Noob mistake - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so i was playing around with the Google Now, to get it working on my device (running icecoldsandwich) and i might accidently have changed the permissions on the system folder, and now my device is stuck in a bootloop. I don't really know what to do know, i have been trying to access ADB in the bootloader so i can change the permissions from my computer, but i can't seem to get it to work. If anyone could help me i would be very grateful.
Cheers!

Flash the ROM again in cwm
Don't wipe only change

You must flash the ROM without any wipes, then all apps and data will be saved

Thank's both of you

You can also try to fix permissions (option in the recovery) to avoid having to reflash your rom.
But as said, yes, reflashing the rom without wiping should do the trick.

If still the problem prevails then do a full wipe and try to flash the ROM in cwm

Stuck in boot loop...

So I tried installing a status bar icon replacement on Cyanogenmod and ended up getting stuck on boot loop somehow...
I went into recovery and wiped data, wiped my cache and dalvik cache and it's still stuck on boot loop...
help?
reflash rom
the rom isn't on the root of my device anymore and I can't exactly set it there without it turning on.
Causes a slight issue I imagine?

it doesnt have to be on the root of your device, as long as its in your storage. if its in the storage, find that location amd flash it. now what do you mean you cant exactly set it there without it turning on? you lost me there.
The rom isn't on my phone whatsoever.
I meant I need to be able to have the phone fully turned on in order to move the zip over to it.

what recovery are you using? twrp has an adb sideload option, cwm might have something similar.
Just push another nightly zip over with adb, while in recovery. Simple! Don't understand what the fuss is all about.

if u made a backup for ur stock rom, then restore it.
if not, the easiest way is to reflash factory image using fastboot mode. or see my thread in signature
Pardon my noobishness, but I really would rather not unroot my phone and set it back to stock 4.1.1 unless it's my only option.
Either way, I created a backup last night but it doesn't work. When I tell it to install it says "no file found".
At this point, I'm willing to let somebody take over via viewfinder if it'll help >_>
Flash new custom rom
And every modification SYSTEMUI.apk make sure permision each others

Upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.2.X Fail...

So I attempted to upgrade my girlfriend's Galaxy Nexus from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 (this is on Verizon. Was using a Xenon HD version from last August and attempted to update to the newest version).
Well, since I'm an idiot, I didn't read up on the file system changes and now I can't figure out how to get everything working properly. I have the sdcard/0 now and haven't been able to move the files over from sdcard/0 to the sdcard.
All I want to do at this point is just restore a nandroid backup and start over from scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... I'm also having driver issues, so if there's any way to do this without using ADB, that would help immensely.
Thanks in advance.
The SDcard/0 is supposed to exist. Take 10 minutes to do the tiniest bit of searching and all your problems will solve themselves.

Yeah I can get into recovery but when I try to restore nandroid it says there are no files, and I know there is a backup.
I did a half hour of searching, but thanks for the help. I must not be searching for the right thing....

Yeah I can turn it on. Gapps didn't install, though, so I don't have a keyboard and can't install goomanager from the play store to update recovery. I also can't move files in the file manager because it times out very time.
if you still have the old xenon rom .zip file on the phone you could just flash that after wiping/clearing everything. then from there boot into recovery and see if you can see your nandroid backup of the old xenon she was on. not sure if this will help but worth a try. looks like the new xenon rom required a full wipe so something may be messed up that you could fix by flashing an older version

As 063_XOBX said, sdcard/0 is supposed to exist. Considering your comment later in the thread about not being able to find old backups, it sounds like you have an outdated recovery that doesn't understand the new file structure. Update your recovery rather than screwing with Google's intended file structure.

Need help ASAP -- Bootloop

OK, so I went into TWRP 2.6.0.0 and tried to flash CM 10.2. It came up with an error so I restored using the backup I had made, and after the restore it told me that root permissions had been lost, and asked if I wanted to fix it. I swiped to rix root permissions, and now it doesn't seem to be able to boot up.
It gets through the boot animation fine, bu gets stuck on the final screen where it flashes SAMSUNG across the screen. I can boot back into TWRP and have tried wiping data and starting fresh, installing a different ROM, everything I can to try to get it to start fresh, but the phone always gets stuck at the same screen flashing SAMSUNG.
Any ideas of what I should do to remedy this problem??

Start fresh again but this time in TWRP goto wipe/system that will rid all old rom files which sounds like your issue, worth a shot

Hopefully I can get a fast response here, I did that, but got a warning "No OS installed" before rebooting. Is that just telling me no ROM installed or does that literally mean that there is not an OS on the phone anymore? The second option seems unlikely but I don't want to risk it and mess things up even further.

well after you wipe everything including system you need to install a rom. IF your NOT currently OTA updated to 4.3 use billard's zip:::::
[ROM/RESTORE][!MD4 OTA!](5-10)Quick Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET
Wipe everything :/system
Flash billards zip
Flash root.zip to keep root
Flash recovery zip to keep custom recovery
reboot

Shouldnt be getting any errors installing/switching roms if your wiping correctly, If native tether is all your after then most if not all custom roms come with it enabled or you can keep stock rom and just flash the hotspot mod [MOD][Deodex][Odex][MB1][MC3][MD4][MK3]Hotspot Mod - Working 4G

I'm just as confused as anyone as to why I'm getting errors. The phone has proper root access and is running on TWRP, the same recovery I use on my One, and I have done at least 50-60 flashes of ROMs on that phone, without issue. I keep getting virtually the same error, something wrong with executing the updater binary in zip.

System UI not working on HTC One M8

Hi, My system UI keeps failing on my HTC One M8, I have no status bar or home button, back button etc appear on my phone!
Version main: 4.16.401.10 and CID Num is: HTC__001
I have done a factory reset, cleared the delvic cache, data cache.
I get two error message when android boots up, HTC Dot View has stopped and another error message, System UI has stopped.
Can anyone help me? Thank you
You're in luck, shouldn't be to hard to fix. If you have the stock/working system ui apk you should be able to install it as an app. I had the same problem after using softkeyz. If you need the apk dm @ [email protected]

Flash that and you should be good. You need the correct stock recovery installed.

Hi, Would I have to put in a stock recovery first then install the OTA (link you provided me) Thanks.
Restart the phone, then once it boots before doing anything tap the app drawer and go to settings. Go straight to the apps, and navigate to all apps. click on the HTC Blinkfeed app, and clear the data. After that go to HTC Dotview and clear the data. Restart the phone again. This should fix your problem. I had this problem a few times after doing a restore of my nandroid.

Boot into your stock recovery and go into wipe data/factory reset option.
That resolved the issue for me.

Fire TV 4k not possible to set up

Hello,
i've had this issue with the stock firmware so i thought installing twrp with a prerooted image should do it, but the same issue appears. After the language and network setup, the update (searching for an update) goes wrong. I've got another 2 4k's here and they work, so it's not network related.
Installing twrp and the rooted image was quite easy, nice to see twrp running on these devices.
But does a lineage or another custom rom for the 4k actually exist? I think with a clean rom the error would be gone.
I don't know how to make lineage for this device, i. just know how to install it
I've attached an image, maybe someone has an idea.

A Lineage OS rom is still under development and not released yet. Have you tried flashing the stock image (6.2.7.1)? Flash this in recovery, to see if it fixes the update error. You may need to flash Magisk to be rooted again. And this stock image WILL NOT overwrite TWRP. The prerooted roms that are released have Magisk built in so there's nothing different between those and the stock image in which has no root at all. Let me know if you have any questions!

From what I have seen, the tutorial for flashing the prerooted is really a dirty flash, and certainly from my experience (where I forgot to reset the device before flashing the image) all my apps were still there.
I'm sure you can wipe your system & data partition from TWRP, and then flash the image.
The only problem I can foresee is that the pre-rooted image might not be a full image which would cause your Firestick not to boot.
I suggest you head over to the pre-rooted image thread and ask if it's ok to wipe those partitions and also what the actual commands are.
I'm curious also - just for future reference....
p.s I just found this
https://twrp.me/faq/openrecoveryscript.html
which lists TWRP's commands, Just check first to see if it's safe to wipe those partitions.

I think the system partition would be the important one to wipe, data is mostly user data from what I remember.
If Skel40's link is a full image (as the prerooted one i might be), then maybe do all the wipes and try that one 1st..
Normally when I use TWRP I don't dirty flash, and I wipe system,data,dalvik,cache...
Good luck with whatever you try

You need to wipe system, data, dalvik-cache, and cache before flashing. Upon boot up after flashing 6.2.7.1, it skips the updates, I have a backup if needed!

You wiped everything (data, system, internal, cache, dalvik). There is nothing else, if you are flashing the full stock upgrade image. The device finds remote, connects to bluetooth, then finds Wifi, connects to wifi. Then the device errors (when checking for an update). Since you bought this device used, i highly suspect the device is blacklisted. Firestick 4k's are on sale for $25 again. I would cut my loses and hope someday for a custom (you can ask for a copy of the buggy one diegocr and Rortiz2 over in the tank 12.1 thread. But it is likely unusable at this time.

I don't think so. I believe it is sending its serial number to amazon when it connects to the internet. There used to be a work around that would bypass registration, but i believe that was blocked about a year ago. Maybe someone on here knows a work around since you have access with TWRP (file manager), If it were me, i would find the update files in TWRP and rename or delete them... i think they are in the root/system folder. Since you have a full backup i dont see much risk. If it fails to boot or work, just restore your system from a backup.
The files should be called:
device.software.ota
com.amazon.device.software.ota.override

But it'd be better if the Stick could be resurrected to work as a Stick.
