Could anyone explain why I can't change my system folder in root explorer to r/o? System/app or system is stuck on R/W. I'm pretty sure I'm rooted as im running a custom Rom and have titanium bu etc. . What gives? I've never had this problem before.

Make sure your r.e. is in r/w mode.

Have any of you restored from a nandroid? That seems to be causing this issue for some people. The only solution I've seen is to reflash your ROM fresh.

Confirmed: Reflashing the ROM does fix the issue. Not sure why Nandroid restore messes that up. I wonder if its just the App or something embedded in the ROM ?
Pretty much getting the same errors. I've flashed multiple ROMs, thoroughly wiped, fixed permissions, reran/ updated SU and to no avail, root explorer does not have superuser access to certain folders in regards to establishing permissions and sometimes viewing content of a folder. I can install rooted apps and the run rooted apps.
This is an issue I have had. I know that reflashing a rom will fix the issue. but you can also download and use "supersu" instead of superuser. make sure you update your binary. if that does not work, download busybox. this seems to fix the problem for me. make sure you reboot after updating binary.
I was having this issues, I was on CWM 5.2.7, I updated to 6.x.x (touch) restored my backup, and viola! everything is back to normal. I have rebooted multiple times, and still have root!

I started from CWM 5.0.2.6, updated to 5.0.2.7 then went to TWRP 2.2.2. Maybe I lost it in flashing multiple recoveries?

I rooted my brothers phone for him about a year ago and I usually don't have a problem maintaining his "rootness'; except for this time.
He's running MIui and wants to switch to cyanogenmod. When he goes into titanium backup, he's getting a message that says "sorry, I can not acquire root privelages. This application *not* work. Please verify that your rom is rooted and includes busy box and try again".
I went to the superuser app and made sure he had root privelages, which he does, and also downloaded a busybox installler from the market and it is said he already had a busybox installed but i reinstalled it and the application said it has successfully installled. Yet, titanium backup continues to show the same message.
The weird part is, is that titanium backup works without a problem on sense roms.

Try hitting the problems button within TB. It will install a good version of busybox for it. It might help. Idk
Boo
Under preferences, it only offers a superuser update not a busybox
Sent from my Touchpad using xda premium
Try updating the su. Some of the first 3.0.? versions make you lose root. In the new version 3.0.? that problem has been fixed.

You know I just realized I still use a really old version of TB. It's probably diff now. On mine there is a button on the main Page that just says problems? which dl a compatible version of busybox. They must have changed it. Sorry man
Boo
Its updated

Problem solved: I went into titanium backup preferences and hit" force system busybox". I will give thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I knew they wouldn't have ditched that feature. They just changed the name. Glad you figured it out. I'd be lost without TB.

Is this an ICS issue? Tried on the ICS perfection build, and the Easy does it build. I tried fixing permissions, several reflashes and using adb remount, as well as manually mounting the /system folder using the adb shell and I still couldn't write to it. Anybody else have this issue?
Yeah it's been mentioned in the easy does it thread. Not quite sure whether or not there's a fix for it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I asked a couple times in the easy does it thread but no one has replied. I can't figure it out either. Sometimes I get it to r/w but nothing can be deleted.. I can move stuff from the system folder to SD then delete but can not paste anything into the system folder.. the only one it has worked for me in is Racings ICS rom
Yeah, it's bizarre. Well, thanks for your replies.

Had the same issue just go into recovery and keep flashing the super user.zip until it says the installation was successful. Worked for me. Try using the perfection ics rom that's what I use.

I had a similar issue. But when I reflashed and did a super wipe it fixed itself.

same here man, tried with root explorer on a ics megamix rom and cannot change it either
edit. found the issue, it worked for me it might work for you
i noticed that even if you click allow when superuser pop up it actually denies it, i had to go to superuser and have set up to be allow always on any app that requires root,
and that helped me make changes in the system/app
Hello all, I have rooted the phone and installed "no bloat" from the play store. I try to delete all the bloat apps..such as play books, but it fails to delete even after i grant it su acess.
What could be wrong?
I am running stock ics ( i find it better for me than cm9 at the moment)

I suggest trying Titanium Backup and seeing if there is a difference. It has helped me remove any bloat I did not want on my phone on many roms, including stock rooted ICS.

Just tried to delete some apk's, for example I just tried to remove Play Books.
I get and error from TB that it could not be removed.

What's your root app: Super SU or Superuser?
Also how did you root? Flashing the Root.zip file in CWM?

You are getting the super su prompt when launching titanium backup, correct? I've heard some issues with some people not having full root privileges on the stock rom. Try running a darkside cache wipe (in the dev section), reboot phone, and try again.

Please be sure to run the CACHE wipe and not the actual system wipe. Hope this resolves your issue.
download this app called root uninstaller. its so easy and free. i use this app instead because it only does one thing, which is delete any apps on your phone. system apps bloat apps and regular apps. keep it simple.
Could also be su issues. You could try to go in and delete the permissions and try again. Probably an issue with root though. could try a root check, dl updated bb and su, or just start over.
Thanks for the help everyone so far.
I went back to stock gb and rooted. Deleted the bloat
Thanks again!

Whenever I try to restore a nandroid in CWM, it appears to reboot in the middle of the restore without going back to the CWM menus, and then I have to re-setup my ROM as if I just flashed it. Most of my previous apps will be there, but with none of the previous data. And the ones I don't have, I try to re-download them from the playstore but get a "-24" error.
Any ideas?
For reference, it is cwm version 6.0.2.3.
(Pardon the noobage if its either super obvious or if its been posted, as I couldn't find it)

Very first thing I'd do is update your cwm to 6.0.3.1 and try that.

Just tried, didn't work.
I could deal with it if titanium backup was restoring all of my apps, but there are a few that are crossed out, such as swift key. I try to restore it, but it says it can't install the app. I then get the error I mentioned in the op when I try to get it from the play store. A solution to either issue would be fine. Frustrating.

I am looking for an app that will let me pull a system apk from a backup of my system using cwm. I have tried nandroid manager, app extractor, and a couple others that I don't remember the name of and none of them are working for me. Nandroid manager says that it successfully restored the app I wanted, but it didn't really do it. I have also tried titanium back up, and it's not restoring the app either. It's a system app if that makes any difference.

TB might do the trick for you. I just checked, and under the MENU
Then under special backup/restore
I know it works with twrp, Might work with CWM too. Never actually pulled one from there, but there is an option to grab the apk
Good Luck
edit: odd, searched with root explorer and was not able to find the apk i yanked from TB nandroid

I've tried TB, both restoring the app and extracting the app from a backup. Neither worked. TB spent 30 minutes restoring this app before I canceled it.

Ok so flashed back to my stock rooted backup and used the app Appwererabbit and it allowed me to make a copy of the apk that I wanted. The I flashed back to my current rom and tried installing it, but the install failed. I'm guessing because it was a system app. So I placed it in the system app folder and still nothing. Is there a way to install this without using a pc and pushing it with ADB?

Anyway to install a system apk from another rom without using a pc and ADB? I have tried to restore a backup off the app with TB, but that was a no go.

Download root browser, take a backup of the app, open root browser, locate the backup file move that backup file to system/app folder and change it's permissions to rw-r--r--. and then reboot. enjoy

Probably would help to know what app, also is it from the HTC One or another phone ?
And are you currently using a sense rom?
