I just got this phone and love it. I'm running Caulkins rom but I like Cyanogenmod so much more. I can't seem to find a post that says what exact bugs are in CM9 alpha 6. Any help?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I've been running CM9 for awhile and there aren't any major bugs. Just try it out and see if you like it. Im sure there are still small quirks here and there but nothing keeping it from being a daily driver.
Battery drain is the only issue I have had with CM9 alpha 6.
Thanks for the help guys. Gonna flash it and see how it goes.
Yeah CM9 is great. I don't really have any issues and with a source built kernel in the works we are about to get official cm support and nightlies.

There are several great ROMs. Some have customized themes and others are just basic. Read the OP, not all ROMs are flashed the same.

For me either AOKP M6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753351 or CM9 RC2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621678
Along with the corresponding Venom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775075
Installed with TWRP 2.2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768742
has been super rock solid.
thanks all

Another vote for AOKP and the Venom kernel. Smooth, fast, and crazy battery life.

By far the best rom out there for you is the one you flash on your phone and makes you feel like never flashing another rom. Until you get to that rom I suggest you flash them all. Not that many of them so it should take you about a week to figure out what you like.... Happy Flashing
which is the correct way to install without problems CM9 if I want to put the ICS Stock??
Thanks playya

Depends, if you NEED wifi calling like some of us, you have limited choices.
Maybe a sticky that states the advantages and disadvantages of the popular roms would be helpful.
Just wondering if there is a stable Jellybean ROM for Epic 4G? I would like to use one as a daily driver.
also I'm looking for a good kernel for CM9.1 Stable ROM. Forgot to post that too...

Look in development. Paranoid android has lots of good reviews, and there is a cm10 build out but not sure how stable. As for kernels look for nyan colonel or shadow kernel. Have used both, but prefer nyan.

As of when I used it, it wasn't 100% stable. I think for now, you need to stick with CM9/7 or whatever you like. CM10 still has a bit to go to be a daily driver for everybody (some people are happy with it now, but many are waiting).

Probably so, I'm running the Cm10 preview build now and it's pretty stable I'm running it with the nexus modem. The only thing I am having a problem with is being unable to get voodoo sound to work.

What I did to get rid of the voodoo color is flash a stock ICS kernel. And right now I installed the ParanoidAndroid ROM. And do you just flash the nexus modem?

I wasn't referring to voodoo color I meant voodoo sound, I paid for the voodoo sound plus app and it's suppose to inject the code which make voodoo sound work for whatever Rom without the need of a required kernel.
And to answer your question about flashing the nexus modem, you don't just flash it it require a patch for the modem to be flashed.
There are two threads in the Development section that will guide to flashing not only the nexus modem, but any modem you want.

it's okay
as long as you're willing to learn about modems and such you're good I'm pretty cautious about flashing anything on my phone, so trust me flashing modems is a piece of cake. You should really try CM10 the only problem I see with CM10 is not being able to switch roms until odining back stock.
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to switch Roms after running CM10 with that extra artery clogging butter. Lol

I advise you to make a backup, wipe the usual data and such. CM10 does something with MTD I can't recall, so wiping data would be in your best interest. And don't be alarmed while flashing CM10 your phone reboots and you get stuck on the Cyanogen screen. Wait a minute or so, remove battery put it back in and go back to recovery wipe data again and reflash CM10. Make sure you have JB GAPPS too flash right after you flash CM10.

CM10 official preview is excellent thus far. They are still finding out what doesnt work, but it runs solid and fast!
I'm curious if someone out there in dev land can explain why custom ROM (ics/jb) 4g is so poor compared to stock ROM 4g.
For example, the FI03 stock ROM or any GB ROM will consistently get 8-15mb/s...whereas custom ROMs like CM9/10 have speeds of 600kb/s max. (Some claim the FI03 modem fixes this issue but this has proven to be untrue by many users)
I know I'm not alone in this category as many other users are report the same speeds as well. Is it kernel related?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I believe something in the kernel is throttling 4G. I know chris41g is working on it with his kernel, which is why 4G has been borked in his latest experimental CM9 builds.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Dchibro is correct - it is the the kernel - not the rom - not the modem.
Both above correct, but it is more than just the Kernel .. I asked in a FI03 thread about the removal of the cap and was told the changes are in kernel and in several places in the ROM itself too.
Just happened to me after flashing a new kernel in.
Went from getting 8mbps down in the office to 1.1mbps lol. I think I'll be going back to stock.
Does anyone know when it started getting throttled though. I was sure 4g was fine on cm9 up until a couple months ago....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I just flashed back to stock FI25 kernel from depository and my 4G speeds are back to normal. Was previously on AGAT's.
Theres a vid on youtube that the CM team did and I believe Cyanogen talked about Sprint phones in general saying they was harder to maintain due to there set up with 4g radios.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
yeah I was getting low 3gish speeds on 4g with agat 5.4 kernel with FI03 stock rooted rom. Switched to his FI03 kernel repack and 4g speeds went back up.
I think it's only really been fixed since FI03 came out and 5.4 isn't based on FI03 source?
I get 8.8 MB/s with BluKuban
Anyone know which kernal to use for CM10 or any JB Roms that wouldn't screw up 4g speeds?

But on stock rom you get 16 mbs
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch w/ Stock 4.0.4
Xperia Play R800X w/ supercharged stock 2.3.3 and doomkernel
I've seen in the Epic4g forums that they've gotten the Nexus S modem and RIL to work with their device. From what I understand, the AOSP Nexus modem works better on custom AOSP roms for the Epic4g than the stock ones. Any idea if this would be feasible on our device, maybe from the GNex?
I don't know, just a blind shot in the dark. Below is a link to a thread discussing patches to make this work, if anybody wants to look a little further into it.

I actually just flashed Blukuban to see what kind of speeds I would get and I am still get 300 to 400 kbps.
The only roms I get good 4g are GB roms. All JB and ICS I get no more than 700kbps.

If everything else seems to be working fine, and this is happening on all ROMs, then it is probably either your phone or the battery.
Take the battery out and spin it on the table. If it spins like a top that means it's puffed. A puffed battery is shot get new one. In fact, a puffed battery is potentially dangerous, it means it's internally damaged. It's possible for them to catch fire.
If it's not the battery, it's the phone, get a warranty replacement.
My wife's phone was doing this on multiple ROMs (including stock), and the battery is fine. We have a new phone on the way right now in fact.

Any kernel for aosp ROM. Unless your ROM is based off the leak job. But if I checked correctly baked is aosp. So you can flash kt747, faux123 kernel, cm10 kernel and the other one I don't remember.
You will have to try them to see which works better on your phone. Not all phones are the same.

Thank you for posting a reply so fast. I'm really digging this site. I was on an iphone 4 jailbroken before I bought my gf a gs3. once I saw what it could do I got one right away. Now that I'm getting into this rooting thing it's starting to make a whole lot of sense, how it all comes together, everyone working together to figure things out.
Thanks again
Also, if I'm running ktoonsez's d2att jb 10.3.2012c am I already using kt747? Seems like I would be. I only asked about "sammy" kernel because ktoonsez posted about it working better.
