PANIC MODE!!!
sorry, just freaking out a little bit.
so i just had my bootloader unlocked last night (r800x) and have successfully flashed cm9 to it but for some reason my phone number is now 000-000-7589 and it refuses to activate. i guess my question is:
What The Actual $%&^?!?
how i fixes it?
ok it seems that my MIN has changed to the same number as well. is there a way to manually edit my MIN to match what my phone number is supposed to be? i checked in my build.prop but didnt see it anywhere and i have no idea where else to look.
beginning to think my phone is hosed...
Please wait 24hours before bumping, edit button is there for a reason, thanks.
What happens if you flash another rom

ok i think, ( and im sorry im such a noob, i cant help it ) that ive flashed the wrong baseband. i think i have a GSM baseband, assuming this is the case is there a way for me to get a cdma baseband that i need? i cant seem to find it anywhere.
<cries>
ive actually flashed it back to stock 2.3.3 and its the same issue. thats when i started digging and saw that my baseband looked funny. its:
7x30a-aaabqmazm-1290_10-03
and really, sorry about that panicky stuff, i dont mean to be a nuisance.
i am sure 7x30a-aaabqmazm-1290_10-03 is the correct baseband, because on my r800x I know i am using a slightly older baseband and my baseband is 7x30a-aaabqmazm-1290_10-01
how are you trying to activate it?
edit: i just finally got around to updating my baseband and can safely say all you need to do is activate you phone to get the correct number
try *22899 to activate the phone
ive tried every way i know,
#228 just fails.
##7764726 tells me my mobile number is invalid
i even called verizon to see if they could manually do it and even that didnt work. but now i try "##7764726" again and it let me edit my MINs trying to activate again now.
after i flashed the baseband both the MIN and phone number were wrong in a similar fashion and all i did was activate the phone by dailing *22899
ok i got the phone number right in my settings>status now, but it still wont activate. tried both *228 and *22899. just keeps telling me "problem with activation, your phone did not activate."
still same thing, one thing i didnt mention is that i have a grey triangle next to my reception bars. not the wifi signal lookin thingie but a sharp, grey triangle. during the activation process it blinks off for a second or two and then comes right back.
and now when i do *228 or*22899 it says "welcome to verizon wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and try again."
wtaf? i SO confused.
on the plus side i CAN do the ##7764726, i dont suppose you could share your settings under "User Activation"?
my CDMA Sys ID says "2004". and the next line underneath that is IMSI_11_12 and it says "99"
under SID/NID Pairs everything is "0"'s except for SID_1 which is "2004" and NID_1 which is "65535"
====================================================================================
VICTORY!!!
ok heres the deal. or at least how i understand what happened.
when i flashed my baseband it entered a bunch of wrong information in my activation fields. my Phone# was off, my MIN was off, my CDMA Sys ID was off, basically everything in the "user activation" was wrong except for the last one which was 99. that was right.
SO, my suggestion is that if you plan of unlocking your bootloader and flash anything on an r800x you should first call ##7764726 verification# 000000 and record all of the information under "User Activation" on the off chance that something goes sideways like it did for me. once i was able to do the ##7764726 if i had had that info to begin with i never would have had to call verizon in the first place much less have them walk me through what info should be in there.
anyway, thanks for the help, sorry i was panicky, and i leave you with:

Recently I have been having a problem with error 16. It happened of course when I activated on boost mobile. Then 3 days later it hit me 2 days in a row. And now a week later I am getting error 16 again. Did some research and couldn't find a fix. I know how to get it to go away I just need a way to make it stop repeating. Any info? Thanks

I'm on a boost prl. And a custome Rom.

Did you flash your phone yourself or did you pay to have someone do it for you? I know how to fix the error but lets figure out why it keeps happening also. The only time I've ever got that error is when I first activated the phone. Also, did you have to apply a fix each time it gave you the error or did it fix itself?

What prl are you using? Also would that work for me?

ERror 16 FIX is .......Just call 365

How do you fix i have recently been having the same issues. it comes and goes. ill make a call and sometimes get the error then i just hang up and try again then will usually fix itself
The only time this happens to me is when I turn on the donor phone, I don't even have to make a call with it, and then turn on the Evo.
This is the only time this ever happens to me.
In my experience error 16 happens when Boost initiates an OTA PRL update and when the flashed phone does not respond correctly (as a Boost phone would) it is flagged and error 16 results.
What you need to do to avoid it is to wait for an automatic PRL update after you activate the donor phone and only then flash the receptor phone.
Error 16 is a "Sprint" security Flag. It not related to Boost at all. What typically causes it is the radio still has some of the old MEID or ESN locations. When you flashed your new phone did you find the correct amount of locations in hex memory? I think 9 for MEID and 11 for ESN? Any less and the old info is still in hex memory and it will NOT authenticate. When you do your ##debug# I bet you'll see AN/AAA authentication = failed or so... check that out.
As far as clearing it, the only I know is to let the call go thru to Sprint. They will verify your Boost account and then reset your account. But if the phone is not fully flashed it will work but error out again later on.
hello i got this error and let teh call go through but instead of sending to a rep it just says please contact your customer support provider at the end -- it hap[pened before but it went to asprint rep who helped me.. any ideas?
I don't know if it's actually related, but I'm getting that error only when I change Network Name through Service Programming from Sprint to Boost Mobile. After i verified account by talking to rep that error never happened again to me. Bt I'm still on old baseband and a PRI for over a month without any issue (except for battery life). Will update PRI and baseband now to see what is gonna happen.
Does anyone know is it ok to update NV from this thread?
[ Radios ][ 9-5 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions
just stay on the line and talk to the rep. they know exactly whats wrong and will fix no ??? asked. just remember to tell them the donor phone when asked what kind of phone
I've had this problem also anytime I turn on the donor phone, it's a super easy fix and you don't have to talk to anyone. What you need to do is find a temporary MEID, there's a topic at http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ow-ESN-s-for-activations-here-(NO-QUESTIONS!) with tons of them (many are in use but look around) than (while leaving your donor phone off) go into your My Account on the boost website and change your MEID to the temporary MEID, wait a few minutes and change the MEID back to your correct MEID. This will fix the error number 16 problem. Keep in mind as well than anytime I've done this Ive left my Evo turned on, didn't have to restart or anything.
A second solution as the post above, you could wait on the line and tell them you're just trying to make a call, give them the description of your donor phone and they will call you back on another number and have you make a test call etc (make sure you do it from your Evo). They may or may not need to call you back though, this is just what I've always been told. The only solution I ever needed with this problem is the first one.

Cool thanks i will try your first method next time!!

Error 16 Fix!! Only if you have a 2nd working BM cellphone.
I believe that BM Reps are now aware of the main cause of Error 16; Consequently, they may some times be hard to convince....Anyways here is a work around:
You need a 2nd working BM cellphone ( let's call it replacement cellphone), that is not active on any other account:
PS: Your donor phone is not what I am talking about ( matter of fact you should take its battery out and hide it somewhere in your basement )
By Flashed phone I mean your (EVO, EPIC, NEXUS....)
1- Turn OFF Both cellphones (replacement and flashed).
2- Log into your BM account, got to upgrade device, and activate the replacement cellphone
3- Turn ON the replacement cellphone (ONLY) and let it sync with the network... Test it by calling 611, if working call someone you know to double check...
4- Turn OFF replacement cellphone
4- Log into your BM account, got to upgrade device, and activate the Flashed cellphone
3- Turn ON the Flashed cellphone (ONLY) and let it sync with the network... Test it by calling 611, if working, call someone you know to double check...
Hit thanks if I helped you...
It's not that complicated. All you need to do when using this method to fix error 16 is:
1) log into boost acct, go to update handset and enter extra meid, click OK twice until you get to the screen with msl, msid, and phone number at the bottom of screen.
2) now go to main acct info screen and then click on update handset again, enter donor meid, click OK twice and you are set. Just make sure donor is off first and really you do not even have to turn off the flashed phone. I have done this probably 100 times this way with no problems.
Kc3 explained this a few posts above us already, but you don't have to wait more than a second or two before changing back.

Stay on the phone when you get the error 16, at the end an operator should get on the line, just make sure you tell them about the donor phone if they ask any questions, dont tell them about the flashed phone at all. If they ask, tell them you just went to make a call and started getting this error.
Hope this helps!
Hey everyone i need your help.
so i bought an htc evo 4g from craigslist already flashed to boost mobile the phone worked fine on the guy who i bought it from he gave me his boostmobile account info to transfer his phone to my acc. so i got home with the phone i transfered his account info to my boost account and now i cant get calls or anything no interenet nothing!! i look at the phone identity and it still has his number under it i called boost and they walked me through a procedure even did ##(some numbers)# to bring up a screen to put in my new number i did tht ut still nothing. it shows his number still in the phone identity im lost please help i spent 170$ and i want my phone to work some1 help me
do you know your Evo's MSL or SPC? If so, try pushing ##123456# (123456 should be your MSL) then on the pop up menu that comes up select "Edit Mode" then you need to change your MDN to your new number and you need to change the MSID to the new one too. If you already talked to Boost then hopefully you wrote these 2 numbers down. If not, call them again and tell them you switched numbers/phones and need to re-enter that info. Just tell them you need the new MDN and MSID so you do not have to sit and have them try and walk you through steps to that are not for the Evo. DO NOT tell them it is an Evo obviously. If you do not know your Evo's MSL then it is pretty easy to get through CDMA WS, pm me and I can help you with that part if necessary. Hope this helps, if you need anything else feel free to ask!
*If I have helped, please take a second to hit my thank you button*
thanks man now i need help with the internet its not working and i have no idea wat to do
Push ##33284# then select EVDO Engineering. Scroll all the way to the bottom an tell me what it says next to AN/AAA
Did you try going to settings, system updates, update profile yet? Also it can take up to 48 hours for everything to work IF it says 1- authenticated after AN/AAA
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
it says to 2=failed authentication
ive also tried up dating profile it would let me
If it says authentication failed then your AAA and HA keys are wrong. Did you get the donor phone from the guy you bought the Evo from???? If you did then it will be pretty simple to pull the correct AAA and HA keys from it.
If you do not have the donor, you might try ##786#, then hit menu then hit reset. Be warned, it will reset everything back to factory so make sure you back up anything worth saving first. When the phone resets itself, it will try to perform an OTA activation. I am wanting to say it should provision the AAA keys on its own after that (If I am wrong on this part, please feel free to step in and correct me guys)
what do i need to save to be backed up and i dont have doner phone
Dont think you can do that, tell you what I did. I bought an Evo also off ebay fixed the glass and found someone to flash it to boost. after 2 months with phone the 3g went out, tried to get help from flasher but no go, I found a guide myself and started testing, first flash success, so wanted to reflash my phone and only way to get it done was to buy a donor phone, attach it to your boost account, hook it up pull the info, reflash EVO and all done. You cant just take a phone and move it to your account, wont work.
You should have just left it the way it was, now you'll need to get a donor phone and start over, I did and doing fine now.
If you need help let me know.
Yep, I agree. If you do not have the donor, I would suggest buying a new one. Even if you do manage to fix data this time, you will have more problems later. The fact that you did not get the donor might mean the Guy is activating more than one evo with it and that means you might start getting the error 16 in the future. I have always given the donor back to the person I flashed for because I do not need it and more importantly I have no legitimate reason for keeping it.

Would this be the same steps if i call Boost and change my old number, im giving my EVO to my daughter but she doesnt want my number.
It will be the same steps as to changing the numbers in the setting once i enter the MLS???
Hello everyone.
I am a noob so please be gentle Ok here goes. I believe i have pretty much got my phone flashed. Meid and esn all took spc also took, By took I mean the Evo has the info from my donor now. so on the last step where I reboot it said it should do a hands free update, but when it tries it keeps saying unable to connect to network. So I tried just for the heck of it to dial 611, and see if I could get boost care. All I got was the same message I got before I began the flash. I assume it is a sprint error. something about error code 16 . Also I noticed when I was checking the phones meid ect that under phone number there is justt Zeros with 24 at the end I believe. So if anyone has any info on what I should do next thank you in advance.

Is your wifi on? If so, turn it off and reboot. I had this same problem when switching my EVO over to Ting. The wifi conflicts with the radio trying to switch carriers.

Yeah the wifi is off, but thanks for trying. I called boost and gave them the bit about having issues, and they said they reset system, but who knows. If I try to wait after the code when I try calling out it just disconnects me. Right now I deactivated the donor, and will reactivate it when I get a answer that may work.

As long as you are positive MEId is correct you should be able to do a ##786# reset, changing SPC/MSL to match donor is not needed btw. If you are still not able to do an OTA activation after ##786# , then you can always manually enter the needed info to make voice and text work. Just press ##123456# (123456 is your MSL) select edit or whatever and then in first pop up enter your phone number and in second pop up enter your MSID. Then hit ok and phone should reboot and voice and text should work then, if not let me know and I will help you get it up and running.
Hope this helps...

Well if you MEID is still the same as the incog, no big deal, just call boost and tell them you were having issues with data on your incog and you reset the phone now you lost all your settings and need to reactivate. They will reactivate/reprogram via ##MSL#, reboot then update your PRL/Profile and you should be good to go.
Dont be afraid to call boost this is a easy fix.
thanks for all the info guys! I'm gonna try the boost thing. To clarify, my phone # and MIN are now 000000xxxx and 000000xxxx. The numbers don't relate to anything I can think of that's why I put xxxx instead of the #'s. I used cdma workshop to put my correct info for these. I'm worried about the fact that HDR AN Long password is missing when I read with DFS. I would re write it but it's the free version and the settings won't stick no matter what I do! Would the $50 paid version make them stick? I don't have the extra cash (car in the shop) @ the moment but it would be nice to know. I would hate to spend $50 and not get anything different. I've been reading for 2 days on how to do that via some other program but it's not going well. PST errors for me and I saw something about the prl being the problem and use DFS to change it. IDK how to do that exactly so I'm not gonna risk bricking this $600, marble white, sweetheart without a clear understanding how to do it and how to get the settings to stick with DFS or another program. I see comments that are very vague telling you how to do it and have purchased a manual but with DFS not sticking and QPST producing errors on the 10+ downloads I've tried I'm afraid I'm lost. If someone can tell me how to get QPST to work I would be fine!
After I give the "CALL BOOST" a try I'll report back. One things for sure, I'm kicking myself in the ass for not backing up my EFS. Deeerdider :silly:

This is nuts. lol. I went to the boost site and logged in to my account (by clicking "MY ACCOUNT". Then I clicked on update hadset (like I was changing phones) I coppied and paisted the MEID/ESN that is given for the incognito (yes, this stuck in my phone under settings/about device/Status). Then I activated the same phone again! My service bar showed the no service symbol and I rebooted my phone. Hands free activation failed. I tried to make a call and got the same old "your device is not activated" message and figured it didn't work. I put the phone on airplain mode and started installing my drivers and qpst and such on a new fresh install of windows black. 15 minutes or so passed and I took it off airplain mode and PING got a message from boost giving my account info. I dialed ##000000## and clicked edit. I viewed and checked and my phone # and MSID. It showed them correct.I backed out and hit done. the phone rebooted. Then I got a message that profile couldn't be updated and then it updated the prl and worked! I then tried to make a call and I got the Boost message "not enough money in this account to make the call" NEVER have I been so happy to hear those words!!! It's been about 45 minutes now and I still have no data. Now I will root and backup all my EFS and anything else I can. Will report back when I get data fixed!!!
Now this is my first time flashing a 4G Phone with no easy over the air activation.
My texting is working 100% but the problem is my calling every once in awhile itll let me make a call but everytime before i hit call on a number it gives me a domestic roaming pop up and 75% of the time it tells me that i need to re-enter the 10 digit number without *67 or anything but i don't put *67 i have a feeling it has something to do with my PRL maybe but im not 100% sure could someone help me?
