Hi XDA,
i made this little app i would like to share with you.
It allows you to test if you have successfully rooted your device and it can turn anoying sounds off.
It has 5 sounds to turn off at the moment, these were the ones i found most anoying on my sgs .
If there are others to turn off or they are named different on your device please tell me.
This is build on the Samsung Galaxy S so it might not work on other devices, but maybe we can get it to work!
This app needs root, to mount /system as read+write and then rename the sound files.
It is pretty safe, everything is reversable and not much can go wrong.
Still, if something explodes, burns or starts radiating, i won't take any responsibility .
Currently supported are:
Battery Full (/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Battery_caution.ogg)
Charger/Usb plugged in (/system/media/audio/ui/Charger_Connection.ogg)
Phone powering off (/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg)
Battery Low (/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Low_Battery.ogg)
Dialer Button(/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Waterdrop.ogg)

Will be very helpful if full battery notification is removed, right now I´m on 30 percent, so I can´t give any feedback until tomorrow. Usb sound is not too annoying, but I´d remove it as well. About shutdown sound, I have removed it already with SGS Tools. Thanks!!!
Is shutdown.ogg also used for startup? 'Cause it's about as annoying.
(I usually just turn the phone to Silent before turning it off, it silences shutdown and bootup)
I think the startup sound is part of the bootanimation.
But i will take a look at it.

Do you have a file explorer and could tell me the contents of your
/system/media/audio/ui directory ?
edit: i think i found it, for the mesmerize the shutdown file seems to be "/system/media/audio/ui/0405_PowerOff.mp3"
I will work something out for the next version .
Edit2: I have uploaded a new version, if you could click the new debugInfo button and tell me what it says i can adapt the files paths for the mesmerize .

Thanks, great app!
I believe that the built-in dialer's button sound is there too (TW_Waterdrop.ogg). Could that be turned off too? It's damn annoying, I wonder what drugs the designer did when he/she included it.
Thanks in advance!

It's working, thanks!
Works great !I have waited to someone do an app like this.
I'm sorry, but...
...FOR ME, I repeat, for me its a pointless app, because why bother with the file renaming, if I can simply erase the whole /system/media folder with root access, and then I still can use my own ringtones, without all these annoying default "noises", oh pardon, lets call them sounds.
So now you made an app for something wich can be simply deleted, and then it wont take any memory at all, instead of leaving behind renamed junks.
Btw, I lol'ed about the shutdown.ogg problem; the boot sound is not part of the bootanimation LOL, that comment was just dumb. (no offense, but you can take it if you like, still, I dont mean it that way)

Update. This has been tested and found to work by people with the phone to test with...
So , as many of you found out, when you get a Galaxy S phone, you get this...

Alas, I have something to test. I'm not about much today, and I don't have a GS II, so it comes untested, and unwarranted. If this causes a large explosion near you, not my problem. Likewise (and somewhat more likely), if this causes it to wake you up constantly, or to not boot, then just push the old file back via ADB, or re-ODIN back to stock.
This should remove the annoying "OMFG OMFG guess what?", that your phone presents to you at approximately 3am each morning. It should then remain quiet, merely content that it is fully charged, without having to alert the universe to that fact.
So, if you wanna try it, fire away. Rename /system/app/SystemUI.apk and /system/app/SystemUI.odex to have the ".old" extension added on the end, and then copy in this new APK to that same folder. Then reboot your phone, and cross your fingers for good luck And if it all boots up OK, then you can try popping it back on the charger and see if the neighbourhood gets woken up now...
If it works, please post. If it doesn't, please post that too I don't usually release things without testing on my own phone first, but o2 seem to want to infuriate you guys with this noise while my order sits around somewhere in a pile.
Tl;dr?
Pop this into /system/app, rename the old ones, so you have backup. Reboot, see what happens and if the alert disappears. If not, use ADB shell to remove the new file and rename the old ones. I would suggest using adb to push the apk like so...
<remount filesystem etc>
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv SystemUI.apk SystemUI.apk.old
mv SystemUI.odex SystemUI.odex.old
exit
<back to the windows prompt now>
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk
<remount it read only, and reboot with fingers crossed>
Reverse the rename, and delete this NEW apk to undo.
The file is at this page so that if it causes trouble, someone else can pull the download while I'm not around
as soon as I renamed systemui.apk to the .old extension I started getting crazy FC popups, had to play with it a while just to rename it back to systemui.apk.. so I wasn't able to get far enough to install the modded version
note this was with root explorer, don't have access to a comp atm

Yeah, you will need to use ADB to push the file in I'm afraid. Forgot to mention that. SystemUI.apk is constantly called.
haha just wanted to post appreciation for the awesome comic strip you put up there LOL
Although to be honest - it doesnt bother me at all both the vibration and the light, so meh.
But I can see how it would get annoying to some and I definitely appreciate the comic, because when it lights up during the day I always think i'm getting a phone call.

Yes it's a lovely comic strip, whoever made it, but given o2's fail quotient right now is in triple figures, I'm stuck relying on people testing these tweaks. I'm aiming to fix one of the failings of stock software each day though... But pretty hard without a phone to test on

Going back to previous UI modified version of SystemUI.apk when I get home, but haven't had any problems with this one.

I was about to say I didn't feel like much more just now due to O2 UK, but I've changed my mind. As of tomorrow evening, I aim to start the "one fix per day" to fix something Samsung broke, regardless of their FAIL quotient...
But there is only one rule... And that's that nobody in this thread mentions O2
I'm going to just forget about the idiots until the phone appears, and focus on fixing the niggles that Samsung did...
Also, to whoever PMd me for the details of this fix - I've not forgotten you, but I don't have the stuff handy for a day or so Sorry. I'll try and get the details to you at some point.

Thank you kind sir, last night was the 1st time it woke me up
Hello
Description
Since some time Samsung made it possible to see videos in portrait. That's a nice feature, but the only problem is that, if you don't have auto-rotate on, the player will be stuck on portrait and you'll have to return, then activate auto-rotate, and re-open the video. It's quite annoying(for me) so I decided to edit VideoPlayer.apk to disable auto-rotation, but maintaining the feature to rotate the screen. Since I personally don't use SRS effects I decided to replace that with a button that would rotate the screen. So if you click on that button and you're on portrait, you get to landscape and the opposite.
It has another advantage over Auto-rotate: if you want to look at a landscape video but you're in a position between the two, with auto rotate it'll sometimes go to portrait, with this it won't.
So, what does it look like?

I would appreciate if some designer could make an icon for it or even give me a good one! Dimensions of the image are 110x76 for Landscape and 90x74 for portrait(thanks in advance!).
If you need:
If you need SRS effects, leave a message and I will see what I can do. I removed it because I personally don't use it but I don't know if many people need it.
If you need other rotations(landscape-reversed, portrait-reversed), also leave a message. I can easily include them, I just need to know if some people need those.
Compatibility
It should work on every Samsung ROM(maybe not future upgrades), I'm personally using Batista 2.3 and used the VideoPlayer.apk from it as a source. Leave feedback if it's working/crashing or not please .
Developers/Themers
If you want to include this in your ROM or theme/edit this, no problem. Just leave a little credit .
Installation
I am not responsable from anything that could happen.
Two methods :
1. Replace manually the APK downloaded from below and paste it in /system/app and confirm the replacement of VideoPlayer.apk with a explorer that has Root functionality, like Root Explorer or the new FileSlick.
2. Install the CWM-VideoPlayer Via CWM/Recovery(Thanks Rawat for CWM-script!).
.
Awesome. I have the same trouble all the time. Great fix...

I don't really know, they don't define "development"! Reenginering is development for me(SMALI). If it's only for ROMs then yes I guess it should be moved.
" [READ] Only actual DEV, GUIDE, HOWTO, HACK, MOD, APP & FIX topics allowed in DEV area" <- This seems to fit !

Here's a basic update.zip which overwrites it with your modded app.

For some reason this did not work for me.
Could you simply change the name of the Activity so that this is considered another application. Then we can choose witch app to use for videos (the original, or yours), and put the tick for using it every time if we like it.
Thank you in advance!

It still has SRS effects, but has nothing to do with main post as it's only in landscape and won't rotate at all(landscape only). But it seems to fit with your needs. So here it is(not tested though, but should work):

Hi, can I ask which XML file you modified and which particular line you changed? Just so I can do it myself on the KK5 rom?
Thanks
Hi guys. Some of you may not have known this but there are a TON of configurable options on our GS3s without even touching or modifying any system files. You've gotta hand it to Samsung for making things so easy to customize with their /system/csc/feature.xml file.
Join More than 5 contacts:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Contacts -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>_INSERT_NUMBER_</CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>
You can put whatever number you want there. I chose 15 because it seems like a good number haha.
Save & close.
Enable camera while in call:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Camera -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>true</CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>
Save & close.
Shutter sound (currently doesn't work on some ROMs but the option appears):
Code:
<!-- Camera -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Simply changing this line to TRUE will get you a shutter sound option in your camera options. This file contains a ton of different configurable options for your phone, but beware, changing something in here could have a very negative impact on your phone without you even knowing it and may leave you scratching your head in the future if you completely forgot you've changed something here.
Is this file executed/parsed on every boot? Yes and no. I know it is on first boot of a factory reset device. It is also set to run on boot, but I haven't changed anything in here since my first boot to test it out.
If you do try this on an already setup system, please report back with results. Thank you and enjoy!

Also you can remove unremoveable bookmarks in the browser by editing /system/csc/customer.xml and changing the editable "no" to a yes. Keep in mind you will need to close and wipe the browser data from the application menu.

Manage your LED notification light fast and easily. No more trying to guess which app or which person demands your attention with random colors.
Features:
Select color by app or by text. Your favorite contacts can have their own color no matter which app they use to contact you.
Handle missed called.
Fine tune blinking speed for each notification.
Lightweight, almost no memory and battery footprint.
This app makes use of Android's 4.3 Notification Listener and thus it must be enabled under Device Settings > Security > Notification Access. It cannot access the internet so your personal data is absolutely safe.
Thanks for giving it a look!

Someone else reported this too, I think I know what's causing it. I will release an update tomorrow to fix it.
Works on my Nexus 4
It's possible to make an function to switch between differents colors for the same notification?

That is kinda tricky. I am working on some bugs right now, after that I will see if I can implement it.
Okay, good luck

It requires Android 4.3! It should be compatible after samsung releases an update or you install something yourself.

On another note, the app is still unreliable on stock ROMs, I made some progress towards fixing this but I have some exams at the moment and I don't have much time to work on this. I hope it works fine for the rest of you in the meanwhile.
Doesn't work on 4.3 - all stock, without root etc.
I can set it up, but when notification appears nothing happens

Wait update of application
It's a very good application ! I prefer this app to LightFlow (much complicated)
im a heavy user of lightflow... but it uses toomuch battery and ram in my opinion.
im gonna give a shot to ur app. thanks for making it free
EDIT:
the only notification i get working is missed call... messaging for example = no led on at all all and yes i turned on notification access
Running stock unrooted.
I will wait for future update.
Hope everything goes well with ur exams
Test working on 4.3 Stock, rooted, Franco Kernel 184.
BUT, notifications are not working as should - I get original notification for all events.

Yeah I'm having the same issues. Test function works and shows the notification light working but when I get a notification, nothing appears.
Running Cataclysm 4.3 ROM with Franco.Kernel R184
Other than that, app looks gorgeous. Good work.

Hi,
this is the first app I've ever developed for a mobile platform.
Name: ClearFocus
Description: ClearFocus is app which helps boosting your productivity by following principles from The Pomodoro Technique©
It aims at being extremely simple to use, just tap to start, and feel integrated in the system by following Holo guidelines.
I'm planning to add other features, such as a small to-do manager and white-noise generator to isolate yourself in noisy environments, and other options, such as automatic airplane mode when timer's running.

Great! No ads you said? I think I've screwed up something about ads in the first apk, are you using the first or the second link?
Anyway, thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help
Trying the second apk i only used it for a very short amount of time so maybe thats why. Will let you know tom when i used it fully! And you're welcome!

As soon as I opened the app the circle was larger than the screen, like the screenshot below.
I don't know if it's a problem related to my 'custom' DPI, but all my others applications looks fine.
Device used: Galaxy S Advance (GT-I9070).

Uhm... that's weird. I've updated the .apk, which is now in the original post, can you please try it and see if it works okay? If it doesn't, could you report you screen size and density?
P.s: since this updated, I've changed the package name, so it'll shows up twice. Remove the older one

That's great!!
I've uploaded the final version, the one I'm going to publish to Google Play, if no more bug pop-ups. Can you please test it once again? I'd be incredibly grateful
If there were anyone with a 7" tablet, I'd be really great to find out if it displays correctly and view rotates
Testing on a Samsung Galaxy Ace II X(GT-S7560M). Works great.
Actually been using it for something a bit differently then intended.
I'll explain.
I have a habit of getting into something. For example reading forums, games, reading information on how to develope Apps\Websites and I end up chain smoking without thinking about it. But with your app every time I go outside for a smoke I start the timer which I set for 5 minutes.
So like I said not the intended purpose I know. But is working great for me.

That's actually interesting, I thought I had managed to fix them, I must look into it more carefully. Thanks a lot for the report
Added a new .apk. It adds Russian translations and should have fixed the bug reported by @MufcTK (can you please test it again and report whether it's still present? )
