The first time when I turned on my Gnex, I got the message "Coin Mode, Downloading" instead of the normal start up screen. What exactly is it? I turned off the phone immediately and turned it on again and it came up normally. I forgot to mention that I was trying to start the phone with the volume button. Does it cause any harm to the data?
Guess that's the safe mode

What do these modes do? Will it harm my data? At that time I didn't know which was volume or power button D:
Hahahaha you must be running CM10 JellyBro. That's the boot animation and it does no harm to anything other than your eyes because it is just a boot animation.

How could it be JellyBro if he said it was the first time he had turned on the phone, meaning it was new(to him, at least).

If it is safe mode, you don't need to worry anything you simply just boot into the UI without any third party apps. Simple reboot should boot you into normal mode. Just make sure that your only holding down power button next time when you boot

Does anyone know of an app that can activate and deactivate the screen when it the charger is plugged in. I know the Nexus 7 already wakes when you plug the charger in, but i would like to be able to have the screen turn off when the charger is unplugged. I am mounting the tablet in my vehicle in such a way that the power button is inaccessible and the tablet is going to live in the car. I am hoping this is possible with an app because if it is not, my other course of action is much more complicated. Any help you guys can give would be much appreciated.

I thought I'd share this app with everyone. Did a search, but it doesn't seem to have been posted yet. It's called Screen Adjuster and can be used to remove the yellow tint some people find on their phones. The app does not require root. On mine, bumping the blue to +5 seemed to be enough since it wasn't tinted very badly to begin with.
This is perfect! Jellybean broke screen filter app and I love being able to go below 0% brightness. This app works like a charm.

Not sure how it can do anything real without root access. My guess is it is just sorry of an overlay or something like that.

Is there a way to know the phone's system info (hardware and software) through IMEI?
The reason I ask is that there is no "Settings-About.." on these phone except when it boots it reads "Samsung Galaxy Note II".
Also, the IMEI printed on the back doesn't match when I type the code *#06#. I tried to set to factory default as per the forum (Vol-up + home + power) but didn't work.
If there is any link that will guide me step-by-step to upgrade/re-flash or whatever to restore this phone to a descent one will be highly appreciated.
By the way, it is bought by a friend second-hand. Please Help.
The only things you can acquire from the imei from your side I'd say is the date of manufacture, location, type and model of the phone as far as I know. It seems like the seller either sold you a refurbished unit or changed the housing of the phone. Either way there are threads here where you can change the imei to match the imei on the back of the phone but it does require a good amount of patience.
Although, I would suggest, if it's working then leave it be because losing the imei and then trying to restore it can get tricky.

Thanks for your reply, One more reason why I need those info is to update the device coz some of the features are not there like wi-fi.
I noticed that the features are very limited. At least to put the device into factory status maybe I can start from there. But even that code won't work.
Sounds like you got the fake note 2 china clones.
Check your IMEI here

I doubt may be IMEI is correct but stolen from other device.
If it is genuine then it should show exact device number.
Like when I check my IMEI it clearly says it's samsung note2

Turn off device.
Then hold volume down+ home button+ power button.
Then warning screen will pop up .
Press volume up.
Then it should say downloading....
On top right corner it should say odin mode and product name and some other stuff.
Just tell us what all is written there.

If you have factory reset then it should be recovery mode, not download mode
Again read carefully
Recovery mode - Vol up +home +power
Download mode - Vol down +home +power then Vol up in next (warning) screen

this is the snapshot of the back of phone without battery, it may help in any way.
Hi guys,
I searched the XDA forums but didn't find an answer for this.
When my Note 2 freeze, is there a way to force reboot (restart) my Android device? I have found a lot of answers on hard reset, but nothing about hard reboot. In the iOS world, I can hold down home and power and it would always perform a force restart. From what I have seen, the only way to hard restart my Android is to pull my battery out. Is there a way to perform a hard restart via buttons only (when the device is frozen)?
On a related issue,
Its weird, my "auto rotation" stops working, but repeated restart and complete shutdown and boot up didn't fix this issue until I pull the battery and it works again. I wonder if "shutdown" is really shutdown....
No reboot keys unfortunately. Stupid move on Sammy's part this time around. There is no hybernate on Samsung. Try recalibrating the gyroscope... Either that or a rogue app. Also... Smart rotation is best, imo. It will use the ffc to follow eyes and if it fails... (Low light or whatever reason) It uses the gyro. Good luck

Ios has a key combo to reboot because the battery is sealed in. We can pull the battery quicker than up up down down left right left right.
My son added the I am groot app to his sprint samsung galaxy s3 and now the phone won't do anything! I can't even boot into safe mode. I just want to uninstall this as quickly as possible. HOW??
I assume its the xPosed module that makes all text on your phone some variation of "I am Groot"? If it is, if you go to the app list, there should be an emblem of Groot's head. That's the settings menu for it, then turn it off. I believe there's a slider switch, but otherwise uncheck the boxes and it should work.

Safe mode is regularly booted by holding down the volume down key while booting. It prevents apps from autostarting while booting or just after it finishes booting. Can help with virus removal.
