Taking pics while recording video. Check! Works fine!
Is there an option to take pics from an individual screen frame? As in I pause a video and instead of a low-res screenshot, it takes a full quality frame grab as a pic? I realize it wouldn't be 8mp, but it'll be better than a screenshot.
Thoughts?

You can't do that, your video is in 1080p no where close to 8mp frame therefore you won't be able to do it, btw for question use the q&a forums, development is only for roms, hacks, kernels, etc

Now I know the TP2 is not a digicam ... But can anyone share any tips on how to get the best out of the TP2 for video recording.
Some thoughts I have include:
1) Fast SD card
2) 3rd party video software???
3) Improving fps from 12.5. I guess reducing resolution..??
However I appreciate the TP2 is a phone .... but with some jolly useful extras.

A quick one. When recording with the touch pro 2 is there a black border to the right side of the picture you are recording? that means the picture you are recording doesnt fill the screen. I just noticed this tonite and i dont think this has always been the case
since I posted my question over 30 people have read it but have just moved along without helping. This isnt a difficult question and all someone has to do is pick up their phone, launch the camera and click on video recording to see if the black border exists. This should not even take you a minute but people just read and move on. If I start a new thread asking my specific question, you,ll get some id1ots talking rubbish about using the search function. well I have and it doesnt return any results for my query. So is there any sensible person out there willing to check this out for me?

Yes, there is black strip on the right side of the screen but ONLY when you save video. When you play this video it is over full screen.

12.5 fps? Probably for videos meant as video messages (eg vzw flix mms). But with Mp4 I had 15-20 fps even in 640x480. Best advice. use MP4 video. Stay away from H.264 because that is CPU heavy and results in blocky looking video. Black border on the right side? It only means you are not recording in widescreen mode and does not show up in playback. Select the widescreen option in advanced options and border is gone. Not sure if this will work on video, but it does on pics.
I'm not all too thrilled with CoolCamera. First, it's buggy as hell. Second, it's not free. And third, it doesn't work on all devices. I tried it on my Q9M about a year ago. Hasn't been updated since then. Since the Q9m has a crappy camera, I wanted more options. Unfortunately this program didn't help, as the options didn't work on that phone. The camera on my TP2, different story. Very advanced compared to the Q's crappy setup. Don't even want to try CoolCamera on this thinking it might be worse off than factory HtcCamera. There have to be better options then that program (CoolCam). The developer of that app has focused on his webcam app instead.
How did you get your camera to record at 640x480 my Tilt2 doesnt seem to have that option

You mean instead of taking full 5mp photos, you want the camera app to crop the top and bottom of the photo and downscale it to 2mp? Because thats what 1080p is.
When viewing a picture on a Widescreen monitor, an HDTV or our phone's screen for that matter, 16:9 just looks better.
Anyone know if this is on the to do list, or if there is a way to do enable this on the stock camera app?
Surprised the camera doesn't default to 16:9. Most phone cameras haven't used 4:3 in a long time.
zoom in on the photo if you're bothered, I'd rather have full resolution and make full use of the 4:3 chip inside than having some cropped off.
It's as bad as the people who moan when DVDs, Blu-rays and film channels (at least here in the UK) show films properly which means there's black bars at the top and the bottom, I'd rather see the whole thing that have some edges chopped off!
Whats also interesting is if you take a picture while recording a video in 1080p or 720p for that matter, then those shots are in widescreen.
Forget which quality is better for a second and think about the fact that this will lead to having different aspect ratios for some of your pictures since theres no way to force is on the Camera shots.
I dont know whether the quality is better with widescreen or not (it sounds like not) but I think we can all agree we'd rather have the option to turn it on or off.
Hopefully it comes in an upgrade or MOD at some point.

Yes, Vignette seems to work well on ICS. That said, I haven't found a way to make it shoot 16:9 stills. However, it looks like Camera360 Ultimate might -- and for whatever reason, it is free in the Market as I type this.

Yeah guys, VIGNETTE works well on SGN, you ca adjust aspect ratio to 16:9.
I have just purchased this and need to try how is the quality now...
but at least it works in wide screen mode, even though the effect is more or less a zomed in pictures, but the app can save simultaneously the original 4:3 photo as well. . It would be better to have a native 16:9 camera..

What ROM are you using and what settings in Vignette to get it working? On my SGN it won't even refocus, it crashes as soon as I touch the screen and I get this message:
VIE encountered an error.
Runtime error: java.lang.
UnsupportedOperationException
I sent the dev an email ages ago but haven't received a response.
I've tried rebooting, un-installing, re-installing, full wipe, turning force GPU rendering both on and off and nothing seems to work :,(

Most camera-chips and camera's are 4:3, including on high-end DSLRs.
If you want it to have a widescreen look, either zoom in or just crop it. It's not that hard.

Yeah, and this is limitation for capturing normal widescreen photos. For example, my previous xperia neo has 8M camera and it native sensor has 4:3 (3264*2448) or total ~8 million pixels. But it software camera has 16:9 mode which crop top and bottom lines for 16:9 (3264*1839) or total ~6 million pixels. At the end, our gnex camera has 4:3 (2592*1944) or ~5 million pixels. For cropping this to 16:9 we'll have only 1458 for height. This is totally loss information for such a sensors.
If your such a camera nazi then crop the pics to 16:9. But i agree with the people that say why downgrade quality , im sure if they did you would start a thread on nexus camera not detailed photos

It's actually 3:2. Only Olympus produces 4:3 DSLRs.
Back to the main topic, if you want to capture somewhat widescreen images OP, try Camera ICS.
It doesn't do 16:9 but 3:2, at least. It also offers various improvement.

No, it's 4:3 but there's a setting in Camera ICS that automatically crops 4:3 images to 3:2.
By doing so, you lost about 0.5mp (from 5.0to 4.5mp) which isn't a big deal.

Install Camera JB+ from the app store. It gives the option of Widescreen (16:9) pictures but you have to compromise with MP (3.8MP)
Hey guy's been fiddling about with my one x and igcamera from android market,managed to record 1920x1080 video in stereo at 128k audio and 28mbits video at around 29 fps! it's far smoother than the standard crap what htc has left us with! only draw back i can see so far is when you start recording the screen seems to change to some weird aspect ratio?
Settings i used were continuous video auto focus,128k audio.30mbit capture in full 1920x1080 has anyone else used this prog and managed to figure out why the aspect ratio changes when you start recording?

in all seriousness, i dont know. "widescreen pics" is an option on Camera ICS from the play store...but last time i downloaded it, i couldn't find the setting.
just take photos in 4:3 and crop the top and bottom off. thats all it would do if it supported 16:9 in the camera app.

Hey guys. I am taking pictures and video at 60FPS with this camera and they are awesome but I've noticed sending them through text destroys the quality and was wondering if anyone else was having this problem? Also Facebook as well I upload a video in HD and it the quality comes out horrible (yes I have the setting on in Facebook to upload in HD). Is there a known issue with this and does anyone know a work around, if so? Thanks in advance!
Texting videos always makes it very low quality. Facebook is only a little better even when HD is checked. You can post to youtube in 4k and share the link in facebook.
Edit: And it supports 60fps.

See that's what's weird, I know it supports it but I tried uploading the video I took in 1080p 60FPS and if comes out in crap quality. I just don't get it... Used to take 4k videos with my Samsung and never had this issue

That looks grainy to me... When I watch the video I upload on my device it plays great... The quality others see is not what I take...

It is in lowish light quality. Like I said completely unedited. It shows at 1080p after reloading the player. I guess it takes time for youtube to process. In what way is your video bad?

Grainy low quality... Looks sharp as hell on my actual device and excellent quality but grainy and blurry when uploaded

I think I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately I was shooting on a very grainy textured wall. Try saving the video to a computer first and then upload it. Just in case the built in uploader is processing it before sending. Will have to check and see what is doing it. You can also try copying a good 4k video and sending it to see if it knows where it is coming from and trying to convert it. I did notice the quality improved over time as youtube seems to do some background conversion. As far as the difference from your samsung device you can compare by sending a video from the pixel that you shot on your samsung.
Interesting to see if something changes. I use to use a special app for sending HD pivtures and videos to Facebook that worked very well. Check the Play Store

I found a article saying the max upload size on mobile is 2 gigs while using a browser it is 20 gigs. Try uploading from a computer.

Well I uploaded to YouTube, came out perfect. Uploaded to Instagram, came out great. So it's definitely on Facebook's end... Thank you so much for all your help. Was getting worried, but guess this phone is perfect just as I figured lol. Thanks again bud

Your welcome. I understand about Facebook. Was never happy with the picture or video quality. I think they are being to cheap on server space to host them. I recommend uploading somewhere else and just sharing the link. Facebook's link support is pretty good anyways. Since you have a Pixel phone you have unlimited picture and video backup at full quality anyways.
