its because of pre-installed apps in the rom,
use a2sd to save internal memory

well....its depends on how your system would be. most of internal memory usage is for dalvik cache stuff. if you're using an odexed custom rom like mine you can get only 2-5 mb on fresh installment. most custom rom here are full deodexed rom. it will consume 30-70 mb for dalvik cache stuff.

[Q] where is my memory???

Can ANYONE tell me why i supposed to have 147 mb of usable memory but i only installed like 28 meg of apps total and i dont have any memory left?
could be confusing storage space with ram? have you confirmed under storage-internal storage that you have no more memory available? are you using the stock rom?
im having this exact same issue with my internal storage. no apps installed and i only have 30mb or so on internal using 3rd sense... been trying for 2 days to get data2ext to work with no luck.
Which rom are you on?
This phone only has that much for app storage. A huge disappointment.
If you have root and a custom ROM, just do MTD partitions or apps2ext if you have an ext partition.

Desire a2sd queries. Suggestions ?

Hi guyz. I am a newbie to this desire community. During last week i tried as many roms as possible. I made a ext 4 partition of about 1GB. When i tried sense based Aurora rom, i noticed 900 mb of internal memory available(guess its counting ext partition as internal memory). When i tried some other roms i noticed 180mb of memory(a2sd). Why is that?
So if i use a2sd and install 40 apps what would be my internel memory? Will it be sufficient? I raised this query because before i try few other roms i should be clear which is the suitable one.
Thanks

I have a 1GB ext4 partition with some 60 apps installed. Usually I have around 4-600MB on ext partition and 70-100MB on internal memory free, depending on the ROM I use. Hope that helps.

The Aurora-ROM used a technology called DATA2SD / DATA2EXT (different names, but they work the same way)
A2SD: All apps you install will be automatically to EXT-partition (internal memory still decreases and is still 150 MB).
A2SD+: Functions plus the moving of dalvik-cache to EXT-partition
DATA2SD / DATA2EXT: The whole internal memory (/data-partition) will be moved to EXT-partition and the size of the EXT-partition is from now on the "new" internal memory.
How much internal memory you have free depends on the apps you install.

Low on storage

Been using the device normally...but I noticed that the storage got down to 19 mb today eve...removed few apps from the internal storage and now it is 31 mb...what to do...there ll be atleast 110 mb right?
now there are only 5 apps in internal storage...pls help me to get back to my original state.

Must be cache accumulation. Install Apps 2 SD or Cachemate (if you are rooted) to clear cache. Or you could do it in recovery by selecting Wipe Cache. If you are rooted, install A2SD if your ROM is compatible. You can move all apps to SD using A2SD and you'l have more or less 185 MB free in your Internal Memory. Try Bass ROM.
well...I thought cache won't use that much memory. nevertheless, thats normal if you're using a custom deodexed rom. as raolemo said, you may install kernel with a2sd support (like the one in bass). but, if you don't want to use other rom nor install new kernel, using link2sd will help you maintain your internal memory.

[Q] Taskmanager only shows 380 MB ...

If I look to the specs it says: 512 MB RAM. But the Taskmanager shows only 246 MB Used + 119 MB free = 365 MB
What is the reason?
The balance is used for the cached background process

Running apps - press home button - show cached processes = there lies the rest of the ram

A little bit different for One V:
Running apps - press Menu - show cached processes = there lies the rest of the ram

yeah. my mistake. it's the same here.
Still I don't understand it ...
If I go in Running Apps, I can see at the buttom 230 MB used, 155 MB free. And it shows me how much is used by the running apps and how much by cached processes. But in every aspect I cant see 512 MB. It's only 364 MB.
I can't understand it. Where are the missed 148 MB?
What about internal storage ?
In phone specifications says: Storage 4 GB Total / up to 10 GB...but in Settings > Storage, says: Total space 0.94 GB (Apps 113 MB; Availabile 847 MB).
Regards !

Dude!
230 + 155 + THE CACHED PROCESSES WHICH ARE 127 MB = 512 MB!
The memory isn't a fixed allocation. So it is cycling at every second.
You HAVE 512 MB. You don't have a weird phone, replica, bad phone. It doesn't need any reparation.
You surely need to have, an Einstein brain to calculate these values and to understand how the memory is working. And I am sarcastic now!
@Dimitar: My guess is that the 3gb internal storage is used by the OS itself - for a smoother performance. It maybe has a boost in RAM from the internal memory - something we call cache. Cache can be used for scrolling (scrollingcache), cache applications and so on. So maybe Htc decided to lock the 3gb for the user and to be available only for rom install.
But if we change the rom with a custom one, I guess that we can unlock that free memory...
Calm down. I don't think that I have a broken HTC One V or something like that. I just want to understand. And in the taskmanager it does not show 512 MB. This is confusing. So no reason to become angry ...
1. The One V does have 512mb RAM. Its allocated to running/cached services.
2. It also does have 4GB Internal Memory. But 3GB of it are partitioned to reserve for the ROM. So it only come out as 0.94GB for Apps and 95.23MB for Phone storage.

Yes, and if you have a custom rom, you can change the internal memory to be more for the user. Scripts are everywhere in this forum.
Remaining are cached memory. In my hox it shows only 976mb. but remaining were used by cache. so no need to worry.

I hope someone can help me

Thanks for the answer. Do you have 16 GB internal storage? and 10.68 GB free before you install a custom rom?
Because i have 16 GB phone and after wipe/format it is only 10806 MB free before installing rom, i don't unstand why it is not 16 GB...
What do you not understand ...
I repeat my previous answer:
10.68 GB - for Internal storage
2.58 GB - for system storage where you have all your apps, frameworks, libs & etc
2.74 GB - for bootloader, kernel, recovery, radio, sensor & etc
Total : 16 GB (10.68 + 2.58 + 2.74)
I have device with 16 GB internal storage and 10.68 GB free before install a ROM
Thanks again!
Now i know that it is normal to have 10.68 GB Before installing a ROM.
I thought when i wipe/format my internal storage the 16 GB should be free....
