Root Call Blocker - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hey guys I just found this app Root Call Blocker. Its on the forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
Its the best app for blocking calls i ever used on GS 1, but i want to knoiw how its working on Galaxy SII.
I will root but have to know, is this app going to work on Galaxy S 2?

It works in my Galaxy S2 with Cognition S2 v1.15 (Rooted).

Yeah ive been at it for ages its the best but a bit expensive!

It is a bit expensive especially when the SGS2 has a very good one built into the device.

Its the same price as a coffe and muffin at starbuks as the review said - and its a lot more powerful than anything else on the market. Money well spent.
Been using it for ages no and not a single [roblem, didnt even know people had been blocked.

WHY TO USE AN EXTERNAL APP ?
I use the integrated/stock blocker which is excellent!
It blocks 100% + don't ring + don't leave a message on the voice machine
what else do you need ?

hmm never used the call/sms blocking features of the sgs2.
how do you use it?

This app is much better though!

The app logs the calls that are blocked for me to check on later to see who is bothering me and how much, i like my evidence
It also blocks the call half way through the first ring, gives the impression the number isnt in use anymore !

The built in call blocker works well but the only problem with it is that it always flashes a notification after booting up, that needs to be cleared. I wish there was an option so it didn't send a notification that it is active.

Just use Call Master!

Good Free Anti-Theft Apps?

Was using a freeware done by one of the guys here on WM Phones and a great piece of work.
Currently using the free version of F-Secure, have not really read the user manual, so not sure how it really works. I try to change SIM Card, the Apps only feedback the SIM is change and no SMS send to the Number I have pre-define. Is this because I did not turn on the GPS as required in order for the phone to send GPS coordinates via SMS? GPS location is only a plus, just send an empty SMS will be good enough if GPS is not on, because the SMS itself already let you know the thief's phone number.
Anyone uses F-Secure, am I missing something in my usage?
Anyone has other free Anti-Theft Apps that works on i9000?
i use wheres my droid good app. but doesnt get around the issue of if the gps is off it dosnt tell you locations.
Ok, thanks, will check it out.

yes but i cannot find any instructions on how to use the built in one and i dont believe it has gps tracking.. in addition the app i recommended has a fuction to ring loud when called from a certain number so you can find phone if you drop it somewhere.. (even if on silent) and also gps tracking if you leave gps on.

I think mobile tracker on our phone has to do with Samsung Dive but I am not sure as I don't think it's fully implemented yet:

With the mobile tracker, you can also register an online account with Samsung, which allows you to remotely track the phone, wipe the contents etc. But yes, I agree that there's not much info available.
yes i tried to use the built in one .. .said i needed country code for number so
i put 1-areacode-number (i am in the u.s.) and still got the same error.
Try Prey. I also use it on my computers.

The custom ROM comes loaded with Wavesecure which looks like the creme della creme of this kind of software but after I registered it told me it was just a trial

Did you put +1 or just 1. I'm from Australia and just wrote +61[Phone number] with no hyphens, +61 being the country code for Australia. I'm fairly certain the leading plus is a requirement.

I also use Lookout Mobile - it also allows you to send a "scream" to your phone, which causes the phone to make a loud siren-like noise for about 2 minutes, which cannot be turned off by the person with the phone (unless they take the battery out, of course). I also use Anti Theft Droid...nothing like double the protection.
I use:

Free and great.
BAK2u .com?
I've used them when I was still using win 6.5.
you can only use the built in tracker if you're in the UK or Germany.
Anyone from there want to try it out and see how it is?

[APP] Root Call Blocker - need some feedback please

Hi guys, Im the dev of Root Call Blocker, a powerful blocking solution. There have been a few reports of people experiencing issues with the data connection on the S3, which i dont have.
Could someone please let me know if this is indeed the case?
If you do find an issue please follow this procedure:
- as soon as you spot the radio without a data connection (not after a call) send logs through the "Write to us" item in Settings
- once youve sent the report, try using the Debugging tools found in settings
- if the tools do not help, please send another report - this will still help me track issues
Thanks in advance, PR after the break

Hi my friend once again. Never had any issues on the s3 with this app. But my guess is losing data connection happens when the app is kicking out of memory. I recognized this on the s1 as well but as soon as you restart the app the connection is back again. Maybe someone can confirm this.

No, only the service can run out of memory, the daemon is not kill able.
I assume that these were teething problems.

I'm using this app and haven't experienced any issues with the data connection. Not sure if it's because the profile set up is only active during the night when I'm not using the data connection anyway.

The daemon in this app intercepts all cellular traffic, regardless of the active profile. That I guess means its working as it should.
Best blocker so far. I have not encountered any cell signal disruption but I assume further improvement can still be made to the app although I can't personally give any suggestion since I'm quite fine dealing with the current UI design and setup. Perhaps underlining codes can be improved further?

It depends on the reject method you chose and the topology (speed, congestion, etc) of the network at the time. At worst the caller may hear a partial tone. I suggest you try all the reject methods for yourself, theres a free version of the app available:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Just call yourself via skype or whatever.
I want to raise a question. What is the pros and cons using this Root Call Blocker over some replacement.
I thought this because the word Root in the title. Does this app requires root?
This one even don't require root and could connect servers in order to get junk call list.
Maybe you can ask that developer to help too.

Bought the app for my S3 running stock Jelly bean, unfortunately upon testing I found out that blocked caller still hears partial ring before being blocked. Had to refund. Is there any way to address this?
Thanks!

Nope. Blocking speed depends on the network topology (speed, quality, congestion, roaming) at the time - you might find, using the "fast reject" method that there is sometimes an immediate disconnect and other times a partial tone.
Re fast reject - its a simple command just to kill the call asap, it completely ignores the network state, just kills the call on the device end.
Anyway, this is the best you will ever see outside virtual phone numbers nowadays. Also, you know theres a trial available right?

Security Apps

I recently thought I had lost my phone but I had just misplaced it at home. Because I had powered it off I was unable to locate it by making it ring and I thought it had been stolen.
Unfortunately, I hadn't set a lockscreen pin or installed a security app to help locate and control my phone remotely so my phone was totally unprepared for the situation.
I hurridly set about changing sensitive passwords using my laptop then I tried to remotely install a security app called "Android Lost" and when I eventually found my phone the app was automatically installed but did not work because it needs to be run and activated.
So, I have learned my lesson from this experience and I have now set a lockscreen password PIN and installed and registered "Android Lost".
Now if I really lose my phone I am not completely helpless and I will not power it off unless it is on charge.
I hope my experience acts as a warning to others who have not taken phone security precautions.
Yeah that's basically the first thing I did with the Nexus 4, I ended up going with Cerberus which was about $4aud for a account which I can use on my two previous phones and tablet should I decide to take it away since the Nexus doesn't have USB OTG support.
Does basically everything, my most wanted feature was the invalid pin/pattern photo, where if you put the wrong pin/pattern in it'll take a photo & Email it to me.
Thankfully haven't needed to put it into action but I make sure to test it after each ROM upgrade just in case it doesn't work.
I think the app "Plan B" will work in that situation. Never tried before though.
Using "Wheres my droid" myself.

Thanks for your informative reply. I've switched from "Android Lost" to Cerberus which looks better.
Cerebus, Android lost or where's my droid?
I tried Cerberus because of all the positive comments I had seen on xda. I can personally say it is by far the best one out there. I've used seek droid, where's my droid and nearly all of them but Cerberus just seems to do more

Yeah, I use Cerberus as well (got it for free quite some time back when the developer was having a "free for life" weekend special). Also, it's worth mentioning that once bought you can use it on up to 5 devices (which is great if you have multiple phones).
In addition to doing what is quoted above it also lets you do all kinds of things in the web interface. From locking the SIM to tracking the phone's location over a given time period to being able to pull up call and text logs. All of that in addition to the usual features of locating your phone (via GPS) and setting off an alarm (that is insanely, and occasionally scary, loud).
I highly recommend it to my friends and family members. Definitely think you should give it a go. If I hadn't gotten it for free I would gladly have paid for it. Never had to use it (beyond showing off its capabilities to people looking for a security app), but it gives me peace of mind knowing it just works (and does so after ROM flashing).
Also, if you have root and enable it as a device administrator it'll do quite a bit more. From locking your phone to remote wipes to uninstallation protection (of course a complete wipe from recovery will beat that, but there's only so much you can do or not do in that case).
I like the way Cerberus can take a picture of someone trying to crack the lock screen pin and email it. I wonder how difficult it is to get past a screen lock pin?

No impact at all. Since the app doesn't run until you manually send commands from the web interface. And even then the app doesn't really "run" per se. There's no visibility at all it's even there, minus the icon in the app drawer. (And you can even hide the app and make it so it's only accessible by dialing a certain code from the phone dialer.)
i want to install these 'lost my phone' apps but dont they really drain the battery and you have to turn on gps and location settings on? also if the thief who steals your phone will read up on how to reflash and wipe the phone? it will render these apps useless
I've been using Cerberus for some time now and it's absolutely perfect! Every part of it functions just as it's intended to and the app has practically no impact on battery life. Great stuff!

[Q] Recording phone calls possible?

I am wondering how i can go about recording phone calls on my note 2? I need to start recording phone calls from my cable company and some credit collectors...
Ive seen alot of places saying that you must be running a custom rom and a custom kernal, But i would not liek to root my note 2 or lose any of the data on it, or run into the issues ive had in the past with running custom firmware.
Is this possible from stock?

Where could i find this? Also, I am not so concerned with my side, I just want to make sure it gets THEM and what THEY say clearly, so when people try to change their stories, which happens too much now adays and then suddnely, they cant pull my last call due to system errors or something...i wanna be able to say "Well, let me pull MY copy of the conversation, shall we?"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31987959&postcount=8 Is J on the list. Sadly the Villainrom site which holds most of the mods has been down for some time now. There was a temporary site setup somewhere. If you are yet to root, I found Dr Ketan's other posts on this very helpful.

I would definitely use Xposed framework and call recording mod since this only ENABLES what is already built in Note II, there is no extra software running, slowing down your phone etc. And it is logical to assume it works better then 3rd party apps which weren't specifically written for SGNII.
As far as ROOT is concerned I really don't see how it can affect anything, especially what root has in common with messages being deleted etc. It must have been something else. Root has no impact on your phone's functionality, it only removes protection to system files (or better said, changes it from unavailable to available via prompt from the SU app, so there stil is some protection). There is excellend sticky by dr ketan (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696) on how to root SGNII.

And I am certain it was not the root, but i only noticed it on my s3 after i rooted. Not attributing it to the fact, but i didnt like it none the less, because i lost alot of messages and i couldnt send one or two messages wihtout rebooting every 5 seconds, and most hte time that didnt even fix it.

First read the excellent thread on rooting, triangle away. After you root (trust me it is not difficult, you just have to take your time, read it through a couple of times) here is xposed thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012770. The modules are located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189965. The one you need is either "Enable Call Recording" or "Exposed TweakBOx", they both enable call recording but TweakBox can do a few more things.
And the best thing is there are a lot of modules for other things, and once you root and install xposed, you don't have to flash them - they're installed as normal APKs.

Samsung Smart Call or Caller ID

So Samsung seems to advertise everywhere for their Smart Call call ID functionality, but that doesnt appear to be available anywhere on the VZV Note 8. I know Verizon tries to sell you their own garbage Caller ID, but is there anyway to get the official samsung on this by means of an APK or something? And if not, what caller ID do you people recommend?? Having used a Nexus device for years i never needed one of these since Google Dialer did such a fantastic job filtering out spam etc.
Unfortunately Verizon disables it and I have not found any way to enable it. I don't pay for Verizon's Caller ID feature but use an app called Hiya.

I've used Hiya in the past and it's a cool app. It let's you block calls. Well, not really block them. It auto disconnects them. You can only truly block calls with apps on rooted phones (though I'd love for someone to prove me wrong). My only problem with Hiya is it seems a bit resource heavy on my old Note 4. Haven't installed it on this phone yet.
Also places in contact app is not available too loosk like.
Search locally

So has anyone found a way to get this on our phones? I tried to APKs from apkmirror, one from April, and 1 from August of this year, and they both didn't install
caller id is a flop always has been
Download ShortCut master lite. Search through for phone app, tap it. Scroll down and Inside you will see smart call settings. Tap once, then click launch. Window opens, click to enable.
Note: I haven't had any unidentied callers yet since enabling, but there it is.
Even using shortcut master it doesn't work.. It'll work if you flash the unlocked firmware but then volts and WiFi calling doesn't work.. If you turn them on then smart call gets turned off... Smart call uses the hiya database so I just downloaded the hiya app and it works great.. There's also a Google dialer floating around that works that adds even more features.
