Guys,
I was wondering whether it´s possible to have a "connection chain" like this to the GNex ???
1.) Connect an OTG cable to the micro USB port of the GNex
2.) Plug a standard self-powered USB hub into the OTG cable
3.) Apply an USB-A to Micro-AB adapter and so connect the Samsung Micro-USB2HDMI adapter to the USB hub
4.) Connect a Logitech game pad
5.) Connect a USB stick, portable drive, ... you name it
What´s the purpose you´re sure about to ask ... Well, launch any emulator on the GNex, bring the video output to my 46 inch plasma and gamble old games with the game pad over the GNex.
Do you think, it´ll work? I don´t wanna spend all the money for all the adapters and stuff ending up in a mess.
Cheers
Christian
Don't think it will work honestly.
I don't think this device supports mhl and otg. Sounds like the galaxy s3 does with a special cable. That cable does not work on our phone.

Thx for the replies. Kinda sad, my idea won't work out.

I 've just tested and can confirm that USB OTG mode is working on this phone. I was able to connect my USB stick to my GN2 and play a movie off it. I wonder if it has enough power to power the portable HDD like WD passport. Will test soon along with USB keyboard and mouse. I've ordered Logitech K700 and will test it once it's delivered.
I tried connecting another phone to it and nothing. Didn't work. What pops up when you connect the usb drive?

Yeah my otg cabe works too

I got a cheap cable off monoprice and it worked on my thumbdrive but not on my WD passport. I have heard some say it does though. My WD is kinda old so maybe it draws more than the newer ones? In any event I really wanted it for the thumb drives only anyways.

Unless the other phone was in USB mass storage mode (which is not supported on most devices after Android 4.x), it won't work. I've successfully mounted my Epic 4G and EVO 3D on my Nexus 7 using a USB OTG cable and putting both phones in USB Mass Storage (UMS) mode. The Note 2, S3, and most other 4.x devices use Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which is not as compatible as UMS is.
I connected my WD 1.5 Terabyte drive to it and it worked perfectly!! (the drive is powered though)
Also worked with keyboard, mouse, and PS3 controller!
So cool.!

I have a WD Passport 500gb and it does not read it. I read somewhere that they had to be formatted in Fat32 and not NTFS to be read by the Note 2. I have not confirmed if it is true or not.

Actually that may be true because mine IS formatted in Fat32 because I use it to play stored Homebrew games on my Nintendo Wii.
Anyone tried hooking it up to a USB hub yet?

Works just fine. Had two USB flash drives, a mouse, and keyboard hooked up and everything worked as it should. Even the media buttons (Play/Pause, volume, etc) on the mouse and keyboard worked.
There is much, much more you can connect to the Note 2. Check out this demo (use the TOC links in the description - the video is very long):

I connected my Nikon D300 and using DSLR controller did multiple bracketing.
I just figured out I can use my usb otg cable to listen to pandora through my ps3 sony headset lol

Anyone tried a pen tablet with pressure sensitivity?

Not sure what you mean, but this phone is pressure sensitive with the S-Pen

I recently bought the multi-media dock, it works fine when plugging it to my smart TV.
Sound output etc works fine via the HDMI slot.
What i can't get to work however are the usb ports. When i plug in a usb stick it won't read it even though i've converted it to Fat32 (same with hdd etc)
Also ive got a wired mouse which i wanted to try on it and it wouldn't work either.
Anybody have any info on what i have to do ?
Thanks in advanced.
Faulty dock? ... tried pen drives? ... not all hdd work. .. you may need external power source for the hard drives. ..try another wired mouse. . Tried wired keyboard?
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
I don't have any keyboards. I don't wanna buy one incase it won't work. .
I'll look around for another mouse though

I have an OTG cable that I have been using for the past few years on my tablet, but it appears it doesn't work with this generation of the Nexus 7.
Using USB device info app, it looks like it is finding my jump drive on the Linux side of things, but Android appears blank, so this isn't a hardware issue with the tablet.
Have you used Nexus Media Importer and have it working? Please post a link to your OTG cable.
I'm using this one on my nexus with no issues whatsoever.

I have this one too and it works on my 2012 Nexus 7. I'll plug it in my new 2013 Nexus 7 get home. I see no reason why it won't work though.
Wow only $1.50 shipped. I'm not even sure I have a need for an OTG cable, but for $1.50 I just ordered one.

Yep, I bought the one in that very link, I took it from my order history. I think I bought three of them, back when I bought my galaxy s3. Works great. I actually like that the micro usb makes a 90º turn, because you can flip the n7 over and have it naturally hang downwards, rather than straight out to the side.
What format thumb drive would it work with? I know NTFS is no good, maybe exfat?

This one works for me: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00932N46S/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Used it to mount 2 NTFS drives (one flash & one external hard drive). Need to use USB OTG Helper to mount NTFS drives.

Hi:
I use the OTG Cable from Amazon, shipping from Hong Kong on my Nexus 7 2012 and 2013--I just can't say Nexus Flo, it makes my teeth hurt. Both my units are stock and I use Nexus Media importer on each unit. I have a 64gb microsd in a microusb adapter formatted with NTFS which I use for streaming and copying files to my tablet on the run. Nexus Media Importer only supports write on Fat32 and I have small 32gb flash drives for that. You don't have to be rooted to use OTG.
As others have pointed out, Nexus Media Importer is working flawlessly on the Nexus 7 2013.

Sorry, what would I need in addition to this cable to use it with the nexus 2013?
Is there any USB OTG cable with charging that works for the Nexus 7? Trying to have the Neuxs 7 set up in my car so it can be charged and access a portable hard drive at the same time.

Not any that I'm aware of that also charge the device. I did skim this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822653 as it looked somewhat promising. I wonder if you could do OTG while wireless charging? That'd be the way to go if so.
As I wrote this post I decided to test it. Using my xbox360 controller, wireless charging stops as soon as I plug in my OTG cable. I repeat, wireless charging does NOT work while you are using an OTG cable. At least, the one I linked early on in the thread.
Kinda sucks, but I'm sure there's a good reason for it.

You will need a program, this is what I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
It will automatically mount and unmount the drive.

Is there an accessory that can charge, connect to an external USB Hard drive, and output to HDMI at the same time?
i posted in other forum to hope for a Dock that:
1. Wireless Charge
2. Expand a TV HDMI out
3. USB port for Hard drive access
I really want the Nexus & FHD to be a Home entertainment player...maybe the dock should include a remote/ Or Kinect like gesture control app built in with the dock
Hope this comes true...it will be the best Combo for a home unit!

If it's anything like the 2012 Nexus, to charge and otg at the same time, all you need is a y cable and a kernel hack
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
If I get a usb Y cable or a powered usb hub, would a bluetooth dongle work? I think i can score a free ipad case with a bluetooth keyboard so i have to see how i can plop the little kindle in, but it would be nice to bring my kindle with me to school to type up research or whatever i need. I know there are threads about it but those date back in 2012 around may or so, so things could have changed
Yes. I was successfully able to get some flash drives to work, you just have to get chainfire's USB otg apps. I would imagine Bluetooth dongles would work as well

Alright thanks! Ill try it out and buy a Bluetooth dongle. I do have a wireless keyboard but it would be weird to lug around a full sized keyboard for a little tab
