e4gt on pageplus - how do i get 3g? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have just a couple of questions. I just picked up an e4gt and I am going to flash it to Page Plus.
1. I see that I will only achieve 1x with the flash, I don't even remember what a speed difference that is. Is it terrible? I am not a heavy cell data user (most of the time have wifi) but I don't want it to be unusable.
2. Does anyone have info on using a donor phone to get 3g to work on the flashed phone?
Any other users out there that have e4gt on pageplus have any comments? How do you like the setup? I have a droid x2 on pp now and I have enjoyed it.
Thanks!

Usually u need the HA and AAA passwords from the donor to get 3g and then will need the APN settings to get MMS working. However idk if that works with pageplus or if you are limited to 1x only. You will have to Google how to retrieve the passwords tho
We are legion, for we are many.

Thanks Evil,
I appreciate the info. I'm hoping to talk to someone who has done it. I've done some hacking/flashing for a few years, but consider myself more of a dabbler and less of a pioneer. Although I'm willing to try things.
Trey

I'm on pageplus, the 1x data is painfully slow to the point I may end up just shelling out the extra 15 bucks a month to get on Boost.

Just buy a cheap verizon android phone on ebay for like $20 (make sure it has a clean esn) and then activate that phone on page plus and then clone your epic touch to be cheap verizon phone. Easy

"Easy" I love that..... I've never seen a guide to cloning. Is it really "Easy". Everyone says getting the shared secrets is difficult.

OK well I guess it isn't easy. But if you do your research there a plenty of guides out there. They may not be for page plus but they are for similar cdma carriers and the process is generally the same. Some of the input values are just slightly different.
Edit: I am really considering switching to page plus in the next couple months as I am so sick of virgins horrible data speeds and I miss the reliability of the Verizon network.

Hmm is it because they were really long? I think for now I am gonna stay with Virgin but I got my lg ally in the mail and was able to read a the Nam and data settings. I might just save that for when I can get a bad esn galaxy s3 for a good deal and then switch over. I just wish page plus offered a little more data on their $30 and $40 plans. 100MB is pretty slim even with wifi everywhere. However I would have no problem with 500MB a month or even 250MB would be OK for me.

Wanna have your shot at TRULY UNLIMITED UNTHROTTLED data on T-Mobile USA?

This trick has been around for a while. I have been using it since the G2x days and haven't abandoned it yet. It works on my GS2 and it has been working on my Galaxy Nexus as well. Create a new APN with the exact same settings as I post here. I am still working to find out what (if anything) needs to be changed on the MMS end but thought I'd go ahead and share this. Enjoy!
*Disclaimer* This will not work for everyone! You could possibly still get throttled. In my personal experience, it stops my data counter altogether. For other people, they just go beyond the throttle threshold. Find out where you stand. **HINT** I'd recommend only changing to this once you're nearing the end of your cycle and before you are throttled.
Has anyone given this a try yet? I'd like to know how you guys are fairing on speed tests? I have been seeing better speeds with this apn at my apartment which is kinda like a big bunker. Lol.
It works on my gs2

Lol, I don't want to broadcast faster speeds on the new apn but as far as my apartment goes - they are faster. (Then again, I don't really ever use my cellular data at home anyway.) I just like to put a much larger emphasis on avoiding being throttled!
This is bull****.
Last night I burned through my 5GBs. Now the internet feels slower than a 56K modem.
Today, I tried this "trick", same speeds....

You do it before being throttled. Not after. Don't call it bull**** because you didn't follow directions. It's funny how I and other people have plenty of success with this but you, the person who fails to follow directions, comes in here to act like it doesn't work. One of the most important things to do when doing most anything on xda is read and follow directions.

Well, some people fly under the radar. Some people get throttled eventually. Lastly, some people get throttled like normal. Trying it out isn't for the feint of heart because you never know which one you'll be until you try.
This is why I recommend trying it near the end of your cycle so you don't have much to lose. Sometimes sim swapping helps too.

I think he post just for fun nothing to do with proud thing
Cause I use more data than he does and not even one month.two more weeks left
I was pretty surprised that I've used close to amount (last I checked a few days ago, 50GB). No tethering no Torrenting. But it seems that the Gallery likes to use nearly 2GB of data in the background every time I set up a new ROM or Reflash. That plus all the Roms and re downloading of apps from the Store. And more recently, the purchase of a couple HD movies and a hand full of re downloads of the Avengers movie.
77Gb on HSPA+? Come to my area Whole brooklyn gets like 0-0.20Mbit, Loading Netflix or Youtube is virtually impossible here. Called T-mobile they said they're fixing tower, well 4 Months and still fixing it? Good thing I have pre-paid I can cancel any time

At first they said excessive roaming, but that was bs because I never leave home. So they investigated further and said it was due to "tethering without a tethering plan." No warning, nothing. I woke up and was shut off this morning. I love downloading full albums and movies. I suppose I could have challenged them for having "unlimited data" but screw it. I'll get a Nexus 4 off contract w/Tmo unlimited 70 bucks a month.

It was probably roaming while they are doing NV upgrades. If it was really for tethering you wouldn't have gotten out etf free. They would have either opted for you to add tethering or would have just added it to your next bill. What tethering app were u using?

Technically they can't tell you were tethering unless you were using the sprint hotspot. They can *claim* you were cuz of desktop protocols, but just tell em your browser on your phone is set to desktop user agent which uses the same protocols as your desktop browser. Most likely you were roaming due to the upgrades going on and whatever carrier you roamed on claimed you were tethering. At least you didn't have to pay the etf.

Android to android is even more incognito than android to windows/linux/mac, but the more advanced phone browsers and apps become the harder it is to tell the difference between mobile and desktop data packets. I would say in the next 5 years all internet capable devices will be using almost identical protocols to access the web which means all data would look the same to anyone sniffing packets. I'm grandfathered in on an unlimited tethering plan on my work line and I use upwards of 100GBs a month on it for work and I tether my personal line (same account) to my tablet and laptop and have been for 3 years and sprint never says anything. Between the 5 lines on our account we average 250GB a month.
I like to break stuff!
Just a quick ?, OP have you looked at your usage on sprint.com to see your roaming usage?? Just wondering if Sprint is about to crack down on tethering or if it was roaming which we all know they crack down on. Thanks for any info....and I wouldnt sell for less than $300 BTW but depends how quick you need the cash, think about the fact no one can get an android able to run jb on sprint for under $450 from retail.

Flash phone because can't pay bill

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to flash to a different carrier such as virgin mobile, straight talk, boost mobile, cricket, etc. Prepaid, something cheaper than $80-90 a month for unlimited everything. Also, will they blacklist or give my phone a bad ESN if I don't pay my bill? I just started my contract. Thank you.

If they did not get their end of the bargain, you won't get yours too, so pay your bills or just pay the ETF and sell off your phone.
You can flash it to other CDMA carriers, search for it around here.

Blacklist only works per carrier. Verizon blocks Verizon, sprint blocks sprint etc. Cricket wont block a Verizon phone.

For the time being, this is half true. Nationally, a carrier independent database is currently in works. Per CTIA's last report to the FCC on the subject, the GSM database was complete Oct 2012 and the LTE database will be up and running this November. Additionally, both VZW and Sprint are currently participating in multi-carrier databases that are a bit more limited than the one that will roll out later this year. Coupled with this, the FCC is championing legislation that will criminalize modifying a device's IMEI to circumvent blacklisting.
So, my bill is due today. I want to flash it to cricket and Really want to keep my number. Will it work?

No. Don't sign a contract you don't intend to fulfill.

More than likely Verizon wont release your number if you owe money. Cricket will gladly give you a new number if your old one cant be ported.

No. They will not release a number when you still owe them a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, this isn't something that will just go away. You will get hounded for the money you owe. First by Verizon, and then by a third party debt collector. It will negatively affect your credit and there exists a possibility that a court judgment could be sought against you. On the off chance it comes to that, you'd be looking at owing more than the past due amount and ETF.
Have you tried calling Verizon and working with them to adjust your level of service to something you can afford at this time? Another option would be to sell the phone on Craigslist and use that to pay down the ETF. You could then get a prepaid phone which will assist in keeping your usage manageable until you're in a better situation financially.
Just a small example of how and why our economy is so f'd up.
good day.
Unless you don't care for the carrier, call them and see if you can work something out, like splitting your bill over two months and changing the plan.

I'm pretty sure that when I was in the military, I learned how to manage my damn finances.

I think there are 2 points here:
1. Berating strangers on the internet is just as unwise and unjust as doing so in person. We can't judge someone else's hardships and we have no right to try. Savings and planning can only go so far in the face of emergencies.
2. Solving financial problems by planning to violate your phone contract is also unwise and unjust. Contracts are binding (and if one person breaks them the cost gets passed on to everyone else), and emergencies are what savings and planning are for.
I, personally at least, think this thread is best resolved by saying: OP, I'm glad you worked it out with your provider without breaking your contract. Congratulations on your baby. Without knowing what emergency you are facing, I hope your next few months go better for you. Thank you for your service.
