Hi all
I know that maybe this post will be removed, but until there, I'm wondering why are some of us trying to move on to JB when the current attempts to put ICS working on our Desire aren't yet succeded?
Does it worth?
Thanks to all
I strongly agree with. Not to disrespect the developers but going to point b when point a is not working properly is not a smart thing to do.

JB is more like a minor release than ICS. Almost all was fixed in ICS rom but camera and h/w acceleration video decoding. This bugs are not easy to fix, they requires new drivers writen from zero and there is no more a 'camera' developer on that. In fact JB for now has the same problems (and few others) but for a month of development is promising better than ICS. We all hope someone will obtain a full working camera/video, but until now this problem remains in both 4.* branch

Strongly disagree with you or at least with the choice of words. I've been using ICS on my desire since March and don't even look at sense or GB for me everything always worked perfectly so how can you say that it's not working camera, video and everything else is working for me, so have you even tried any ICS rom lately?
And yep JB is minor update but I've put JB on my bros desire and its working almost better than ICS at least the speed of opening apps, do I think developers see more potential working on JB

On ICS, beside the force-close errors, the GPS not working, issues with Wi-fi/3G and some other minor issues that does not works on this ICS, and works perfectly on CM7.1...
About the choice of words... I'm not english, sorry for that
JB
What do you mean???
If you like to be on the bleeding edge then be here on the xda forums
as JB is the latest bleeding edge thats why Im on pre-Alpha JB and it works grate
No vidoe and no camera, but how uses that anyway :cyclops:
I have to say that i kinda really dont like ICS. But DK, Sandvold and Nikez all have it pretty much as good as its gona get and all can be used as a everyday rom so fair play to them. About JB.. well that is definitly coming on fast, just look at Nikez's work. So my point is why complain? If it was'nt for devs trying to port things to the desire we would all be stuck on a bog standard Desire or all probably baught a new phone by now. Be greatfull for their work and efforts.

Have to disagree with you on this one. JB is a Major update. Hence the Project Butter, I believe this is the only thing iOS got better than Android. so if this will works then we will finally put that bad apple to the ground
I'm not complaining about this amazing work of all devs here! I'm very thankful to all them. I just let my opinion about, in my opinion, good work to do.
Being or not being on the bleeding edge it's not a priority for me. I use technology to help me on my daily work and not just to say that I've this or that gadget. I prefer and in fact I need a fully working device with a older version rather than the latest no working...
About the camera and video, I agree at all... I can't say the same about the GPS and wi-fi/3G swapping/issues... For now I'll be running the best ever made ROM for Desire: CM7.1

Well if JB was major update it would not then be 4.1 and would be 5.0 from development point of view and if it was major update Nikez and other devs wouldn't be progressing as fast as they are now.
But if you take project butter then yep it is pretty major change between having laggy UI and smooth UI as they finally figured out how this can be achieved

Im just surprised apple did not patent "Smooth UI" or did they maybe
Since they did this cracy patent for internet search result thus making Google Now need to be "not as smart as it could be"...

Devs being devs will try and push the boundaries. That's what they do. You can't stop them for doing what they do no matter how pointless it is for you. They are in it for their enjoyment and noobs and instability freaks are just here for the ride.
My Desire is still on Gingerbread and I would probably not try ICS or JB roms on it until it has "Stable" labeled on it at least. (Which probably not gonna happen tbh)
Near stable, pretty stable, almost stable, kinda stable, 90% stable does not equal to "stable"(no matter how many recommendations people here say about a certain rom). That's not going to cut it for me. I don't wanna be in a situation where I suddenly have a bsod, a reboot, signal loss, or system freeze during an emergency situation because I want the bleeding edge in technology installed on my phone.

Thanks for the remark
Pretty sure the .1 release JB has over ICS is worth it for the (when working) project butter - ie smoothness from gpu/hwa not just the cpu.

You also have to accept the fact that when you loose the official support you loose the most of the thing. I don't wanna say that our developers ain't great, they are, but for most of them it's just something to do in their spare time and they (probably ) have their own private life, they don't live on XDA...

I've been noticing a lot of ROM's not updating. And recently the ICS port from the RCMix Sensation has been stopped and closed. Is their still hope, or is it time to upgrade to a newer phone.
Not sure what you consider alot, but I.just glanced in the Dev section and quite a few have had updates of within the past two weeks(I counted 10 +). That seems pretty active to me
Plus just because a rom hasn't been updated recently doesn't mean its not being worked on

Not updating doesnt mean that they (devs) are not working anymore, It means that their ROM doesnt have any bugs or problems and is stable and doesnt require any changes.
Thats what most of the ROM devs will say.
Hmmm a question thread that was not posted in the Q&A forum?
Ill move it this time
You'd consider buying a new phone just because (some) threads on a forum aren't experiencing a massive amount of traffic in a holiday period?

It only dies if people allow it. It has become far to common that people wait for others do it instead of learning to do it themselfs. If you want something cool and new dig in and make something new. That is the point of a development forum to help others learn and share tips. Developers are not special. They just have the drive to make their device theirs.
I had another read of the op, like the ics sense is coming back, I've been working on it and other things, in a way dhd is dying and in a way it isnt if that makes sense, alot of new devices gets released n when that happens everyone usually wants something new and cool, devs want to develop on a newer phone see what it can handle performance wise etc
If I'm still here when sense 4.0 drops then yeah I'll most likely be bringing it to DHD first (as thats the phone I have)
Yea i totally agree with what you are saying zelendel

Why would you say that? I'm sure the devs that put a ton of time and effort into cooking and posting the ROMs would love to hear that they "aren't worth downloading".
People have different needs and preferences, that's really the main difference. I've tried many different ROMs, and they are each awesome in different ways. Its unfair (and insulting) to say that a ROM is "not worth downloading".

I feel like I'm swinging the stick every time I hit that search button.
OP - Please, please, please use that search button.
Back to the matter at hand. I've always enjoyed CM7 for my stock fix. Mexdroid AIO (didn't really care for the new version) when I wanted something different. And finally I tried RevHD which was great for a Sense ROM.
I've been using ICS since T4z did his first port and haven't really looked back. Only thing I've been missing is the camera, and its not as big a deal.
quatro has working camera, or did I lost my mind .. ?
anyways, I asked the same thing a week ago, and I actually tried all of the "known", or should I say - popular roms, and this is my conclusion:
1. G-lite or G-slim. AOSP android expericence for speed. not so much good with OC which is a paradox by me, and people do not reccomend the OC (let's increase default speed, but do not temper with max speed, eh .. ? ) those are good "strpped" ROMS for freeing CPU&RAM. I dd not try the strpped CM7 verson as I dont like CM or MIUI (I prefer Andrody look more)
2. Virtuous Sense - for Sense experience. fully working ROM strpped of cr*p and fine tunned.
those are my favorites, but let's say that this is ALWAYS individual opinion, as I have read many people not liking these roms, and I tred 10 in one evening, giving every rom half an hour chance and I liked those 2 (3)

I didn't really mean it in that way, I understand that the devs have done a great job and their work shouldn't get slated, but what I should have put is 'older' and I'm looking for something that is recent but not ICS (as I want the camera working now and also annoyed at the odd bug and gfx glitches)
Sorry for that, I also have searched but as above I want something recent, and there are so many I don't have the time to download them all.

Yeah I know it's down to personal preference, just wondered what are the top roms that are 'good'
I'll check out those roms though, thanks.
I would highly recommend Virtuous G-lite or G2 slim, they are the simplest, most battery efficient ROMs for our phones but at the same time they're very fast. I've used every ROM for our devices except for a few Sense 3.* ones and the two i've recommended are the ones that i would still recommend each and every time that someone asks the question that you posed.
I am actually waiting for future development of ICS based ROM, cause Quattro is awesome (being the most stable ICS), and I tried it, but it has lots of bugs and crashes even like that. just the Dialer crashed 2 times for 1/2 hour testing, and there are some graphic screwups.
Virtuous is in hiatus, or we are in for a surprise, I guess. RC3 Quattro still isn't for everyday usage.

Still completely missing the point. If you ask what ROMs are good, that implies the remaining are "not good" or "bad".
They are all good. Just for different reasons.
Better to ask for personal favorites. Or better yet just browse through the already bazillion other threads on the same topic. Many of which are very recent, so you need not worry about the recommendations being outdated.
Andromadus audacity, any virtuous rom, or cm if you like cm. They are all good. Pick your poison try a few out.

my friend need to upgrade his desire to gingerbread 2.3, possibly with Sense UI
like you know, this is possible only with a custom ROM. so the question is:

imho best is:
1-stable
2-without bugs
3-fast

The reason you are getting all these insults is because you say that you are not new to xda yet you act like you are. It's not that you posted on the wrong section, it's because you asked a very common question that could have been answered by you doing a search query.
Or you could just say in one sentence which you think is the best sense rom. Jeezzz i dont understand why you take the effort to complain but cant answer a simple question.
In my opinion, cooldroid v3 is the best sense rom for the htc desire. Its a sens 2.1 based rom, which makes it very fast
yes, specify what stable mean perhaps is too much, but the main reason because i ask you is that with google and search function i've found only old information ......
if my previous question make your brain loop, just tell me which ROM are you using ..... ok ?

your question it's like "what's the best color?", we can't answer this, just try some roms and find it urself, in my opinion, all sense roms are stable, 3.5 doesn't match too fine as we want, but's usable anyway... ginger + 2.1 it's more fastest but idk...

development is still pretty active, despite the desire being the best part of 2 years old, so many of the roms there fulfill all your requirements, therefore in your honest opinion, nearly all are the best
even if you get many more replies from other users about what ROM they are using, it's only from users who can be bothered to post here, whereas most post in the rom threads themselves. experiences are often conflicting. one user's experience (AMAZING) with a rom can be completely different (LAGGGGGYYYY BUGGGYYYY) from another, which will only confuse you further. why? many combinations of apps/sync/launcher/kernel/hardware. most importantly, we all use the phone differently...
and in the time that it takes for people to post here and argue over which is AWESOME ROCK SOLID STABLE, NO BUGS, SOOO FAST and DEFINITELY THE BEST ROM EVER!!!!!11 you could have formed your own opinion by reading a snapshot of the threads, even install a couple and try them out, which is definitely the 'best' way of discovery.
which hopefully gives some further insight as to why best rom threads are pretty pointless...
there is no best ROM, only the best ROM for your needs (or your friend's needs in this case)
good luck, i hope you find will the best one, i'm still looking
Thanks. Soon I'll flash one off them and tell you which....

yeah cause I had tons of overheating, and resets with the other roms, especially when on 3G, or GPS... which was annoying... as for this one, I'm absolutely satisfied with
no overheating
good CPU clock
nice apps
lots of room on internal storage
those are perfect values for me, though someone else may have a different opinion
as for the minor buggs
it auto dials +1 in dialer (that's the one I've seen so far)
but You just get a new dialer from the market and problem solved
Sandvolds ICS 0.6.
IMO this is best for me.

And chose the most buggered one. Kudos.

I'm using Oxygen, one years.
For me it's Sandvold's ICS for Desire.
It has great support and works like a charm for the most part.
It has one or two major and some minor issues but that is to be expected it is still a beta mind you.
Overall its the best rom for my tastes. Its still under development and updates are released as much as twice a week. The development team and specifically Sandvold is always on the case solving issues and helping where he can.
Hello. I used Digital Karma on a HTC Evo 4g. have with the a force close in contacts. Can't import my contacts cause of that. Fixed permissions and restarted phone. Get same error. Aany suggestions?

Hey thanks for trying out my rom. Did you do a full wipe before flashing? I just exported my contacts to SD card and imported and its working just fine. If you got any more questions post on my thread or if you are unable to then shoot me a PM message, ill try to help
Awesome work
First of all nice work on DK5. Have no issues at all.
Second is a question...what kernel would you recommend for your ROM(s)?
---------- Post added at 09:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 AM ----------
I am posting this in the Q&A section because of my noob status and I registered solely to post this.
First a disclaimer: I have been a long time visitor/reader of XDA but never registered. I registered this morning for the sole reason of applauding DigitalKarma on such a fantastic ROM for the EVO 4G, DK5.
I’m not a developer. I’m an end user. More accurately though, I am a “flashaholic”. Not a day goes by that I am not searching for the next best thing in ROMs for my EVO.
I have run the full gamit of ROMs.
CM6, CM7, MIUI, MikRoms, Evervolv, MazWoz, Alter, Elite, Derp, Express, Nitrous, SOS, ODJDub. And that is just a start of all I have tried. AOSP, Sense 1, 2, an 3, ICS, you name it, I flashed it.
I look for aesthetics, speed, battery life, functionality and size in that order.
Those that look great and were fast, lacked in functionality with FC’s. Those that were functional and speedy, were usually so large that right after installation, I could not update apps do to the disk space taken up by the ROM, or, the battery meter moved faster than my gas gauge.
DK5 is hands down the best ROM I have tried in the past year. It meets and exceeds all expectations. Everything works. Everything is FAST and responsive, it is very pleasing to the eye (The Gomorrah clock is a brilliant touch btw). I have a new phone, and could not be happier with the results.
Stable, functional, fast, wonderful aesthetics and very good battery life.
Just wanted to commend you on your work and efforts and just say THANKS.
And I am all a flutter waiting for DK6. Keep up the great work!
hey sandtrapjack! thank you for taking the time to post thoughtful commentary on my rom and giving it a chance. the things you described are exactly what i had in mind while making this rom. i would love to hear more from you here on these forums.
as far as kernels goes, i still prefer the original Stock kernel that comes with the rom for the best stability. but if you're looking for an alternative i suggest you check out the kernels from ca1ne. he does great kernel work. links below for more information
Classic Sense Kernel: Stock kernel that behaves like a Stock kernel but with added performance tweaks. check this out if you want "closer to the stock experience"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557248
Underworld Sense Kernel: Stock kernel that behaves more like a custom kernel with over and underclocking capabilities, if you need to do that kind of stuff in your rom check this one out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570308
can't go wrong with either one. let me know how the kernels are working for you with this rom.
sorry if this is a stupid question,
are there any themes i can apply to this rom?
im looking for something pink or purple, for the wife of course.

nope not a stupid question at all, lol
currently there are no flashable themes for the rom. the closest thing to making the rom look appealing to the wife would be to go into htc wallpapers and use the pink flowery wallpaper thanks for trying out my rom!
Is there a rom and theme combo I could get her on? I really liked this one personally but she does not.

Just wanted to say thanks to DK for this amazing ROM I haven't been able to stay on a ROM for more than a few days without trying something new. I have no plans in the near future to flash anything bit new versions.

Just a little note here I'm not really sure if you tweaked the radios or something in that regards because with all other Roms whenever I use apps like YouTube and TuneIn Radio I always get weak signals and constantly buffering yet I tried out your DigitalKarma v5 Rom and there hasn't been any interruptions of no source... With that said yo kid you really out did it with this one... 5 STARS hands DOWN! son... I'm pressing the Thanks bottom like 1,000 times if I can... People people people try this Rom... Yo DK THANKS bro, Keep up the EXCELLENT work!

you're welcome! glad everything is working fine. hope to hear from you more in my rom thread. peace!
I reflashed and was able to get my contacts.......Good looking out. Great rom!!!!!!!
Ok DK, saw a "teaser" for your v6 ROM and went right to the OP to download, but v5 was still the latest and greatest. Just said "coming soon". Got excited is all.
Just keeping an eye out. you can bet as soon as v6 hits the downloads, I'll be on it like white on rice.
Cleanest ROM I've found for OG..... By Far!!!
I also registered just to let you know how pleased I am with Digital Karma. I've flashed more ROMs than I can count and have found a few that made the cut, but this one has 2 weeks running strong with no issues. NONE!!! Excellent work sir. I just want to say thank you........
Evo 4G
You sir have done an excellent job! Great ROM! No issues!
Thete is hardly any development on this phone. My note 2 and 3 there were tons of roms. But it's dead here . Every one leave sprint? Not that i blame them sprint is pretty lame. ..
Nah, my guess would be that since we all know Lollipop 5.xx is coming, the developers are probably waiting. It's still a pretty new device too. Jmho...

Cm and asop romz are built almost daily n there getting more stable
Hybrid-X Stock ROM is probably the most stable and best rom out at the moment. He is also woking on a dark version of the Stock rom. Soo many options unlocked in this rom.
I use to use CM as it was basically "Rooting for Dummies" I am not cutting anyone down (I use to love CM) but you dont have to think with that rom you install and it does the rest it will even update the rom for you. You dont have to think when you have that rom, you are safe and should not have any problems which is why I loved it. However their roms were not stable and updating too often so I tried other builds and found Hybrid-X to be the best so far.
My guess is tho everyone else is waiting for Lolipop to arrive. But tx is still working hard on his ROM and is always improving it even when he says he is done for a while, all of a sudden there is an update or a new mod you can use. If you dont use his at least watch the build and see what is still going on with his rom.

Oh and Sprint may seem lame to you, but all carriers have their own pros and cons. For me I left verizon and came to sprint for the unlimited data and I pay a lot less monthly. Went from having to data-mine and count my megabites, to not having to worry, and I typically use 60-70 gigs a month on just my phone I get my money's worth.

Maybe we should all jump ship to Verizon or AT&T. Oh wait, there is no development on either because you can't even root their Note 4's...

I was also curious about this, I'm not too familiar with the whole developer side of android, so I'm learning!
When the official lollipop version is released for the Note 4, will we see more ROMs being developed?, and higher quality? Or should I expect things to stay about the same?
I've really really enjoyed several ROMs I've tested, I'm just curious what to expect once the official Lollipop TW is released.
Good things come to those who wait
Someone on the Hybrid page said they went back to stock and are currently downloading Lollipop. Posted screen shots too, won't be that much longer if this is actually the case. I would assume there will be a lot more action soon, or else the roms that are being made will be the best and there will be no need for a ton of different ones.

Lolipop is out now for us
And now its eerily quiet out here now... Everyone must be trying to make the best Lollipop ROM! And trying to fix the bugs.
I know which ROM my money is on.

This was exactly the reason for the hault in production in KK roms. At least it was for me. No point wasting time on a soon-to-be out of date build. And to sum up the OP's initial post... for anyone who is not happy with the lack of roms for your phone, then there are options for you. You can learn to build your own roms and you can also donate to developers to support and encourage then to continue buildg roms for free. The only reason i started building roms for the Note 4 was because there was really not many if any devs building roms for us sprint users. I made the choice to get off my @$$ and do something about it instead of crying and making posts about it. FYI to anyone not aware... building roms takes a LOT of work and a lot of time. Take that for what it's worth. I would love to sit on my @$$ and wait for awesome roms to come out and not have to build them myself!!! That's the sweet life!!! to those of you who have shown your support and respect to the few devs here in the Sprint note 4 forums, we ALL Thank You!!!
