks.
Currently utilizing native internet calling via dialer -> sip accout (pbxes.org) -> google voice.
The grand question is, does an app exist or is it a configuration hiding out somewhere that can edit the configuration/qualities of half/full duplex and mic noise reduction? Is that even the place to be looking?
Have calls inbound/outbound with no problem, however, a few seconds of me making noise kills the incoming audio completely (the problem rears its head in outdoor situations, where wind can overpower the mic and I lose all incoming audio). Bandwidth/latency isn't the issue, and it's really effecting the quality of the calls.
For sheer simplicity, I'd like to keep it to the native dialer/etc, so sipdroid/grooveip/etc are out. The function exists, it just feels like it needs to be honed down and honestly, there's not enough configuration options I'm seeing to deal with the problems.
Cheers
GrooVe IP can use the native dialer.

Absolutely right. I think a lot of people don't realize it. I just dial like normal and then a small pop-up appears asking which network I want to make the call over.

And you can set GrooveIP to automatically use the 3g/4g connection and default to the native network if no internet is available. Loving it so far.
i tried a whole bunch of them, the one that worked best for me was csipsimple, also one of the few with clear sound and echo supression. its free and uses native dialer (after you click 'phone' a box pops up asking for permission to use VOIP).
i just wish i could use the native client. i hated to install something extra when ICS has it built right in. unfortunately, like you said, it is crippled by too few options, won't accept many providers as it is right now. im on voipcheap for instance, phone cancels call or crashes.

[Q] Best app to track lost phone?

Hi Guys,
I wanted to know what any of you find to be the best app to find a lost phone. I wanted to know what the best app is to date since things can change over time, and I havent used this type of service for over a year. Some features I'd like are GPS tracking but little to no battery drain, and the ability to sound an alert even when the phone is silent or on vibrate. Thanks for any and all input.
Just me but I use the one that comes with 'Kaprasky Security', it is very accurate in my country of Canada so just try that or wait for other responses

I second this. No monthly or annual fees. Just pay $4 one time and it covers up to 5 devices.
Here's some of the features:
It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code
- Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!
Cerberus automatically enables GPS if it is off when you try to localize your device (only on Android < 2.3.3) and you can protect it from unauthorized uninstalling - more info in the app configuration.
The app works even if the device does not have an internet connection thanks to remote control by sms messages. Also, the SIM Checker feature allows you to know the new number to send texts to, if the SIM card is changed. Texts received and sent for Cerberus remote control will not start any notification and will not appear in the Messages application.
Cerberus does not drain the battery because there is no background service running: it will activate only if there is a remote control request and will stop afterwards.
More features for rooted devices: complete uninstall protection (a thief will be able to delete Cerberus only by flashing another ROM), GPS auto-enabling even on Android > 2.3.3. More info on the website in the Help section.

I used that to find my wife's phone. Did a remote install too as I didn't have it on the device. .. Amazing.
I've heard a lot about Cerberus, but it needs to always be running on your device from what I can see. Can you remote install and configure it only when you need it? If not, that's a pretty dangerous app to allow basically all functions of your phone to be accessed online...
I use avast! Mobile Security. You can install the application and then enable Anti-Theft. Once it's set-up and installed, you can uninstall avast! Mobile Security. (I'm unable to provide links, but they have a webpage that describes the necessary steps better.)
You can then use a bunch of different commands via text message to locate/lock/unlock/etc. your phone. You can specify two phone numbers to be the only phones that can communicate with your device, or you can leave it open. (Commands sent to your device must contain your pin code and then the command.)
The FAQ for the app says it does not run in the background and is only activated when a text command is sent to the phone. (I think this program only works if you're able to receive text messages to your actual number. Not via Google Voice.)
avast mobile security is awesome!
I use cerberus...they have features such a remote recording of video and audio which I don't think is available on SeekDroid which I was on before

You can buy a ball of yarn at the hardware store for a few cents. Tie one end to the phone, one end to your wrist.

Okay... I just tested it now with Cerberus dashboard (online website where you can send commands from) with my phone unlocked right in front of me. Sent command "start tracking" and saw with my own eyes the WIFI and GPS toggles go from OFF to ON. Wifi and GPS still on... Sent command "stop tracking" and WIFI and GPS toggles went from ON to OFF.
---Edit---
Sorry, I was wrong about the administrator privileges, by enabling that, it will allow you to erase your data/sd card remotely. To get WIFI and GPS to turn on when you send the tracking command, you have to push Cerberus to /system/app

Cerberus help page, and I quote:
"I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features?
Yes! If you have rooted your device you can integrate Cerberus into your ROM and get two additional features: complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will even survive a wipe/factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling even on Android 2.3.3 and later. To have these features uninstall Cerberus, then download cerberus.zip, put it on the sd card and install it from recovery. Cerberus is also available on ROM Manager."
Taken from avast! Mobile Security app page, and I quote:
"Self-Protection
Extremely difficult for thieves to remove (especially on rooted phones), Anti-Theft protects itself from uninstall by disguising its components with various self-preservation techniques. On rooted phones it is able to survive hard-resets and can even disable the phone’s USB port."

Best security app ever for the Nexus 7

Sorry for the shameless self promotion. But my Security app Root Defense has been thoroughly tested on the Nexus 7 and unlike any other security app out there, it will allow you to continue to track your phone even if it gets wiped or a hard-reset by a thief.
It's almost impossible to lose your phone and it's completely free.
It requires that your phone be rooted (as most peoples are on XDA)
Please try it out and rate and comment on Google Play if you like it.

No, but thanks for the suggestion. It currently caches data offline and as soon as a WiFi or cellular connection is made, the application uploads the data.
This is fantastic
Would it be possible to log which apps are used on the device?
I'm currently trialling Airwatch for a project I'm working on for a fleet of phones and tablets. From what I've tested so far, I'd like to recommend a switch to your solution.

looks like a good product. Will give it a try. Contrary to what you have said, other apps CAN survive a system reset or wipe of the phone. you can also embed Cerberus in the rom so that it survives a system reset and you can also hide it and make it look like a system app in the tasks list.
What i like about this product though is how it can track calls, and sms etc. Though this does obviously raise some privacy concerns with all this info being stored on a third party server.

Jeepfreak, It embeds itself in the system so that it is treated as if it is a program that came with the phone or tablet. In effect, it injects itself into the rom of the phone (hence the need do root to install). this way out will still be they if you reset the phone.it will not survive the rom being replaced though i assume, which is the same limitation on other apps of this type.

I'd rather have my device stolen and wiped than trust a third party.
At £200 the N7 is almost disposable.
Looked at the title and thought... Avast... happy with it, and have no plans on losing something this big. I have mine in an auto on/off case. If the secret code isn't entered in 15 seconds, my N7 starts smoking and disintegrates.

No it doesn't, Cerberus tries to save money by not having a database store your information. This is one of the major differences.
What this means to the end user is the following:
If your battery is dead or the phone is off, you cannot see where your phone was a little while ago or see any of your logs. The map will show the location of the last time you manually told it to check and logs will only pull if the device is on.
Root Defense Keeps a copy online and automatically updates background info. This means you'll be able to see where it was right before the battery died or was turned off. Also, all the logs would still be available to look at.
Another major difference is that Cerberus only sends a copy of your SMS or calls logs where Root Defense records them in real time. This is pretty major because if I have Cerberus on my kids phone and they call or text someone they shouldn't, they just have to delete the message of call log and Cerberus would never know. With Root Defense logs can't be wiped.
This is useless, unless your N7 is taken back to a wifi hotspot you have previously allowed it's not going to report back.
Nice idea but only useful for phones
If I stole a N7 the first thing I would do is wipe the rom.
This will only catch a complete idiot and you would be one too for letting your N7 out of your sight.
No security software of this type will be any good unless CWM finally gets password locking.
Shame on the OP for spamming his app when he's already got a dedicated thread for it.

That is pretty harsh, the OP can post anywhere it is appropriate.. and this is one of those places. Also, you overestimate the intelligence of criminals- half of the people on XDA can't flash a rom, why would a random criminal know how? How to go into settings and perform a full wipe maybe.. but that would leave the software on the device.
Eventually they will connect to internet.
Cerberus and avast (and other apps I am sure) can also survive wipe / hard reset. As long as the rom is not flashed, the app stays installed. Cerberus stores very little data which is why it has a once off cost only.
Different pricing models provide different services. At their core, all of these types of apps do pretty much the same thing, but let's try and stick to the facts when saying which can and which can't do things.

Question The new Android 12

I have a few questions regarding the new update.
1. Does region matter?
I have a RETEU device, is there a reason why flashing the RETBR wouldnt work?
2. Is it worh it? Are the features (mostly design and privacy interest me) Android 12 promised there and functional?
3. How is the battery life on it?
I would love if you guys could help me out since i am very exited about the new features!
Also is there a Third Party Android 12 ROM, or GSI or something, any of you guys have used and recommend that is somewhat functional as a daily driver?
Thanks and much love!
No harm in waiting... 12 is a mess across all devices.
I bailed with Adroid 10 and don't regret spurning 11 and up one bit. CPU cycle sucking scoped storage became mandatory with 11; 12 is likely worse. I would research this first.

Hey,
short feedback from my experiences since upgrading to Android 12 in Germany.
1. Sorry, no idea.
2. Privacy features seam to work fine. Only problems I experienced are the following.
- You can now deny new / formerly hidden permissions. Denying them can brick apps. (example denying the "alarm / reminder" permission bricks the app "Notebook" until permission is granted again).
- All quick access setting have to be sorted again.
- new "deny all microphone access" in quick setting does what it should. For me it did it's job too literally. My interpretation "deny all apps except calling" but all MEANS all (yeah I know obvious... duh....).
3. Haven't performed any special comparisons but it feels same or maybe even a bit longer.

Hi,
to be honest, I have no idea what you mean. I guess I'm too much of a noob regarding Android internals. I mean no offense. Would you be so kind to briefly explain this? Thanks
--------
Some of my own experiences / questions.
Background:
I'm using my device with the work profile to keep annoying apps at bay.
Using "Shelter" app.
Using "Aurora Store" in work profile to install apps.
No factory reset was performed since upgrade.
Not rooted.
Problem:
Since the upgrade to Android 12 I'm experiencing an quite annoying bug. Using the "phone" app (private profile) I have no sound and microphone sometimes. So I can't hear and can't be heard. If I'm activating the work profile and use the "phone" app (again from private profile) I suddenly have sound and microphone.
Fix / workaround:
Another way to "fix" this problem is to reboot the phone. After reboot it works for an undefined time. I haven't tested if the problem starts after using work profile and deactivating it again. I'm testing it and I'll try to not forget to post an update for others.
FYI:
BTW if sound from other apps does work, wasn't tested until now. If you need to call you normally have no time for testing, so reboot it was for me.
Tested solutions:
Tested some general "solutions" from REDDIT & Co.
Editing settings in "Sound & vibration" -> "Audio effects": recommended "activate Dolby ATMOS". Phone doesn't have that so i resetted the setting (after tapping "Audio effects" tap "Settings" at the bottom then tap 3 dot menu and tap "Reset")
- DIDN'T WORK
Suggestion it's a carrier problem
Set network selection to manual and select your corresponding network.
- DIDN'T WORK
Deactivate or activate "Wi-Fi calling". (mine was activated so I deactivated it)
- DIDN'T WORK
Enable or disable "VoLTE". (mine was activated so I deactivated it)

My questions:
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Has anyone found a solution?

Hey,
short feedback from my experiences since upgrading to Android 12 in Germany.
Thanks

Great formating and great feedback! Thanks so much!
The first point seems irrelevant anyways since the update is now for RETEU too.
I might try to upgrade tonight but i might wait a bit since i try and degoogle my phone as much as i can so i will probably soft brick it once or twice.
If I run into any of the issues you have i will come back with more feedback!
Regarding what BlackHawk said, from my understanding somehow the new scoped storage feature ( that allows apps to have access to only selected files and folders instead of device wide storage access) somehow messes with the CPU.
He most likely knows more but thats just my basic understanding and interpretation of what he said.
Thanks again and have a great day!
