[APP] GVM: Galaxy Volume Modifier - v1.0.2 - JellyBean FC Fix - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

NOTE: This is ONLY for rooted, International Samsung Galaxy S III's. It will not work on any other model as far as I know.
If anyone's been following my thread on SGS3 volume hacks and modifications you'll most likely already know what this app does, if not, here's the thread which should explain everything you need to know!
Now, this is by no means finished, it's simply a 'proof-of-concept' app at the moment, showing that it does indeed work in app form!
UPDATE 17/08/12: I'd consider this fully in beta and no longer just a 'proof-of-concept'. So far, the Speaker, In-Call and Ringtone options are done.
Requirements
- An International Samsung Galaxy S III with Root Access and Busybox
- The ROM you're running must be a Samsung ROM (i.e. not CM)
- A knowledge of ADB, Fastboot and the flashing process, just in case.
Features

You can alter the "Output Volume" and the "Boost Volume" for the Earpiece, Speaker, Headset, Headphones and Dock for the Normal sound, the In-Call sound and the Ringtone ("Dock" options not available for 'In-Call').
GVM will also now read from the file and fill in the current values that are in use.
The "Output Volume", by default, is set to 50 and can reach a maximum of 63. The "Boost Volume", on the other hand, isn't used normally (so it's default is 0) but can be increased to 55 (the combination of 63 and 55 is the loudest you can possibly push this phone, via this method, and is NOT recommended as it is insanely loud and distorts horribly!).
If you have already altered the "default_gain.conf" file on your device it should still work fine provided you haven't added any new lines or screwed about with the format. In any case, it's probably wise to replace it with the version attached to this post, just so everything still works smoothly (open the .zip and move the file inside, the "default_gain.conf", to "/system/etc/" and you're good to go!)
Bugs/Upcoming Features
- The "Terms and Conditions" page opens every time you open then app. This will be changed to only the first time.
- The values you can enter are not limited, so you can input higher values than 63. It will simply "break" the audio on your device until you change it back.
- All the other options (such as "In-Call" and "Ringtone") will be added in soon.
- It doesn't currently "read" from the file and fill in the current values. This is a planned feature.
Change Log
V1.0.2 - 29/08/2012
- There's now an option to flash the original 'default_gain.conf' for those of you who have edited ones
- Force Close on Jelly Bean has been fixed (permission problem)
- Now displays a message each time you apply to let you know it has finished
V1.0.1 - 17/08/2012
- 'Terms and Conditions' only appears once when you first run the app
- 'In-Call' and 'Ringtone' pages added
- The app now reads from the 'default_gain.conf' file and fills in the values you are currently using for you
v1.0.0 - Release Beta
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Enjoy!

I'm assuming that this only works on Samsung roms.

Yes i was thinking the same...
You can tweak it the same on cm9/10 manually though! (it's quite easy..)

Works like a charm

Hi,
Meltus, so for the SIII Volume+ is no longer needed? "GVM" only for the SIII (obviously ) and Volume+ is more a "generic" app?
With this new app+your sound hack all is ok?
Or I misunderstood something? Because with SiyahKernel (which comes with some sound modifications) Volume+ was not great, I mean no much more improvement like on my Gnex. So with "GVM" it's good...?
Thanks
EDIT: note, you will tell me to try and see ... that's what I'll do
In any case thanks for this and also thanks for Volume+ wich helped me for my Gnex and his poor volume sound

Yeah, it only works for Samsung ROMs at the moment but I might try and add in CM support

That completely depends.
If you only use Volume+ as a generic volume booster then no, it isn't really needed anymore. But Volume+ is an equalizer so you can tweak the sound as much as you like, making it have much more bass or much more treble, etc. This mod simply increases the volume. They should both work fine together, although I've not really tested them that much.

nice app thank you

Would be good if you could have it read the existing values and display them so you know what you are currently at.
Excellent work though.

Man, thanks for creating the app. Is a great idea.
But, I cannot make this nor the manual edit in "[MOD][ROOT] Audio Hacks and Modifications + New Insanely Loud Volume Hack!! (post 2)" work.
This app is only install, give permissions, modifiy & save, and that shoul be it, right? I have the GT-I9300 running stock ROM.
I will wait for a next update.

Did you apply the file attached to the original post? I strongly recommend you do so (otherwise stuff like this might happen )
EDIT: of course, don't forget to back up your current file first!

I'm using your default_gain.conf file from the insane volume thread, the one with your altered values and the extra bit. I take it it's the extra bit causing the issue? Will push the original one over.

Thanks man it work
Also can you provide settings you recommend.
For boost Volume in fact

Yeah, there's a fair few extra edits in that one, it should work with the one from this thread though
I'm going to add in an option to push this file from the app in the next update.

I'd recommend setting the output volume to max (63), the Boost value to 0 and if that seem too high you can start reducing it until you find a good volume. If it's not loud enough for you then you can start increasing the Boost value until you find a good level!

I try this.
The boost Volume is amazing
I recommend to not increase this setting to much.
I try 30 and have a big surprise
My settings are now 60 for output and 5 for boost (for normal and Ringtone) and it seems good.
Anyway your mod is really impressive and with this app it's perfect. :thumbup:
Many thanks

[APP] Turn anoying sounds off v0.5 (Updated 3/4)

Hi XDA,
i made this little app i would like to share with you.
It allows you to test if you have successfully rooted your device and it can turn anoying sounds off.
It has 5 sounds to turn off at the moment, these were the ones i found most anoying on my sgs .
If there are others to turn off or they are named different on your device please tell me.
This is build on the Samsung Galaxy S so it might not work on other devices, but maybe we can get it to work!
This app needs root, to mount /system as read+write and then rename the sound files.
It is pretty safe, everything is reversable and not much can go wrong.
Still, if something explodes, burns or starts radiating, i won't take any responsibility .
Currently supported are:
Battery Full (/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Battery_caution.ogg)
Charger/Usb plugged in (/system/media/audio/ui/Charger_Connection.ogg)
Phone powering off (/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg)
Battery Low (/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Low_Battery.ogg)
Dialer Button(/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Waterdrop.ogg)

Changelog:

v0.4: Added option battery low sound
v0.3:

Will be very helpful if full battery notification is removed, right now I´m on 30 percent, so I can´t give any feedback until tomorrow. Usb sound is not too annoying, but I´d remove it as well. About shutdown sound, I have removed it already with SGS Tools. Thanks!!!
Is shutdown.ogg also used for startup? 'Cause it's about as annoying.
(I usually just turn the phone to Silent before turning it off, it silences shutdown and bootup)
I think the startup sound is part of the bootanimation.
But i will take a look at it.

Do you have a file explorer and could tell me the contents of your
/system/media/audio/ui directory ?
edit: i think i found it, for the mesmerize the shutdown file seems to be "/system/media/audio/ui/0405_PowerOff.mp3"
I will work something out for the next version .
Edit2: I have uploaded a new version, if you could click the new debugInfo button and tell me what it says i can adapt the files paths for the mesmerize .

Thanks, great app!
I believe that the built-in dialer's button sound is there too (TW_Waterdrop.ogg). Could that be turned off too? It's damn annoying, I wonder what drugs the designer did when he/she included it.
Thanks in advance!

It's working, thanks!
Works great !I have waited to someone do an app like this.
I'm sorry, but...
...FOR ME, I repeat, for me its a pointless app, because why bother with the file renaming, if I can simply erase the whole /system/media folder with root access, and then I still can use my own ringtones, without all these annoying default "noises", oh pardon, lets call them sounds.
So now you made an app for something wich can be simply deleted, and then it wont take any memory at all, instead of leaving behind renamed junks.
Btw, I lol'ed about the shutdown.ogg problem; the boot sound is not part of the bootanimation LOL, that comment was just dumb. (no offense, but you can take it if you like, still, I dont mean it that way)

Just flashed this rom, and so far it feels really quick, and snappy, good job fellas, im going to post if i have any issues, but so far everything seems to be in working order, cant wait to see what your team can do!
Rom looks cool, good features, but I suggest cleaning up the post #1, its large, awkward, and hard to follow

Also its the first time that Melvin deals with source so thats why you might find few bugs and not a lot things you can play with, but as soon as he starts getting really familiar with, the ROM will have a lot of features as old versions of beastmod

I will definitely give this a try after the stock keyboard issue is corrected. I used Melvin's Sensation ROM back when I owned that phone. It was pretty good.

Improve Audio

Hello Everyone,
I'm Mentafagyi and today i fetched you a fix for audio. (i know there are a lot of pictures, but its easier to know what am i speaking about )
Fix is good for:
-Speakers
-Any headset
-On ALL Android Systems (Android 2.3 - 4.0.4 + LeWa + MiUi Tested and working, not sure 1.6-2.1)
Requirement:
-Usable brain
-Phone with bad audio quality
-Root
-Android 2.3 and Android 2.3+ or LeWa or MiUi
-Know to flash .zip files in CWM Recovery
What does it do:
-fixes weird and scratchy sounds when on Max volume (speakers or headsets...)
-increases the Maximum Volume of your phone, even on speakers and on headsets
I don't undertake responsibility for any damage!
So lets start:
0.) DELETE APPS LIKE DSP MANAGER, VOLUME+ OR AUDIO HANDLING SOFTWARES (Music player's equalizer is not problem)
(Problem = Apps, what modyfi sounds on whole systen, not just one app)
1.) Download this file: https://hotfile.com/dl/160523830/a559250/Beats_Audio.zip.html
2.) Extract Beats audio.zip
3.) Put beats_aceport.zip and cooper_beatsxaudio.zip files on SD Card
4.) Reboot in CWM Recovery
5.) Flash beats_aceport.zip then flash cooper_beatsxaudio.zip
6.) Reboot
7.) Go to Play Store and search for: equalizer, then download the first one made by Smart Android Apps, LLC (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer)

8.) Start the app, you should see this:
9.) Scroll to the end of the pages, to "Enjoy!" Page, and tick "Don't show again" then press continue
10.) Press the Power On/Off button at the top right corner
11.) Tick everything then click OK
12.) Tick the "Enable auto-detect for presets" and press ok to the Message, what will pop up, then select the Normal preset (with the Android logo)
13.) Scroll the page to "EFFECTS", and set Bass Booster to 100% and set Virtualizer to 60%
14a.) If you want louder sound, and not a big echo, set the thing at the bottom of the page to NONE (Here if you set sound to max theres still Scratchy and Weird Sounds, but you don't have to turn the volume up to the MAX, cause its SO LOUD!)
14b.) If you want louder sound, and a bit bigger echo, set the thing at the bottom of the page to Small Room (Here if you set the sound to max there won't be big weird and scratchy sounds, but you will have a a bit bigger echo)

Thanks for your suggestion
Do i have to set up something?

No, default settings ... maybe some adjustments to the equalizer ... (depends of headphones model )
JetAudio Plus -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jetappfactory.jetaudioplus
wrong section, It should be on themes and apps
This method, or related, already posted at the forum.

It shouldn't be, cause fixing audio is the part of developement.
JetAudio is not good, cause its only a music player, ewualizer makes ALL sounds coming from your mobile, much better

First start with simple modding. Use the dsixda, uot kitchen. Understand how Android works. Learn linux, java, c. All will help in the future.
There are a lot many guides for developing. Just use Google and most of your problems will be solved.

I'm not stupid to Android and Android Apps (I think ) but i can't get Audio FX Widget to work, so i just made a new method to get better sound quality to our lovely beloved Ace
1 more thing:
1. I had an Xperia x8 for 1 year, i was so happy with it, but i just sold it to a girl in my class
2. Then i got my father's gio, i used it for 3 days, then i couldn't format the dalvik-cache, and tryed and tryed many ways... A method sucessed, formated dalvik-cache, but it deleted the whole system and so on on the mobile, so its now in service, it needs a new motherboard
3. I bought an Ace, whats category is S5830i, and i couldn't find any rom, so i changed to an Old Ace, S5830, and now i'm here.
This is why i think i'm not a novice at Android
i moved that to Themes and Apps. Making fixes is a hard work, but this thread doesn't fit to Android Development section. Anyway, good luck with your development

does follow the next Version 2.7.20 too?
i used IT since 2 days and IT feels smoother than Stock miui
thanks for the rom
ROM updated to MIUI 2.9.14. Feedback are welcome. :highfive:
sounds great so i'm going to try and report back.
Q1: how come the file size is a lot smaller than the other miui flavours?
Q2: do we need to flash the gapps if needed? or is it built in?
Do we need to install gapps with this? Also what is 30 step volume feature?
Also can anyone who tried this rom tell me if there is lag on this? Thanks.

yep it looks like you'd have to install gapps if you need them.
yep there is still a wait to wake up to lockscreen, but smooth other than than, just like the other miui roms.

The file size is smaller maybe because I didn't include the whole gapps package in it. Anything that can be downloaded from Play Store are not included e.g. Gmail, Youtube, Google Now, etc.
The 30-step volume control gives more fine grain in adjusting you media/music volume. Originally there are 15 steps between mute and max volume, this mod increases the steps to 30.
I don't know how to fix the default lockscreen lag ATM. A workaround is to use the "Simple" lockscreen or any other ones from Themes app.
Ok thank you mate. The volume feature sounds very good because idont like the maximum sound in other miui ports. Its very low. So with this feature sound is ok in your rom i think? Also last question before i flash. Will you add weekly builds in fridays?

+1 And if possible DPI options.
Sounds promising. I needed so much "volume rocker wake", I will give it a shot.
I hope you add more missing features from previous MIUI and some cool ones from other ROMs. Keep it going.
I installed this ROM. Now the screen display has become little blueish.. Even the white background looks dull and blueish. How to solve this?
Thanks
EDIT : The color issue solved after installing the latest Franco kernel.
Nice dude remember you back in the nexus s forums. Got a question, is volume wake included in the stock MIUI?

[Mod][KK][LP] True Stereo Mod for LG G2 [All Variants]

This mod is brought to you by @langeveld024, vPro97 and roboMr.Burns! If you like it, make sure you thank one of their posts as well
Surround Sound/True Stereo MOD for the LG G2
TO INSTALL THIS MOD ON LOLLIPOP: USE THE MANUAL INSTALLATION METHOD! THE APP IS ONLY FOR KITKAT.
This MOD requires ROOT
What is this?
This is an app that allows the phone to use the earpiece in combination with the loudspeaker to play sounds and music, thus resulting in a true stereo-like effect. The app has a set of modified mixer-paths.xml files which are used to enable the true stereo mod and gives you he option to choose between clockwise (cw) rotation and counter-clockwise (ccw) rotation of the device, depending on how you normally rotate your device.
Is it safe?
Yes, but make a backup before starting. I've been thoroughly testing it on my LG G2 running OptimusG3 1.4.1 and CloudyG3 2.1, Pardus HD Sensation Black and Stock. I tuned the sound to what I think the earpiece can handle without getting damaged. The earpiece is very clear and produces wonderful sound, but it's not that loud at all.
Other members of this fantastic community have tested the MOD on LiquidSmooth 4.0 (Lollipop) and on Stock LG firmware and reported that it works flawlessly! So yes, at this stage, it is safe to say that is
Installation instructions
1. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP - or make sure you know how to get your device back to a working state in case it gets stuck in a boot loop!
2. Install the Mixer App and grant it root permissions.
3. You will be greeted by the following interface:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Choose whether you want CW or CCW rotation. If you normally rotate your device to the left (so that the earpiece is on your left side), choose CCW. NOTE: For CloudyG3 Users you choose the opposite of this.
If you normally rotate your device to the right, so that the earpiece is on your right, choose CW. (CCW for CloudyG3 users!)
3. Press enable Stereo and reboot your device.
General piece of recommendation - Use this mod in conjunction with dorimanx kernel, as dorimanx kernel allows you to tune the loudspeaker volume easily using STweaks. You may need to turn down the volume quite a bit (-11 in STweaks makes the sound very balanced) to avoid the loudspeaker overruling the earpiece. But then you'll really notice power of this mod, cf. this picture:
Test the mod
To test if this works see: Left/Right Stereo Audio/Visual Test.: http://youtu.be/dvqbq_0jZ_U
I don't like this, what do I do?
Open the Mixer App again and tap the "Disable" Button. Reboot and you're good to go!

Alternative installation method
1. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP - PLEASE! Please make a nandroid so you can restore your phone in case it goes sour! I may be able to provide a flashable zip in the future, but till then, make a nandroid!
2. Copy your current mixer_paths.xml from /system/etc to somewhere safe then download mixer_paths.xml.
3. Move it to /system/etc and give it 644 permissions. 644 permissions looks like this:
xxo

If you use dorimanx kernel and tweak the loudspeaker volume to - 10, you will get an idea of how loud it gets =)
It can't get as loud as the loudspeaker but it's definitely loud enough for every day usage.
Currently on CM12 with Render Kernel and using Mixer14.apk, and it is not working. Both CW and CCW is not producing sound in the earpiece and the loudspeaker is as normal.
Before there was the mixer app, there was the mixer-paths.XML which we used to replace the one in /system/etc/ . During that time, media playing works perfectly with stereo, but during phone calls, the earpiece is set on a permanent high volume and cannot be set down, so it was impossible to put the phone to the ear.
