GSN Highest Up time...stable as ever - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just receive my extended battery today but wanted to show everyone my up time before I shut the phone off. Phone is just as stable as the 1st second of up time. Minimal apps....stock 4.0.2 ota, unrooted and locked bootloader.
Very happy with it and anyone who has wake locks and sod needs to remove some apps that aren't compatible.

My up time is currently at 820 hours!

just goes to show you how hardened the android kernel and frameworks really are. on my nexus one even i would routinely go 500 hours and still running as if it were just rebooted. my galaxy nexus is just as stable!

My up time rarely gets past 2 or 3 days! (It's hard for me not to flash a new ROM or kernel )

I'm curious if this would work with a ROM like Bugless Beast if I were to relock the bootloader after? I would go back to complete stock for the stability and battery life, but I really like the default wireless tether options from the AOSP build.
Quick side-note: I always noticed with my Nexus S that when I used it completely stock, I got better battery life than any ROM I used, including if I kept it stock and just rooted it. Not really sure why that is, but I imagine the same applies to the Galaxy Nexus. My girlfriend has hers completely stock and gets better battery life than I do all the time.

Cool serial number you got there...

720 hours and counting so far...hasn't rebooted once since I bought it!

I had my first reboot today. I was at the park with my girlfriend and dogs and she asked to take pictures of them so I handed her my phone and it unlocked but froze on the home screen. Lol, I told her it wasn't frozen and she probably did something wrong so when I grabbed it, it was on the home screen and went to the Google logo. Womp womp

I've tried about 3 different custom ROMs and stock, I think I've had a single reboot. Was it stock? I can't recall. I wouldn't exactly call it a crisis.

Ugh, I wish I could challenge those uptime scores! My Nexus has only crashed once since I got it and it was due to my own fault with charging with low voltage while using at the same time.
I just change SIM cards every weekend or every other weekend due to my trips to my girlfriend which requires a reboot. But yes, I love stability of Android!

[Q] Battery issue?

Here's a screenie from my battery screen, I know the battery is a common problem, but when I see shots from others battery screen their screen and OS percentages seem much lower. My screens set at about 20-30%. Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or any suggested apps/roms you have. Rooted CDMA.

Te longer you have the screen ON and are using the device then the more power it uses over a period of time
Tap on the screen % to see your screen on time. This device currently sucks a lot of power through the high pixel display. You can switch to manually adjusting seen brightness to save some battery.

Looks fine to me. My android os is usually around 15% or so depending on how much I use the phone and I get great battery life.

@rbiter I am curious how long has your Galaxy Nexus been running before it turns off? I have gotten about 8.5-9 hours the one time i ran mine all the way down. That is with auto brightness on and lots of browsing and no games and some calls.
Frankly I have been disappointed with the battery performance so far. I love the phone of course, but just wished they would come out with replacement stock batteries so I can go as long
as i need, without having to swap out the backs etc.

You could always just use the extended battery w/ the extended battery back cover. That cover works also fits pretty well with the stock battery.

[Q] Sleep of Death with Stock

So I read about other people having this problem with custom ROMs or rooted phones but I am on unrooted stock after OTA. I thought was one of the 60 or whatever apps I bought during the 10 cent promotion but I uninstalled them all and I still had the problem. It's not frequent but it's happened 3 times in the last couple of weeks. It's mildly annoying to have to pull the battery but the part that I can't live with is that whenever it this happens, my battery drains like crazy. The battery usage drops off a cliff and I caught this one after no more than 5 minutes. Any thoughts on this? I don't have an SD card so it's not that. Thanks!

to find the rogue app use betterbatterystats and cpu spy. not sure if they superuser. also badass battery works too.
Mine did this the other night on Calk's ROM. Something got stuck keeping the phone awake causing that cliff like drop off.
Happened to me on stock once, installed some game but didn't play it so I don't think that was the reason. It was either the default browser or the contact list.
Thanks for the replies. I figured it was an app but wanted to be sure before I started deleting things. I was just worried that this might be something to do with hardware or something.
I have same problem with different roms and i don't know what to do...

I had the same problem I figured out it was my wifi being turned on all the time. I have always heard leaving your wifi on when it's availible was supposed to save battery but I checked in better battery stats and saw there was almost 7000 wakelocks in a 5 hour period. I turned wifi off problem solved I only turn it on when I need to.
It is happend even wifi is off.

Your battery might be going bad... take it out and spin it on a flat surface if it spins freely the battery is most likely done.

Less battery life on non yakju builds?!

Hey guys,
so yesterday i FINALLY flashed the 4.0.2 yakju factory image because i was just sick and tired of waiting for updates (was on yakjuxw 4.0.2 before).
I flashed the .2 instead of the .4 because i wanted to see if i actually do receive updates faster but that has nothing to do with this thread (didnt get .4 OTA yet btw).
So what i noticed with the stock yakju build is that i just get like half an hour mor battery life than on the yajuxw build.
On yakjuxw i got like max 3 hours screen on time if i was lucky.
Now i got more than 3,5 hours screen on time with actually playing much angry birds bubble shoot etc., browsing and xda app.
If yakju really gets more battery life that would be one more major reason to go for it if you're on yakjuxw!
Here are the screenshots on the yakju build (everything stock), sorry i dont have screenshots of the yakjuxw build...

try 4.0.4 . with that one I've got around 4:25 hours of screen on time!
Would be cool... but it seems like i just won't get the OTA
Why don't you just flash a factory image from the Google site. They already released the factory image of 4.0.4 there.

[Q] Best rom for battery life?

Please my phone litterally died in 3 hours from full charge with 1hour screen on time
Running FINAL SOurcery and Faux 29u kernel underclocked at 1000 mhz with intelli demand
First things first, don't ask "best" type questions on xda. Everybody has different experiences.:good:
That being said, I am personally always running the latest AOSPA (Paranoid Android) and latest AK kernel. Great ROM, and absolutely perfect kernel. I usually get around 3 hours on screen time with that combo.
Of course, you have to remember that there are many many factors that impact battery life. For example, if you have data turned on (either 3g or 4g), gps on, or brightness high, your battery will suffer. Search the forums for various ways to improve battery life.
I always have the best results running stock for battery life.

Maybe you should look into purchasing a new battery.

^^^This. If you are having that crappy of battery life, its most likely the battery itself. No ROM or kernel is going to help you.
Mine too and i have baked +Franco.

Buy extended, cost me 5$ with case! XD
This is heavy use (3G only, no WiFi) also I'm with wind so having a crappy network signal kills it even more, yours will most likely look better.
Running latest CM 10.1 nightly and Franco kernel r378

[Q] Battery life poor after 4.3 update

On my Galaxy Nexus was 4.2.2 takju version and at rhe time was locked and non rooted.
I have downloaded Google factory image for it. Then I decided to unlock boot loader since I was going to flash factory image.
Everything went well. No trouble at all.
So now I am on unlocked bootloader and still rooted.
But now battery performance seems to be poor (much worse then before).
Any ideas?
Any solutions?

How is that poor battery? If anything that's considered good, especially on a 1750mah battery, what did you expect?

Used to be better on 4.2.2.
Look at the break on blue line which indicate WiFi was off in that period.

Yes, and your screen shows 57% which indicates it clocked almost past 2hrs+ onscreen time. Users need to understand 4.2.2 was a broken firmware there's nothing good about it, which is why the update was skipped for 80% of the OEM smartphones and directly onward to 4.3
Custom kernel's may solve this problem for you but you need to consider the technical aspects and coding that went into this, smooth experience comes at the expense of something, also custom kernels stick to a min freq of 384, stock kernel runs at 500+ and 1026 on the N4. Considerably for mpdecision that handles all the tasks, that's considered good.
Also, how is this general? This should be in the Q&A section.

I thought that I'd mention that 4.3 also dropped the min. frequency on the Galaxy Nexus to 250, IIRC.
