Anyone Know How Long Samsung & Dropbox Are Offering The 50GBs of Space? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Is this offer always going to be available for those who buy a non Verizon or ATT Galaxy S3?

2 years, therefore the length of your contact. It's for dropbox, not box

Yeah, I knew the deal lasts for 2 years, but I was wondering when or if they'd stop offering this deal for GS3 buyers. Thanks anyway, man.

anyone know what happens to your memory after 2 years? do your files get deleted? or if you lets say used up all 50 gigs and you free up 2 gigs then they basically take it away and now your down o 48 gigs?

https://www.dropbox.com/help/333/en
If your paid account expires or is downgraded, or the space granted to your account by a promotion expires, all of the files in your Dropbox folder will still be available to you on your computers, phones, and via the Dropbox website. However, Dropbox will only sync the amount of space allotted to your Dropbox account. This means that new files added to your Dropbox will not sync to other computers or be available online until the amount of disk space used in your Dropbox drops below the amount of Dropbox space allotted to your account.
For example, if you have more than 18 GB worth of files in your Dropbox and you downgrade your account to a Dropbox Free (up to 18 GB - 2 GB + 500 MB per referral) account, all files in your Dropbox will remain in your Dropbox folder and you will be able to view and access them online via the Dropbox website. Once you move files from your Dropbox or add new files, they will no longer sync or be available online until the amount of file space used falls below your Dropbox space. This remains true even if you re-add a file that was previously synced.

Box.net giving 50GB of storage to all Android users for next month

For anyone that hasn't been able to get in on the 50GB giveaways from Box.net, they are now offering anyone who downloads their Android app and signs up in the next month 50GBs of cloud storage.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/02/23/box-for-android-receives-update-offers-all-android-users-50gb-of-free-cloud-storage/
The only drawback is that uploads are limited to 100MB.

Thanks Brian, it worked.
Worked for me. Thanks!
Worked for me as well! 50gb lifetime on my account
Good looking out, thanks!
Nice find... thank you!
just got mine too, now what to do with all this space, can i backup my entire phone to it somehow?
Thank you very much for the info, I will take an extra 50 GB any time +1
very nice!!!
Good looking out!
The 100MB file size limit is very disappointing and I hope they change it in the near future. What's stunning is that the earlier version of this promotion, with the HP TouchPad for example, 50GB accounts also came with a 1GB file size limit. I can confirm this because I have since commandeered my friend's account with those limits.
There was also a way to to get 50GB under the LG Android promotion (we just edited build.prop, which is what the box.net app checked), but that too came with the 100MB limit.
It's great to have 50GB lifetime storage for free, but I really wish they upped the limit to >300MB. I find myself using my Dropbox (24GB storage, 300MB limit via mobile, unlimited file size via desktop). Write to BOX and ask for bigger limit, or post in their forums!
Sweet i'll take 50, thank you
Phonearena pointed me in that direction but still got it. Good lookn out

Too bad they want you to pay to use their file sync program. Guess I'll be sticking with dropbox. Thanks for the link though.

Yes, I appreciate 50GB free storage, but without sync it is pretty useless. The point for me of having cloud storage is to backup my computer and have access to all my files in the cloud from my portable devices and to keep the files in sync from all these devices. I certainly don't need 50GB of storage to upload a few files from my phone. So will keep using dropbox, until I can figure away to sync.
Hate to sound ungrateful, it just is not that useful at this point.

Initial reports say dropbox gives hox users 25g free for 2 yrs

I already have a dropbox account
Using...editors edition logged on from my hox and only....says I have 2gb free

I had a problem on mine using existing account. Think it was to do with running custom roms on my Sensation based on One S.
I had to email their support who then told me to go through the list on my account to gain extra space, like install on pc and recommend Drop box to a friend.
It still was not on after this so i emailed again and within the day it was activated.
Have a search, i'm sure you'll find something

yep that done the trick for me aswell, in my haste to get everything up and running i had forgotten that we have complete at least 3 out of 5 'tasks' (or is it 4 out of 6 or something like that) anyway, i had only completed 2 out of 5,
so i 'referred a friend' task (used one of my old yahoo email accounts) and that gave me enough tasks done to get the 25gb storage ...
Same here. Added my existing dropbox account on startup, completed survey on the website. +25GB!

there was a mod going around to give you the 25gb on any android version/handset, if you used this then you will not get the free space
Sean - Dropbox Support, Apr 11 06:00 pm (PDT):
Hi,
You have not received the 23GB Dropbox bonus as you previously installed a modified, unauthorized version of our Android App. This was not part of the official Dropbox 23GB HTC promotion, and the space earned in this fashion space has been removed from your account.
Downloading apps from unknown sources is not a good idea, as they might have been modified to include malicious code. We strongly recommend that you only install the Android Dropbox app via Google Play (formerly known as the the Android Market) or from official download links on www.dropbox.com.
However, if you now have an eligible HTC device you can still earn the extra 23GB of extra Dropbox space, but it will take us some extra time to credit you with this space.
You will also need to take the extra steps of reinstalling the app from from Google Play (formerly known as the the Android Market). When you have done so please reply to this email.
best,
Sean

I nicely informed them that the app came "preinstalled" and was "up to date" after 3 days of no reply i just deleted my account and remade it using the same info as before, that worked a charm lol
Logged on to dropbox on my HOX with my existing dropbox account and boom 25gb.

Idea: How to increase your Skydrive Storage to 14, 32 or 50 gigs

Ok I have a theory. A friend of mine shares some of his files from his Skydrive to mine. When I open my Skydrive app and swipe to Shared page, there are his files. Okay so what does this mean?
Well.. if you create a new account (hotmail/outlook) you can then share all your folders/files with your first email account. All your files from your second account will be available on your Shared page in your Skydrive app of your first account.
Now if you had a hotmail account for a long time, you automatically get 25 gigs of storage. If you happen to have a second older account that means you can share another 25 gigs. Total 50 gigs of storage. If your second account is new, then you can share only 7 gigs. Total of 32 gigs of storage.
If you don't have old accounts then both newer accounts will have 7 gigs. Thus you could have a total of 14 gigs of storage.
Great huh? :good:
Now I haven't tried this out yet but I don't see why this should not work.
Interesting, one should try, and report whether it's actually convenient or not.
About the 25GB for old accounts, I wonder how you get that. My hotmail address was opened more than 10 years ago, but yet I only get 7GB. Is there something required to do in order to get 25G. That alone would already be a great improvement for me. With the unused old account of my wife, that'll make 50GB
Little while a go MS offered a free 7gb->25gb upgrade to users who clicked it in their account. I think its not available anymore.

You had to have used SkyDrive by this year. If you had files on it then your account stayed at 25gb else it got downgraded

Surely we could piggy back email acounts. Open new accounts and share 7 gigs and another 7 gigs and another 7 gigs to your defualt Skydrive account???
Ok finally managed to test this. Works fine as I suspected. Put lots of files in my second hotmail account and shared with my first default hotmail account and naturally the files appear in my shared page of the official Skydrive app. I have a total of 4 hotmail accounts. Two 25 gigs and two 7 gigs so in theory (if I wanted to) I could have access to 64 gigs of files in my Skydrive app. Wahay!!!
What do you do with all these files? Why do you need 64GB on the SkyDrive, especially for WP7? Actually, my DropBox free 19 GB account still filled by 40% only (but I'm developer and share huge ISO's between my PC's)

Thanks for head up. I went dig out another account and it had 25G, so I have two 25G now. still get other accounts but won't bother too much right now. This is a great idea. of course, I'm far from using up my first 25G yet, but also I won't try to upload all my photos taken with my SLR neither.

The purpose of my OP is to inform users that they have the option to have access to increased storage from their default Skydrive account. How one utilises that storage is up to them.
I for one have all my PC documents on a specific category related to my passion (over 11 gigs) which is useful to have access to and numerous other media files.

Dropbox only 2Gb

1) I installed Dropbox and I was expecting 50Gb but only got 2Gb. Is there a way to get the remaining storage?
2) It seems very slow. Is that normal?
3) Can you access it through a rooted file manager like root explorer?
Thanks.

When I did it they had me complete 5 steps of 7 listed in order to get the 50Gbs. Steps included taking a tutorial, referring a friend, etc. Took me about 5 mins to complete.
All I had to do was to log into my dropbox with my new GS3 and I received the bonus space.
Invite more people to increase the space on dropbox.
I had a dropbox account prior to my SGS3 purchase. I've logged into my dropbox account with my S3 but don't see a way to get the free 50gb.
Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks for any help

I did not do anything special. I did not even know about the bonus until it happened. I simply used the dropbox app on my phone to connect to my existing dropbox account. Shortly after that I received an email telling me about the bonus.
Got it to work but later found the e-mail. I had to install dropbox onto a second computer to qualify.
Don't forget folks that the S3 bonus space is only temporary. Just wanted to remind you guys of that. So if you intend to keep dropbox for all your cloud storing needs be aware it is only for about a year or two. After that I believe you would have to become a paying customer or loose the bonus storage. The S3 bonus storage is like forty something gigs from what I can remember. Sorry I don't have the specifics but you can check from your account online and see how much it is and when it expires.
An alternative if you need storage for your pics and vids is photobucket. It automatically uploads pics and vids, dropbox only does pics as of now, and you get unlimited storage with no expiration.
The bonus is for two years. I figure that by then I will either be buying s new phone (and hoping a similar deal is on) our that there are other options.

Gotta figure by that time cloud storage will be dirt cheap

does the sprint version come with free dropbox space?

As the 50 gigs on Dropbox is nice, I use and love Google Drive. Is there a way to set photos to auto sync to Google Drive like you can with DropBox?
What does the two year thing mean? So... if I have a full of pics, in two years I have to start paying for that space? Sounds weird to me
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
it means it reverts back to the 2gb after 2 years. you can get friends to sign up to get more space, and do a couple other things to get more space.
It comes with 48GB of temporary dropbox space, good for 2 years. I had 6GB to start with and am now up to 54GB...
how do i get that space. i have an account and its synced but i see nothing about it
edit: nevermind. i went to dropbox online and hit the "get free space" link and voila it tells me i have 48 more gigs
haha! i have 86gb
So in two years does it auto-delete everything over a certain amount?
No. Your drive is just full and it will refuse to sync or allow additional data to be uploaded or modified. You will also get frequent mail bugging you to pay for the upgrade or remove the storage. I have no idea what happens if you ignore those for a long time though.

no idea with drive, but Google plus does it
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
As was just mentioned Google plus will do that for you. The gplus albums go to picasa though which uses Google drive space if the image exceeds a certain resolution. I haven't seen any way to get the raw image files into the Google drive listing short of manually storing your album sync directories on Google drive using picasa desktop. I'm using that method with certain albums that I frequently share images from (renders and screenshots) via file transfer.
It dawns on.me that you can also circumvent the manual component of the method i suggested by using the dropbox photo sync. Then set up the desktop client and point your dropbox folder to your Google drive. In that way your pictures will sync to dropbox and then right into the Google drive. You can set up the selective sync option to prevent everything but pictures from syncing that way.
