Hey guys,
Tried searching everywhere to no avail so now I'm asking for help.
I have Google wallet installed on my phone on Kyanrom. Tried other roms as well. It signs in, loads up and says I have the 10.00 credit. Says card selected, everything seems fine. Tried it at Tim hortons, mcdonalds and a gas station, no response from either side whatsoever. Have had the build.prop mods done as galaxy nexus, still nothing.
One other thing I'm wondering, I had the nexus s and wallet worked great. But I also noticed that on the back cover of the phone there were 2 metal terminals that connected to two other ones in the phone so nfc would work only when the back cover was on. However, don't know if its just my model but I see the two terminals on the back of the phone but no metal connectors on the back cover itself, which is making me wonder if they are intentionally not there to block Google wallet where I live?
My model is Telus I747M and I live in Ottawa. Anyone that could help with some info would be seriously appreciated as this is driving me nuts!
Thanks in advance!

I don't think the wallet is available in Canada. i tried to register it but it required me to register a US address. It wouldn't let me change to a CDN address. I could be wrong.

NFC is now built into the battery. So the prongs that connected to the NFC chip on the battery door of the nexus s are not needed. As far as your problem I am sure it is a software issue not a hardware one, but that is as much as I can tell you.

Hey guies,
Just got my GNEX in the mail today, popped my sim card in, turned it on, and I get this BS "no sim card." After taking the sim card out and putting it back in I got it to work eventually. However, after updating to 4.0.4, it stopped working again.
I'm on SM.
What do?
Try a new sim card. If problem still persists, exchange phone.
butter and jelly please...
Popped a T-Mobile sim card in, and it started working. Doesn't recognize the Simple Mobile sim tho, but my other 3 phones do... I noticed the SP sim is a little smaller too, just a tiny but smaller. Maybe the contact aren't lining up.
any suggestions?
You must be mad getting your phone and having it not work. Mine officially shipped today. Try moving your simcard into different positions. You said sm Sim is smaller so maybe push it up more if that makes sense?

Call Simple Mobile and ask for a new sim. You should be able to keep your number

It doesn't matter. It's defective. I had a bad SIM for over a year (didn't know I could just replace it). It didn't work at all on my Android phone but worked on every other phone I tried just fine. I had to restart my phone into airplane mode and wait about 20-30 seconds before it would work. When I got my Nexus it didn't work at all so I finally replaced the SIM and it works just fine. So just replace it.
I tried another sim in my GNex and saw this issue temporarily. I also use simple mobile, like the cheap plan but hate the custservice.
Try this...take the battery out then the sim. Put the sim in then the battery and power on. I then toggled wifi a couple times and it detected the sim.
I have not seen the problem again but have only removed the sim once since then.

It's working perfectly fine now, thank you.
OK, so I was gonna go to this place, and then I realized that my GNex had no signal! No whatsoever. It did spike up to full for like 30 seconds and got no signal again... Why does it do that? I did drop my phone before I noticed it, but when I dropped it, it still had full service, so I don't think that's it. I also flashed from yakjuux to takju (including radio and bootloader) but I did that few days ago and had no problem until today.
Since, it is still disconnected, I went to settings-mobile networks-available networks and then clicked Koodo (My carrier), then the message popped up saying "Cannot connect to this network right now. Please try again later." and now, I have this notification saying "Selected network (Koodo) is unavailable"
Does this mean that my carrier's sevice is off right now? Or does this mean that my phone is broken? Or does this mean that my SIM card is broken? I need answer ASAP!
Can anyone please help me? I really need to call and text people

The same thing happened to me yesterday around 17:30. I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus. I'm on T-Mobile's monthly 4g prepaid plan, so I thought the coverage was just spotty. When I got home the next day I noticed it was still like it. I called T-mobile to ask if there was a service disruption, and the rep informed me that there was not, but to bring it in. Indeed the rep himself was using a GSM Galaxy Nexus, and he had 4 bars. He even changed my sim and it still wouldn't pick up a signal. It's either the 4.1 update, which he had also, or we have bad radios.

Radio hardware or software? If software, can you give me link to the better radio? If hardware... I guess I gotta ask the seller to give me the receipt so I can tell Sammy... This is second time my GNEX breaking... I am getting too impatient...

Should use another phone to call your carrier and see whatsup.
How have you modified your phone? If you're stock, then its not your software. There's nothing in the 4.1 update or any of that that's known to be a bug with network connections.
Also, have you tried completely doing a factory reset and/or some airplane mode toggles or reboots?

Highly doubt that a radio flash can fix this. Sounds like a tower/network issue or something you changed in your phone's settings. Sporadic network outages DO happen.

I can guarantee you that it's not tower problem cuz my dad's Nexus S handles Koodo SIM just fine. If you are saying the truth... I am officially screwed since I got no receipt for the GNEX. I did email the seller of this GNEX if he can help me, but he didn't reply yet. Of course, that was few minutes ago and he probably didn't even check his email. I didn't change anything that can disrupt my cell connection. Also I am running stock and I did factory reset and the problem still occurs... Do you think this is because I dropped my phone?

Very likely could be the issue. Surely the seller isn't going to help you out if you dropped your phone... I'd make sure all of the pins in the SIM tray are working etc and its not damaged. That's easy to see at least.
Unless you can confirm your SIM is working fine in another phone, I'd still call to see if that SIM's account is all in order and active.

Just look at the tray and see if the pins are damaged or bent.
If somethings "broken", its likely something broken internal from when you dropped it.
Did you take the SIM out and use it in another phone to confirm 100% that your account/SIM is working properly? This is just part of troubleshooting... super easy and quick way to eliminate one potential problem.

Depends on the damage. It might be easy as bending some prongs, might be as much work as replacing the SIM tray. Unless it dropped at a really weird angle though, I doubt the SIM tray got damaged... the reason I recommend it is its the easiest thing to check without disassembling the phone. Everything else inside is much much harder to diagnose.
Like I've said over and over, if you've done a factory reset (and are on stock firmware) / reboots and the problem persists, its not a firmware/software issue. Also, if your SIM works fine, then likely you severely damaged something inside the device when you dropped it.

Dammit.... I heard that fixing hardware related stuff is very expensive... Hopefully it's only some part of the phone that you can replace that is damaged, not something that I need to replace motherboard for... Thank you so much for your efforts... I guess if it's not sim tray problem, I am officially screwed and probably have to put down over 100bucks...

Hey all,
so I bought a SGS2 from a friend for $50 since he upgraded, and everything on the phone works fine except it doesn't get any signal. I figured for $50 I would try and see if I can get it working. I don't exactly know what all he did to the phone, but he did install a custom rom on it. I have tried to install different radios, returned it to stock, tried to use the gsii_repair app on the market (keeps giving me an error about the nv_data.bin file not being found) all to no avail. Everything on the phone works like I said, but it just stays showing the circle with the line through it on the top and when I go to About Phone it shows the IMEI number correctly but Network is unknown, Mobile Network Type is unknown, Mobile Network State is disconnected. My sim card works just fine in my Sensation 4g. If anyone knows how to resolve this problem I would be very grateful. otherwise I guess I can just sell it on ebay for parts.
thanks!
Sounds like tmobile blocked the imei.

Have you factory reset it?? or tried the ics stock radio zip from the dev section?
Hi forums,
I recieved my Galaxy Nexus i9250 european GSM/HSPA+ Version today (Just the tether-slave for my N7 and a phone obviously) but now I have the problem that it won't read any SIM i put in it, I've tried 2 Vodafones and 1 T-Mobile (all 3 are working perfectly fine on other Phones) the problem is that it won't know if it has a SIM in it or not, I don't have to enter a password when I boot up or go out of airplane-mode, I can't connect to any networks or change APNs and I can't change the SIM-PIN (no option for that)
What I've tried so far:
I got it with 4.2.2, I've flashed 4.3 several times, did factory-resets, OEM-Lock and unlock, flashed a few different basebands. I also tried to bend the Pins a little bit upwards, they definetly have contact with the SIMs.
I have no idea what else I could do, I have about one year of warranty left over, should I use it or is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for your time and help in advance!
Greetings from germany.
The SIM tray is busted. I'd get a refund if I were you.

Indeed it was, 3 whole pins were missing! I just took the pins from an old phone and soldered them on there, now it works but That's only a temporary solution, I ordered a whole new Sim-tray and will give the phone to a friend with proper gear for this kind of stuff (really annoying to try and do it with a big soldering iron...)
Warranty might be screwed now but I'm not sure if I would have gotten a replacement at all, I guess not but anyway, I waited two weeks for this baby and didn't want to send it away again but I don't recommend doing this at all
Thanks for your help!
Oh and BTW I figured out what might have caused that, I used a micro SIM in a mini-SIM-Adapter, not such a good idea since this makes the card much thicker, I think that killed it. Ordered a new Sim as well.
Ok so I spent an hour this morning talking to technical support for Straight Talk and they did everything on their end to help with this. For some reason my phone has stopped connecting to the networks. I have full bars, but no data symbols. If I try to make a call it says "Not registered on network". My service is active and I have another week until I need to refill. APN settings are set up correctly, mobile data enabled, airplane mode off, etc. I tried restarting the phone, pulling the battery, pulling the sim card, with no avail. I can't figure out what's going on but I'm pretty sure it's the phone causing the issue. I've come to the xda community for help in this time of great turmoil!
Anyway, here's my phone info:
Phone: SGH-T889
Rom: Android 4.3 Conch Republic Edition 3D
Bootloader/Baseband/PDA: T889UVUCMK7
Fresh wipe and rom install.
Using Straight Talk BYOP service.
If anyone has suggestions on what might be the problem let me know! If I need to add more info about the phone let me know. Everything was working fine before the weekend then all of a sudden it took a crap on me. Thanks guys
Did you buy the phone new. If not, have you checked the imei against tmobile's blacklist?
Unfortunately I bought it off someone on Craigslist a long time ago and it just now got blacklisted. Learned all about those crappy details today. Sucks... but I got good use from the phone. I guess I need to resell it as a blacklisted phone if anyone will actually take it. Gaaahhh!
Thanks for the response.
