WiFi signal decreases with case - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I searched online to see if I could find others with this issue. For all intensive purposes I get great WiFi reception with phone. So it's usually not too much of an issue. I do notice a difference with the case on and off. I spend a lot of time upstairs far away from many router which at times makes browsing the web painful and slow. With out the case it runs a lot faster. I am using the t-mobile d30 case I bought in store. Anyone else have this issue?

As the title says. It fits perfect and actually adds a little weight to the phone. Let me know if you have any questions...
UPDATE: I JUST LEARNED THAT THESE BATTERY COVERS DRASTICALLY REDUCE LTE SPEEDS!!!!!! I WILL BE RETURNING THIS ASAP FOR ONE OF THESE http://www.ebay.com/itm/261059674646?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_1127

This. I've heard reports of these covers interfering with Wi-Fi and NFC connections.
Wifi is cool, no changes. I don't have any way to test nfc yet
I can confirm that nfc does NOT work. I have one of these on my phone and everytime I gotta use nfc I have to remove the cover... its a pain in the ass.. :/

Anytime I go to 7-11. Sometimes once a day and end of the day when I get home for my textile. Currently I have the stock one on cuz It got annoying to pull my case off and battery cover to use but each their own. If u hardly use nfc it wont matter that much. I do agree tho the phone feels alot more solid with it on.

Not to mention kill NFC capability and diminish wi-fi connectivity.
I ordered the white carbon fiber one so I can be unbranded! Thanks OP
Blazing Galaxy S3
Just got my blue version of this battery door in today. Love it! Looks way better than the stock door, makes the phone feel like higher quality, adds a little weight, and snaps on tighter than the stock door. So far testing it in my house, my wifi signal and cell signal are the same with the battery door on and off and i dont use NFC so i can test that....
it knocked down my 4g from 30 mb to 11 mb......

I'm getting the carbon fiber one, I was looking for a similar one. Thank you
Just did some speed tests... Getting no speed loss at all on wifi, and it actually was better on 3g. Lol. Don't have any 4g test results yet though.

Blue Incipio double cover from Verizon (pictures)

Just received it today from Verizon online. The color is real close to the pebble blue color. It just has a eggshell finish. It does not come with a screen protector however they did include a phone stand. Buttons work great!

I got mine my a verizon store. they mustve been out
Thanks for the pics. Is this case one or two pieces? Also, do you think it's a case that could easily be removed and put back on several times a day with ease and not lose it's grip or form? I'm asking because I'm very interested in this case but I'm also getting a car dock and whether I get a universal dock or custom dock depends on if the case I'm using can be easily removed. Also, how do you think it would protect against drops versus slightly bulkier cases like the Otterbox Commuter or Seidio Active cases? Thanks very much.
It's two pieces much like a seidio active case. It is real easy to install and remove.
Here is a video review of a different color one from sprint. The Verizon one has a stand instead of the screen protector.

I have the white version of the case and I'm not impressed. It feels a little too big and bulky. I put it on my SG3 for about 15 minutes before I decided it wasn't for me. I put it back in the packaging and it's like new. If anybody wants it I'll take $15 shipped anywhere in the US.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
To me the thickness is about right. Its still less bulk than the commuter. I like a little protection for this huge expensive screen.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I have this same case only in a different color blue which I actually like better. It is a brighter blue and I believe it is a T-Mobile exclusive. I think the case is nice and offers good protection for the size. It doesn't add much thickness at all but I do have one complaint which is why I'm returning it. The cell signal and Wifi signal are effected by the case. I've done numerous tests and on average, you lose two bars of WiFi and roughly 2-3mb/s download speeds on 4G. To me, the protection is not worth the signal trade off.
Strange, I haven't experienced any signal loss.

If you are on WiFi, take the case off and move to a location where you are only getting two bars. Then apply the case and watch the bars drop off. I've already done the testing with my phone, my wife's phone and a co-workers phone.

Pretty much all cases affect signal quality a bit. No reason to freak out about it. The added protection tradeoff is worth it.
edit: and just for ref here's the antenna locations from the sgs3 fcc filing:
Mine holds steady, maybe your t-mobile case is made from different material.

I dropped from .87dBm to .81dBm.
Wireless held steady.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
This is the one I got from T-Mobile. Maybe it is a different case than the one you have and don't get any signal loss with. It is called the Silicrylic Dual Protection. I highly doubt Incipio changed the material for T-Mobile and only T-Mobile. Maybe it's the color....
IIRC tge shiny versions have some metal in them and hurt reception. The traditional silicrylics (like the VZW and others)are only silicone and poly carbonate. I have no issues on multiple phones with their traditional versions.

I have the white and grey one. I noticed that today the volume buttons have ripped away a bit. I will be returning it to the Verizon store for an exchange. It's only 3 days old. I like the case, but the silicone part is cut back a bit around the buttons, and makes it weak which caused mine to rip. Im hoping it's a fluke because it's a nice case with a good feel.

Highly suggest enabling "Power savings" in the settings. This will help battery life and doesn't make the phone as hot to the touch. Other than that, invest in a great case. You will love the phone!
Id highly recommend not enabling power save mode. I don't feel it's worth the performance hit. I get great battery life still and the phone has never been hot to touch for me.

And if you decide to root/rom backup your IMEI information as well prior to doing that.
If you're not a flashoholic, Google Wallet fix is a nice little feature.
Don't buy a case that has a metal back(blocks NFC)
Before buying ALWAYS check Radio Shack pricing(usually they are ~$50 cheaper than AT&T store directly)
I would suggest reading these forums regularly, especially if you plan on modding your phone. Little things can screw stuff up and you dont want to be left helpless . Lot of interesting stuff if you browse other posts and threads... Learn as you go .
In general the phone is great. Maybe some things are missing comparing to the international version but nothing major.
Yes don't go to att store go to radio shack picked up mine for 150$

Install CM10 or AOKP.
Get a good case + screen protector.
Walk outside with one before you buy. Make sure you can live with the screen.
definitely don't go to at&t store, the shack hooked up mines for under 100!
from MIB galaxy SIII
Check amazon, wirefly, bestbuy, and radioshack. Compare the prices and look for specials sometimes bestbuy gives free stuff with the phone exclusively like a case or Screen protector.

Find someone who needs to make quota and you can pick one up for around $100-$150, depending on your social skills, and might be able to pick up some accessories near cost. The Samsung flip cases are pretty legit. They replace the back cover.
Get the Invisible Shield HD for the screen, and then get a skin/maximum coverage for the rest if you don't plan on using a case. The HD is so much nicer than the original Invisible Shield. The texture is smoother so it feels more like glass and I've noticed that it's easier to use when it's humid than the original model as well.
I dont know who's gonna let you walk outside with one (makes me laugh when I picture some one saying "I just want to see it in the sunlight ").

Lol no kidding.
If you have a friend with one, just ask them to take it out in the sun. Yes it irks me to have a crappy screen in the sun, but it's just a matter of downloading a brightness app or setting it to auto before you go out (if it isn't already). Minor annoyances for arguably the best phone on the market. You won't be disappointed.

This is the first phone I've ever set auto brightness to on and left it on. It does a great job figuring it out. I haven't had any direct sunlight problems.
As for OP, the phone will get warm under heavy usage. I usually use GPS and bluetooth at the same time while I'm in the car and if my phone wasn't in a case, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to pick it up. Also, keep a charger handy whenever you go, especially in the afternoons. I charge my phone overnight but by 1pm, I'm down to 50% battery and need a little boost.
if you do get a case (and you should) I would strongly recommend otterbox.

Caps are appropriate imo, back up that imei if you plan to do any flashing at all, period.
Also, make a nandroid, having one saved me a ton of grief during my recent "nuked my imei, have no imei backup, omg what do I do" adventures. Restoring the nandroid backup didn't recover my imei, but it did help me on the path to getting back to a working phone ;\

Anyone not have their SIII in a case?

Just curious. I got my SIII on the 29th and haven't bothered with a case yet. My previous phone was an archaic Motorola Razr V3m that I had for 5 years and in that time I only dropped it a couple times on the carpet, and once it hit my closet door track which did put a ding on it. I'm thinking of just forgoing a case.
Only have ghost armor in mine. No hard case.
Dropped quite a few times. Usually just the battery case pops off in the harder falls. One fall left an slight dent that I didn't even notice till later.
Have dropped on sides and front. No screen cracks yet. No scratches...only because of the skin that covers the full body.

Never bother with cases, bulky, ugly and unpractical. Had everything from a Nokia to iPhone 4s. Dropped all at least once when getting out of the car with my good luck none ever broke just a chip lol. However a screen protector is a must for resale value, most people don't care about the back.

This was a common issue with the t989(s2) right out of the box it's a defect call T-Mobile and get a free warranty replacement. Yeah I plan on keeping mine for a while at least when my manufactures warranty is coming to an end I'll have a legit reason to get a brand new/refurb phone.
Yea those dark spots were bad on the t989 actually very bad. The gs3 is a long way from that but this is definitely the result of their amoled screen
I'm using a D30 case from T-Mobile but I have never dropped my phone, I rarely leave it out unless it's on the charger when I'm in bed. I don't get how people don't protect their devices in some way.

Ebay aluminum battery cover causes interference

Bought an aluminum battery cover for my s3 on ebay and quickly learned it was not a good buy. It interfered with reception. All day I kept dropping lte signal (at&t) and pushed to haspa....and at one point edge service... in my area I rarely lose lte (Philadelphia region). I recorded a marked difference in signal and posted it on YouTube
