Go SMS has always been my SMS and MMS app of choice, and it always worked flawlessly for me; that is until I began using Jelly Bean ROMs. For the most part, it still works, but there has been one REALLY annoying issue that I can't seem to figure out. No matter what notification ringtone I set for a particular contact, that's not the one that plays when I do a test notification or when that person texts me. Is this an issue with my settings or with incomplete compatibility with Jelly Bean? I solved the problem by using Handcent, but I'd much rather be using Go SMS! Any help would really be appreciated!

Maybe because it hasn't been updated to be fully compatible with JB?

It works fine for me on jelly bean.
I have a related question. I want to use go SMS but it runs a constant service. Anyone know why? Is it possible to not have it run as a service? Drives me nuts.

I never tried but will let you know.

I think it signs in automatically when you I stall the app. Don't remember, used it long ago, but I did read about it signing in automatically a few days ago somewhere.

Hi,
I am running ICS 4.0.4...using stock messaging or Go SMS.
Is there any way to fix the MMS over WiFi calling issue? It's awful. Even though group SMS works within Go SMS, it fails if I'm on WiFi calling, and my friends hate using GroupMe. Are there any APN settings I can change? a different MMS.apk app I can use?
I am rooted FYI.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig
Try Samsung's fix. Turn Wi-Fi on. Open gmail and send an email to yourself and attach a pic using the acct registered to for your phone. Once you get that, try sending an mms to yourself. You should get it fairly quickly.

Yes it's a permanent fix. 2nd level tech support at tmo told me about this a few months ago and its worked for me and my wife's phone several times when I've flashed a new Rom that mms over Wi-Fi hasn't worked.

Didn't work for me unfortunately..
This doesnt work. Mines just switches to 4g to send it then back to wifi..
Well sorry guys. It's supposed to be the fix from Samsung and its worked for me numerous times.

I believe the issue with GOSMS themselves been testing out MMS over wifi, so far i found it works fine with the stock MMS app and Handcent SMS. Going to try some other apps and see if they work.
Seems i may go back to HandcentSMS until GOSMS fixes it.

Thats because it doesnt work. Thats why these devs made it work with the stock DEODEX version or any other custom roms.. I want to see a video from the person that has "achieve" this. Because all I get is when on WIFI, and I send a MMS, 4G comes on real quick to send it and receive it then it switches off.

Im the one who originally posted the Samsung fix several months ago. I have used it after MMS over wifi not working on several ROMS after initial flash, including my current ROM Beastmade (odexed).
Here is your requested video. I sent an MMS to myself, and you can see 4G never turns on. Only wifi uploads/downloads.
Here you go!
MMS only works over data! If on wifi calling it will switch over to data to send and if data is off it will not send.

That's incorrect! If you watch the video i posted 4g never turns on. Also, i just tried it after turning data off and it went thru. If you'd like a friendly $100 PayPal wager I'd be happy to post a video showing it

I know there was a thread on this before, but for some reason I can't find it. Currently I'm using Frosty JB V1 and I know it's not the rom issue it's a general issue.
When I receive MMS from people it shows the picture like it's a video but it's obviously just a picture. Can someone direct me to the thread that has the resolution for this?
Thanks!

Correct. It's how the stock app works for whatever reason. Go SMS doesn't have that issue.
Is anyone else annoyed that you can't send a contact from the stock SMS app? I love the standard SMS but yet have to have a third party SMS app installed just for this purpose. From the stock SMS you can attach a few things but not a contact. And even from the phone app you can send but through email...not SMS.
Nothing major...just felt like griping about something I guess.
On a side note android keeps getting better and better. I don't see myself even going back to a non nexus phone!

I totally agree it's silly this is not factory android option. I can tell this is a general complaint and you weren't really looking for an app, but check this out:
share contracts via sms

it's not really an "app" it just adds the menu option to share contracts thru messaging app. you still use stock messaging. I have used this since froyo days. it's super lightweight, you'll hardly notice it's even there...

Yup, I've been shocked time and time again that it hasn't already been added since I first started using Android with Froyo.
Which is weird if you've been using dumbphones for the last 15 years I think most of them could do this.

Confirmed on stock official at&t ROM. If a video call is ended before the other person answers phone stops responding and has to be powered down. My Nexus 7 does not appear to have the same issue though so let's hope the update comes soon.

Hangouts has already replaced talk, and I personally think it's loads better, if only more people used it I would definitely consider it a possible whatsapp replacement.
I don't have any issues with the app as some of you have experienced. (xperia s with jb .197)
The real question is, what will happen to g+ messenger? As we now have 2 messaging apps from Google.

It has replaced it, yeah, but you can still use the old Gtalk if you want.
G+ messenger will be gone with the new G+ update.
I used google talk a lot for work, so was kind of worried about this change overall...as i don't use G+ for anything (nor fb for that matter), but also liked how google talk on my phone, and gmail's browser conversation thing sync'd easily...
as far as the android hangouts app, whatever...it works, didn't really care what it looked like...but i will say the chrome extension for hangouts is much better than how gmail integrated. I can now have any number of my work/home machines connected to hangouts without having gmail opened. Not sure if this is how G+ worked before, as I wasn't going to bother using that.
I'm still learning it...but also prefer how hangouts doesn't seem to be archived into gmail automatically...you can set it up to do that, but it doesn't just default to dumping a pointless 3 line conversation into 'all mail'...I know you were able to change all that with google talk, just didn't feel like messing with it.
So whatever in my case...its definitely not worse for me. The bigger problem still is, and always will be, the trends of what people use. I still get numerous fb messages a week despite it being obvious that i'm never on there...then border line threats for ignoring someone haha.
Enjoy people, working perfectly on my Note 3 and my wife's S3

Yeah, unfortunately, I concur. I also was planning for this to be a more unified client than it is. Instead of merging the hangouts and SMS threads it keeps them separate. I was expecting it to be like the iMessage client for iOS: Data message unless the recipient doesn't have the app or you have no data connection, SMS for the rest

Come on folks, obviously the new Google apps are making use of the API's in 4.4 that aren't going to work properly on 4.3. This is the reason even something like Maps has different current versions floating around depending what you're running. There's going to be bugs just side loading this from a system image especially for a new app like hangouts that's now being deeply integrated into the system in 4.4.

I'm sure we're all quite aware of that. Thank you for pointing out blatantly obvious things.
No one here is saying "WTF Google why you no make teh hangoutz werk for mah Note before official release?! "
We're merely conversing, seeing if these problems are shared by all, or just some. So pump the brakes and cool your jets.
The simple fact it works
Flawlessly on my wife's Galaxy S3 and not my Note 3 makes me curious and eager to see if there are tweaks on our end that can nudge the software into a happy place.
That being said, constructive and helpful people who manage to find workarounds or anything helpful to get their MMS working without crashing the app, hop in and share!
