Is it possible to request an application that does group messaging like the iphone does?
My friend has the Atrix 2 and I believe it works on his stock messaging app. I have tried installing that app on my phone but it fails to install.. I am currently using Handcent but it crashes quite often.
I have seen the stock GS3 messaging app have the group messaging setting, but i cant remember what carrier it was. I am thinking it was sprint.
There has to be a way..
Thanks in advance.

Go SMS doesnt send MMS correctly.. it sends a link to the picture or video you sent.. that is just dumb. I just wish the stock messaging app would have it. I dont see why all messaging apps dont support group messaging.

When I use go sms with iPhone users, group messaging works the same as the iPhone, including pictures. Mine are not links...
Not sure why it's different from you. Maybe a setting?

I've been using Kik Messenger for some time - very stable and frequent updates. I've used it on blackberries, iOS and about a billion different flavours of android with no problems.
I could never get a group message from iPhone users with Go.. What am I doing wrong?
Oh, and when I sent a group msg it seemed more like the app was sending individual msgs to the iPhone users.

From the Q&A Forums on how to enable and use MMS Group chat on GO SMS PRO...

It is possible, and works pretty effectively.
I haven't used handcent's feature but GO SMS does this feature quite well.
1. Go into Settings
2. Go to the Advanced tab
3. Select the 'Sent Settings' option
4. Check the option for 'MMS Group Chat'

5. You can now group chat with iOS users. Whenever you send a group chat it will default to this setting and all iOS / GO SMS users will see it as one groupchat window. The same goes for when iOS users send you a message as part of a group chat. The only thing is...each message will always come as an MMS. It initially gets added as a new text from the person it came from, then it gets 'redirected' into the group chat conversation thats already open. Its not native...but it works.
hope this helped.

Thanks, but i have used Go SMS Pro on the S3 and it starts to lag after a while.. The stock messaging app on the verizon S3 supports group texting, so.. it should be portable to the att version..
Go SMS works sometimes and some other times it does not. Not sure why this is sooooooooo fu______king diffictult for Google, android to fix. Just don't understand.

Me neither.,. Other devices have had this feature for years.. I am so tempted to get a different phone.. I use to use the heck out of group texting when i had a iphone.. Thats a feature that would make me switch back, even though it would cost me a bit since i dont have a upgrade available for the next iPhone..
If Google would just make it part of their mms.apk, I would be more than happy to switch to a CM10 rom if need be.
But since its supposedly on the verizon version of this phone, I dont see why a developer hasnt ported it over or atleast has commented saying its not possible or something..
Sighs
Hi guys!!! can any one tell me what is the maximum number of recipients in Go SMS while groups texting? I need to send around 40-50 at once, will it do the job? or is there some other app you would recommend?
BTW I am running Samsung S5570 with stock ROM Gingerbread 2.3.6!
Thanks in advance!!
I don't have a definitive answers for this because I don't work for AT&T but , group messaging is part of the stock Rom. I can enable it but it does not work like it should. The Verizon S3 has this enabled by default, and it works... there is almost no difference between the messaging apk's, and frameworks. With that said I question AT&T and the way there network handles that sort of thing. If the third party apps don't work either, just makes me wonder. Did they keep group messaging non-functioning on the S3 on purpose? Probably to sell more iPhones. Does group work on other android phones? Idk but it sucks none the less.
Here's how you turn group messaging on touchwiz mms.

I have always hated group SMS on Android. This is a huge turn off for people that come from iOS. Is there any way to have our group text messaging behave the way it does on iOS? It just makes more sense. You text a group, you should get replies from the group and be able to reply TO the group instead of individual messages you have to reply to individually..

agree - every new android release I hope for this... especially video chat integration like it is in iOS. Maybe there are patent issues holding that integration back???
Even if some apps are able to send and receive group messages, the people you send them to won't get each other's replies. That's bad for business use..

FYI I just tried both of these and none of them can do Group SMS for incoming. They send out the SMS, but when users reply it receives them individually. Also i notice that some of these apps when they sent out the sms you actually see it send out one sms at a time and that might be the root of the problem. Right now i have been able to do true Group SMS via Facebook Messeger app as it allows for you to send SMS messages for some android phones such as my HTC One X, S3 etc. I just don't like the interface and it's slow.
Does anyone have any other solution for this? A real working solution? Group SMS means when you send out a group SMS and the recipients respond you get all the messages in one thread not individual threads. Thanks in advance.

not even with thread group messaging in handcent?
it seemed to work for me when i tested it (i dislike that feature, my bud with the iphone hates it. so m ight be missing something)
Has anyone else been experiencing issues with receiving MMS's when they were sent to a group? For example, if someone sends me a picture, with a few other people on the message, I won't get the message. The message will come through and just say "downloading" and I'll never get the picture.
When I get replies then, they are all individual texts instead of embedded in a group.
Thanks for any advice!
That's because androids stock messenger doesn't support group texting. You can send a group text but replies will always come back in individual threads...sorry

Use GoSMS Pro, It's free on the market, and you can make it run in "Lite" mode, It will fully support iPhone Group texting. If you want to reply in the same group, Go to settings, Tap advanced at the top then Send settings > Check the box that says Group MMS chat.
If you want to go into "Lite" Mode, go into the settings and change the running mode. It will still allow you to receive and send group MMS as well as have custom themes. It is really fast in "Lite" mode.

I get this all the time, almost all of my friends and family use iphones. Regularly I get an "empty" text from them and I've been told it's a glitch in the iphone but it doesn't affect other iphones only android users.

I'd also like to add that iphone users can't seem to NOT reply to all.. yeah I know it's possible but they always reply to all even when it's personal. It's the main reason I go over my 1000 text allowance each month.

I use group texting everyday. Every single one of my friends have the iphone and I've used Hancent for years, but it doesn't work well with group texting. Event when I selected Group messaging in Handcent, i would receive each message in each persons thread, not the group thread. My friends with the iPhones said that my messages wouldn't ever appear in the group thread, but showed up in my thread instead. So i just switched to GoSMS Pro and so far everything has been working like a charm. Follow the instructions that Tirionfive wrote and you will not have any issues. Group texting is the $hit, and I really wish that Google integrated it into the stock messaging app. Oh well it will likely be in Key Lime Pie (unless Crapple already patented it already).
I've been using Go SMS Pro for the last few days and it is absolutely great! Not sure I'll ever go back to stock text messaging

Hey guys,
I'm new to android and I've done my research, but for some reason I can't come across an app that will let me group chat with iphone users. This is crucial to me and it is getting really annoying to have to answer to each iphone user when they are in a group chat. Is there a messaging app that will let me group chat with iphone users without having to set up a new account with other messaging apps like whatsapp and viber? I don't care about imessaging with iphone users. I just care about group chatting and I don't want to set up an account with other apps and force my friends so talk to me through those apps.
Any ideas?
I can't say for certain but I think GO SMS Pro will allow you to configure it to do what you want. Handcent SMS also claims to let you "group mms with iPhone". I will look into it a bit more and let you know if there are any others.
Handcent does do group messages as of recent. It was bad at first, but its now pretty good and usable. I use it quite often with friends who are on iPhones.
I assume that's what you mean by "group chat".

Handcent does it.
To enable, go to Settings (in handcent), choose default messaging application and set to all.
Then at the bottom tick "Thread group conversation."
Finally, in notification settings, tick "Notify after download", for a better experience.
Done.
I'll give these a shot, guy. Thanks a bunch. This should really help me out with group messaging.
I am running the stock sms app on my ATT s3 running JB. I am an iphone convert, so please bear with...
If someone sends an sms to me longer than say 4 lines of text, the sms will be delivered to me in multiple sms'.
Is there a fix/setting for this? My iphone never did this.
-J
Short Message Service (SMS for short) is limited to 160 characters. On an iPhone, multiple texts are usually connected into one by the receiving iPhone (unless using iMessage; I do not think there is a character limit). Android, however, does not do that by default. One choice you have is to download a third-party SMS app, like goSMS. I use goSMS and it works really well, lets you join iPhone group conversations, lets you install themes, and will also connect texts over the 160 character limit into a single text.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Are you rooted? If so you can replace your sec_mms.apk which will give you Emoji as well as an option in settings for SMS to MMS which will transform long texts to mms to keep them together. I just rename you existing sec_mms.apk to sec_mms.apk.bak and paste the new one in and reboot. Hope this helps. Link below to thread with apk. I credit to original uploader...

Is group messaging. like that on the Verizon S4, not available on the T-Mobile version?
Group messaging like we're you select more than one contact? Because I did that earlier today and didn't know if they replied everyone would see it
It's works for me. Selecting more then one contact coverts it to a mms group message. Replying also seems to go to everyone in the group. I only tested the reply portion with three GS4's though.

I am having an issue where one contact of the group will have their replies pulled out to a new thread.. The other 3 contacts in the group work as normal group. This happens in the stock app only.
In go sms it works fine (not a huge fan of the app tho).
Any ideas why this is happening?
