Okay, one other curious question...On CM10 7/29 build...is anyone getting Android File Transfer to work? Yes, I'm on a Mac, but it was working fine before, granted I had to call it a camera instead of MTP, but it worked just fine. Now that I got a 32GB SD, I'm wanting to transfer everything over, but now when I plug it in, I get nothing. Any ideas?
So, I've flashed all the roms on my SD card...CM9, CM10, Ultimatum, AOKP, now I'm on Paranoid Android(liking this one best because it's a mix of CM10 with more stuff working so far..) but anyway. I noticed on all of the JB-based roms, Android File Transfer no longer works. This wouldn't be an issue because I could flash Ultimatum, which is ICS-based, right? Still doesn't work. I've read around and some people say Samsung updated something that broke AFT for mac...but I'm just not sure. I just got a new 32GB SD, so I want to move the stuff from my 8GB to this one...but using wireless solutions will take hours on end...and I'm not even sure which one of these works the best. Any ideas?
I believe the file transfer on android does not like to work with cm10 on this phone and its not an issue that seems too high on the devs list because of the few amount of mac users. Really sucks but meh, honestly if i want to transfer stuff i boot up windows through bootcamp and do my thing
My suggestion is, flash a stock based rom and just move the majority of the stuff using mac and then for smaller/more periodic stuff after that you could just use a wireless transfer thing. Because for me, after my initial sync of all my music i usually only sync photos or a few songs at a time so wireless syncing wouldn't be too big of an issue.
Indeed, I found a workaround to use CyberDuck to transfer stuff...of course, my first big transfer is going to take hours, which sucks---I wish they would look at this issue...even if Mac users are the minority, that's a pretty big issue-Normally I wouldn't have issue with either dual boot or Parallels, but I'm broke at the moment so I'm running a G5 iMac. While it runs, you can imagine how slow it can get, since this is pre-aluminum models... I tried flashing a stock-based rom (Ultimatum) and it still didn't work. I've heard that a Samsung minor update might have broken it, but I didn't get any OTA updates. I'm just glad CyberDuck/SSHDroid let it work just like my jailbroken iPhone works with CyberDuck the same way, so I'm familiar with it. I guess I'll need to go back around the forums I was searching for answers on and post a tutorial on using CyberDuck with the S3.

As we all know the stock ROM that verizon pushes to our phone has a new annoying feature. When u connect the phone to the PC it makes a virtual CDROM drive. Ever since that got created on my phone it has caused me nothing but headaches. Namely that it causes my optical (DVDRW) drive tray to cycle open and closed. I thought that once I rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM that would go away. Sadly this is not the case. how do I get my phone to stop creating this virtual drive? Im assuming there is something in the ROM that can be changed to stop this. Now I know there is usually a CDROM.ISO file that exists in the stock HTC ROM and if u remove/rename that the drive wont show up in My Computer. My question is why does the HTC Android Phone USB device still appear on my system? Is there a way to prevent my phone from doing this? I am really tired of having my drive tray open and close for hours on end. I have taken to disabling the DVDRW in the device manager to get it to stop. I want to avoid doing that. Please help.
Nobody has any ideas??
Well I have some news. After I posted here on a whim I decided to send a support email to HTC. And they responded with some nifty instructions.
1. dial ##7764726
2. hit call
3. Type password 000000 (thats 6 zeros)
4. hit feature settings
5. choose cdrom
6. click disable
7. hit menu then commit modifications (it will say no item changed)
I tried the above instructions but I did not get any password box. It actually called the number. Maybe this only works if you are on the stock ROM? Anybody have any ideas about this?
The tip that they gave you won't stop it from showing up as a CD-ROM Drive. All that does it prevents that prompt for VZW driver installation. Any ROM based on the stock ROM (Virtuous, Skyraider, Redemption, etc.) will have this CD-ROM drive show up, though most of those ROMs have the driver issue disabled by default.
Switching to an AOSP ROM (like Cyanogen(mod)) will get rid of it.
I tried the HTC tip from within the stock rom and it does show up.
Why is it that this was never removed from any of the roms based on the stock rom?
I have tried Cyanogenmod and it restarts on me at the wierdest times.I can not even be doing anything with it. And poof it will restart. Dunno why either.
Rooted, yes? SwiFTP from market, no USB cable necessary.

Yes its rooted. Thats how i got cyanogenmod flashed enuf to know its restarting for no reason. Seeing as my 2yo lost the wall charger adaptor somewhere in the house its the only way I have of charging my phone. its also how I put my audio books and music on my phone. The amount of data moving across is more than what a wireless connection should transfer. Its alot faster with a direct connection. Besides, Doubletwist airsync is not worth the money.

CM6 or CM7? CM6 is stable. Minor bugs, but reboots shouldn't be noticeably more than stock. On stock, I'd get maybe one reboot per week. On CM6, about the same.
CM7 is considered in an alpha state right now. It's going through nightly builds. Each build adds a feature or two, and then the next build is meant to add in another feature or two, while fixing bugs that came up from the last build's feature introduction. We may not see a release candidate for at least another month due to the fact that their remaining feature list to be implemented is still rather long.
Bottom line is, if you're slamming CM7 for stability, well, that's to be expected. It's not even officially in beta yet. The sad thing is, it's more stable than all but the grade-A ROMs out there today.
No CM7 for me. I live and breath with my phone to use something that is still being developed. I had flashed the following flavors of ROM:
Incredibly Re-Engineered rebooted 4 times in a matter of 8 hours.
Cyanogenmod 6 stable rebooted twice in the same time period.
I flashed nothing else to the phone except the radio which is 2.15.00.11.19. I did the radio b4 I even got around to flashing the rom and never had a single issue with it. Wanted to make sure nothing was gonna go south b4 moving on. Had the radio flashed for over a week and never had to restart my phone once. Im just trying to find something other than the stock rom.
I like the cyanogen rom cause it has the vanilla interface. Thats the first thing I flashed. Only part I didnt like about it was the camera interface. Felt like I had less control over settings. Also there are no ability to do wide screen pics from what I have been able to figure out. i like that ability. Hence the switch to the Reingineered. Was happy with it for the most part. Felt snappier than the stock interface only had a problem hitting the button for the phone cause it was so blasted small on the screen. Kept fat fingering the home and menu buttons below the screen. I want something stable and doesnt lose any of the features I have on the stock rom. I know thats asking alot but one can hope.
UD?
Maybe try UltimateDroid v 2.5?
Lots of features you describe - I run it w/ InvisibleK's #18 kernel, haven't been happier.
Plus, no annoying popups when connecting USB
I do know that Skyraider sense 3.5 has the CD-ROM feature removed. That rom is based off of sense if you like that kind of stuff( I know I do)
So basically all that will show up in device manager (if you have Skyraider rom) will be the mass storage device(s): SD and internal. No cd-rom device detected from phone. If I remember correctly, I think the developer created a script that removed that from his rom.
Ill give it a whirl
This has been plaguing me for way too long! I couldn't get my S3 to connect with my Mac. I thought the first ICS update did something to keep ATF from reading my phone. I finally found a solution for getting Android File Transfer to work on my iMac with my Galaxy S3 even after the Jelly Bean update and on a custom ROM. I'm currently running Wicked JBv1, but I'm pretty sure this will work even if you're on stock or with any custom ROM. I found this solution in the Tmobile forums and I give the credit to user dk123 for posting it. I'm running OSX Lion by the way.
First make sure you remove the Kies software from your computer. I used appZapper.
Then I removed ssuddrv.kext from System/Library/Extensions. I made a copy of the file first and saved it in my documents just in case something goes wrong.
Before reconnecting my phone i made sure to check USB Debugging and when I reconnected it AFT found my phone instantly.
I don't know how helpful this may be, but I've been wondering for months why ATF wasn't working. It's still not the most user friendly way to connect your S3 to your Mac, but at least I can move music files over fairly easily without having to use the crappy Kies Software. I hope this helps even just one person.

Kies Air is the s&%$.
Use AirDroid app. All you need is your computer and your phone on the same Wifi network and a browser.

S-beamed from my GSIII via xda premium
That is a pretty good program, but my music library is a little on the large side. I like the quick use of AFT for moving ROM downloads or moving pictures off my phone. Small stuff. Kies is just way too slow and klanky on my machine.

From finder, click on your hard disk, then find click on system folder, then library folder then extensions folder. Scroll down to find the file and drag a copy to your desktop before deleting it.

:laugh::laugh:
 I nearly cried/ That's brilliant. We were in a parallel universe, you and I with the android/mac connectivity and yes Kies really isn't geared for Mac users. ATF is clunky but certainly productive, And it would seem, the only way around the problem since Apple have fallen out with, well, most every other competitor, Especially Samsung given their legal arguments the last couple of years. Amyway, I'm waffling. Just wanted say thanks for the detective work and the solution.
My youngest son wants an iPod Touch for Christmas - and due to some unfortunate circumstances i just don't have the cash to drop on a device that he may not take care of anyway. He has a Samsung Tab3 7" kids edition (orange one) currently and uses it often but it's not exactly portable and mom is tired of being a sherpa with it in her purse.
I have an old HTC Evo 4g from sprint that I want to turn into a wifi only tablet for the time being. Eventually i may try to get it over to Boost or similar but for now here's where I'm at.
Sprint network flash, current android version 2.3.5, baseband version 2.15.00.01.15, kernal 2.6.35.10-g8b16b68
build 5.07.651.6
software 5.07.651.6
browser WebKit/533.1
no PRI or PRL loaded currently - this phone is deact from sprint when I upgraded the device
Again, i'm an utter newb when it comes to messing with the guts and OS of the phone.
I intend on putting a 32 or 64 Gb SD card in it for him to store apps and photos/music.
I'll use one of the many intermediary apps to allow him to video chat with his buddies who are IOS families (gag...)
can someone please steer me in the right direction to reduce some of this devices functionality and possibly steer me to a functional ROM for what i'm trying to do? I've seen a bunch of ROMs available, but all of the lists fail to mention what funtionality these ROMs represent.
Your help will be much appreciated...
Anyone?

Ubersonic is a good wifi, just installed it last night and so far so good. You can turn on Wifi and use it like a tablet, but I didn't see any way to control/turn on/off the regular phone antenna.
my impression of ubersonic is that it basically shut down all the phone antennas and as an effect of this diables or dis-functions (is that a word?...it is now ) the GPS. I'm hoping GPS still works afterwards. I just can't seem to figure out how to flash this ROM with the tools I have. I found a zip mirror of ubersonic - do i just load this into the root of the SD drive and use the recovery console on the phone to flash rom from SD?
I also have read multiple places that I should partition my SD card as well. I get the principal, but i'm a bit aprehensive to move forward with this. My impression of how this is done is to copy all contents of my SD card to the PC, then using the recovery console go ahead and partition, then put the PC copy of the contents back on the SD...what does this really accomplish? should the roms be in a different drive partition? Apps in another? how do i manage this?
Also, with regard to partitioning, i need to make a nandroid backup of the current OS now, and save that but i cant find this cleanly documented either. Look, i know i'm getting into this whole rooting thing late, but now i'm more than intrigued...seems there's a LOT that can be done with the phone and the right tools. They don't teach this crap in school around here.
Took me a couple tries, but i have it running now, so far i like it a lot. .. still treating. Minecraft seems to be a little quirky but I'm gonna let my son decide.

Do you have a bootloader driver for Windows 8-10? I am trying to get one unlocked through the HTC site but the device won't show up when in the bootloader screen.

I don't. I had to resort to reluctantly use my work laptop rubbing win 7 Enterprise.
My Note arrived. It's great but weird having used iPhones for the last 6 years. I feel somewhat uncomfortable using it but that's because I'm still finding my way around.
Anyway I have a question. I don't get how to use Samsung cloud. I don't get how to back up my photos. It's saying I've used 150MB of cloud storage but I have around 1.5GB of photos. I've also moved all my photos from SD card to internal pictures folder. Any help?
Thanks
Using IOS for six years and then moving to Android is such a big jump most people wouldnt dare, so, seriously, hats off to you.
Anyway, since you are new to Android, I would suggest to just use the Google photos App and backup everything (photos) to your google account and you would get much more freedom.

Since I use Windows, I never needed an application to transfer music or files from my laptop and this is the case with most if not all Android phones. I would suggest to download Kies (which is like Itunes of Samsung phones), just google Kies for Mac and it will be your first hit.
I am suggesting Kies for another motive, which is you might have a driver problem that does not work well when you connect the phone to your laptop. So when you install the software it will probably fix that and you would not need the software ever again *fingers crossed*. Or you can use Kies anyway, you might like it.

I too switched from iOS to android which meant I needed to transfer my iTunes library to my note 7. I used something called isyncr which is free on the desktop available for windows and Mac but it costs £7.99 in the Google play store (unless you want the extremely limited free version). Anyway, I bought it and it was super easy to setup, you select specific playlists, srtistd, albums whatever you want. Then it took about like 10-15 minutes and I transferred nearly 2000 songs onto my SD card. It was really handy.
Hello, my device is an HTC ONE M8, S-on, Rooted, TWRM recovery. I have tried a dozen different roms and ways to boot my phone and i absolutely am baffled and confused why my speed is lacking. Every single ROM i try i get from 8mbps to 36mbps. Before i rooted my device i was getting over 250mbps(I pay for 350). I have tried all kinds of things and am about to entirely give up on my device being mine, slapping the shackles back on her, and dragging her through the dirt of... STOCK. Anyways, jokes aside i really need help with fixing this issue alongside every ROM i did try had some kind of bugs here or there. One i was very very fond of was teh SLIM Rom. Tried versions 6.0 and 4.4.4 6.0 was great but it lagged(another issue, dont know why all android 6.0 versions lag on my phone, yes im making sure ROMS are device compatible). 4.4.4 i love but every time i factory reset with TWRM and reinstall it has a new problem and the previous is gone. first it was calendar crashing on boot, then it was wifi not even turning on. I'm getting off topic of course as this issue is better suited directed towards the developers of that ROM. My issue is that no matter what ROM i use for 6.0 i get wifi speeds absolutely horrible compared to what i use to get and the phone will lag and drain battery super super fast on 6.0 even using ROMS that claim their 6.0 saves more battery than standard. Currently i have no ROM installed and just TWRM. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
To add real details::: The wifi is considerably slower than i use to get after rooting and installing custom ROMS. My wifi also on many roms i tried will refuse to connect to my router on my desk. i have a 5.0 and 2.4 band router. If i tried connecting to the say 2.4 after trying 5.0 in the list it'd anounce 5.0 was disabled and not even connect to 2.4 and vice versa. Also as a side note whenever i try android 6.0 ROMS my device screams to a hault in speed even when ROM devs claim it's faster to use their ROM than the default provided by HTC. not to mention serious battery drain.
If you need information list it, if you have recomendations or questions please state them.
*Edit: Here's a photo, i managed to get into the files of my phone. They all start out with the blue icon but every time i refresh it "fixes" some of them. also the downloads folder is empty and when i try to add files it says my phone isnt responding. Debugging is on.
*Also a bit of random info on a hail mary. My computer slows down a ton and the file explorer crashes upon opening when my phone is plugged in via USB. If my phone is plugged in the file manager locks up. If i try to "force" open a file in my phone it blue screens my computer. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. My ps is sabertooth r2.0 990fx, 8350 cpu, r9 290, 1,300w psu, 16GB dual channel RAM.
