cannot use "back" button - excessive ???? in history - About xda-developers.com

Recently I have been noticing that I cannot use my back button. I'm using IE9 and clicking the back button doesn't seem to do anything. If I click and hold the back button I can see a list that is:
http://ads.xda-developers.com/tags/3884
If I click on the bottom of the list and click and hold again I get a long list of the same url. If I do this eight or ten times, I finally see the actual last page I visited. I'm not a programmer but I believe that what is happening is that all the ads on the page are reloading several times.
Is this my setup or is this happening to everyone? This has never happened here before and it happens nowhere else. I have found sites that don't allow the back button or somehow reload the current page but I have never seen this long list of seemingly meaningless identical urls.
What's going on?

I am having the same issue. Anyone ever find a solution to this?

You had another thread like this. Are you sure it is not just your back button? Are you clicking it right lol. Again, please for the good of humanity use a different browser. You will be very happy with chrome or firefox. But because many do not use IE, they cannot help.
Also the link is broken for me.
And does this have anything to do with XDA? I think Microsoft have their own dedicated forums for this kind of thing.

stock browser back button doesnt always work

Some sites (xda being one of them) just reloads the web page when I hit back unless I hit it like 2-4 times really quick. I think this has happened to me since gingerbread... Its kind of annoying, is there a fix for this?

I find that swiping to the right as the method for going back loads faster than the in-browser back button.
Hope that helps.
That's strange. On RT 8.0 back button is faster then swiping and also when swiping you can't touch or scroll anything until loading ends, but when using back button then you can.

I am also having this problem and noticed that it does that on IE Desktop and Metro. It is really annoying. It does not do that on my Note 2. I timed and it and it sometimes can take up to 10 seconds. Also has anybody else have issues with closing tabs. Sometimes the tabs become stagnate and can’t be closed unless restart IE Metro. I am currently running the Surface RT 8.1 with the latest updates. I love my tablet, but the whole browsing internet explorer is ruining it for me.
It's a lot better than it used to be. But it's still a little slow.
Not sure on the "swiping right" thing. I'll give that a go, I usually swipe left to go backwards.

I have the same issue with Surface 2 running 8.1. Swiping to go back one page immediately loads a "preview pic" of the last page, but until the page is really reloaded it doesn't allow to scroll. This can take quite long for slow / complex sites.
I also noticed an additional annoyance: after a few hours/days of use the swipe back function seems not to work anymore (sometimes it still works but doesn't show the panning page, and sometimes it does not work at all anymore). I need to restart Metro IE to make it work again. Did somebody else notice this?

Home Buttong / task manager opening

So, I have searched all over the net including here and I have not been unable to find an answer to my problem. After I updated to 4.3 for some reason now, whenever I press Home Button it automatically brings up the Task Manager, something it never did before. I have read this has being happening to a lot of people but I am just wondering if there is a fix for it. Now, my button press has not change from before, a simple tap on it. So its not like I am holding it down or anything.
Does anyone have a solution? I am not rooted, especially since I read that My Account now reads any rooted phone, so I am kinda worry that I will lose any warranty after they tag you.

Ehhh, I am not too knowledgeable on products that can map the keys to a different function without root. Give Home2 Shortcut a try but I do not believe it allows you to change the long hold button.
And you can root and remove the T-Mobile app. I just froze it using Titanium Backup so it's not a problem at all. :fingers-crossed:

Galaxy Tab Pro(10.1) Issues

Hello All,
I am starting this thread for known issues with the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1
So far I have noticed the following issues:
1. If you enable Google Search ans S-Voice and hold the tablet in your hand while putting a little pressure on the back of the tablet as if you were trying to bend it, does it launch either of the above mentioned applications? Mine does.
2. I also have a lot of apps exiting at random to the Home Screen.
3. Folders on the Home screen stop working at random. I have to press a few times to get them to work and then it only works sometimes.
4. Dolphin browser exits to the Home screen if i press and hold on any part of the webpage that does not trigger an article link. Sometimes it lunches Google search and/or S-Voice.
I am wondering if mine is defective or has a corrupt image. I have tried to reset it and reinstall my apps with the same result.
Thank you for you responses and I am looking forward to them.

I'm not experiencing the issues you described in 1-3. I just installed Dolphin and checked a couple pages, pressing on non-link areas as you described, and it didn't exit to the Home screen or launch the other apps.
I did find an issue in the My Files app the other day: If you rename a file within My Files, attaching that file to an email doesn't work because the renamed file doesn't appear in the list. I've tried with Gmail and the built-in email client, but neither could see the newly renamed file. Clearing the recent apps didn't help; I had to reboot the device and then I was able to attach the renamed file to an email.

Hello Jaegorith,
Regarding issues 1-3
1. Hold the tablet using both your hands, one on each side, you thumbs on the white part of the bezel and your eight remaining fingers, four each hand, on the back of the tablet while pressing with all your fingers and not really applying a lot of pressure but enough.
2. With me it is happening however I might be brushing the home button or the return key without noticing. I tried to pay attention but I do not notice me doing that however it could also be a bug with Kit Kat. I have not read anything on other forums that mentioned anything like it.
3. When I first created them them they were working fine however they started misbehaving after a little while.
4. If hold your thumb for 2 seconds on the screen, does Dolphin collapse to the Home screen?
5. I will look into our issue and try to duplicate the problem.
6. I typed this up on the tablet and while typing on the Samsung keyboard, Dolphin crashed to the Home screen severe times. I noticed that while pressing the space bar, being that it is close to the Home Button, it colapses. I am starting to think that my Home Button is reacting to my touches even though I am not engaging it directly.
Thanks for your reply.

Do you have to press your Home Button to trigger the action, like on the Galaxy s 4, or do you just touch it?
After calling Samsung tech support I found out that the home button should push in and mine does not. This is the way I received the tablet I already filled out an RMA request through Newegg. Sorry for the confusion.
Jaegorith, I have not yet tried to duplicate the issue you wrote about, however when I receive my replacement tablet tomorrow I will try it and let you know.

Vibrating pop ups in chrome browser on Pixel XL

So I have had my Pixel XL for just over a week now and for the last few days I have been getting annoying pop ups appear in chrome when browsing sites such as xda, phonearena and techradar.
When the pop up appears in chrome the phone vibrates and it will not let me close the tab. Usually the pop up will claim that I have won the lottery or a free iphone etc.
I have tried, deleting all history, cache, cookies etc from chrome since the beginning of time and I have done the same on my laptop to prevent it syncing back across. I have also tried resetting all network settings but the issue persists.
I get the same issue both on WIFI and on 3/4G.
Has anyone had the same issue? if so how did you fix it? I thought the Pixel was supposed to be a secure phone, i feel like its already riddled with malware!
Thanks in advance!
* I will grab a screen shot of the next pop up and upload it to this thread. *
Update 5th Nov: added Screenshot.
This happens to me from time to time. My best guess is that it's just malicious ads on the sites, and not actually malware on the phone or anything to worry about. Closing the tab has always ended it for me. What happens when you try to close it but can't?

I find it strange that sites like xda and techradar have malicious ads though? also this has only surfaced in the last couple of days? before this is had no issues...
My concern lies mainly in the fact that you can't close the tab. What happens exactly when you try to do that?
when the pop up if present on the screen you cannot press the tab button (top right) to close the tab. The way I get around it is pressing the switch app software button at the bottom and then selecting google chrome. I then get a split second to quickly press the tab button top right on chrome or the ad wont let me press it again. The pop up ad causes the ad to vibrate violently when chrome is open. Its winding me up.

I expect that it's a dialog box preventing you from pressing the tab button. Is this the case? If so, did you try checking "Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs", then dismissing it?
Thanks for your help, I. Was trying to find a way of preventing the pop ups in the first place if anyone has any ideas? Could it be a rogue app on my device, I've only installed a handful of 3rd party apps and most are from large companies, BBC, premier league etc.

Not a rogue app, my freshly restored Pixel does it. I installed an adblocker.

I installed AdAway, I did root my device.
Adguard works really well if you don't want to root.

Thank you, I will give this a go.
So I remember having this issue a few months back. I'm looking for the Google problem that was logged but from what I remember the issue is not device specific but actually based off of your unique google ad profile. These malicious ads are going after those ID's and then that's how you get vibrate ads on reputable sites. I stopped using personalized ads and that fixed the issue for me a few months ago. I will try to find the link to add. It is an issue Google is aware of.
Ad support is fine and XDA has the right to have ads.
Where I draw the line is the Ad described by the OP, I would complain to XDA.
With XDA I support the site by subscribing
I had the same thing happen to me. I determined it was a bad or unofficial .apk for ShowBox. Once I deleted it, the vibrating pop-ups stopped. I ultimately found the proper .apk, installed it and haven't had the issue again.
So I've installed Adguard and I'm a little concerned that my traffic is being routed through their vpn. I don't really trust that.
Also I've added a Screenshot of one of these annoying pop ups that vibrate my phone. FYI I didn't have Adguard running at the time.
I've also gotten these a few times. If I remember correctly I also noticed it on my Note 7.
Vibrating ads have nothing to do with malicious apps, webpages have permission to vibrate natively
Narrow down the problem... process of elimination.
Exactly what sites/pages/tabs do you have open when this is happening? Either your phone has been jacked and needs to be wiped (or maybe Chrome removed/reset) or you are visiting the same page(s)/websites that have been jacked. Believe it or not, this happens to some very reputable sites due to poor security on the part of themselves or an advertising vendor purchasing and displaying ads on the site.
