Restoring apps via Titanium Backup from another phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Are there any issues I might run into if I restore the apps I backed up from my HTC EVO onto my S3?

I would do only apps.. One at a time... And be cautious on data for some apps...Especially older system apps. But generally you should be fine. I moved from og epic with only a couple minor things that an uninstall fixed.

I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DONT DO THIS... Maybe it was just a fluke with my phone, but after doing this my phone wouldnt charge... kept saying charging paused battery temp. too high/low....wouldnt even charge when powered off and i had to get a new phone.
This occured after installing apps one by one and only restoring data for 2 games. i didnt install any system apps from my old phone.
if you decide to do it tho i'd like to know if you encounter the same issues that i had.

Yea, I was only planning on restoring user apps without data. No system apps.

That's strange. I've got a bunch of apps so it'll be a pain in the ass to install them one by one but I don't want any problems.

Mass restoring user apps with data has never been an issue for me. I've done it between all my devices...but of course if you do run into issues, you have to go back and see which app is causing any instability. Chances are you'll be fine

Yeah, I didn't think it would be a problem either.... that's why I did it. this was the only thing I did to my phone besides rooting and I had to buy a new phone . Didn't flash any ROMs or mods...very strange. Maybe I just had a defected phone

Hmm how long has it been since setting it all up. It might just be all of the google stuff syncing... I had the same thing happen to me! Leave it for 20 minutes or something and see if it works any better
same issue here.. I HATE IT
I doubt it is because of root or rom. I had this issue as wel up until yesterday. It was suddenly fixed. I think because I usually install apps using Astro (or any file explorer), because of hard resetting etc. I thought maybe if i install an app directly from the market, it would fix it. I installed 'msn talk', did a reboot and it's fast now.. I don't know if this was what made it work, but it's working great now.
edit: before that I tried to uninstall a market update and reinstall again. But it was still slow after uninstall, reinstall and cleared caches.
I am on a non rooted device btw.
I`ve rooted 4 devices today and all same to have this issue .. ?
Just out of interest were any of you also missing the "top paid" tab as well. It was missing from my market after rooting as well as the slowdown, then it just appeared about a half hour in. Also did any of you have a similarly slow market when you first got the device. I am on T-mobile and for the first couple of days it was lagging in much the same way as it is now. Maybe it is to do with something new devices do, like the Google sync suggested.
I found that it is best to install all apps manually. Backup programs somehow slow everything down for me! Plus I dont know if the updates are pushed to you because the g market doesnt think you have installed them
My market is so slow but I didnt rooted my device
same issue here...

is that new issue or something to do with android market??? recent update or something? or it is just the desire? Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
It's the same with mine (not rooted) since about 4 days. Have to keep rebooting even to try and install/uninstall anything.

Hmm..
No problems here at all.
Fast market, top paid apps showing.
Rooted with r3 linux cd method.
did not install a2sd.
so far no hiccups at all.
I'm getting this. Rooted, Apps2SD.
Been on a few different ROM's, now back to the original rooted one.
Not all of my restored apps (using Titanium Backup) were showing when I went to Downloads. What I have just done is got Settings - Applications - Manager Apps and cleared the market cache and all the apps seems to have returned. Still very slow though... but maybe getting quicker. Is it a syncing thing?
Anyone that did have the slow down, is it getting quicker now?
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

Hello,
Yes before i rooted the Market was a dogs arse, Very slow, then after a day or to, it was as fast as i would expect it to be, then i rooted my device, again it was slow for a few days, but is now back to normal.
I think it just needs time to sort its self out, like a alcholic the morning after!!.
The only thing i have used diffrently since i rooted was the cache cleaner app in the market.
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

It's not instant, but I had to do it again yesterday. I cleared cache and installed about 30 apps. By that time the market was back up to speed.
what if you have no cache to clear and the problem still persists
try logging into google talk, that works for me

Issue with EVO's Peep app.

I just noticed that I can't see who sent me a direct message. I have heard of it on the Desire but not EVO. Anyone else having this issue and what can I do to fix it?
Peep is terrible man its usually the first app I delete on my phone lol; plus its plagued with bugs and I believe it drains alot of battery. Try the official twitter app or seesmic.
I just wanna know if its my phone only.
That's a bug with peep in general, still no fix yet.
Huh, I wonder why I never saw it before. I guess my last direct message was December2010
It has happened to me before and others with evos have reported this issue before. It seems to be a hit and miss, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't.
It pretty we have to root to remove something that doesn't work.

Yeah with no root you're stuck with a broken app(peep) that drains battery. Root is awesome, try titanium backup if you want to remove it.
I ended up using the twitter for android. It seems to work well.

Good call. That's the same one I use and its not a cpu hog like peep.
just a question, if I root with Unrevoked 3, and do a backup with the clockwork isn't all my apps including embedded apps backed up?

Not going to waste time

Ok, so in an effort to not waste anymore time searching and reading and getting a tiny bit confused. To all of my rooted Incredible partners who were using 2.2 Froyo before the root, and stuck with HTC Sense after the root. What apps are perfectly fine to get rid of completely and it wont mess up the DInc at all ?
Why stuck with HTC sense? I don't think i understand your question.
As far as removing apps pretty much anything that is not essential and most of the stuff you won't be able to remove.
I just now rooted my DInc but ive had for a few months so I'm just used to Sense. My question was pretty much me just wondering exactly which apps that came with the phone were ok to uninstall with Titanium Backup, like uninstalling them wouldnt mess up my DInc, like cause it to brick, or something to not work properly.
I don't remember stock lol.
Check this out.

I know it says 2.1 but it's a good start.

Did you make a NANDROID backup of your phone? If not do so now. You can do it via rom manager or boot into recovery and create a backup file. So in case you have issues you can restore your phone from an image.
Titanium backup won't be able to bring you back from disaster if your phone won't boot.

Use Titanium Backup and start by freezing the apps first before removing them. If freezing doesn't cause issues, then you can, more than likely, remove the app. I prefer to just freeze them, does basically the same thing.
I would simply freeze them, but TB wont let me. It keeps saying that to be able to freeze, I need to be on the donate version of it, which Im only guessing is the paid version.

It is the paid version. It is worth the $ IMO. Safer than deleting something you need.

I agree with trickster. TB is very much worth the money. When I first got it, I had just rooted - deleted an app and restored it with no problem. Then I tried removing a "stock" app. Gone. Can't reinstall... Freezing it is the way to go. Then again, you might want to consider a nandroid backup before doing anything at all.
I have a backup of all of the stock HTC apps somewhere. I had removed one of the stock apps on accident, so I had just used that and restored the apk... worked fine after that.

[Q] my Epic process problem

along with the android.process.acore issue im getting a slew of other errors. cant make any calls, cant load any contacts or messages. Im on SFR 2.1 everything was working fine earlier today, I cant think of anything I did to cause this. Im super stressed, iv searched around, people say to re-flash the phone... that makes me nervous.. what should i do? any help is much appreciated.
Sounds like data corruption. Are you journaled? Did you have an abrupt power off of the phone?

If you have a recent nandroid backup, restore it from cwm. If not, you will need to reflash the rom.

I doubt it's a hardware issue, sounds like data corruption potentially caused by lack of journaling an unstable undervolt/overclock or a combination of the two. Reflash your ROM of choice, and turn on journaling (if it's not already). It's a slight performance hit, but well worth it. Honestly the only time you'd even notice a difference is during a benchmark, these phones are plenty fast enough.
so I just re-flashed my phone... all my wonderful apps are gone.. all those high scores..everything. Im so sick of this phone.

It's your own fault. At least learn from it, utilize apps like titanium backup to backup apps and settings, make weekly NAND backups and enable journaling so it is unlikely to happen again.
I just had that happened to me about two hrs ago an don't know waht to do. It seem like my epic won't read my sd card and titanium back up and all my other apps are in there! I lost my google, facebook, clock, and almost everything force closes!!! Any help out there???

Bad flashing can happen on any phone. You would have had the same problem with journaling off on any phone. You can return this phone and still flash yourself into force close hell on a different phone. You aren't using Android right, it's not the Epic.

DINC 2 - I Think My Wife Deleted Something She Shouldn't Have....

Long story short, she loved the DINC 2, we bought her one (I have a DINC) and I rooted and all that crap to ditch the bloatware. That being said the other day she was in the menus and turning things off and I think she may have jacked with the Google framework. I can't sync her contacts, add a Google account, or access the market. I tried reflashing the ROM but without a wipe it looks hopeless. Is there an APK or something I can install in order to restore the functionality?
Thanks in advance.

Flash Google apps "gapps"
sent...ah whatever its on there now..
That is actually a bug with the stock firmware. Happened to me several times. Go into manage applications and see that many things are greyed out. You need to factory reset. This is caused be deleted apps from the manage applications menu. Just happens randomly when doing that.

I noticed this happened on my friend's rhyme. If they factory reset will the issue still occur?

More than likely... I had to do a factory reset three different times on my Inc2 when it kept losing google related apps, rooting it solved those issues though
Flash a different ROM other than stock. Something's wrong with it. I lost my alarm.
