When I'm using google Maps when attached only to my WiFi it gives me the wrong location, it puts me in CT not in NY where I am (I'm on long island)... All other apps however seem to get the right area... Any Help?
I've tried updating my address with skyhookwireless.com and I know other apps are getting the right address...
Can you help?
Thanks
I used to have that problem with my T-mobile Mytouch 4g.
After google it, I found out that you can fix it by download "GPS Status" https://play.google.com/store/apps/...tatus2&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd .
Run it, turn on your gps and it will download some data.
Wait for it to do some error fix then try again using your Google Maps.

GPS light went off my Airvana the other day for awhile, perhaps Sprint is modifying the Airvana end of their network also. Have you tried connecting the included GPS antenna to an outside location? GPS on Airvana is super sensitive. If you try the outdoor antenna with no luck, call Sprint Airave support.
I bet it is actually probably your router. There should be a timezone setting in there or location setting (in your router's config menu). If it isn't that, then it is likely your ISP doesn't have its nodes configured correctly.

i have a similar problem with a galaxy note. I live in Holland and Google maps shows Cisco university on the map but actually the GPS street view shows my street
And you know...It is a Cisco router
So the GPS is right, street view is right but the map is of. But when tethered on my sgs3 there is no problem with location what do ever. My sgs3 has no problem by the way when connected to the same router.
But I can't find any location setup in the router.

I also cleared maps cache but nothing happened. Still locating me in America instead of Holland. But what I know it's a Wi-Fi/modem problem. It only accurs on my modem at home when on Wi-Fi.
Still hope to fix it.

The airave is running off your internet there is no fix the location it is showing you is the isp location. That's just how the airave is. You might try using only GPS and see if you can obtain a lock but while using wireless network it will show the wrong location.

That's technically wrong. My ip had the right geolocation. The airave works like a cell tower and it turns out (shocking) it's Sprint fault for providing the wrong addresses for the "towers"

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit frustrated by a Google Maps issue that's plaguing me. When I'm on mobile data (3G/2G), the current location function of Google Maps works quite accurately. But when I'm on the WiFi network of my home, it goes haywire and says that I'm a few kilometers away from my home Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a way to solve this? Thanks.
Regards,
Tin
Is this constant or a one off problem? Ive had similar situation happen once in a blue moon ever since ive had phones with gps. If its just a freak occurrence i wouldnt sweat it.
My grandma beat me down and took my nexus. Sent from a jitterbug with beats audio by dre.
It happens whenever I'm on my home WiFi network. I haven't tried it out on other WiFi networks though. But then, since Google Maps can quite accurately determine my location when on mobile data, I'm thinking it's something to do with my WiFi network.
Did you recently move? Perhaps they mapped your wifi at one location and then you physically moved the router several kilometers away.
Umm, no, I haven't moved.
from reading this:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2122170
it looks like google and various other companies have driven round and mapped wifi networks in to their database. If you haven't moved it maybe they are just using your IP address and your exchange is that distance from you.
Maybe?

Then perhaps one of your neighbours moved. If your ssid was hidden when google did their mapping then google may be relying on another ssid to locate you. So someone who lived a few km away moves next door to you, they turn on their router, you pick the signal, and now google thinks you are at their old address.
This happens to me when I visit my parents. I set them up with my old router. Now when I visit them Google tells me I'm in my apartment rather than in my parents house.
Maybe.
As for a resolution, you could try turning off 'Googles location service' under location services in settings.

this didn't work for me and I'm also experiencing this problem on wifi.
All this did is turn off the ability of location to use wifi to determine location, which means unless you have satellite reception, your not going to get location reporting at all
I think it is possible to report this to google so they remove the wrong ssid location from their location service.

Hi I have a data plan with Rogers so the a-gps should be picking location with maps or waze. I was driving this morning but the gps was searching the whole time. I was on 4g during this time. All 3 of the boxes under location services are checked.
Thanks for any ideas
Depends heavily on the position inside your car.
The closer to a window or the windscreen the better. Try holding it up to the drivers window for a few seconds and see if it locks on.
Even the best GPS isn't going to work if it's completely shielded from the satellites by the metal roof.

Should not have to restart your phone every time you want to use navigation.
I am having the same issue.
The GPS icon won't even display in the info bar without a restart.
Do you think this is a hardware or software issue ??
I notice about once a day on average that the gps icon will show up in the status bar. Sometimes it's only for a second or two and sometimes it's there for a couple of minutes. One time I saw it and it just seemed to last forever (I didn't time it but I'd guess 15-30 minutes).
I've gotten messages a few times about apps not being able to access location services. I don't use maps very much but I had it open the other day and it just froze up on me. No message about gps but I didn't keep the app open very long after it was obvious it wasn't going to work.
I'm on rogers in Ottawa.
Edit: Just played around in maps/navigation and gps flat out doesn't work. It was using cell tower triangulation and searching for gps the whole time. I had to turn on wifi to get an accurate location.

So, after I posted last night I went out side and checked my GPS. Sitting on the steps infront of my building I conected to GPS in google maps and navigation right away - it worked like a charm.
Then I noticed it said "4G" instead of LTE in the status bar. I live downtown surrounded by buildings and I drop to "4G' on my front steps like 90% of the time. So, I get up and walk down the block and my LTE kicks in. Low and behold, I lost GPS. It only happened briefly but I lost the signal during the switch. Then I read that the note 2 only has a-GPS and lacks regular GPS. I don't know a ton about this stuff but I did read that connecting to GPS can sometimes be an issue if you only have a-GPS and your connection sucks.
Hopefully this is something that can be fixed with a software update. Who knows, maybe this is why those of us with the I317/I317M are the last ones to get the OTA update. I'm gonna call rogers today and let them know about the issue and see what they say. I don't wanna go through the hassle of exchanging my phone if every handset has this issue right now.
Are you using the Perseus kernel? If so GPS does not seem to work correctly regardless of which location provider is used. I reverted to stock and my GPS works.

My Rogers Note 2 has no problems with GPS at all. If you're all stock and have spotty connections, than it's your area. Tall buildings would probably hinder GPS fixes initially.

Right now I'm stock/unrooted and I intend to stay that way for the time being. I'll be heading to the mall later so I'll pay a visit to the Rogers store and Wireless Wave (awesome third party wireless store in Canada - they really know their ****) and see what they say.

Sorry I took so long to respond but I got sucked in to the mall lol.
So, long story short. Nobody has any clue and the unusually clueless staff at the rogers store (casual Christmas employees) basically said I need to talk to Samsung cuz my 15 days are up. The guys at wireless wave hadn't heard anything about anybody having any issues with gps. Finally, I went to Telus and found someone who actually had a clue and she said it was the first she'd heard of it and actually recommended I check xda.
On my way home now and then I'll call rogers. I'm not hopeful about the outcome lol.
Stay tuned...

Hello folks,
Just an update .. I have been playing around with waze (free at the appstore) for the last day and a half and my gps has been flawless.
Our GPS issues could more then likely be with the actual Navigation app that comes pre installed.
By the way Waze seems to be very impressive I must admit :good:
I used something similar to that app posted.the ones I have is called gpstest.showing 0 satellites for me.like another poster said, should not have to restart the phone or flash firmware on it for GPS to work.it should work otb
Thanks for the feedback

Interesting... I've had this issue happen only once. Nothing I did would start a GPS search. I waited about 2 hours outdoors in a car. Once I restarted the phone, it had a lock on lots of sattelites within 10 sec.
It hasn't happened since.
I have a weird situation that I've had since I got my GS3. I go to school in Milwaukee, WI. Well, I found that I cannot update my PRL and profile the traditional way while on cm10 because it's not touchwiz based. (Maybe I can fix it when I find a good jelly-bean touchwiz ROM.) How else can I update it? The GPS toolbox didn't help to fix anything.
I want to point out that my GPS works fine and Google maps works great.
A hypothesis I have is that someone with a router a floor above me is from Texas and one of those companies that sends trucks out and associates routers with a location to make it able to find your position without connecting to he internet while still having WiFi on associated that router with Cisco, TX. I dismiss this, tho, because there a lot of other routers here, including my own that would only be registered with this location. Plus my GPS SHOULD override that, right?

Both the bone built into the cm10 lock screen (I believe they get it via yahoo weather) and the one from my "fancy clock" widget that uses AccuWeather. If they update outside my dorm room, they're correct, but if its when I'm in the small room (with good GPS signal, 3G, and WiFi), it says I'm in Texas.
Google maps does, and I think GPS toolbox does but I don't know my longitude and latitude.

try going to http://www.geoiptool.com/
and checking what it says when your in your dorm.
Try on 3g, on wifi, and in airplane mode with wifi on please [with GPS off]
Go to settings-developer options-and check if 'Allow Mock Locations' is checked, not 100% sure if that would help, but I know it usually shows you like 2 or 3 blocks away from your accurate location, just incase a site, or someone is looking for your location, like I said, not sire 100% if that would help, but worth the try, good luck

I'm not sure, but there is also a place to set your home and work addresses from within Google Now under the Traffic card settings. I think that's the same as the Maps location, but either one is worth a try.
