Lately the phone has been running warmer than normal. While on call or on a game it really heats up. I have to stop playing game thinking that it may blow up in my hands.
Is this a general problem with the quality of chip used by HTC?
Is this because of stock ROM?
Does this also happen on CFW?
Maybe u have a sg3...

I chkd phone update today ..but nothing for me, but I see few ppl have got .4 n updated sense.
no issues at all with mine....when you say it gets really hot does it only happen while playing games? and how long do you play your game for? also do you play games while charging your phone?
1: while playing game - no charging : after playing for 5-10 mins the back part below the camera and the ring of camera heats up, same happens on long calls....
Game : deck landing
Also long browsing on WiFi warms the phone. (Only occasional)..unable to narrow this down
2 : on charger : its not only warm, but its really hot. I get a little unsafe feeling. Game time less than 5 min.
Why do u think this is happening?

while charging i would not recommend to play games. also regarding when browsing though wifi it does get warm my friend.....but after a very long while....regarding games i mean i play only one game but it does get hot but not to the extreme that it would burn my hands
if it gets so hot that you can not hold it in your hands then maybe there is something wrong..specially if it gets hot after say two minutes....do you have other stuff in the background like facebook or twitter while playing the games
Thank u for replying.
I've cancelled all apps in task manager n tried and it still runs warm, but not hot.
WiFi is ocassional, so I cannot narrow as when and which situation.
My battery software shows the batt temp jump to 45 deg ...normal is 32-34... So I'm sure its definitely getting warm ....
Does rooting and installing cfw help?
Have you installed any apps recently? Seems like an app misbehaving. Use a battery monitor app to see which app.

You should update, I'm not sure if the new OTA is out in India check..
My One X was heating until I went 2.05+ based roms. They fixed overheating issues in the new ota. If the new OTA isn't out in India, you can unlock and get one of those new roms with 2.17 base or stock 2.17
cheers!
Send it back for repair, getting hot when browsing internet on WiFi is not normal. I'm browsing internet on WiFi for 2 hours for now and my hox is not even warm.

Hey guys can anyone help me getting 2.x roms please?
Also should I wait for the next update a d then take a call ?
1)Check for updates
2)If No update then decide if you want to unlock(s-on) your phone to try a 2.xx based ROM. That's if you haven't unlocked already.
or you want to give it to HTC
If there is no update and you do give it to HTC good luck!
If you're desperate and want to unlock and update then:
1)Unlock Phone
2)Install CWM
3)Pick a ROM and flash
There are more than enough stickies and guides in the HTC One X Android Development subforum. Help yourself.

Hi everyone !! I just bought my midnight blue arc yesterday morning and am loving it!
All those people who have problems with the battery please get your phones checked coz i feel the battery life on this phone is pretty pretty decent.
Anyway I'm facng a problem that the phone rebooted thrice yesterday while I was on a call!! Is anyone else facing this problem ? Any remedies ??
Thanks
not a problem here for me.. I have heard that this problem seems to be affecting phones in Japan.... also heard that a full SD card reformat seems to have helped some people..
Oh nooo! Call wonk is back on Arc now?
You can try dewonkificator from the N1 section
I have experienced the same thing several times. Has also experienced the phone stalls for 3-5 seconds, and app links on the bottom row do not respond.
Sad as it actually is the best designed phone in my opinion.
Does the phone get hot? i noticed that the phone (close to the camera) gets hot playing games.
Received mine this morning, it's frozen and restarted once, and took ages to restart after freezing.
Ive noticed it getting very hot towards the top half of the screen while i was playing dungeon defenders.
It's a shame, because i really like this handset.

mine working like it should be without any reboots and other stuffs
about battery, 10% and charge for at least 1 week til full , then back to normal charging (someone advice)
Yes same for me... multiple reboots per day. Brand new.. Cool phone but unstable
I have used Arc 3 days now... One reboot on 1st day... Otherwise no reboots
I also have this problem for the 4th time since wednesday last week.
And it is completely random. Phone never gets hot when this happen. One time it happend when it was idle.
I have contacted SE about this issue and they do not know about this problem.
So i am gonna exchange mine for a new one tomorrow.
Oh yeah, and i also cannot pair with my nokia 3100 carkit. I think this is software related problem. My desire had this problem also with some gingerbread roms, other gingerbread roms were fine. So i hope SE will update to 2.3.3 soon.
Mine rebooted only once on 3 days while in idle.
Not a big deal, I think it's because of 2.3.2
Wait for an official upgrade to 2.3.3 or custom roms
So far it never rebooted in idle, but what I recognized is that the phone rebooted several times when connected to the PC or when syncing Music with MediaGo...
Don't know why it occurs, but it happens regularly when I'm connected to the PC and is quite annoying tbh, especially when trying to transfer something like an ISO...
Actually, when trying to transfer Gran Turismo 2 it ALWAYS reboots
Sorry, double post. Pls delete.
Same here. I have several reboots every day.

May be we are using som apps which currently are not Gingerbread friendly??
thats true ... playing a game like flying attack or somthing like this HD ... it will get hot close to the camera ..
I ve had a reboot while riding to work with music playing.
I wouldnt of minded so much if the start up time wasnt as bad as an Iphone.
mine rebooted like 5 times today, usually just after ive used it and put it down on my desk, it suddenly reboots, anyone found out why? could not find any information anywhere other than the 2.3.2 issue
i'm using my Arc for 7 days and it never rebooted by itself. Are you guys playing while in the charger? i noticed it gets hot when it's in the charger.
in the weekend arc was idle for 64hours than i did a reboot because the music player couldn't play any music. now is the phone on for 67 hours no auto reboot. played games, listen to music, browsed the web.
3 days in now and haven't had a single reboot ad yet

Hey,
I have had an HTC Desire for about 18 months now and I rooted it about 6 months ago with a CyanogenMod ROM. It has developed major overheating issue and continuously shut downs when it gets too hot or run a processor-intensive application. I have heard that de-rooting the device could help solve these issues and am ignorant to the steps involved as I am unable to connect my phone via HTC sync to install a factory ROM on it.
I have read several topics and have come up blank. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but any help and information anyone could provide me with would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
have you overclocked your phone ? (can you check your cpu settings )
maybe your cpu settings are to high , high cpu set may cause overheating and instability , have you tried other cm roms ? i find if i overclock my phone it warms up faster etc and becomes unstable
There are 2 things here.
Is it rebooting at intense activity and NOT overheating? If so, Overclocked at too high a frequency for your CPU to take -Take the overclocking down a Notch.
Is it rebooting at intense activity and IS overheating? If so, most likely hardware fault (PVT1 Faulty Motherboard most likely) - Return to stock and send to HTC for repair.
Overclocking itself should not cause overheating as most kernels are UNDERvolted, meaning even at overclocked frequencies, they are not using more power, meaning they are not generating more heat. An exception to this is ManU kernels, where it uses 1350mA at the high end, where stock kernels use 1300

Most likely a motherboard fault. I encountered the same thing.
seriously? ****... i've dropped mine once so they won't repair the damage probably... I'm having a similar problem.. though after i've flashed a recovery image, there's no problem!
I had mine repaired...3 times. Was constantly overheating and shutting down. Was a major let down when was using it as a car navigation. 10mins and it goes off just in front of a crossroad So after all it just turned off and..that's it. So my first repair was made in official Czech centre - got it back after a few weeks and it did work for a whole day..Then I plugged it into a wall charger, opened a game and just noticed the temp rising up to 43C..couldn't do anything, the next moment it was dead. Sent to repairs, got back after..a week. It didn't even turn on (sic!), so the guys at UK repair centre didn't even test it. But after another trial it's all good. I've rooted it, installed MIUI and just today S-OFF'ed it and flashed a custom HBOOT and now have a "BONUS" 130 megs. That's my story.
I've had similar problems and from what I read it is a hardware issue related to the motherboard that they will fix if your under warantee but programs like angry birds and navigation make it happen every time I use them with most roms. Some roms are heavier and more prone to reboots the roms I experience the least overheating reboots with are miui and oxygen but I love sense so just use a sense Rom and don't use games and navigation. A bit cr*?$%p I know.

Hi,the ho is one of my favourites phones, but the integrated battery is the worst choise that HTC could do
now i Have an HD2,and with my daily use it survive only 10/13 hours
I want that my net phone survive at least 18 hours with these use:
-brightness 30% or auto
-wifi on at least 6/7 hours
-skype (only chat)
-gmail
-facebook messanger
-80 sms
-10 minutes of call
-2 hours of internet (also with 3G)
-30 minutes of games
The hox can survive 18 hours with my use?
i am also worried about the battery life. i am planning to buy HOX. what issues i should be aware of? mainly i am talking abt hardware issues. before buying the phone i wanna make sure evrything is alright.
my biggest concern is the battery life. i need my one x to survive 13 hours with the below usage:
3hrs of music. ( with screen off )
1hr of games ( mainly simple games like fruit ninja or temple run)
20mins of wifi ( thats very rare. not everyday)
30mins of voice calls over 2g and 6-7 sms.
1hour of movie.( thats also a rare case)
if i unplug the charger at 8:00 a.m how much will i have at 10:00 p.m will the HOX be able to survive it?

With this above usage you need you probably will have 20-30% left (maybe more, depends do you use stock or custom ROM, s tock or custom kernel)

At this rate you will surely survive. Although custom roms will male sure you do with that usage. Dimmed autobrightness and great governing kernels surely made mine last a day and a half. Gpu intensive games will surely drain it within a few hours though.

both hardware and software. i suppose all software problems are solve. i cant exchange it or replace it once i buy it. remember that.
with my use i don't survive for 18 with a custom rom?
First check the screen by putting pressure, usually it's on the left side. You'll notice there'll be some rainbow effects, youtube that.
Second, dead pixels. Find an app with movable with background.(how i got mine replaced).
Lastly and moat crutially, update ota once, should take you to 1.27 or 1.28 base, the defect here is that the lcd from unboxing will work fine. After the ota or even flashing. Part of your screen will literally be unresponsive. Usually that is at the bottom part where you press the "done" or "okay" or your app drawer/dock. Sometimes it's on the top.
Pray your country has an HTC service center man. I travelled a few days to get mine replaced

OMG!!!! i dont even check this much before buying a second-hand phone. crap man. i cant do all these in the shop at most i can check the hardware stuffs. but what if it gives the issues after OTA update. i definitely have a service centre. but they will charge me offcourse. i heard the latest realeses are bug free. the SH 25 version (not sure abt the version number).
i am losing hope to buy the one x man.
A faulty one x is deserves a replacement. Tell your SC that it's defective and you shouldnt be charged if it is still on warranty

is it fair that we talk about fixing the phone. y will it be defected in the first place? Y. my question to HTC. people buy phones with a lot of money. they spend month trying to figure out which one they like more. and after that they spend months in getting the fault free phone and replacing the faulty one. ( like the HOX). its really frustrating. oe or two is okay. but i have seen almost 80 percent replacing their HOX because they got a faulty one. this is not fair. i want a fault free one at my first pick? but the probability is 50-50? this is sick. i never had to check this much for a third-hand phone that i have to do to get a brand new HOX.

80% ? 50:50 ? Watch the results of this polls: THIS and THIS ... and if you know that there are much more voting with a faulty one (people with defects will search for the defect and vote) i dont know how you come to that numbers
May my screenshot will help you solving your battery worries.

Hi I don't know if you guys read my last thread about me being really wanting to extend battery life and reduce heat on my HOX. What I did was simply using Blade Rom + used only 2 cores instead of 4. Performance wasn't really affected (except for gaming) and I was really happy.
But now I really wanted to try something new and was tired of the Sense interface. I ended up flashing tons on mods and bricking my phone. So I had to wipe it fully and reflash. I installed Blade ROM v4.6. Two days later I saw that it had a de-sensing script which sounded nice to me since I was tired of sense. To my amazement (though i don't have exact temperature values), the device is now running much cooler and it feels much nicer in my hands. Still a little warm but much less than on stock or custom(with sense).
I believe Sense to be causing a big percentage of that heat ... well at least this can be derived from my observations. Im not really sure if this has been posted before but I saw a lot of threads dealing with this problem and I hope this helps someone.
P.S When I de-sensed i think its now using Nova Launcher

Theres something wrong with your HoX , my hox never gets *warm* or *hot* on regular use even with all 4 cores on, when playing demanding 3d games (nfs for sintence) it reaches around 35-40C max, while playing it being on charger then it gets *warm* or a little bit *hot* HoX shouldn't be getting *hot* if you're using it normally lol, only while playing 3d games on charger. At least that's how it is for me.
what heat problem??? heat is now ancient history ever since the JB OTA
your HOX or your custom ROM has a problem
Exactly. Now even when playing taxing games like GTA 3, GTA Vice City, NFSMW, the phone stays cool. I remember on ICS< the thing heated till 50 degrees + and shut off by itself ...Thank the lord for the JB update :victory:

You shouldn't be even playing intesive 3d games while on charge , that kind of stuff are killing your battery , not straight away but over the time, anyway once someone said about this *gaming while charging is same as $hitting while eating* =) , anyway it can also depend on your rom/kernel. I used to play games while on chrager due to addictivity of games tho never got really overheating issues, few times since i have it.

ViperX 3.3.2 stock kernel, didn't test it for gaming long period , but gaming seems to be smoother then back in ICS days for the time i tested ( up to 10 mins each game) , didn't overheat or anything durring this 30 min test period for me, tho it's expected if you play for example NFS MF for over a hour or so to get little bit warm, but shouldn't go over 35-40C off the charger, anyway you gotta remember heeting on hox can happen as well if you're in warm room , tested that lol, played NFS in warm room at my house , actually very warm room around 30C and in another room with maybe 10C in the room, phone was much cooler then in the previous room , as for playing it on the charge it got overheated in around 20 mins of playtime in the 30C room and in the 10C room stayed little bit warmer but not overheating. So conclusion = one part of overheating depends on the room temperature lol. which means hox should be literally unplayable with charger when the summer time comes =P (btw this heat test was done back in ICS days not JB , anyway JB seams to be much better for this matter )
- Edit - this was meant for this

Good afternoon to all, I hope you can help me with this situation.
I have 20 days with the HTC 10, and I can not be more disappointed of its performance, and coming from a galaxy s6, but we go by parts.
1- the phone, it gets very hot, very fast, especially after updating to nougat 7, I mean, with 15 20 minutes of surfing on the web, it reaches temperatures between 40-44 C ° (104-111 F °) , At this temperature it is uncomfortable to hold. Is this normal ??
Taking into account that I do not play, I only watch videos, I listen to music and web, because I just did a hard reset, which brings us to point 2.
2 - It is the first time, I update an android version, and a big error appears, once updated to android 7, the keyboard stopped working (swiftkey), so I could not access it because it was protected By password, and the keyboard in the start section, never displayed. I had to do a hard reset with only 15 days of use, seriously WTF!
3- Due to the warm up, the battery life is quite poor (between 3.5 and 4 hours of screen, no play, or take pictures all day, turning off mobile data at times and wifi, is this battery drain normal?
The battery come to exhaust quickly, especially when the phone is very hot, when restarting the phone, it eats 3-5% of battery every time.
When taking photos the same, the battery drops very quickly.
4- I normally play on a PC at 60 fps, the phone when playing video on youtube, has a slight lag or "stuttering", this jumps out at me very easily, although there are people who do not see it at all, I do by The same as I mentioned earlier.
When playing video youtube on the phone, the camera movements are not smooth, there are micro-cuts to the FPS, and it is very annoying.
5- before upgrading to android 7, just install a game, "realm defense, hero legends", a very popular game on android, and felt like it was under 30fps all the time, my previous galaxy s6 handled this very smooth,
6- Points 4 and 5 are solved by activating the "high performance" option in the menu of developers, the lag in the videos disappears completely, and the games feel very good, but with the consequent increase in battery usage and Temperature, seriously WTF again.
The phone according to CPUZ has a load of 15-35% all the time without loading any application, this is normal in andrid 7 ??
The phone is in stock status, with the update of the operator, I have no ROM installed, and I have no idea how to do it, because I would not like to lose the warranty.
Any recommendations to this situation ??
THANKS and excuse my bad English.
May want to ask for a replacement. None of the issues you mentioned here and I have been using this phone for almost a year.
No these are not normal. Obviously something is running around causing the CPU usage and eating the battery. Given how many problems you're having I would do a factory reset, see how it goes without installing any apps. If things get better that'll help your pinpoint the troublesome app(s). If not, a replacement is in order.

I'll second that, although I've only used mine for about six months. I do admit that running Android 6 the phone did seem to get hotter than it does with Android 7.
That being said, when I'm running a game battery life does suck, and it does get warm. I think I'm about 5 to 6 hours of screen on time, but I'm also bone stock with a bunch of extra apps in the background.

Just for reference:

Thank you friend, I am interested to know more about your experience with the phone, why you only had 6 months?
Could you fix some problem that he gave you?
Greetings.
I have HTC 10 for one year and several days, never had those issues.
I admit HTC storage r&w speed is slower than S6 because of emmc5.1, but mine is smooth enough.
I also recognized the battery life is shorter on Android 7.0, but it's a general issue for phones upgraded to this version of Android...Not just HTC10, Sony, Samsung etc also has this problem.
As for SwiftKey stopped working, I have no such an issue, in fact I'm a mod of SwiftKey.
At last for the temperature, mine gets 38 °C while fast charging; 42°C is max while playing heavy games.

Mine gets 40°C Without doing anything, and playing reaches 44-45 °
And it seems ridiculous, that when doing this app can not with the 60fps, for a little ball in 2D.

Again, it reaches almost 60 FPS, activating the high performance mode.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sorry, I should clarify...
I've had the phone for about 7-8 months now (longer than I originally thought, got it back in September of last year...) and got the update to nougat about 4 months ago.
When the phone was running marshmallow, it would get warm while working on tasks that aren't CPU/GPU intensive. With the update to nougat, it definitely helped with the heat production. That's not to say it doesn't get warm... If I'm playing Rayman Classic on full brightness, that phone gets really REALLY warm. But when playing Deus Ex - The Fall, even on high brightness, it doesn't get uncomfortably warm like when playing Rayman. Also, basic tasks don't overheat the phone like they would on MM.
I should note that I typically leave power saver turned on as well. I've found it doesn't affect performance noticeably for myself. I've also had Boost+ optimise all foreground apps from the overheating nightmare on MM, and I hadn't bothered to turn it off... These could play into the heat production of my phone as well...
My time with this awesome phone has been so short due to my contract with my former service provider...
I think most of your issues will get resolved after installing Custom Rom. Infact I am in similar situation like you. I can't root my phone due to warranty. As i know for fact that in my country HTC charge huge amount of money even for small issue. After spending that much money on repair, there is no guarantee that phone will work fine cause engineers are not capable enough, maybe cost cutting by HTC. Meanwhile i would suggest select SRGB instead of Vivid display, it will surely reduce heating problem to some extent.
