Why Do I Get Absolutely No Data When I Switch To LTE? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm in KC and get no data at all when I enable LTE. I'm on freiza's stock rooted LG8 rom. What's the deal?

Lol hova pic.

are you sure that you have 4g coverage in your area? if you can make absolutely sure that you do, then try downloading the app Phone Info from the play store and mess with the settings for network type.

Kansas City has LTE. I've been all over the city today and nothing changes. Even if there is no LTE, shouldn't 3G still work?

I've had that happen to me too around KU MED. I think the lte tower might be having issues. However i was out in olathe today and had great lte coverage. Im on stock lg8 rooted. I was worried up until today. I think we'll just have to wait till all the towers are up. I believe they only have about 20% completed here in KC so far.

I have the same issue. I get the 4g in the notification bar. Seconds later when trying to use it it goes back to 3g. I can't even run a full speed test with out it switching. I am in KC also and have try a numerous location. I am wondering if I have a defective phone I signal bars also change often when on 4g. One second full to one bar. I am on root stock lg8

Sprint's coverage map says we're blanketed in LTE coverage. I wonder what's going on. And shouldn't 3G work if it can't find an LTE connection?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium

3g does work but it is a little annoying because it seems to take up to 15 secs to reconnect to 3g after disconnecting from 4g.
On a sidenote I was in a sprint store today. The Htc evo lte had 4g with 4 bars. I put my s3 in airport mode and back to see if it would connect to 4g but it still went to 3g. I did not have time to test the data connection on the evo.

WiMax is dead. One of the slides says they will use WiMax through 2012. From what I can tell our phones are useless /w LTE. The upside is LTE won't even begin deployment until mid 2012. I am guessing 2013 before we see major LTE rollout AKA we will be near new phones by then.

WiMAX devices will be sold through 2012; LTE rollout will begin in major markets in 2012, with devices coming at the same time. WiMAX isn't going anywhere for a while.
Multi-tech chipsets are going to be a priority.
i still like wimax better
I would be worried about the wimax lte issue but i rarely use sprint network for data unless i absolutely have to. Im consistently on wifi. It would be nice to have lte but it really isn't a necessity.

This is going to be ugly! I can see now our speeds are really about to head back down hill... they are not saying anything about how they will handle all the new iphone customers. Seems they are betting all this on the FCC approving their 800 spectrum with lightsquared, and from my understanding the government is still not sure it would not cause problems with gps so that's not any time soon!

Obviously it's disappointing for all of us who just signed a two year contract on a phone that will be basically obsolete in 6 months when LTE rolls out.
However you can't live your life always holding out for the next big thing.
Wimax 4g works well for me in most of the areas I frequent and will continue to work in those places for the duration of my contract.
Even 3g speeds aren't that bad. And I have true unlimited, I'm wifi tethering, etc. etc. so, look at the bright side. I figure when I become eligible for a new phone the new LTE network will be ready for prime time.

It's the Now or Later Network. If you actually have 10Mbps down WiMAX (which is about 5% of active WiMAX networks) you get things pretty fast. You still buffer YouTube for 10 seconds before it starts. Although on the highway about every OTHER tower in a WiMAX area you do a WiMAX-3G switch every 10 seconds.

The results you posted are consistent with my experience on Sprint in SE Michigan. I'm speaking past my knowledge here, but I believe the network hasn't been upgraded since the EVDO rollout some 5 or more years ago (aside from wimax of course (which is nearly non-existent in MI)). Now think of all the new smartphones and the demand on that old network.
I don't know that it has so much to do with wireless reception as it does the towers connection to the backbone and the demand on that connection. I get into some congested areas and have full signal but crawling data speed.
There's some speculation to ponder.

When I have hellish speeds I force roaming on the 11115 PRL. Whether or not it's immoral or that its a breach of contract, I think its justified given the fact that I was in Ashburn Virginia a few weeks ago and had a ping to Ashburn of something like 783. The speeds were pathetic as well, but forcing roaming brought both speeds and pings up to expected values. Good thing we know that Verizon can keep good connections.
That's some advice. There are some threads about loading the 11115 PRL which allows one to roam on Verizon's faster EVDO network. It's one of the more difficult mods I've done but the process is well documented.
Here I go talking outside my knowledge again. I believe that Sprint has to pay Verizon for the use of that roaming arrangement and they don't appreciate abusers. There have been posts about nasty grams and contract termination.

Doesn't this phone not have EVDO but SVDO or something of nature? When it comes to 3G it all depends on your location to pick up SVDO speeds. During speedtests in my area, with full bars, I'll get 1.2mbps down but most of the time I struggle to hit 1. In my girlfriends neighborhood...it is constantly 2-3mbps down. I would imagine because her 3G towers are upgraded already? The only reason it doesn't bother me is because I actually have 4G LTE most of the time in my house and whenever I go outside or down the street etc.
Data speed is awful here....even close to the tower.
When I upgraded to the Note 2 they took away my discount. Now I have crappy data AND a higher bill. We aren't supposed to get LTE until end of 2013 in St. Louis. I really don't think we will get in the small town I live in at all. So, I think I am taking this back and switch to AT&T. What good is unlimited data if its so slow that I cant use it. At&t us the only option. T mobile and vzw have no coverage here. Sprint was of no help including the retentions department. BYE SPRINT

There are two Sprint 4g w/LTE towers in the process of going live in my area (Lincoln Park, MI). Till Sprint gets on the ball with better service around here, will just have to put up with things. My phone was doing going whacko w/roaming m and "preparing network" mesgs. As I typed this, got a preparing network mesg. Again, people with patience are needed while on Sprint's service..lool.

I was in Queen Creek earlier and didn't see anything out there, currently in Gilbert and don't see anything but 4G on here either.
Running deodexed stock and I flashed the kernel + modem as well. My dad has a stock (completely stock) Note 2 and I'll see whether it's an isolated issue with me or if we just don't get the signal for LTE out this far yet.
I'm in Chandler and my speed got bumped to 16Mb up and 5Mb down even though Soeedtest says I'm only connected ad Umts. Using MyRom TMobile with the LTE modem. To top it off, got switched to Truly Nationwide Unlimited 4G for free.

Ugh this is torture. No LTE yet, union hills / 51
I live in Vacaville CA and have been getting 20+mbps for a while now on hspa+ I hope the LTE is better than what I get now. Otherwise I'll just leave it off.

Today is the first day I've had LTE all day. If u can get on I don't see why they would boot u off since it's official now

Flashed the BMB4 modem, *#2263#, then
Switched on LTE/GSM only and only getting edge now. I live in the west Valley off of 101 and Camelback, is there LTE out here, or did I not select something correctly?

I chose option 6 but after reading your post I went ahead and chose the option LTE only (all bands) and I finally got a 4G LTE signal but 0 bars.
Funny thing is I still get internet connection but my speeds were 9637/627.

I'm in Gilbert currently. The icon said 4g lte (attached image).
