[Q] htc one v camera quality issue - HTC One V

I am using HTC one v since one month..I have noticed that size of the pics with a 5 megapix camera in round 800kb..even my n73 has similar size of pics with just a 3.2 megapix camera..so in fact the file size should b larger with a 5 mp cam of htc one v...I think that is the main cause of low quality pics...pics comes to b of poor quality when zoomed even a little except the closeup shots...and another isuue is with flash,it just makes pics so bad and white in dark..full of white noise...i hate taking pics with flash...even my nokia n73 does a far better job than htc one v..friends i just want to know what can i do to improve the camera of my htc one v..and how to take better pics and how to increase file size with quality of pics especially in dark with flash on...

Mega pixels have got nothing to do with file size its all about resolutions of the picture you take
To improve your camera quality try searching for some cam mode in one v android development section

Its because the camera quality is compressed.

any solution guys...plzzzzz helppp

There is a camera mod for the One X, which saves images and video uncompressed. But it has not been ported to the One V, afaik.

Yes, they have. The higher the resolution of a raster image, the more memory it takes to store it. 32.000.000 pixels are less than 800.000.000 pixels. This incredibly low file size is being achieved by extreme compression, which brings in a lot of artifacts.

Have we gotten any kind of camera test shots yet?

Still looking for some comparison photos of the NG camera. The 5 MP camera is a bit offputting, but for years the iPhone camera was running at less MP and always seemed to have a better sensor and produce better pictures, i'm hoping that's the case right now. The camera and the size are really my two biggest concerns with the device right now.....
Droid life found some pictures from it back in October

Something like that for example?
Test Pictures
They were made with a sample after the release show. Don't know if they are equal to the final product or not.
Engadget and Thisismynext did test shots between GN and the iPhone4S.
Not gonna be a lot of in-depth tests until review units go out.
The post about how megapixels don't mean crap in terms of picture quality needs to be made a sticky on this forum. I'm tired of it coming up. Take a Nikon dedicated camera that taps out at 5MP and compare it to a phone at 8MP and see which looks better.
If you have Google+ account, find Tim Bray and follow him.
He is one of the Android developer.
And he is testing the GN camera right now during his trip, posted in his Google+.
I saw the photos are amazing!

You're right the nonshaky ones look good. I'm not stunned but I would say it's really solid work for a phone camera.
I'm not impressed. The night shot looked sharp for a night photo but the rest... no visible improvement compared to my Galaxy S. So much for sacrificing MP for quality.

+1 I'm actually excited to see what this camera can do. The 5 MP cam on this phone will probably blow the mytouch4g slides 8 MP away. Bottom line, galaxy nexus Is going to be one badass phone. Period.

Not sure what you're seeing. None of those pictures are any better than what my Fascinate takes. They should have went ahead and used the GSII camera. Seems much better than this one.

HTC One X Camera Test Shots!

In case you wondering what kind of picture quality the HTC One X and One S were capable of spitting out, we have a few images here that show off exactly what their new ImageSense technology is all about.
HTC, who has long been known for providing one of the lesser quality cameras on the market, made a pretty big deal about their new camera tech equipping their flagships with with f/2.o aperture/28mm lenses and they even going as far as giving their devices their own dedicated processor for snapping pics, dubbed “ImageChip.” In theory, ImageChip increases image quality while providing super quick autofocus and taking equally fast snapshots on the fly. The LED even features 5 levels of brightness which should eliminate those creepy washed out photos you take in dimly lit areas.

It should be mentioned explicitly that those pictures are from HTC and do not come from unbiased sources. I'm still waiting on actual test shots.

These are actual pics taken by the HTC one series, and HTC recently posted them to their official page on the facebook:

yes true but we have no idea of the settings used while taking the shots, and while nice, hoping for some testers to post some more real world shots!!
yes HTC said they gave the One X/S to some local photographers in Barcelona and they took these
Looks like a bunch of post processed shots to me, the color contrasts are way over the top.
Still nice pics regardless.
What's the ppi of the pictures the One X can take?
Third pic from top
guy in the top right
hands yellow?!?! O__o
Camera technology must be in early stage lol
I wonder if the camera will suffer from blurry shots due to the very fast photo capture time? ie similar to galaxy nexus zero shutter lag = blurry photos

That's a good concern. I'm going to give HTC the benefit of the doubt on this one, based on the terrific camera specs and dedicated imaging chip, but who knows...
Why in the 1st pic there is some Violet-colour on the fish?
Hope that the Audio Beast go with One X
I only hope so that are really photos from one X becouse HTC has horrible camera with pink spot on the screen. My first HTC HD2 and now Desire Z have this
Very nice, it should look like this pictures! I'm fascinated.
In the HTC's facebook page for Spain they have a lot more pictures. Can't post external links, so go check it yourself.
It's actually the HTC France page and I don't know why they would post them to that page and not their USA page...weird. While I enjoy those shots, I wanna see how the camera shoots in Auto mode. Most of those pictures were shot using a filter or edited with some sort of app. Would like to see standard shots...lets go HTC!!

Maybe both man... i saw them in the spanish page. And btw the shots were taken in Barcelona during the MWC, so it makes sense.
ohh I couldn't even find their FB spain page, only France. Either way a lot of those pictures have been floating around for a while, but it was nice to see a few more. I guess we will see what happens when the tech sites get their review units
Hopefully you will be able to save photos in RAW format for editing on a pc or at least be able to adjust the jpeg compression .
What's up with the noise/compression in all these pics? Noticeable on blue skies and such.
any nighttime shots.
these daytime shots look great.

Camera Shootout vs Iphone 4s

Not off to a good start for the one x. Kind of disappointing from my eyes, except for the HDR photo.

sharpness along with edge noise can be turned off by sharpness -2
camera samples looks bigger on the iPhone this is because the stupid tester didn't turn off widescreen aspect in the settings menu and hence the One X image turned out less than full 8MPixels
seems a more detailed is resolved in darkness and black thanks to f2.0, it takes a second to burn/contrast these images from the HTC gallery effects menu!
the backlight photo of the girl is excellent
the One X is resolving more details @ full scale crops too
I am actually surprised how close they look! is this the same sensor source? sony?
i see the One X a clear winner, thanks to more detail in darkness, shutter speed and backlight HDR, image contrast is for you to adjust from the camera app or the gallery!
The article concludes
"Overall, whether the One X or the iPhone 4S has a better camera boils down to individual preferences. The One X delivers sharper images at the expense of some noise, while the iPhone 4S delivers better colors and noise control.
Personally, the fast shutter speed and sharper images of the One X feel like the better option."

banging my head to the table
iPhone has no settings while HTC gives you the choice...this is the settings menu from a much older device, new one has exposure added plus the gallery allows you to adjust contrast including an auto mode
i guess we should all nag so that in their next phone they remove this functionality and lock down the camera app into three buttons like the iphone: video, still, HDR
in fact why don't we just all go and buy iPhones!
look at the sackboy head and the white/black photo in the background and the painting and the left side of the image, how much detail is resolved in dark areas! thats what f2.0 is all about, more dynamic range!
guys mark my words, this is the same Sony Exmor sensor on the iPhone 4s, f2.0 variant + HTC Imagechip, the images are absurdly close

ok, i'llplay. i want to compare my nitro hd to my canon 5d mark II
on the left is a picture i recently took with my mark II (my mark IIIs are arriving next month!!;-))
on the right is a picture of that picture i just drunk snapped in a dark room , blur and all
godd nite
Yo dawg I heard you like pictures,
So i took a picture then put it on my monitor, then took another picture of the picture.
Also, if your job is taking photos of babes all day, WAY TO GO MAN, LIVING THE DREAM
wow never noticed the colors were that off either. i mean, quality wise, its just about the same but the colors is what drives the eyes to perceive better quality. interesting. its cool thought. i dont take too many pictures, but good to know. i have about a year left with the phone. i can survive
This is a picture taken with the ProCapture camera app while on ICS. Pretty darn good app.
I use ICS Camera(App), it takes pretty good picture.
The one x photos looks crisp , but its the one x that made the pink hat red not the nitro.

I believe a little tweak on the white balance and exposure will give you better pics with correct colors.
Does an app like procapture change anything with the camera/encoding quality? Or does it just give you more options to tweak?
hah! i completely forgot i hit this thread, where'd the op go?

camera performance in cm10

i heard somebody say, in cm10 roms, the imagesense chip cant be used because it needs a part of sense to make it work
so any1 of u guys on cm10 can take a picture sample for me on cm10 or tell me whether it's as good as sense ?

imagesense is BS imo, because every camera sensor needs a chip to work, they only named it diferently so it would attract costumers. If imagesense wouldn't work on CM1O - you camera app would be useless )

The sense camera is the only rom camera that can control the f2.0 lens. All other cameras over expose.

CM10 camera app is awful, no burst, rubbish panorama.
Another thing with the cm10 camera shots is the average file size is more than the sense camera.
With some pics being 4mb and some 3.5mb on 8mp. The sense camera shots had file sizes around a average of 1.9 or something.

Thats actually a positive for CM10 there. As the Sense camera has a bad (to high) conversion and you loose detail etc.

not always, but in this special case does, as the compression of the sense camera is too high. There are few threads about it and I think even a mod one or two.
