Random reboots? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, I'm new to this phone but not new to the forums, I googled it and searched but couldn't find anything like to what I'm running in to. If I missed it sorry.
I received my gsm nexus last Wednesday and ran stock jb for a day then had to root and try some custom Roms. Coming from the tmo sgs2, the pure quantity of Roms almost overwhelmed me. I decided on minco to start with. I had a couple random reboots, not doing anything crazy with it, No different kernels or baseband or anything. No damage to it either. I tried cm10, xenon and aokp, same thing with all of them. With every new flash I always wiped everything so that couldn't be it either. Is this a known issue or something that I'm just going to have to live with?

Hello. I have the same problem using Revolution HD ROM atm. Coming from HTC Desire I remember that the first 6 months were full of random reboots no matter the ROM. But after that they disappered, not magically but probably due to software fixes. I guess that's the same thing with GNex. Atm I have a reboot once or twice a day. It's pretty annoying cause I have lost some calls due to that. But I'm not sure how to fix it. I guess I'll just wait.
p.s. Someone in XDA said that random reboots might be the result of problematic apps. Suggesting that one of our apps is malfuctioning which kinda makes sense since random reboots seems to be a problem of very few people.

I'm having the same problems, but I'm curious how we pinpoint which app it could be. I'm currently on CM10 with Franco's kernel, and but it's also happened on BAMF too.

GSN Highest Up time...stable as ever

I just receive my extended battery today but wanted to show everyone my up time before I shut the phone off. Phone is just as stable as the 1st second of up time. Minimal apps....stock 4.0.2 ota, unrooted and locked bootloader.
Very happy with it and anyone who has wake locks and sod needs to remove some apps that aren't compatible.

just goes to show you how hardened the android kernel and frameworks really are. on my nexus one even i would routinely go 500 hours and still running as if it were just rebooted. my galaxy nexus is just as stable!
My up time rarely gets past 2 or 3 days! (It's hard for me not to flash a new ROM or kernel )
I'm curious if this would work with a ROM like Bugless Beast if I were to relock the bootloader after? I would go back to complete stock for the stability and battery life, but I really like the default wireless tether options from the AOSP build.
Quick side-note: I always noticed with my Nexus S that when I used it completely stock, I got better battery life than any ROM I used, including if I kept it stock and just rooted it. Not really sure why that is, but I imagine the same applies to the Galaxy Nexus. My girlfriend has hers completely stock and gets better battery life than I do all the time.
Cool serial number you got there...

720 hours and counting so far...hasn't rebooted once since I bought it!
I had my first reboot today. I was at the park with my girlfriend and dogs and she asked to take pictures of them so I handed her my phone and it unlocked but froze on the home screen. Lol, I told her it wasn't frozen and she probably did something wrong so when I grabbed it, it was on the home screen and went to the Google logo. Womp womp

I've tried about 3 different custom ROMs and stock, I think I've had a single reboot. Was it stock? I can't recall. I wouldn't exactly call it a crisis.
Ugh, I wish I could challenge those uptime scores! My Nexus has only crashed once since I got it and it was due to my own fault with charging with low voltage while using at the same time.
I just change SIM cards every weekend or every other weekend due to my trips to my girlfriend which requires a reboot. But yes, I love stability of Android!

Yes. I have a GSM version of the GNEX here in Canada and am running s custom 4.0.3 ROM and my signal does this ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!
I have flashed several radios and none fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is either going back to the STOCK 4.0.1 ROM that came with my device or to flash the Android Revolution HD ROM which is based on 4.0.2. On that ROM I dont lose signal.
I am getting quite frustrated about this issue too. I have posted many time in various threads looking for answers and NO ONE seems to have any idea about this which I find weird as I have seen countless others with the same issues as I describe.
I had similar issues with my N1, and it turned out to be related to the older SIM card I had. You may want to consider a new SIM...

Thanks for the reply. I have a new thread open to try and generalize these issues more clearly. Please see here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487239
Also... I have 2 different SIM cards from my provider and one is a bit old (but works just fine in my SGSII) and one is new with a different number and this happens with BOTH SIM cards.
Again, please see the thread I have linked here for more info.

[Q] So, um...when you flash a new rom are you still on Sprint?

Seems like a dumb question I know, but I couldn't find anywhere to confirm that. I mean, I figure after rooting, all is still good. But if I flash a new rom, say CM7 or something, is that still the case? Or do I have to do something special to get back on, etc?
huh? Flashing a rom has nothing to do with the carrier.

Yes. You are still on Sprint.

I would recommend you DON'T flash a ROM. If you flash a new ROM, your phone will randomly get signals from verizon and at&t, and then your phone transforms into an iphone. Its a nasty site. Just stick with your current setup.

You know, as I read through different threads that talk about manual activation or changing carriers, it is NOT apparent that my carrier information and activation remain intact if I flash a new rom. As a matter of fact, if you step back for a second, it would almost seem a bit counter intuitive that such a large change to the phone would not affect that, especially given some of the other conversation here.
All my experience in rooting is with the nook, which doesn't have this aspect to consider so I figured I'd ask and confirm before screwing with the phone. So thanks for answering.
What you might have read is about either people force roaming on Verizon or people who have their phone already flashed to an alternate carrier. It is a very difficult process to take an inactive phone and flash to another carrier. Those settings are not touched by ROMs neither is the modem (baseband) of your phone. You must have misread and misunderstood many things.

Don't mind the signal. I usually use roam control to force roam when I'm at work but did this for demo purporses.

Thanks for those who answered. I had read just enough to want to be sure before I did anything, but suspected that it would be firm.
Thanks for confirming.

Ordered a GSM Galaxy Nexus...now what?

I've been looking through the forums and to be honest the amount of options are kind of overwhelming. I'm looking for a ROM/Kernel combo to give me the best/most stable battery and performance combination. I don't want all day battery at the cost of having to underclock everything and killing every sync option I have, but I want no sacrifice in performance either. What are my options? Should I play it safe and go with the new CM9 or stick with vanilla ICS and just get a different kernel?
Oh and since this is my first unlocked phone, what APN should I be using? I'll be in New England mostly on AT&T if that matters at all. And will there be anything else I need to do once I get the phone on day 1? I just wanna make sure I'm prepared and good to go from the beginning.
I'd go with either CM9 RC1 or Black Ice/Kangorade. Franco's kernels work well with these ROMs.
Easiest route, unlock the bootloader, use the GenNex toolkit to push the recovery of your choice. Flash the ROM as directed, make mama proud.
Experiment. Mix and match and find the best match for your. With Android there is a lot of customization you can do.
Stay with stock first, and feel your way around. Once you get your sea legs then you can mess around. The Gnex is 90% brick proof if you know what you're doing. Just make sure that you unlock your bootloader first before you sync your Google account because unlocking wipes data for most phones.
APN settings usually populate when you stick your sim in. No need to enter it manually
AOKP has the most features, CM9 nightlies are pretty rad, and Bigxie's Jelly Bean is super slick. For kernels I've tried them all and bought everyone's apps but I like Trinity or LeanKernel. Been using Trinity for the last month or two exclusively, super happy. The world is your oyster with Maguro.
It boils down to what do YOU like from each ROM and which one stands out as best for you obviously. The great thing is just to try them all out. Lots are real good IMO. Don't forget to purchase Titanium Backup

I was previously using AOKP ROM + Franco Kernel (latest milestone releases). I recently switched to Bigxie's JB ROM and I'm planning to try it out for a few days.
I would suggest to just try and experiment with the combination of custom ROMs and kernels. Each custom ROM and kernel provides different experiences.

Thanks guys, I've done some flashing before back with my Evo I just left for a while when almost no ICS Rom was stable enough to be a daily driver. I'm looking mainly for advantages between Cyan vs AOKP vs anybody else out there really. Like who they're mainly for and whatnot. I appreciate the feedback tho.

[APP/MOD] Google Now fully ported/working for ICS ;)

**I take no credit for this, nor am I in any way affiliated with its development**
I wanted to post this here for anyone out there who did not know this was available. Also for anyone like me who wanted to enjoy Google Now, but does not currently want to run Jellybean at this time. I installed this yesterday and it has been working flawlessly on my GNex running AOKP M6!

(I am running Mikeyxda's Version 6 Offline/Online)
PS dont be worried, I know it looks a little naked. I just havn't gotten to setting up any cards, I've mainly been toying around with the voice search and learning the commands. But the cards are fully funtional, they were there after I installed the app, but I deleted them.
That is great and all but why on earth would you not be running JB right now? I can see other devices excited about this but we can have the whole package!

not sure how to answer this without sounding rude but...its my phone, i run what i want. sorry, not sure how else to word it.
if someone had a gun to my head and forced me to give an explanation other than that, it would be that I love AOKP, and i want to wait until there is an AOKP JB release.
ive never been one to run and grab the newest thing the second it hits the shelf (no pun intended). id rather sit back and wait until everything i want in a rom is available and stable. ive tried jellybean, i flashed it, explored it, and was not 100% satisfied with what it had to offer thus far, so i flashed back to aokp with which i am 100% satisfied. i certainly experiment with new things when they come out, but I love my phone and I will not sacrafice my personal experience just to be able to say that i have the newest thing. instead, i will hold strong, and monitor the new thing until im ready to run it on a daily basis.
hey, you asked

I dont run JB because AOKP Milestone 6 runs better/smoother than JB and has more tweaks implemented.
