I'm running stock unrooted. Before the update I was able to select which frequency I wanted to scan for under the Wifi Advanced menu...either 2.4 or 5.0 ghz. My Netgear router is dual band and I had selected 5.0 so I could connect to the N signal instead of the G signal, which is on 2.4 ghz.
Well, after the update today, I checked the Wifi Advanced menu and I can't select frequencies anymore. Furthermore, I'm stuck on 5.0 ghz and can't connect to my G signal either, only the N.
Does anyone else on LG8 stock have this issue? I searched the other settings to see if they moved it somewhere else but it's nowhere to be found.

I notice the same thing. I'm not rooted but if you are I think that some of the developers (freeza) I just don't know if it's just going to be in zip form to flash it or if we have to flash the whole Rom again. What I did is flash back to stock and change this settings to Auto and then flash back LG8 manually. Here is the directions that I follow:

I hope this help
it is gone and was by design, no worries, it is automatic and behind the scenes and isn't really a battery drainer by any means.

It is not by design. It has to be a mistake. I am stuck in 5.0 ghz and cannot connect to any WiFi broadcasting at 2.4 ghz. McDonalds and Starbucks are not available to me because. This menu is on page 54 of the manual. It doesn't make sense to take this option away, especially if I want to connect to the N instead of G.
I just got off the phone with Tech Support and they hadn't heard of this before. They said to take it into a Sprint store to be looked at. I'll give an update later.

Yes, I too notice that if you flash while in 5Ghz Mode from whatever to LG8, your stuck on 5GHz mode. So you will have to find an LG8 rom like freegs3 and flash the mod for the wifi frequency selection, or go back to lg2 or lf9 and do the same and then upgrade.
So i went into the repair center and they only said it's a known issue. Their only fix was to do a master reset, which I had no interest in doing. I guess I'm going to have to root and flash a Rom.
Does anyone have a fix that doesn't involve rooting?

You're most likely not doing anything wrong. I assume you're using an AOSP rom. Aosp roms show your true signal, if you're on 3g or 1x. Sense roms show 3g all the time, even if you're on 1x. Sense lies to you. Aosp shows the truth. Although there is now a mod that allows you to see true signal on Sense as well now.

A PRL is a "preferred roaming list" and has nothing to do with data speeds unless you're talking about data speeds when you're roaming. Do you mean that you are getting no 3G coverage at all?

Are you sure you are getting 3g at all? Sense doesnt tell you when you are on 1x unless you grab an app for that. Are the 1x culprits all aosp and you are just under the impression you are getting 3g on sense when in all reality you are not? Run a few speedtest.net tests and let us know what your speeds are on both on both. I doubt your speed changed.
hmmm...interesting....well im running MIUI...but its weird...because i used to get good signal...i wonder if maybe this is tying in too all the problems it seems a lot of people are having...im gonna run the speed test right now and see
signal and speed arent necessary related, though i believe aosp does calculate that into theirs. On sense it is (almost?) always separate. Anyhow I have only seen a few phones get "stuck" internally at 1x, no worries that would also be fixable.
You may just be having tower issues, thank sprint for that. Another good question is do you get 3g on a diff tower? drive out of the range of your current tower and see what ya get.
yea im gettin a steady 1x from home all the way to work which is about 15 miles away...
my first test:
Ping: 558ms Dl:125 Ul:148
second test:
ping: 807ms Dl: 126 Ul: 140
3rd:
ping: 786ms dl: 126 ul: 143
im not too knowledgable about this stuff....but i feel like the numbers are good right?
No, those are def 1x speeds. Sprint average is 540k. Being that you have used multiple towers i would assume its the phone. Grab easy settings from triforce, luke and see what the settings are. If you cant get back to 3g you may want to grab the 2g/3g toggle from triforce, luke for a buck and set it to hybrid or evdo only and see if that works. Its the only thing that helped me once.
I tried profile restores, other prls, everything. Have you tried any other prls? I wouldnt suggest a profile restore because you dont have 3g and it needs that to provision.
Have you gone into ##3282# (sense rom), and cleared your profile data (top item, then menu IIRC). This will cause the phone to reboot, and do an OTA activation on the subsequent boot.
Have you messed with your 3g settings - meaning, is the device being forced into cdma mode only??
Which rom did you specifically flash?
And I guess most importantly, before you did anything, did you ensure 3g/4g work with the phone in its stock state?

I had this same issues awhile back and the quoted text is what worked for me.
you can try a profile restore but it may not activate well without 3g. Sprint told me that themselves, so have others...though it did activate for me, i have seen people get stuck though for a bit...
well...from what i understand i guess i have no idea if 3g was working before...i know 4g did work fine...and it still works weather im using the wimax setting on a sense rom or even before i rooted it....so somebody give me a run down of what to try...i read a lot of those suggestions...and to be totally honest...i have no idea what too do...like i said im kinda new to this whole thing

Here's the story I live in the States and came back home, Bulgaria for a couple months and last night when I tried to connect to my friends wifi it didn't even show it in the list. There are a few other networks in range as well that I can see from the laptop but not the phone. I tried to search but didn't really find anything. I'm wondering if it's because of the Radio Image. Below is my setup. Any idea ?
P.S. It was working fine in the states right before I left.
Model: HTC Vision (G2)
Android Version: 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.32.28-cyanogenmod
Mod: CyanogenMod-7.0.2-vision
Recovery: CLockworkMod v3.0.2.4
Vision PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.76.2000
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
Check the channel number on the router, channel 12 and 13 aren't licensed in the US so are probably unavailable on the G2. You will have to change the channel on the router if this is the case.
Craig
I tried that and right now it's set on Channel 11 and some extension channel set to 7. The thing is I don't see any Wifi networks even though there are a lot in the area.. Any other suggestions ? I have another phone with me which was bought again from the US through TMob but i can see all the networks from there.
Thanks,
Nick
Hmmm, is it set to 54mbps or 802.11n as 2 channels suggest its 802.11n. If so, try force to 802.11g and see whats happens.
Re the other G2, are the the same software / radio?
Craig
The other phone is not G2 it is some kind of Motorola but it has stock firmware and everything. I tried forcing it to g since it was set to b/g/n but no luck again it doesn't show the network. Under network mode it doesn't read 802.11b/g/n but rather just 11 b/g/n which i'm not sure if it implies the same thing or not...

Try installing and running WifiFoFum from the Market. Its a Wifi scanner. See if it appears in there.

Guys, my wifi is acting really really weird lately.
I flashed aokp m4 with franco r98, and it works perfectly with my home wifi. But at school, it would not connect even though in wifi settings the phone can see the wifi and its full bars. I stood next to a friend with a gnex unrooted and stock Rogers rom, and he has full bars. While on my phone, it just says that the network is saved. I have been able to access the wifi before back when I had stock. So I decided to try my cwm backup of my stock rooted and still no use. wont connect.
Last try i made was to reflash google 4.0.2 stock image and lock bootloader, and try it with the factory rom. NOPE, no help at all..
Right now, Im back home on my wifi, full bars, and no problems watsoever running m2 with r98 again. but still...why???!!!
Is it hardware issue? How can I test and check!!! i really need this solved...as wifi is like a necessity in life these days LOL
Also, I tried foxhound before i went to stock, and still wont connect to school wifi.
One more thing, there is like one spot to two in school that i would get 1 tiny dot of wifi, whereas every other phone around me including the ipods have full bars...SOooo, any fixes?
anyone help ?

Before you flashed your custom rom did it work at school?
If it works at home, then it probably isn't a hardware issue... maybe check your wifi settings and try putting the frequency at 2.5 Ghz instead of auto? Or try to put it at 5.0 Ghz?
Maybe there are some Wi-Fi apps you can try searching for in the market that gives you more information?
You sure you're typing the correct password?

I'd say just download some random one's for now. See if the signal that it's reporting is different. Maybe long press the network name and select "forget", then try again?
Are you not getting enough bars? Or can you just can't connect to the AP?
Hey There,
I've just installed this fine ROM today, and it seems great,
but for some reason, the wifi reception is BAD now.
It works fine if I seat near my router, but if I move 3 meters away
it looses the connection ... and says the reception is POOR.
Any1 else has this problem?
Which version of CM10 did you flash, if it's anything older than beta 1 try flashing Beta 1 ? if you still have problems after Beta1
Try flashing a different kernel and see if that resolves your problem. (if i can spare you some time, try faux123's kernel)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647993
And then if you still have problems.
Try running the Viper ROM 2.6.0 with the Butter hacks runs very smooth.

Thanks for the quick replay
I flashed the "[08-09] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed" rom.
I don't think this is the same cm10 everyone's using.
and I don't really understand, doesn't the Kernal comes with the rom?
Can I change it without changing a rom ?

But on the stock rom WIFI was ok.
Update: Ok I did the "Squeeze" test. Wifi is great whn I squeeze
So it is a hardware problem?? How it only started after I put CM10?
Have you reinstalled the stock rom since you have the problem?
I don't know if CM10 is the cause, or it's a coincidence..
there's an UNOFFICIAL release at the moment which may fix some issues, though I've not noticed anything and I've had every release since A10 installed, so it could be a hardware issue.
I'm on the newest build of cm10 and my WiFi network is fine. I can from leedroid and so far just the same. I do have a tiny bit of earphone cable between my back and hard case which gives me my full bar due to the hardware fault.
Couldnt be bothered sending it back. So this works. Bit did recorded it with HTC so they know I have the fault.

But if you use Cm10 without that little earphone cable, the wifi won't work good?
BTW, what does htc support ask to fix the problem? Do they care you rooted and unlocked the device?
The cable is about 3mm in lengh and as i have a hard case, its enough to compress the connection inside the phone where the fault is.
Htc would of course fix it, but whats the point if the phone is working and its not noticeable.
I would have had to relock bootloader and go back on stock rom.

Did you not do a backup before installing custom rom. Im positive that even if you relock the bootloader they can see that if they went in to recovery. But unlikely. So if you flash stock rom and re lock bootloader, remove root you should be fine

Hi, try using tbaldens CM10. It can be found under HTC ONE X ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT. I found this to be the best CM10
I have been chasing this problem ever since installing CM10 on my Evo 4g LTE. I was getting 4 times the wifi distance on the stock rom. I go about 30 ft. outside the office and wifi drops. Also, what is the most annoying... I stream over our LAN, and when the screen is off, it turns wifi off after a few minutes. (and yes, the check box is checked to keep wifi alive). I've also tried all of the wifi fix apps and none work. If I leave the screen on and stream........ it is good anywhere from 1/2 hour to an hour, then it will just stop. This kills my battery of course. The problem 1st occured when I first bought my OEM 4g lte, but there was an option in the advanced menu "best wifi performance", after checking that, it worked great, then I switched to CM10 and I now have the wifi issue, and there is no option for "best wifi performance". I've tried a couple other jellybean roms and they have the issue as well. This is driving me nuts. I hope someone finds a solution. I don't think the average person would find this as a problem, but when I stream over the net and move all about the shop, it is unacceptable.
I faced the same issue but not on any other ROM. It was specifically with Cyanogenmod 10. I was upset because it gave me the best results but the wifi result was really poor.
However, since I work with wireless networks often, I decided to explore Cyanogenmod's wifi settings. I noticed that if you go in the Advanced Wifi functions (which you can find in the Wifi options menu) you will notice that there is an option called "Wi-Fi Region Code".
Apparently, this option allows you to select the frequency bands your device can operate and is subject to the different world regions. It is quite possible that your Access Point follows the regulatory body of your country and you should know which frequency bands they allow the AP to operate. Due to this it may be just that the Cyanogenmod, by default, put you in a different regulatory domain and limits your frequency band to a subset offered by the AP. Hence, this effectively limits your wifi reach even if you are sitting right next to the AP.
I chose "Japan" since I remembered that their regulatory domain allowed for quite a large subset of frequencies that are allowed on the WIFI spectrum. This immediately increased my received signal strength and I did not have any problem since.
I suggest you play with this, it is likely that your android device will start functioning correctly. However, if you are facing this limited frequency issue on more than one device and that too running different operating systems and different wifi hardware...chances are that your wifi router is malfunctioning. In that case, replacement or repair of the Access point is the best alternative.
Good luck. I hope this solves your problem.

WIFI FREQUENCY BAND (feature) MISSING AFTER UPDATE!! -------->Kernel Version: 3.0.8-985684 - BUILD # IMM76D.I747UCALH9

- Network notification:
- Keep Wi-Fi during sleep
- Auto Connect
- Wi-Fi Frequency Band: Specify Automatic, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz frequency bands <-- THIS OPTION (feature) IS MISSING!!!
- Mac Address
-IP Address
Why did samsung remove this very important feature (Wi-Fi Frequency Band) with this new update?
How am I supposed to chose between Auto, 2.4GH and 5GH connection now?
Will you put it back?
Any OAT to fix the problem?
CAN ANYONE AT SAMSUNG EXPLAIN THIS?
I HAVE CALLED AND CHATED W/ SAMSUNG SUPPORT, BUT NOBODY CAN GIVE ANY INFO.
So are you saying that you can no longer see 5 GHz bands? Or only the option is gone?
And which update did you install? Ics or the leaked jb? If you installed the leak jellybean update don't expect any support from Samsung. it's a leak.... Not final, not supported to be in the public's hands, not even known to customer support.
if the option is gone it should be set to automatic which would be both bands, look in the network list for your 5ghz band.

The option to choose from auto, 2.4GHz or 5G is gone. But why to eliminate it?
I still connect at 5G, but want to have the option to choose from as I had before.
And why nobody at Samsung or AT&T know anything about it?
Just means you can't filter the scan between 2.4 or 5Ghz. You will still be able to connect to either one.
There is an app that will give you much more accurate results while its scanning anyways.

I have unrooted AT&T i747 as well. Since that update, I've lost the option to specify 2.4 or 5.0 GHz bandwidth, plus I no longer see 5.0 or can connect to 5.0 bandwidth. I can only connect at 2.4.
This was noted on this forum when the update came out a month ago.
There was a solution that someone came up with, but it required root access. I had wanted to keep my phone stock until after the official JB release.
Further, it's been reported that on the international SIII, with the official JB update, driving mode is taken away. I don't understand updates that take away options features that work. I'd like to see a solution for the unrooted phone that brings back the ability to specify WiFi bandwidth.

I turned off the 2.4GHz band on my router and left only the 5GHz available. I was able to connect w/ the 5G band and it's a good connection,
no problems that I can notice. I didn't try the 2.4GHz connection.
If you can only connect w/ 2.4GHz you should contact Samsung, something is wrong.
I did contact Samsung, they said that they had nothing to do with update & to contact Google.
Not very helpful. I'm hoping it comes back with JB otherwise I see a custom Rom sometime in the future.
but if u r not able to connect to the 5GHz band, u should contact your provider, they have to do something about it.
i hope u r still under warranty!
It's entirely software related. The update took away the driver / OS API that enabled that option. Why? No idea other than to dumb down the phone.
I can remedy this by rooting and installing the bandwidth selection app that was posted earlier. I saw that individual's thread right after the initial update. This is my first android phone and I would like to keep it stock for as long as possible to see what ICS offers as well as JB. Only after running stock for a bit, will rooting make sense to me as well as flashing a custom rom. I'll be able to appreciate more what the custom rom offers. I'm not a developer, just an end user.
I just noticed my option is gone also. I can't even connect to a 5GHz network now. The Nexus 10 running 4.2 has the option. Is there an issue that caused the 5GHz to stop working?
Are you running an at&t phone? The last ota took the option away. I have no idea why they would take away an option that has been a standard option for all android phones.
I had hoped that JB would bring the option for 2.4/5 bandwidth, but it doesn't. Have you tried a factory reset? I have not. Not sure if a reset will bring the option back.
There is a forum member that wrote a program to bring it back but you need to be rooted. The forum member seemed to indicate that the last ota broke the api for the 5 GHz bandwidth and that he wrote the program to put it back. At least that's what I understand of it. I would like to see a version for an unrooted phone.
Factory Reset Will Not Help
No, factory reseting the phone it will not help.
I did it twice.
Thanks. Saved me the time & effort.
